Oedipus The Good Life
Since ancient times, many have sought to the answer the philosophical question, What is the good life
? This is a question with no simple answer! For some individuals, the good life could mean living a
life based on justice and rationality, or on faith and trust in the divine, or on the attainment of power,
military, glory, and reputation. Their perspectives varied greatly depending upon their cultural values
and contexts.
Group I: Oedipus Oedipus Rex, written by Sophocles
Group II: Socrates in the Apology (written by Plato)
Parallels:
i. Oedipus and Socrates both yearn/search to seek the truth (mission; desire to do what they believe is
right; reputation (Oedipus/honor, honesty Socrates/just); search for meaning)

Uncover the murderers of Laius, put them to death or drive them to exile (Sophocles, 349 351).
Oedipus stops at nothing, as he is too proud to fail. Yet his deep focus and determination prevent him
from listening to others. His arrogant nature inhibits him from learning and fully understanding
situations.
Angered by Oedipus dismissiveness, Tiresias shouts,
Listen to me closely: the man you ve sought so long, proclaiming, cursing up and down, the murderer
of Laius he is here. A stranger, you may think, who lives among you, he soon will be revealed a native
Theban but he will take no joy in revelation. Blind who now has eyes, beggar who now is rich, he will
grope his way toward a foreign soil, a stick tapping before him step by step. Revealed at last, brother
and father to the children he embraces, to his mother son and husband both he sowed the loins his
father sowed, he spilled his father s blood!
(Sophocles, 510 523)
Integrity/Reputation Oedipus a man of his word; exemplary in his actions
Please, in god s name... you wipe my fears away, coming so generously to me, the worst of men. Do
one thing more, for your sake, not mine... Drive me out of the land at once, far from sight, where I can
never hear a human voice... The god? His command was clear, every word: death for the

Summary Of Elizabeth Barrett-Browning And Oscar Wilde s...
Welcome back to another episode of Poetry Aloud , today we ll be exploring the tumultuous period
known as the Victorian Era. A time of societal upheaval, poets who were motivated by their negative
experiences of humanity used poetry as a vehicle to change the nature of attitudes in Victorian
England. Within the pantheon of Victorian poets, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Oscar Wilde
illustrated this changeable nature of Victorian England through attempting to transform the values
contemporary to their time by challenging injustices within their society. As an era of emerging
industrialisation and suppressive puritanical values, Browning and Wilde called for societal and
legislative change through accentuating the suffering experienced by ... Show more content on

Considering that Browning heard the actual cries of the children whom she so poignantly bemoans in
her poem, it is evident that her ballad is rather a cry for the children. Her didactic poem is an articulate
attempt to motivate legislative change for exploited children through challenging the injustices they
experienced from their suppressors, in which she questions if they ask [children] why they stand
weeping sore... in our happy Fatherland? This rhetorical question challenges those that exploit the
young for the sake of their own selfish prosperity through contrasting the misery of exploited children
against the shallow exuberance of industrialised England. Browning further elucidates the abhorrence
of child labour by offering exploited children a voice to reveal their experiences of suppression, in
which she uses direct speech to portray them as commenting that It is good when it happens, say the
children, That we die before our time! Browning protests for change through challenging the
obscenity of child labour, highlighting that death seems to be an alluring alternative to the misery
exploited children experienced as they are crippled by the suppressive machine of industry. Browning
uses poetry as a vehicle to protest for legislative change through challenging the

A Monopoly is One Supplier and Numerous Buyers
Monopoly is where there is only one supplier and there are numerous buyers, where it means that
monopoly firms are the only firm in the market, which it means that they control the whole market. In
monopoly, as there are no other firms or competitors it means that there are no competition. An
example of monopoly is PLN, where it is the only electricity business in Indonesia, where there are no
other competitors with PLN. While perfect market is where there are both numerous of suppliers and
buyers. Perfect competition is where there are a huge amount of competitors or there is a big
competition in the market. There is no exactly a perfect competition yet, but an example of a business
where almost reaches perfect competition is stock exchange. In perfect competition, all firms produce
an identical or homogenous product where all of the firms are price takers. In a perfect competition,
the firms have a perfectly elastic demand curve.
Monopoly isn t always bad for consumers as monopolies make a lot of profit, it could be used for
research and development and for innovations. This monopoly firms may use price discrimination
which benefits the economically weaker sections of the society. For example, Trans Jakarta provide
cheaper cost where it would be beneficial for the consumer, the environment, as there are less private
cars, and for the firm, as more affordable price would attract consumers which there would an increase
of sales, to increase the market share. This monopoly

Karl Marx And The Great Philosopher Essay
Karl Marx was born in Trier, Prussia in 1818 to a Jewish family, but despite his baptism at age 6, he
later became an atheist. Marx attended University of Bonn, but due to his imprisonment for
drunkenness and variances with another student, he was enrolled in the University of Berlin by his
parents. Marx earned his degree in philosophy and began writing for Rheinische Zeitung, a liberal
democratic newspaper. He later became their editor. Marx was a member of Young Hegelian
movement which was group that criticized Christianity and the liberal resistance of the Prussian
autocracy. Marx engaged in numerous revolutionary movements; However, after the failures he was
driven to London in 1849. For most of his life, Marx was not working alone. Marx worked with
Friedrich Engels, who had created a similar theory to that of Marx. Engel was a great communicator
while Marx was the great philosopher. The two worked well together to formulate the term, Marxism .
Engel contributed much to Marxism and Karl Marx s other successes. Marx continuously studied and
wrote, but he was unable to finish the last two volumes of his work. Therefore, Engel put together
Marx s notes to finish the volumes after Marx passed on March 14, 1883.
A group of people who share similar opinions and views on characteristics of cultural movements,
philosophy, belief, and other concepts form into a school of thought. Karl Marx not only belonged to
the Marxian school of thought, but as seen by the name, also

How Fashion Photography Has Changed Throughout The Years
In this essay I am going to discuss how fashion photography has evolved throughout the decades.
Some of the subjects I am going to discuss are; the beginnings of fashion photography, the different
styles of fashion photography, and fashion magazines.
Fashion photography is a genre of photography in which clothing and other material garments are
photographed for the purpose of displaying in a fashion magazine or for the use in an advertisement.
This style of photography has been around since the early days of photography itself, however the first
fashion photographs didn t surface until 1856. Photographer Adolphe Braun took the first fashion
photographs of Virginia Oldoini, Countess of Castiglione. These photographs were published into a
book which contained over 200 other photographs of the Countess. Due to these photographs the
Countess became the first ever fashion model. In the 1990 s printing advancements meant that
photographers could include their work in magazine spreads. This allowed fashion magazines like
Vogue and Harper s Bazaar (which were both founded in the 1800 s) to include photographs. These
magazines were initially hand illustrated but the new developments in printing meant that fashion
magazines were able to show photographs of what the clothing actually looked like ... Show more

Some of these can include catalogue/look book images, editorial images, and high fashion images.
Each genre requires a different approach because they each have a specific style requirement to fulfil.
For example, catalogue images need to show a set wardrobe of clothing so that the brand/company can
sell more of the items, the poses that the models are in are very simple and the images are very clean
cut. On the other hand, high fashion images are styled completely different. High fashion images are
made to look out of the ordinary with dramatic clothing and exaggerated

The Critical And Conceptual Inquiry
In the early 1950 s, Ludwig Wittgenstein (1953) openly condemned psychology as a discipline
plagued with conceptual confusion, and rife with experimental methods that are often completely
irrelevant to the problems they set out to solve. Although written over half a century ago, Wittgenstein
s criticism actively reflects the distinct conundrum of modern day psychology, in which expeditious
empirical expansion is coupled with conceptual and theoretical turmoil (Hacker, 2007). Despite this
ambiguity, the advancement of contemporary experimental techniques continues to cultivate a naïve,
unjustified assurance in the status of psychology as a physical science. Openly condemning
metatheoretical psychologists , the proposition under scrutiny is directly representative of the common
neglect of philosophical investigation within the scope of contemporary psychological research. Irony
lies in the fact the critical and conceptual inquiry undertaken by such philosophical types is imperative
in the formation of factual, scientific theories (Boag, 2011). In this sense, I will argue that to label
metatheoretical psychologists as cowboy builders is absurd. They do not tear down edifices in the lust
for destruction as suggested by the premise at hand, instead, they play a much more important role by
providing conceptual critique in the hope of theoretical improvement and stability (Noaparast, 1995).
Abstract analysis such as this can prove helpful in exposing conceptual

American Revolution Dbq Essay
The demand for no taxation without representation was the primary force causing the American
revolutionary movement, and for some it was a symbol for democracy. American colonists had
colonized in the new world for trade, religion, and freedom. The British known as the mother country
realized that they could profit and gain advancements from the colonists so they took action. The
mother country imposed unlawful taxes on colonists that represented a form of democracy soon
leading to the great revolution. The Stamp Act Congress applied towards the beginning of the
revolution explained in document two was a major influential subject leading to the revolution.

Essay On Terrorist Violence
Despite the struggle to bring about a resolution to the conflict during the 1970s and 80s, terrorist
violence continued to be a problem into the early 90s, and British troops remained in full force. In
1981, ten IRA prison hunger strikers starved to death after they used hunger strikes to protest against
losing their special category status and against wearing prison uniforms. This democratic success
persuaded Republicans of the benefits of politics instead of violence as a way of getting what they
wanted. In 1985 British and Irish prime ministers Margaret Thatcher and Garrett Fitzgerald signed the
Anglo Irish Agreement. This recognised the Republic of Ireland s right to have an advice giving role
in the affairs of Northern Ireland.

personnel, republican, loyalist paramilitaries, and the remainder categorised as others were killed
directly as a result of the Troubles (Moran, J, 2008).
The government in Northern Ireland is made up of all the main political parties according to their
strength in the elected Assembly. Responsibility for governing the region is shared today by two
political foes: the loyalist Democratic Unionist Party and the republican Sinn Féin Party (Law, RD,
2009).
In April 2002 weapons inspectors were satisfied that a substantial amount of IRA arms was safely
stored and could not be used without detection. By 2005 the IRA had renounced clearly the use of
violence. Ian Paisley, the head of the Democratic Unionist Party, met face to face for the first time and
worked out an agreement for a power sharing government. In 2010, the Saville Inquiry into Bloody
Sunday 1972, found the Parachute Regiment guilty of unjustifiable firing which caused the deaths and
injuries on that day. British Prime Minister David Cameron said the killings were unjustified and
unjustifiable and he was deeply sorry (Freedman, L, 2002).

Rights of Juvenile Delinquency Essay
Rights of Juvenile Delinquency couldn t be as fair as it is today without the efforts made by reformers
throughout history. During the late 18th and early century youths committing crimes has little to no
rights given. Children as young as 7 years old can be put and trialed as an adult even have a chance
with the death penalty. These punishments where so outrageous that even if you spoke against your
parents wishes you will be put in jail. Something needed to be done about these cruel treatments for a
child at such a young age who may or may not know right from wrong. The victims had the questions,
the government had both the power and most importantly the resolution. It was not only the right but
also the responsibility for the people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Sniper By Liam O Flaherty Analysis
Liam O Flaherty is an Irish author who focuses his writings during the time of the Irish Civil War.
Along with The Sniper, O Flaherty s novel The Informer is also based in Dublin in the 1920 s during
the Irish Civil War. In this story, the theme is that war dehumanizes individuals that partake in the
action. The style is straightforward and easy to understand and the point of view is third person.
Although there are characters mentioned, none have significant detail other than who or what they are;
today though, society tries to recognize the men and women who served or are serving our country for
who they are, brave.
The overall theme is that war dehumanizes individual who partake in the actions of war, making them
seem as mere objects. O Flaherty does not give his characters any meaning. They have no names, no
faces, and are represented as targets to be shot at. For example, in the paragraphs 8 and 9, the author
says round the corner of a side street came an old woman...she began to talk to the man in the turret of
the car. She was pointing to the roof where the snipe lay. An informer. The turret opened. A man s
head and shoulders appeared, looking toward the sniper. The sniper raised his rifle ... Show more

left to go to war in the first place. In this story, characters are introduced to end up being shot, the

frightened back to his senses by the shock. His nerves steadied. The cloud of fear scattered from his
mind and he laughed. Taking the whiskey flask from his pocket, he emptied it in a drought. He felt
reckless under the influence of the spirit (O Flaherty). As if the sniper was crazy, he went from being
shocked, to laughing, to taking a swig of his whiskey and feeling reckless. Normal individuals would

After watching the video, CBS Morning News Plagiarism story, my reaction to what is considered
plagiarism was not so surprising. I already knew a lot about this from high school. My school was
huge on plagiarism and any papers, or even a 500 word essay, submitted to turnitin.com was checked.
Every teacher there had an account for his or her specific subject. If you plagiarized in school it was
my understanding, that it was cause for suspension, a zero in that class and you would have to retake it

the worst by far is the cell phone. A cell phone is not the worst because it doesn t always work or its

cyber bullying. Though viewed a cellphone is a helpful tool that most people have access to, it has
produced more negative effects on our health and well being rather than improved ourselves, and our

Marketers now can provide customers more convenient way of purchasing products and services by
the improvement of technology.
2.2.1 Advantages of technology
With electronic magazine, marketers can expand their product reach across the country, rather than
just focus in local. In this case, online shopping is one of the examples. Customer can purchase their
needs from online shopping overseas. All they need is to pay for the shipping fees for it to ship across
the country. However some marketers even provide free shipping to their customers in order to attract
them for buying the products. For example, G market provide free shipping if the purchase made is
more than a certain costs.
Improvement of technology enable an organisation to market their product online in order to make
customers life easier. For example, McDonald offered 24 hours delivery through online service, and
payment can be made by credit card or VISA. By doing so, customers that are busy and have no time
to go out to purchase meals are attracted by McDonald 24 hours delivery service.
2.2.2 Disadvantages of technology
Increasing number of online shoppers causes worries to the other competitors that do not provide
online service. Online shopping appears to be more attractive as they provide cheaper goods and
almost the same quality as those who own the shops. Marketers who do not

The American Dream In The Overnighters And The California...
Since the inception of this country, the concept of the American Dream has been driven forward by
men and women who believe that they can be as successful as they desire if they only roll up their
sleeves, take charge of their lives, and work hard to accomplish their goals. Indeed, it was this idea
that brought many foreigners to settle in this country in the first place. These types of men and women
jump at any opportunity to better their lives, such as when hundreds of thousands flocked out to
California in 1849 to become wealthy through the search and acquisition of gold. The underlying
situation at play in The Overnighters is no different from the search for the New World or the
California Gold Rush. The communities that form around such fountains of opportunity often strain
the surrounding areas, however, and the Overnighter community of vagabonds and strangers that
formed in the town of Williston, North Dakota was no different, ultimately becoming a source of
conflict that forced the metaphorical moral hands of nearly everyone they surrounded. In recent years,
the North Dakota oil boom has attracted men and women looking for wealth and success from all over
the United States. In some cases, these people packed up nearly everything they have, left everything
they had ever known, and made the hike to North Dakota to seek a job in the oil industry that they did
not know they would receive once there. These individuals no doubt heard stories of plentiful jobs

Theme Of Master Harold And The Boys
During more than forty years, the Apartheid regime in South Africa has disadvantaged Blacks and
deprived them from their humanity. In this context of discrimination, Athol Fugard wrote a play
entitled Master Harold...and the Boys in 1950.The story occurs in the Saint Georges Park Tea Room in
Port Elizabeth. The play involves Master Harold commonly called Hally in the play, who is seventeen
year old white teenager and two thirty year old black men, Sam and Willie who work for Hally s
mother as waiters. The contrast between the characters is used to reflect the realities during the
Apartheid period. Therefore in the play, Fugard emphasizes a theme of black valorisation through

As an illustration, Hally mentioned when Sam succeeded in making a kite it works. We ve done it

as a skillful person in matter of creativity. Furthermore, Sam told Hally about his home works you
should be grateful. That is why you started passing your exams. You tried to be better than me (Fugard
27). This quote shows that the teenager was conscious that Sam is competent intellectually. Therefore
the author shows that the black knows more than working as a waiter. This is a piece of evidence that
black men are as intelligent as white and thus they should be given the same learning opportunities. To
conclude, Fugard uses the friendship between Sam and Hally to make a comparison and to prove that
Sam is competent and intellectually bright. Fugard moreover deals with black valorization by using
the occasional white supremacy displayed by

Persepolis Diction Analysis
Marjane Satrapi began writing Persepolis at the age of 29 so that she would avoid conflicting
emotions. Satrapi did not want to write until she had completely come to peace with what happened
when she was young. Now, while graphic novels are not uncommon, they are not, typically, used to
exhibit the events of a revolution. The brilliance behind Persepolis rests in the intentional use of
simple diction and graphics as symbols of how the adolescent Marjane Satrapi viewed her world.
Although the writer was sufficiently educated as an adult, her diction throughout Persepolis resembled
that of a child s. More so, the clash between black and white throughout the drawings help to remind
the readers of the (inner) conflict the young Satrapi felt as

The First World War had a serious effect on womens suffrage. Just as Britain was going to war against
Germany in August 1914, the WSPU declared peace with the Liberals. So in theory the war of the
sexes was swamped by the World War. However, it has been argued that the greatest effect of the war
on women s suffrage was that women were given the vote towards the end of it. In the past, historians
have generally agreed that women were awarded the vote as a symbol of thanks for their war work. As
ex prime minister Asquith says here:
The highly skilled and dangerous work done by women during the war in the armament and ... Show

therefore, the WSPU abandoned their violent methods and began demonstrating their loyalty to their
country and their right to the vote. Emelline Pankhurst even threw herself into a vicious campaign in
which the defeat of Germany took priority over women s suffrage. Pankhurst, along with her daughter,
Christabel were great assets in promoting the war effort. At home they called for the men of Britain to
sign up for the army, industrial conscription for women and the abolition of trade unions. juve1211,

divided over the war because whilst some members supported it others did not. However, almost all of
the Suffragists were active in wartime relief work and this overcame some of the divisions within the
NUWSS. In contrast to the WSPU, the NUWSS remained committed to women s suffrage. This meant
it left its organisational structure intact, giving it the chance to restart suffrage activities when the time
was right. This was important, for whenever the franchise question was raised in the House of
Commons, the NUWSS were well written about in the press, and well thought of by the trade union
and the government in support of women s suffrage.

In today s era, cultural safety is the principal subject involved in nursing practice. Culture is defined as
a group of people of different origins, values, languages they speak, spiritual beliefs and many more.
Unsafe cultural practice consists of any action which destroys or deteriorate the overall health and
cultural identity of a person or individual. Many factors which influence cultural safety are cultural,

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population across different parts of Australia have lower life
expectancy than mainstream Australians (approximately 10 years difference in lifespan between
indigenous and non indigenous people). Late diagnosis of disease is the most prominent, with many
indigenous people entering the end or terminal phase of illness before it is diagnosed (Williams,
2016). The colonisation of Australia had a catastrophic effect on Torres islander or Aboriginal people.
Behrendt, L, (2012) states that in 1788, Captain Arthur Phillip and other 1500 civilians, marines and
crew arrived at Sydney. After 10 years of their arrival, Australia s indigenous population reduced by
90 percent. Three main reasons for this drastic decline in number were violent conflicts between
colonisers, the introduction of new diseases and other civilians or non native population acquire the

Argumentative Essay On Creation Vs Evolution
Students and adults often have questions about the way humans and our world came into being. Some
of the questions are, What is the difference between creation and evolution? and Is evolution more
valid than creation? Evolutionists tend to say that the debate between creationism and evolution is
about the Bible versus science. In reality, the debate is about good science versus bad science. Thanks
to the ongoing debate between creationism and evolution, people have continued to explore different
areas of science to develop a greater understanding of how we came to exist. Research has led us to
surmise that creationism is supported by more scientific evidence than various thoughts on evolution.
One of the most well known points of the theory of evolution is that life evolved from a tiny organism
to what it is now. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What if instead of a common ancestor, all species have a common creator? Supporters of evolution
often attempt to use natural selection to prove their point. Natural selection is the process where the
organisms which are better adapted to their environments tend to survive and produce more offspring
than other organisms. For this to be a valid argument, Eskimos would have grown heavy fur to stay
warm, and humans that live in the tropics would have smooth, shiny skin to help them stay cool.
Currently, Eskimos have normal skin and wear coats to keep warm, while people who live in the
tropics have darker skin. Another example that disproves natural selection is seen in different types of
animals. Bears, tigers, lions, and other animals have heavy fur, even though they live in hot climates.
A jungle leopard that lives in hot climates has the same amount of fur as a snow leopard that lives in
freezing cold climates. All of these examples show that natural selection, which is a key point of
evolution, is

Speaking the Truth
Speaking the Truth Before my current boss at the University, my boss was Susie. When I first started
working there, Susie and I did not get along very well. She would do things that I did not think
modeled leadership, such as telling her followers that they could not take off two weeks before start
week then she would take off during that time. As time progressed, she became a better leader and we
began to get along better. However, another team member that originally got along with her began to
miss a lot of work, come in late, leave in the middle of important jobs that had to be finished, etc. As a
result, she began to put a lot of pressure on this employee about this behavior. The more pressure she
put on him the angrier he got and he began to fight back in a very unethical way. We would go into
team meetings and she would tell us things such as I went home for lunch and was so tired I did not
come back for three hours and laugh saying I do think John even noticed. John was her boss and he
was located in another building, therefore he was not aware of her comings and goings unless it was
pointed out to him. While we the team did not think this, was appropriate behavior for a leader as a
team we talked about it being wrong, but did not talk about it outside of our circle. However, the
employee that she was putting pressure on to shape up seen this as the perfect opportunity to retaliate
against her and he went one step above her boss and reported it. As a result,

Andrew Carnegie And The Transformation Of The Steel Industry
American Economic Development
Andrew Carnegie and the Transformation of the Steel Industry
November 2014
Before Andrew Carnegie s influence in the steel industry, steel was as an expensive product. It was
used for tools and weapons, all large scale metal operations were created with cast iron. The Bessemer
process was the cheap way to produce steel. The process enabled the mass production of steel for
industrial types of usage. Essentially the process breaks down impurities in the iron by way of open
furnace extraction. This oxidizes the steel while it is run through molten metal. Steel has been
common in production since the Bessemer process was discovered and perfected in the late 1850s.
Andrew Carnegie made his fortune in the steel industry. He was one of the first to practice the vertical
integration management technique which drastically reduced his costs of production. Along with the
vertical integration his honing of the Bessemer process created somewhat of a monopoly in the area. I
say this because Edgar Thompson Steel Works provided permits for Carnegie to purchase a number of
nearby steel mills. The steel industry in the United States changed drastically from the early 1800s to
1900s; the man responsible for the mass production was Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie is one of the
wealthiest men to live on this earth; much of that wealth came from Carnegie Steel Company, later
U.S. Steel.
Prior to the application of the Bessemer process, Britain had no way of reducing

Origin Of The Word Hoosier Analysis
Hoosier is one of those odd words where everyone seems to know what it refers to, but no one really
knows what it means. Most know that it has been adopted to refer to Indianaians, but its true meaning
and origin are a mystery. This mystery is what intrigued J.P. Dunn and prompted him to write Origin
of the Word Hoosier. In his work, Dunn makes the argument that there is no true known origin of the
word. Dunn believes that the true stories are nothing more than legends warped by time and the facts
that people believe cannot be proved to be anything more than just theory. The first fact, based upon
the legend of the word hoosier, is that the word was originally used as a slang term to describe a
rough, uneducated class of people. This belief has stemmed from the reasoning that a great many of
the legends describe the character of the people labeled hoosier as childish and uncivilized. One such
legend is told by Mrs. C. W. Bean. She recalls, One of my aunts said, What a lot of hoosiers there are
in town. In surprise, I asked, Why, I am a Hoosier. ? A horrified look came over my aunt s face, and
she exclaimed, For the Lord s sake, child, don t let anyone here know that you are a hoosier. I did not
make the claim again, for on closer inspection the visitors proved to be a wild looking lot who might
be suspected of never having seen civilization before. (88) Mrs. Bean s story supports the idea that the
word hoosier originally depicts the uneducated, as her

Why Do Coaches Need Ethical Obligations In Professional...
This portfolio is a compilation of my works while pursuing a Master s degree in Coaching and
Athletic Administration. These selected works illustrate my professional development gained from
this educational experience. Seeking out professional development opportunities is critical for athletic
coaches and administrators because every sports program, regardless of the age or skill level, should
have a qualified coach lead it. In fact, many would argue there are a moral and a legal obligation to
have qualified coaches at all levels. There is a legal obligation because unqualified coaches are more
likely to teach improper skills and techniques, which puts athletes at risk for injuries. Further, there is
a moral obligation, as qualified coaches are more apt to understand and address the psychological and
physiological developmental needs for each athlete. When a coach knows these psychological and ...

how coaches can meet these guideline requirements. More importantly, coaches have an ethical
obligation to take proactive measures so young athletes can enjoy and learn in a safe, protective

Chapter VI describes how I would establish an exceptional youth basketball program. The chapter
reviews important components like coaching strategy, skill development, and relationship building
that a successful program must incorporate. This exceptional program is built on the coaching

The Montessori Method Of Education By Observing Behaviors
Dr. Maria Montessori developed the Montessori Method of education by observing behaviors in
young children which formed the foundation of her educational method. Montessori method is a child
centered educational approach based on scientific clarifications of children from birth to adulthood.
Dr. Montessori s Method has been time tested, with over 100 years of success in diverse cultures
throughout the world. It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable
of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach
that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child physical, social, emotional and

A Survey on Human Mobility Modeling The speaker of this presentation is Hugo Serrano Barbosa
Filho from Florida Tech. The topic of this presentation is the importance of human mobility modeling
and several human mobility modeling methods Human mobility model represents the movement of
human and how they change their positions over time[1]. At the beginning of presentation Mr. Filho
answered two questions. First, human mobility research is about analyze and predict human daily
activities and places they visiting. Second, human mobility modeling is reproduce patterns about
human mobility activities, and the reason why modeling human mobility is it can help to solve a lot of
problems. These problems are very important in nowadays. For example, traffic forecasting can
forecast traffic situation in different streets and give drivers the best path to destination. Urban
planning can help improving the urban areas. Epidemics modeling can predicate how epidemics such
like flu moved and how to control it. Then Mr. Filho introduced the two different levels of human
mobility. The first one we call it individual level, which is a micro level. It is about an individual s
activities, such like what places he/she visits in a week. But in the other hand is the population level,
which is a macro level. This level is about the entire data of a group people s activities, such like how
many cars travel through a particular road each week, or how many people migrate from one area to

Sample Management Plan For Medical Equipment
2.5Maintenance Management Plan
Dyro (2004) indicates that periodic medical device management is a fundamental element of
equipment management. Arno, Dowling and Schuerger (2016) report that high reliability and low
maintenance costs are common targets for all maintenance programs. A carefully designed
preventative maintenance can reduce maintenance costs through the prevention of degradation failure
through preemptive intervention. Corrective maintenance is required when a failure occurs and it is
often more expensive than a preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance is implemented to
decrease the probability of some particular expected failures and therefore decrease the overall
maintenance cost.
2.5.1 Preventive Maintenance
Medical equipment is usually expensive and require high mechanical precision, especially for the
equipment that produce devices that install in patients body. Fennigkoh and Smith (1989) indicate that
medical equipment needs constant maintenance to make sure that it can perform required high
requirements, which makes preventive maintenance very important in medical industry. Another
benefit of implementing preventive maintenance is that it also decreases expensive corrective
maintenance costs.

According to Centers for Medicare medicaid Services (CMS) Preventive Maintenance Regulations

was big reason that this writing made me laugh. For example while Barry is writing to his son he

Chimney Sweeper William Blake
William Blake proved himself as one of the most influential artists to spring from the Romantic Era
without a doubt. What made Blake so popular may have been his ability to portray his time period in
works of art that were beautifully crafted. Blake s poetry was not appreciated during his lifetime
because people were living the lives his works vicariously told, but once his time period ended, a
historical book was left behind. The theme of a struggle is most prominently showcased in Blake s
poetry. Whether it be Blake depicting women and their power struggle throughout the 18th or 19th
century, or depicting the lives of the children put into the labor force at a very early age. These
children were put in a tunnel (almost literally when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By the speakers hair remaining white, the unobstructed purity is showcased. The color white makes a
second appearance in the first The Chimney Sweeper here, Then naked and white, all their bags left
behind . This passage literally shows the childrens innocence because their young bodies were bare.
When a newborn enters the world, this is truly the most innocent time in ones life. Through Blakes
allusion to the naked, pure, and free bodies he is emphasizing their continued innocence. The irony of
the color white in this passage is showcased because more than 65% of the chimney sweeps were
black (Simkin 1), restating that the color white is only inserted in the poem to symbolize innocence
(Smith 1).
The transition from The Chimney Sweeper in Songs of Innocence to the other The Chimney Sweeper
in Songs of Experience is a jurassic change of perspective by the narrator. In the second poem, no
façade is placed on the fact that the children are not innocent. The first line of this poem references the
lack of innocence, A little black thing among the snow, and like previously stated, it is understood that
the color white signifies innocence so on the contrary, the color black represents corruption. Tom
Dacre again states that he knows his life is a tragic one when he says, They clothed me in the clothes
of death. This is directly

  • 2. Oedipus The Good Life Since ancient times, many have sought to the answer the philosophical question, What is the good life ? This is a question with no simple answer! For some individuals, the good life could mean living a life based on justice and rationality, or on faith and trust in the divine, or on the attainment of power, military, glory, and reputation. Their perspectives varied greatly depending upon their cultural values and contexts. Group I: Oedipus Oedipus Rex, written by Sophocles Group II: Socrates in the Apology (written by Plato) Parallels: i. Oedipus and Socrates both yearn/search to seek the truth (mission; desire to do what they believe is right; reputation (Oedipus/honor, honesty Socrates/just); search for meaning) ii. ... Yet his deep focus and determination prevent him from listening to others. His arrogant nature inhibits him from learning and fully understanding situations. Angered by Oedipus dismissiveness, Tiresias shouts, Listen to me closely: the man you ve sought so long, proclaiming, cursing up and down, the murderer of Laius he is here. A stranger, you may think, who lives among you, he soon will be revealed a native Theban but he will take no joy in revelation. Blind who now has eyes, beggar who now is rich, he will grope his way toward a foreign soil, a stick tapping before him step by step. Revealed at last, brother and father to the children he embraces, to his mother son and husband both he sowed the loins his father sowed, he spilled his father s blood! • 3. Summary Of Elizabeth Barrett-Browning And Oscar Wilde s... Welcome back to another episode of Poetry Aloud , today we ll be exploring the tumultuous period known as the Victorian Era. A time of societal upheaval, poets who were motivated by their negative experiences of humanity used poetry as a vehicle to change the nature of attitudes in Victorian England. Within the pantheon of Victorian poets, Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Oscar Wilde illustrated this changeable nature of Victorian England through attempting to transform the values contemporary to their time by challenging injustices within their society. As an era of emerging industrialisation and suppressive puritanical values, Browning and Wilde called for societal and legislative change through accentuating the suffering experienced by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considering that Browning heard the actual cries of the children whom she so poignantly bemoans in her poem, it is evident that her ballad is rather a cry for the children. Her didactic poem is an articulate attempt to motivate legislative change for exploited children through challenging the injustices they experienced from their suppressors, in which she questions if they ask [children] why they stand weeping sore... in our happy Fatherland? This rhetorical question challenges those that exploit the young for the sake of their own selfish prosperity through contrasting the misery of exploited children against the shallow exuberance of industrialised England. Browning further elucidates the abhorrence of child labour by offering exploited children a voice to reveal their experiences of suppression, in which she uses direct speech to portray them as commenting that It is good when it happens, say the children, That we die before our time! Browning protests for change through challenging the obscenity of child labour, highlighting that death seems to be an alluring alternative to the misery exploited children experienced as they are crippled by the suppressive machine of industry. • 4. A Monopoly is One Supplier and Numerous Buyers Monopoly is where there is only one supplier and there are numerous buyers, where it means that monopoly firms are the only firm in the market, which it means that they control the whole market. In monopoly, as there are no other firms or competitors it means that there are no competition. An example of monopoly is PLN, where it is the only electricity business in Indonesia, where there are no other competitors with PLN. While perfect market is where there are both numerous of suppliers and buyers. Perfect competition is where there are a huge amount of competitors or there is a big competition in the market. There is no exactly a perfect competition yet, but an example of a business where almost reaches perfect competition is stock exchange. In perfect competition, all firms produce an identical or homogenous product where all of the firms are price takers. In a perfect competition, the firms have a perfectly elastic demand curve. Monopoly isn t always bad for consumers as monopolies make a lot of profit, it could be used for research and development and for innovations. This monopoly firms may use price discrimination which benefits the economically weaker sections of the society. For example, Trans Jakarta provide cheaper cost where it would be beneficial for the consumer, the environment, as there are less private cars, and for the firm, as more affordable price would attract consumers which there would an increase of sales, to increase the market share. Marx attended University of Bonn, but due to his imprisonment for drunkenness and variances with another student, he was enrolled in the University of Berlin by his parents. Marx earned his degree in philosophy and began writing for Rheinische Zeitung, a liberal democratic newspaper. He later became their editor. Marx was a member of Young Hegelian movement which was group that criticized Christianity and the liberal resistance of the Prussian autocracy. Marx engaged in numerous revolutionary movements; However, after the failures he was driven to London in 1849. For most of his life, Marx was not working alone. Marx worked with Friedrich Engels, who had created a similar theory to that of Marx. Engel was a great communicator while Marx was the great philosopher. The two worked well together to formulate the term, Marxism . Engel contributed much to Marxism and Karl Marx s other successes. Marx continuously studied and wrote, but he was unable to finish the last two volumes of his work. • 6. How Fashion Photography Has Changed Throughout The Years In this essay I am going to discuss how fashion photography has evolved throughout the decades. Some of the subjects I am going to discuss are; the beginnings of fashion photography, the different styles of fashion photography, and fashion magazines. Fashion photography is a genre of photography in which clothing and other material garments are photographed for the purpose of displaying in a fashion magazine or for the use in an advertisement. This style of photography has been around since the early days of photography itself, however the first fashion photographs didn t surface until 1856. Photographer Adolphe Braun took the first fashion photographs of Virginia Oldoini, Countess of Castiglione. These photographs were published into a book which contained over 200 other photographs of the Countess. Due to these photographs the Countess became the first ever fashion model. In the 1990 s printing advancements meant that photographers could include their work in magazine spreads. This allowed fashion magazines like Vogue and Harper s Bazaar (which were both founded in the 1800 s) to include photographs. These magazines were initially hand illustrated but the new developments in printing meant that fashion magazines were able to show photographs of what the clothing actually looked like ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some of these can include catalogue/look book images, editorial images, and high fashion images. Each genre requires a different approach because they each have a specific style requirement to fulfil. For example, catalogue images need to show a set wardrobe of clothing so that the brand/company can sell more of the items, the poses that the models are in are very simple and the images are very clean cut. On the other hand, high fashion images are styled completely different. High fashion images are made to look out of the ordinary with dramatic clothing and exaggerated ... • 7. The Critical And Conceptual Inquiry In the early 1950 s, Ludwig Wittgenstein (1953) openly condemned psychology as a discipline plagued with conceptual confusion, and rife with experimental methods that are often completely irrelevant to the problems they set out to solve. Although written over half a century ago, Wittgenstein s criticism actively reflects the distinct conundrum of modern day psychology, in which expeditious empirical expansion is coupled with conceptual and theoretical turmoil (Hacker, 2007). Despite this ambiguity, the advancement of contemporary experimental techniques continues to cultivate a naïve, unjustified assurance in the status of psychology as a physical science. Openly condemning metatheoretical psychologists , the proposition under scrutiny is directly representative of the common neglect of philosophical investigation within the scope of contemporary psychological research. Irony lies in the fact the critical and conceptual inquiry undertaken by such philosophical types is imperative in the formation of factual, scientific theories (Boag, 2011). In this sense, I will argue that to label metatheoretical psychologists as cowboy builders is absurd. They do not tear down edifices in the lust for destruction as suggested by the premise at hand, instead, they play a much more important role by providing conceptual critique in the hope of theoretical improvement and stability (Noaparast, 1995). Abstract analysis such as this can prove helpful in exposing conceptual ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay On Terrorist Violence Despite the struggle to bring about a resolution to the conflict during the 1970s and 80s, terrorist violence continued to be a problem into the early 90s, and British troops remained in full force. In 1981, ten IRA prison hunger strikers starved to death after they used hunger strikes to protest against losing their special category status and against wearing prison uniforms. This democratic success persuaded Republicans of the benefits of politics instead of violence as a way of getting what they wanted. The government in Northern Ireland is made up of all the main political parties according to their strength in the elected Assembly. Responsibility for governing the region is shared today by two political foes: the loyalist Democratic Unionist Party and the republican Sinn Féin Party (Law, RD, 2009). In April 2002 weapons inspectors were satisfied that a substantial amount of IRA arms was safely stored and could not be used without detection. By 2005 the IRA had renounced clearly the use of violence. Ian Paisley, the head of the Democratic Unionist Party, met face to face for the first time and worked out an agreement for a power sharing government. In 2010, the Saville Inquiry into Bloody Sunday 1972, found the Parachute Regiment guilty of unjustifiable firing which caused the deaths and injuries on that day. British Prime Minister David Cameron said the killings were unjustified and unjustifiable and he was deeply sorry (Freedman, L, 2002). • 11. The Sniper By Liam O Flaherty Analysis Liam O Flaherty is an Irish author who focuses his writings during the time of the Irish Civil War. Along with The Sniper, O Flaherty s novel The Informer is also based in Dublin in the 1920 s during the Irish Civil War. In this story, the theme is that war dehumanizes individuals that partake in the action. The style is straightforward and easy to understand and the point of view is third person. Although there are characters mentioned, none have significant detail other than who or what they are; today though, society tries to recognize the men and women who served or are serving our country for who they are, brave. The overall theme is that war dehumanizes individual who partake in the actions of war, making them seem as mere objects. O Flaherty does not give his characters any meaning. They have no names, no faces, and are represented as targets to be shot at. For example, in the paragraphs 8 and 9, the author says round the corner of a side street came an old woman...she began to talk to the man in the turret of the car. She was pointing to the roof where the snipe lay. An informer. The turret opened. A man s head and shoulders appeared, looking toward the sniper. The sniper raised his rifle ... Taking the whiskey flask from his pocket, he emptied it in a drought. He felt reckless under the influence of the spirit (O Flaherty). As they grew and as each other began to repair themselves and other countries, both countries began to worry about a possible attack from the other. After World War I the Russians feared Germany coming against them and taking them over, so they created a sphere of influence in the countries bordering them and Germany. The Soviets built the Berlin wall to maintain influence and eventually this gave way to the hypothetical iron curtain. • 18. The American Dream In The Overnighters And The California... Since the inception of this country, the concept of the American Dream has been driven forward by men and women who believe that they can be as successful as they desire if they only roll up their sleeves, take charge of their lives, and work hard to accomplish their goals. Indeed, it was this idea that brought many foreigners to settle in this country in the first place. These types of men and women jump at any opportunity to better their lives, such as when hundreds of thousands flocked out to California in 1849 to become wealthy through the search and acquisition of gold. The underlying situation at play in The Overnighters is no different from the search for the New World or the California Gold Rush. The communities that form around such fountains of opportunity often strain the surrounding areas, however, and the Overnighter community of vagabonds and strangers that formed in the town of Williston, North Dakota was no different, ultimately becoming a source of conflict that forced the metaphorical moral hands of nearly everyone they surrounded. In recent years, the North Dakota oil boom has attracted men and women looking for wealth and success from all over the United States. In some cases, these people packed up nearly everything they have, left everything they had ever known, and made the hike to North Dakota to seek a job in the oil industry that they did not know they would receive once there. Some of the questions are, What is the difference between creation and evolution? and Is evolution more valid than creation? Evolutionists tend to say that the debate between creationism and evolution is about the Bible versus science. In reality, the debate is about good science versus bad science. Thanks to the ongoing debate between creationism and evolution, people have continued to explore different areas of science to develop a greater understanding of how we came to exist. Research has led us to surmise that creationism is supported by more scientific evidence than various thoughts on evolution. One of the most well known points of the theory of evolution is that life evolved from a tiny organism to what it is now. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What if instead of a common ancestor, all species have a common creator? Supporters of evolution often attempt to use natural selection to prove their point. Natural selection is the process where the organisms which are better adapted to their environments tend to survive and produce more offspring than other organisms. For this to be a valid argument, Eskimos would have grown heavy fur to stay warm, and humans that live in the tropics would have smooth, shiny skin to help them stay cool. Currently, Eskimos have normal skin and wear coats to keep warm, while people who live in the tropics have darker skin. Another example that disproves natural selection is seen in different types of animals. Bears, tigers, lions, and other animals have heavy fur, even though they live in hot climates. A jungle leopard that lives in hot climates has the same amount of fur as a snow leopard that lives in freezing cold climates. Andrew Carnegie And The Transformation Of The Steel Industry American Economic Development Andrew Carnegie and the Transformation of the Steel Industry November 2014 Before Andrew Carnegie s influence in the steel industry, steel was as an expensive product. It was used for tools and weapons, all large scale metal operations were created with cast iron. The Bessemer process was the cheap way to produce steel. The process enabled the mass production of steel for industrial types of usage. Essentially the process breaks down impurities in the iron by way of open furnace extraction. This oxidizes the steel while it is run through molten metal. Steel has been common in production since the Bessemer process was discovered and perfected in the late 1850s. Andrew Carnegie made his fortune in the steel industry. He was one of the first to practice the vertical integration management technique which drastically reduced his costs of production. Along with the vertical integration his honing of the Bessemer process created somewhat of a monopoly in the area. I say this because Edgar Thompson Steel Works provided permits for Carnegie to purchase a number of nearby steel mills. The steel industry in the United States changed drastically from the early 1800s to 1900s; the man responsible for the mass production was Andrew Carnegie. Most know that it has been adopted to refer to Indianaians, but its true meaning and origin are a mystery. This mystery is what intrigued J.P. Dunn and prompted him to write Origin of the Word Hoosier. In his work, Dunn makes the argument that there is no true known origin of the word. Dunn believes that the true stories are nothing more than legends warped by time and the facts that people believe cannot be proved to be anything more than just theory. The first fact, based upon the legend of the word hoosier, is that the word was originally used as a slang term to describe a rough, uneducated class of people. This belief has stemmed from the reasoning that a great many of the legends describe the character of the people labeled hoosier as childish and uncivilized. One such legend is told by Mrs. C. W. Bean. She recalls, One of my aunts said, What a lot of hoosiers there are in town. In surprise, I asked, Why, I am a Hoosier. ? A horrified look came over my aunt s face, and she exclaimed, For the Lord s sake, child, don t let anyone here know that you are a hoosier. A carefully designed preventative maintenance can reduce maintenance costs through the prevention of degradation failure through preemptive intervention.
