This document outlines a project to create an interactive visualization about the world's dwindling cocoa supply and increasing demand for chocolate. The visualization will calculate outcomes like price increases and potential shortage dates based on the viewer's personal chocolate consumption entered as input. It will personalize large statistics to help viewers understand the issue and their individual connection to it. The project aims to inform those interested in chocolate through an engaging format unlike static infographics by putting numbers in the context of "what this means for me?".

20. OUR CONCEPT
Statistics and predictions based on user’s individual input.
Puts the numbers into the perspective
“What this means for me?”
What would happen if everyone ate the same amount of
chocolate as you do?
You can change the amount of chocolate consumed per week,
and see how this influences the projections.

production, supply and consumption of cocoa.
Also some predictions what will happen in the future.
If we have the info of how much cocoa is currently being
consumed worldwide, we can combine this with current
production numbers to estimate price increases, or even when
we might run out of cocoa altogether.

30. CHALLENGES
Projections
Estimating what might happen on the market is difficult
• increasing demand in Asia, but difficult to predict exact
numbers
• new solutions to tackle the issue being developed
(genetically modified crops, …)
• big share of cocoa production depended on Ebola or
similar outbreaks
We just have to assume some things.
