It notes advantages like more interesting experiments and accurate graphs, but also disadvantages like costs and computer literacy needs. The document outlines an experiment using a carbon dioxide sensor and data logger to monitor carbon dioxide levels during yeast fermentation with different glucose concentrations. It presents the results and leads a discussion on respiration rates and the role of paraffin oil and pressure valves. The conclusion states that data logging enhances learning and helps achieve learning outcomes.
The document discusses a study conducted by UPSI students to measure biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) in two rivers near Tg. Malim. They found that one river had higher BOD due to more organic waste, leaving less oxygen for fish and resulting in more fish deaths. The students measured BOD using a data logger by tracking dissolved oxygen levels over 5 days in different water samples, finding the highest BOD in drain water.
Data Acquisition System and Data loggersSwara Dave
Data acquisition systems capture and measure physical phenomena like temperature, pressure, and light and convert them into electrical signals that can be processed by a computer. The key components are transducers that convert physical values into electrical signals, signal conditioning hardware to prepare signals for measurement, and data acquisition hardware and software for measuring and analyzing the data. Data loggers are portable electronic devices that record data over time from internal or external sensors and instruments to internal memory for later retrieval. They are used in various applications like environmental monitoring and machinery performance testing.
Slides giving an overview on pH and its measurement.
Contains information about pH meters, its calibration, maintenance , types of ph electrode and modern definition of pH
pH is a measure of acidity or alkalinity on a scale of 0 to 14. A pH below 7 is acidic, above 7 is basic, and 7 is neutral. pH is determined by the concentration of hydrogen ions [H+], with higher H+ corresponding to lower pH. A pH measurement uses a glass electrode that detects H+ and a reference electrode, with the difference in voltages between the two electrodes determining the pH reading. Calibration buffers are used to calibrate pH meters and account for temperature sensitivity.
A pH meter is an electronic instrument used to measure the pH (acidity or alkalinity) of liquids and semi-solids. It consists of glass and reference electrodes connected to an electronic meter that measures and displays the pH reading. The first commercial pH meter was invented in the 1930s. pH meters work by measuring the hydrogen ion concentration based on reactions in the electrodes. They must be calibrated using standard buffer solutions before use to accurately measure the pH of samples. Common applications include medicine, agriculture, food production, and more.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

20. Weatherization Study
Oak Ridge National Laboratory & Energy Center of Wisconsin
• Challenge
o Funded by a $5 billion federal assistance program, National Weatherization
Assistance Program Evaluation
o Determine if low-income homes in the Midwest, Northeast & South heated with
propane & oil achieve comparable energy savings to those heated by natural gas.
o How to accurately measure the differences between bulk fuel deliveries vs natural
gas’s monthly bill.
o Analyzing fuel deliveries, alone, can create skewed results. For example, one household
may fill its oil tank to the top for the winter; another may fill it only partially and then use
a wood-burning stove to supplement.
• Solution
o HOBO U10-003 Temp/RH loggers used at the main thermostat for space
temperature over the study period which was used to improve the variable-base
degree day analysis.
o U10-003 also placed in spaces that used additional heating sources such as space
heaters or wood stoves
o Additional HOBOs where used to monitor the run-time of the heating systems.

Let me demonstrate how the ZW system works. This is a sample layout of facilityConsider this is your room with the PC running the HOBOnode Manager software and the Receiver is connected to it.Moving away from the receiver, place the battery operated data nodes at the desired measurement point within a 300ft line of sight distance. If there are obstacles between the node and the receiver this range may be less than 300ft; you will be able to see the signal strength in the software. Now if you want to collect data from beyond the communicating distance from the receiver then set one of the data nodes along the path to be an “AC powered dual purpose node” and place a data node at the desired measurement point. As I had explained earlier, in the dual purpose mode, the data nodes not only transmit data from their own sensors but also redirect data from other nodes until it reaches the receiver.Alternately, you can add a router node along the path and then move the data node to the remote measurement point. To collect data from another point that is further away, set another node in a dual purpose mode and place a data node at the desired point. If you wish to collect data from a node across a physical obstruction, place a router (dedicated or a dual purpose) within the communicating range of the node and the data from the node will get redirected to the receiver. This way the network spreads throughout the facility and collects the data from across rooms, partitions and floor levels and makes it available at a centralized location: your PCYou can add more nodes and measurement points over time without disrupting the existing network. A single network can scale up to a maximum of 100 nodes. In real-time situations, the space inside a facility does not remain constant. Things are moved around and this may create obstructions between two communicating nodes. In such a situation, the self-healing feature of the ZW network will make the data node to automatically look for another router node to send its data to, without any manual interventionAs you can see, once you have ensured a strong “communication backbone” of routers connected to the receiver, the network heals itself from broken communication links. Thus the network ensures that despite the obstructions the data nodes are able to send readings from their sensors to the receiver, as long as they find one or more router within the communication range. If the nodes fail to find a router within the communication range it has buffer memory to save the readings for few days. Thus a ZW network made up of routers and data nodes is very reliable and robust in face of communication obstructions and power failures. As mentioned earlier, the data nodes come in variety of configurations, based on the types of sensors internal or external.A single network can have any combination of these different types of data nodes, based on your application needs.
