Paul Laurence Dunbar And Maya Angelou Comparison
For each of us, freedom plays a very important role in this life. With me, I think there is nothing
which is greater than we are free to do what we want to do, dream what we want to dream or
simply, eat what we want to eat. We all worship freedom. I or Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya
Angelou do too. Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya Angelou expressed their freedom through their
poems which are Sympathy and Caged Bird in a very personal, dramatic and profound way.
Although we were published in two different times, I feel that these two poems also have harmonies
in ideas or the way the authors think about freedom in them. Besides, each of them contains their
own characteristics which make them have their own colors and meaning. During the civil rights
era, the racism, that horrible system that discriminates against people based on... Show more content

Maya Angelou and Paul Larence Dunbar were African American, who grew up in that era so
they experienced and felt the sadness and pain that Africa Americans when they became slaves
for White people received at that time. From the same feeling, the same inspiration, the poems
express their feeling when they used to face with that discrimination in their life every single
day. The poems also assert the importance of freedom and its value in life. Besides the
coincidence of the subject and circumstances of the birth of these two poems, there is another
interesting similiar thing is that the image of a bird which is trapped in a cage is used as a
metaphor to symbolize African Americans who suffered racial discrimination during this period. I
feel this is a very interesting metaphor. That same point also makes the poems special and have
very personal beauty , not to be confused with other poems. Birds are always associated as a
symbol of freedom. Everyone

The Human Need For Realistic Representations
When photographs and film were first invented it was seen as a means for capturing reality.
They would replace paintings in the role of capturing reality, due to the ability to capture
pictures in real time. In class we discussed about the idea that artists may choose to omit a part of
a portrait that is not representative of the person being depicted (such as a random strand of hair
standing up). Additionally, a random ray of light may draw attention to something in the real
world that may also not be of great importance to the person in question. These same problems
are things that can arise in movies and rather than having the viewer interpret and figure out what
is being shown, the director can take on these responsibilities through the use of camera angles,
multiple cuts, editing, artificial lighting, and the use of professional actors who can portray the
director s vision of the characters. Bazin identifies cinema as the human need for realistic
representations. Bazin is a believer in realism and explains the elements of realism consisting of
long takes, deep focus, limited editing, and the use of non professional or relatively unknown
actors (De Sica, Metteur En Scene, p.65). Though realism does have its place in filmmaking, it
would fail to take advantage of the artistic gifts and skills of the director to show what he envisions
the filmto be. After considering both sides carefully, I have come to the conclusion that the
formalist approach to filmmaking is

Surgeon John Kittson s Case Study
The Mounties and horses under the Commissioner also experienced the same fate as the Force
under Macleod; sickness and death of horses, mosquito s bites, sickness of the Mounties, and
loss of hay. Like Macleod, Surgeon John Kittson reported that he and the force, he went with
thought it was reasonable to form a crippled camp . This he said was because they were soon to
enter an unknown country, uninhabited by the (for all we know), hostile Blackfeet, and the Sick,
the Convalescent and the Weak would have been unnecessary encumbrance. As stated by the
Commissioner, of 27 horses that have died since 1st August 1875, debility and injury to the
system produced by want of feed may be considered to be a proximate cause of 17 deaths. The

Muscle Contraction Essay
Q1
Muscle contraction can be understood as the consequence of a process of transmission of action
potentials from one neuron to another. A chemical called acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter
released from the presynaptic neuron. As the postsynaptic cells on the muscle cell membrane
receive the acetylcholine, the channels for the cations sodium and potassium are opened. These
cations produce a net depolarization of the cell membrane and this electrical signal travels along the
muscle fibers. Through the movement of calcium ions, the muscle action potential is taken into
actual muscle contraction with the interaction of two types of proteins, actin and myosin. Different
steps of activities are involved in muscle contraction. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This activity is the critical driving force of muscle contraction. The stream of action potentials along
the muscle fiber surface is terminated as Acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction is broken
down by acetyl cholinesterase. The release of Calcium ions is ceased. The action of the myosin
molecule heads is obstructed because of the change in the configuration of troponin and
tropomyosin due to the absence of calcium ions. This will eventually cause the contraction to be
ceased. Together with these physical processes, an external stretching force such as gravity pulls
the muscle back to its normal length.

Skeletal Muscle Structure. The cells of skeletal muscles are long fiber like structures. They contain
many nuclei and are subdivided into smaller structures called myofibrils. Myofibrils are composed
of 2 kinds of myofilaments. The thin filaments are made of 2 strands of the protein actin and one
strand of a regulatory protein coiled together. The thick filaments are staggered arrays of myosin

A Study On Eating Pathology Among Latinas Essay
THEORETICAL PROPOSITIONS There is a lack of studies that investigate the eating pathology
among Latinas even though there is evidence that a binge eating component (i.e. binge eating
disorder, bulimia nervosa) is more prevalent among Latinas compared with other races. For those
who are engaged in binge eating tend to have unrealistic high expectations for themselves, which
often are difficult to achieve. When the individual, in this case a Latina, has fallen short of these
high expectations, they experience negative affect from which she is motivated to binge eat. Dr.
Neyland proposed that stressful experiences across three domains of interest: individual, family, and
environment. The independent variable of acculturative stress (individual level) is defined as the
stress and reduction in health status that one experiences while going under the process of adapting
to a different culture. Then for family, there is family disconnection, which is not unique to Latinas
but there is a strong emphasis that Latinas place on family relationships. They value it so much that
if they experience family disconnection, they would likely be experienced as failure to meet
cultural standards. And lastly, there is the environmental factor which is discrimination. Among
Latina/os, there is a large amount of reports of discrimination which is believed to have impacted
many to have lower self esteem and a significantly slower growth in self esteem over time. Neyland

eBay Structures Its Bid For Change
Problem Statement Adoption of an improper organizational structure design that is not flexible
enough to the unstable and the rapidly changing external environment in eBay s domestic and
international markets.
Analysis and Evaluation
A functional organizational structure with various operational areas, such as finance, operations,
human resources, and legal units was adopted for the eBay during its establishment. In a functional
structure, workers and activities are organized into areas of their expertise or units given specific
functions. Therefore, the structure promotes efficiency and ... Show more content on

With the exception of PayPal and Skype, the other companies joined the Marketplace category that
offers eBay main Marketplace activities. The Marketplace operation contributes the largest share of
the revenues for eBay, followed by PayPal and Skype with the lowest revenues.
In such a multidivisional structure, there are separate and smaller divisions that perform varying
functions. Every unit of the divisions is more focused in a given area, which makes the structure
have more ability to adapt to market changes than the functional structure. Nevertheless, this kind of
structure leads to duplication of management, administration, and staff activities, thus, there is
inefficiency in the use of functional resources, higher costs, and loss of economies of scale. The
multidivisional structure that was introduced in eBay was services centric because it was focused
on the kind of services provided in each division (Lee et al., 2015).
The changes that have occurred in eBay s organizational structure resulted in the current matrix
structure. This is because the activities of the Company are aligned along more than one line of
authority that is also applying the divisional and functional chains of command. As it is explained
in the case study, each of the three divisional units has a president and its functional areas. This kind
of structure

Green Lantern returning to his apartment to find his girlfriend, Alex DeWitt, murdered and
stuffed in a refrigerator by the villain, Major Force, soon became the name of a website created in
1999 by a group of comic fans to discuss the abuse of female characters.
Women in Refrigerators, coined by writer Gail Simone, features a list of female comic book
characters that have been injured, killed, or depowered, as a plot device within various superhero
comic books and seeks to analyse why these are used disproportionately on female characters.

1. Describe three specific example of how Disney movie can unintentional create roles certain
groups of people through socialization.
Disney creates gender roles, racial roles, and white supremacy through socialization within their
motion pictures. For example, Walt Disney s Snow White , Fantasia , and even The Little
Mermaid all show females as obscenely beautiful, male dependent and flirtatious creatures who
couldn t save themselves from a Chinese finger trap. Males are the perfectly sculpted rescuers who
can be easily wooed by a woman s body; and these exaggerated roles create a false standard for
children and can lead to severely underdeveloped sociological skills. Moving onto the racial roles;

3. Describe a specific example of how Disney can unintentionally set the roles between a man and
woman in an abusive relationship.
In the movie Beauty and the Beast , the role of a man and woman in an abusive relation is
practically spelled out and strait from Disney s female lead jar. Belle is kidnaped by the Beast and
forced o live in the dungeon until her father is ripped away from her. During this time she is
completely defenseless to the Beasts onslaught and often retreats within herself and rarely confronts
him. Beast on the other hand, portraying an abusive male, does everything to a tee. He yells, bangs
on doors, throws furniture, and even threatens starvation when Belle goes against him. Belle, being
the kind and gentle female lead, looks past all his rage and finds he prince inside; highlighting the
common problem in abusive relationships. The abused partner holding onto the hope that their
abuser will change, that they will love them and show them the tenderness that used to be there.
Women (could also be men) are supposed to take the abuse and wait it out, showing nothing but
love while the abuser rampages and eventually, things will be just like the fairy tales.

fiction classics have rivaled each other. Both have strong loyal fans that obsess over these classic
stories. Shirts, costumes, sheets, and action figures are only some of the merchandise sold of these
two films. Star Warsand Star Trek definitely share some similarities being both science fiction
movies. While the similarities are there, especially when many people confuse characters and
plot. Differences account for the awesomeness of each movie. If someone were to place a Star

There variety of different spaceships dwarfs the amount Star Trek has. Most of Star Treks ships
share the saucer head design while in Star Wars, ships designs and functions vary. What is cooler
than a lightsaber. A phaser? Try again. Star Treks weapons consist of phasers, Plasma cannons,
and lasers. Photon torpedoes will never be as exciting to watch as even the most serious
lightsaber duel is more entertaining. All of Star Treks weapons seem pretty dull and boring
(like there spaceships). But you now what s not boring? The (2nd)most destructive weapon ever
created. The planet killer. The Death Star. If you re wondering why I mentioned it as the second
it s because it is only behind StarKiller base. The name fits it s use, Starkiller base is capable of
using the power of a star to destroy multiple planets across a distance of what appears to be light
years. This is far and beyond the power of anything in the Federation fleet. That is scary. There s
no weapon like that in the universe of Star Trek. The lightsaber is an iconic weapon. None are
like it. Now the only thing cooler than a lightsaber is the one who wields it. Ask anyone you see
on the street what a Jedi is and I can almost guarantee you that they will know or will know that
it has to do with Star Wars. Star Wars has had such an impact on the world that there is even a
religion dedicated to the ways of the Jedi. Members span across the globe and it is growing rapidly.

Neutralisation Reaction Lab Report
1. What is a neutralisation reaction?
A neutralisation reaction is a chemical reaction that occurs when equivalent amounts of acid and a
base react to produce salt and water (H2O) (The FreeDictionary.com,2017). The H+(q) ions from
an acid react with the OH‾ ions from an alkali. The equation for this reaction is:
H+(aq)+OH‾(aq)=H2O(l). For example, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solution react
with each other and form water and sodium chloride solution. The acid consists of H+ ions and
Cl‾ ions, and the alkali contains Na+ ions and OH‾ ions. The H+ ions and OH‾ ions create
water, and the Na+ ions and Cl‾ ions create sodium chloride, NaCl (aq) (Bbc.co.uk,2017).

Better Bunsen burners because the fire kept on going off, which disrupted the speed of the

Wire loops should have been cleaned properly, so it didn t disrupt the flame test colour.
More trials should have been done to get accurate results.
More attention should have been paid when the water was nearly evaporated so the crystals didn t
burn and change colour from white to brown.
Conclusion:
The aim of the experiment to perform a chemical neutralisation reaction by using hydrochloric acid
and sodium hydroxide solution was achieved because the base plus acid turned into salt and water.
While performing the flame test using a wire loop along with the white crystals from the
evaporating dish turned the flame to yellow rather than yellowish orange colour, which indicates
sodium. The reason why the solution turned cloudy was that it indicated that the neutralisation
reaction was complete. The worded solution that was formed was silver nitrate + sodium chloride

Junior Year Goals Research Paper
Junior Year Goals My first goal is to stay on top of any reading in english class throughout the
year. I chose this because although I love reading, I m generally a slow reader and this causes
me to get discouraged and fall behind at some points. I plan to achieve this goal by not
procrastinating, and trying my hardest to stay focus on the book instead of outside distractions.
One way to achieve this would be insuring that wherever I read is quiet and free of distractions. By
doing so, this will help me focus on the words, and hopefully speed up my reading pace. My
second goal is becoming more physically active. I chose this goal because as the school year goes
on I seem to become less and less physically active as I am busy with school work. School is

Some ways to achieve this would be to walk my two dogs, as this not only provides exercise for
me, but the dogs as well (they need it just as much as I do). Not only will daily exercise improve
my health, it will teach me time management, which is a long term benefit that I will use for the
rest of my life. My third goal, which will be the most difficult for me, is earning a B grade or
higher on all of my final exams at Xavier. Throughout my academic career, exams have always
been a huge stretch for me. A big part of why I don t do as well as I would prefer on exams is
because of my level of anxiety leading up to it. Study habits are a strength for me, but keeping
myself calm is what I have trouble with. As soon as I walk into the room to take an exam, I start
second guessing my first instinct, even though it is usually correct. By the time I finish, I m
flustered and discouraged. A way to fix this problem would to make sure that my studying is
concrete. By making sure that I have all of the information I need in my head, this should reduce
my stress level. This could include using study guides, becoming involved in a study group, and

Alcatraz was a very famous prison located on a island in the San Francisco bay. It was used for
many different things over the years. All different types of people also stayed there, and not just

When comparing the justice system in Saudi Arabia with the United Sates system they have
nothing in common, the justice system in Saudi Arabia might seem very unethical and cruel, where

The Impact of Online Apparel Stores on in-Store Shopping
The impact of online apparel stores on in store shopping: A complement rather than a substitute
Abstract
Due to the fast development of the Internet and the growing popularity of online shopping, some
argue that the online shopping will substitute store shopping ultimately. For some products such as
books and tickets, that might be true, however, for product like apparel a kind of high risk and
hedonistic product, it is not the case. This essay demonstrates why it is less possible for online
apparel shopping to substitute store apparel shopping and how it serves as a complement for store
apparel shopping. Finally, some implications on how to make the online apparel shopping more
appealing are given. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Travel agencies, newspapers and telecommunication providers have all suffered severe competition
from internet based substitutes (Grant, 1991). However, in store apparel shopping is less
substitutable by online shopping. On the one hand, it is a product of high risk; on the other hand,
the apparel shopping trips to the city center can be more enjoyable.
2.1. Apparel A product of high risk
According to Peter and Tarpey (1975), the risk here can be defined into six components:
financial risk, performance risk, physical risk, psychological risk, social risk and convenience
risk. Consumers perceive a higher level of risk when purchasing on the Internet compared with
traditional retail formats (Lee amp; Tan, 2003). However, not all products have the same level
of risks for online shopping. Bhatnagar, Misra, and Rao (2000) found that consumers might
attempt to purchase low risk or easy to examine products such as books, CDs, and airline tickets
by Internet more than products more complex to assess online, such as apparel. In fact, the
advent of online bookshops such as Amazon has already severely damaged the profits of
conventional bookstores. However, for the products of higher risk, such as apparels, it is less
possible that online shopping will substitute in store shopping. Due to the word limit, I will only
examine financial risks and performance risks that I think are mostly related in online apparel
shopping.
The financial risk refers to the likelihood of

Apollo 13
INTRODUCTION
Apollo 13, the 1995 motion picture directed by Ron Howard, is the true story of Jim Lovell, Fred
Haise, and Jack Swigert, a team of astronauts reassigned to a space flight with diminished
preparation time. This routine mission to the moon suddenly becomes a survival mission to safely
return home to Earth. The film details the circumstances affecting two separate but cohesive teams.
The purpose of this case analysis is to identify the critical events, explain the underlying causes of
why these events happened, and draw logical conclusions about the teamsВЎВЇ performances as
related to effective teamwork and leadership.

In this portion of the analysis, both evidence and inference will be used to examine the stages of
group development, the GRPВЎГєI Model, and team leadership.
The Forming Stage Both teams in the film progress through the four stages of group development;
forming, norming, storming and performing; however, not much emphasis is placed on the initial
forming stage. In the beginning of the film during a party celebrating the first successful moon
landing of Apollo 11, Lovell, Haise and Mattingly appear to have a working/social relationship as
they have already been slated as the team to fly the future Apollo 14 mission. It is inferred that
these men have previously been through the forming stage as the film does not depict a formal
introduction of the team members to each other.
The Norming Stage In the norming stage, the Apollo 13 crew is faced with creating cohesion and
unity, differentiating roles, identifying expectations and enhancing commitment (Whetten
Cameron, 2005). Due to Alan ShepherdВЎВЇs ear infection, however, the crew is bumped up to a
mission ahead of schedule, allowing only six months of actual preparation. The training sequences
within the film, as well as MattinglyВЎВЇs commitment for accuracy and precision, are clear
indicators that the crew is going through the norming stage. When Mattingly is unexpectedly
scrubbed from the mission, and Swigert is moved up into his place, the crew is forced to revert
back to the forming stage. The crew,

Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels Essay
In his book, Gulliver s Travels, it is hard to miss the various references that its author, Johnathan
Swift, makes concerning bodily functions. Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor
one would encounter in a cheeky T.V. show for it has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to
define the literary trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective, Swift employs
scatology to both shock and attract. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity, and
normalize the strangeness of the lands Gulliver visits. By successfully employing elements of the
scatological to enhance his novel, Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic
and the fantastical grotesque. As a result of the grotesque simply being an exaggeration of reality,
Swift by exaggerating the role of bodily functions highlights makes a private subject public and
creates a common thread with his audience. Realism in the context of literature, is defined by the
Carson Newman College as any artistic or literary portrayal of life in a faithful, accurate manner,
unclouded by false ideals, literary conventions, or misplaced aesthetic glorification and
beautification of the world. It is a theory or tendency in writing to depict events in human life in a
matter of fact, straightforward manner. It is an attempt to reflect life as it actually is. The
scatological elements that Swift employs are also present across other artistic forms such as poetry
and paintings, and they

Personal Philosophy Of A Head Coach
Have you ever been in a situation where you just want to speak what is on your mind? Assistant
coaches get this awful feeling more times than what they should. In all sports at any level, there
are always going to be the people who help the head coach. These people are known as the
assistants. I find it quite fitting that these individuals are given the title assistant, given the fact
that their role is exactly how one would define this word. Webster s Dictionary would define an
assistant as a person who gives aid to people. To be a good assistant, Roy Williams once said, A
good assistant beats their head coachto the office and leaves after the head coach. Personally, I do
not agree that this is an important attribute of what a quality would... Show more content on

The assistant coaches must work as a middle man between the players and head coach. In
addition to being the middle man , the assistant coach must be available at any for the players
and the head coach. It appears that it is a need for assistants to have balance and safe places to
express themselves because of their role of being a sounding board. When they find their personal
safe place they are able to take care of their own personal emotions. Coach Corbett informed me
that there are things that the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has available for players and head
coaches, but nothing for the assistants. Coach Corbett made a great quote about this dilemma, Who
is looking out for those who are looking out for everyone

Binge Drinking in Colleges and Universities
A recent event that showcases that binge drinking is still a problem for many college students at
the University of Iowa is the story of one Iowa student during the 2013 football season.
Samantha Goudie, who is a twenty two year old University of Iowa student, was once known as
Vodka Samm not only around the Iowa City area but nationally. One day in a highly intoxicated
state, she tried to jump onto the field during a regular home football game and after quickly being
arrested was known around the nation as The World s Drunkest College Student. She was cited for
having a blood alcohol level of .341 percent, which is more than four times the legal driving limit.
This event just continued to help solidify the Universityof Iowa s out of control party school
reputation. However, it did bring light to the serious problem of the students binge drinkingand its
effects especially during home football games. In 2009, to try to reduce the amount of underage
and binge drinking, Iowa City passed an ordinance that banned people under the age of twenty one
from being in the bars pass 10:00 PM. Since this ordinance was enacted there has been a drop in the
number of citations for public intoxication, possession of alcohol for minors, and driving under the
influence. (Hennigan) The ordinance has brought good change to the city, but many people argue
that instead of actually changing the amount people drink it has only shifted where and how people
drink alcohol. Since the ordinance

Why Should Slang Be Banned In School
Walking down a school hallway, one is guaranteed to hear slang being used by nearly all the
students. This is because slang is one of the most popular forms of communication, especially
among youth. However, there is much debate over whether slang should be banned in school.
Banning slang is schools could have consequences and lead to separation among students. Slang
should be allowed in schools because it is an easy and fun way for students to communicate with
each other, it establishes commonality among students, and banning slang could potentially alienate
students. Although slang should not be banned, it is important for students to learn when it is
appropriate to use slang. Slang provides a sense of identity and commonality among students. The

While this tribe may be a majority of youth or just a small group of friends, slang can still allow
students to feel included. Students will feel more comfortable around people who use the same
words or phrases as them. People in general are constantly trying to find ways to relate and connect
with others. Slang allows people, mainly teenagers, to relate with one another using language.
Therefore, slang can help form friendships among students and create a friendly environment at
schools. The slang students use to connect with others also gives them a sense of identity. A person
s identity is heavily associated with the people they relate to and spend time with. Essentially, a
student s tribe can reflect their identity. Teenagers are the group that struggle the most with finding
their identity as they grow into adults. Since teenagers are in a constant battle to find their identity,

Explain How Organisations Use Information
P1 Explain How Organisations Use Information
What is information?
Information is very important when used in organisations. Organisations need to have accurate and
quality information so the information is reliable. There is Date and Information, Data is raw facts
or figures that have not yet been processed, data is things such as times, weights, measurements and
scales. Information is data that is useable, such as TV listings, bus timetables. Etc. there are two
types of data, Qualitative date and Quantitative data.
Qualitative date involves date/information that cannot be measured in the usual way; this is
because it is spoken or written. So for example if an organisation did a survey and needed
information on a product from them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benefits and Drawbacks of Primary and Secondary data
When collecting information and data, it can take a while and also needs to be done right, so that
you can read from the results and use them as valid data for you organisation. Secondary can be
beneficial for you and your organisation, because you get another organisation, it is therefore easier
for you since you don t need to gather all of the information yourself. This can benefit you in
giving you more time to focus on other organisations, but at the same time using secondary data
can have a drawback for you and your organisation. Since it is not you collecting and gathering all
of the data yourself, the data can be collected wrong, therefore can have a huge impact on your own
organisation by having incorrect data.
Primary data however is also good and bad, on the good side, you are gathering and collecting the
data independently, since gathering data correctly is important and cannot afford any mistakes,
since this can impact on your results you have gathered. This is why by doing it yourself, you can
rely on yourself to collect that data correctly. But, this can also affect you and your time, by doing
this independently with your business, you are using up time what could be necessary for you and
your organisation.

Distinguish Between Micro, Mecio And Macro Levels Of Practice
Distinguish between micro, mezzo and macro levels of practice and provide an example for
each. There are various differences between micro, mezzo and macro levels of practice. The micro
level consists of a one on one session with the social worker to strengthen the client s coping skills
and self esteem. The microis based on an individual level referring to the day to day setting
inhabited by the person and people they live with. It focuses on the individual or family. Examples
include finding housing for the individual, healthcare or substance abuse help. It expands as the
person grows. An example would be drawing a diagram with the individual or family being the
focus and everything outside of that circle would be affecting the familyor individual in several
ways. The focus is on the micro level because it pertains to either the individual or the family.
The mezzo level is about the individual s surrounding environment. It pertains to neighborhoods,
schools and other entities. It is about providing services for the neighborhood or community. For
example, the focus may be on making schools aware of certain mental health services and helping
them obtain them.
The macro level is the organization, assumptions, myths, and ideologies of the larger world. The
universe hosting the smaller systems. An example of this would be lobby days; individuals come
together to advocate for a larger scale policy change. Once the change occurs, it will affect
everything within that

Little Bluestem-Dry Ecosystems
Little Bluestem Dry Mesic also occurs mostly in the Northern half of the park, primarily on the
side slopes of cuestas, seen in Figure #. The elevation of Little Bluestem Dry Mesic varies
significantly. It reaches from almost as low as 1290 feet up to 1335 feet (Keane, 2015). Due to
this variance in elevation, there is slightly more of a difference in soilqualities from higher to
lower. The primary soil type present is Benfield with some Dwight Irwin Complex occurring in
the lowest elevations (USDA, 2015). The Benfield soil in this ecosystem is still relatively shallow
with the A Horizon reaching a depth of 10 feet and the next horizon, Bt1 reaching only another 9
feet down. The parent material for Benfield is pedisediment over residuum weathered from shale,
allowing for smaller clay particles to form.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the Dwight Irwin soil has more of a deeper, moister quality. Benfield and Dwight Irwin
soils do allow for more species richness than other lower elevated ecosystems but due to the drier
soils, Little Bluestem is still the most dominant plant recorded. The dominance of Little Bluestem
extends down to the lowest boundaries of the ecosystem, indicating that the soil conditions do stay
relatively consistent, despite the change in soil type. This allows Little Bluestem to again be the
dominant plant species component. The drier qualities of the upper Benfield soil combine with the
slightly moister qualities of the lower Dwight Irwin soil to give the Dry Mesic classification. These
soil moisture content qualities, the location of this ecosystem along side slopes, and the consistent
dominance of the Little Bluestem plant species allows this ecosystem to be classified as Little
Bluestem Dry

James K. Polk s Achievements

America. Their contributions to society has changed America for the better or worse, and also

our previous presidents. An example of an influential figure who has made numerous
accomplishments that benefitted America is the former president, James K. Polk. Polk lived from
the year 1795 to 1849, and was the eleventh President of the United States, who served for one

The point of the protective tariffs was that the Northern states would manufacture their own
products to avoid benefitting foreign countries. This was a disadvantage for the South as they
had no benefits from it. Polk had appointed his Secretary of the Treasure, Robert J. Walker, to
lower the tariff rates of products to a standard rate, this was known as the Walker Tariff. It
lowered the taxes on items that were a necessity, and increased for luxury items. The political
effects of the Walker Tariff was political conflict between the North and the South. The North was
against such a law because it provided less profit from the South. The South benefitted in a way
that they did not have to pay too much on exports of foreign countries. This benefitted the United
States economically because it encouraged the South to trade and export their extra crops to
countries abroad. As a result, relations among America and Britain had improved because the
Walker Tariff encouraged free trade between them. It also allowed Britain to import the grains

Analysis Of Judith Wright s Asiatic Drinker ,...
Australian Poet Judith Wright exploits her concerns for the environment and human rights within
society; these themes are present in Metho Drinker , Remittance Man and Sanctuary . The idea of
human nature is exposed through an archetype of addiction, where lack of empathy and
compassion is expressed through the microcosm of society. Metho Drinker , being an existential
work, depicts Wrights concerns of modern progress and exclusion. Wright exposes the entrapment
of both figures with themes of conformity verses individualism, the inevitability of death and man s
relationship with nature. Poetic techniques such as omniscient narrative and third person are used
to heighten tension between reality and us as the responder. As an audience Remittance Man
compels us to reflect upon the English class system of the 1900 s and the lack of human
compassion towards migrants and lower classes. This contradicts Sanctuary , which foreshadows
the eventual destruction of nature through the progression of society s modern world. Personally I
was impressed by Wright s position as an advocate for those without a voice, be it individuals or
those of the natural world.
Wright as a social activist, reveals society s denial of individuals who do not conform, casting them
into a state of oblivion:
... nowhere, suited his book, the freak who could never settle .
This metaphor in Remittance Man depicts his exclusion from society, due to his inability to
conform to the moral code of the

The Sexual Dysfunction Problem for Men
Premature ejaculation (PE) is a frequent and under treated problem for males and their sexual
partners. PE is the most common sexual dysfunction problem for men, with an estimated 14
30% of males ages 18 years and older reporting PE globally. However, the prevalence of PE is
difficult to determine because of the ambiguity surrounding the definition of clinically relevant PE
as well as the reluctance of sufferers to report their condition . Yet, most previously published
clinical trials use the DSM IV TR definition of PE, defined as : A.Persistent or recurrent pattern of
ejaculation occurring during partnered sexual activity within approximately 1 minute following
vaginal penetration and before the individual wishes it (Note: Although the diagnosis of PE may
apply to individuals engaged in non vaginal sexual activities, specific duration criteria have not
been established for these activities) B.The symptom in Criterion A must have been present for at
least 6 months and must be experienced on almost all or (approximately 75% 100%) all occasions
of sexual activity (in identified situational contexts or, if generalized, in all contexts) C.The
symptom in Criteria A causes clinically significant distress in the individual. D.The sexual
dysfunction is not better explained by a nonsexual mental disorder or as a consequence of severe
relationship distress or other significant stressors and is not attributable to the effects of a substance

Review 3.1. Core Competence Much of the research on competitive advantage focused on core
competencies as a major source of that advantage, core competencies include the particular set of
skills and resources affirm possesses as well as the way those resources are used to produce
outcomes (Fiol, 2001). The concept of core competence, as fundamental to organizational renewal
and as a driving force behind strategic change, interests both managers and scholars. It is a complex
and challenging concept: it is difficult to specify theoretically, to identify empirically as a
phenomenon, and to apply in practice. Scholars have recently recognized these problems in general
conceptual discussions (Hafsi and Thomas, 2005) and in core competence specific empirical
research (Wang et al., 2004). Competencies are commonly agreed to reside in individuals and teams
of individuals, implying that the competence concept involves a cumulative hierarchy. This
cumulative hierarchy notion is evident in many streams of research concerning the

I was really shocked that he didn t have his own caseworker. Most adults that I know that have a

different stages in their life. I felt that this movie did a somewhat good job of portraying the
developmental disability of mental retardation.
This film has affected me as a potential service provider in a couple of different ways. If I were the
child s caseworker, I would try to work as a family to problem solve instead of going against the
father. The next thing I would do, would be to get Sam a caseworker or steer him to the right
direction of having one. I would also find resources to help him and his daughter as a family.
I did learn several new things about mental retardation during my research after the film. Mental
Retardation is often referred to as Intellectual Disability now. Also there is a new system to
assessing people for Mental Retardation. This system is called The Supports Intensity Scale
(SIS) ( Tool emphasizes needed, 2004). It assesses the individual as a whole and not just based of
their IQ test. I find that it is extremely important to assess individuals as a whole and not just off
of one area. This way as a service provider you have a better picture of the person as a whole and

Analysis Of Flesh And Blood So Cheap By Albert Marin
FLESH AND BLOOD SO CHEAP ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY Is your school or office
prepared for a fire if one ever did happen? Albert Marrin s text, Flesh and Blood so Cheap shows
a factory that was not prepared for the fire that was awaiting it. Marrin uses implicit and explicit
evidence to hint towards his overall theme that safety concerns should be a priority for business
owners. The Triangle Fire was a disaster, killing 146 people. There were ways in which it could
ve been prevented but those were overlooked. The fire couldn t ve been predicted, so safety was
not a priority. Marrin uses explicit and implicit evidence to develop his thesis along the way.
The explicit evidence is the easy one to find out of the two. Some of the explicit evidence Marrin
uses are the facts that there were no lights in the stairway and that the ninth floor exit was locked.
Since there were no lights in the stairway, people could ve tripped or fallen and then get run over
by the crowd. Also, since the ninth door exit was locked, people couldn t get out, leading to many

evidence that you can find in Marrin s text are right in front of your eyes such as in the title. The

part later in the story that explains how people couldn t open the doors because everyone was
pushing against them. That means that the doors opened inward and usually, for safety reasons, the
doors should open outward so that type of thing doesn t happen. That means that the owners didn t
take into consideration the escape route that their workers would use. Those details that I just gave
are some examples of implicit evidence that Marrin used in Flesh and Blood so

Evaluation Of The Montford Unit Offers Services
Following this even further, the Montford unit offers services to admitted patients regardless if
they are offenders or general medical issues for individuals. The services that are provided is
550 psychiatric beds, a 48 bed general medical and surgical unit, gardens for the Lubbock food

First, He is taken by Native Americans and brought back to their village. Because of who he is,
he is hated by all of the other dogs in the village, up to the point where he was attacked by his
newly made rival, Lip lip. he and Lip lip clash with each other many more times, up to point
where they both have to be met with a face full of stones to be driven back. White Fang was turned
into a furious demon of the camp because of these fights. Wherever there was trouble and uproar
in camp, fighting and squabbling or the outcry of a squaw over a bit of stolen meat, they were sure
to find White Fang mixed up in it and usually at the bottom of it. (London, 149)
It only got worse when all the dogs were against him, and he had to fend for himself. To top it all
off his owner, Gray Beaver, was his master, and did as he saw fit to White Fang. Punishments
were most severe, and no love was shared between the 2, only service. The terms were simple.
For the possession of a flesh and blood god, he exchanged his own liberty. Food and fire,
protection and companionship were some of the things he received from the god. In return, he
guarded the god s property, defended his body, worked for him, and obeyed him. (London,

The Impact of the Three Principles of the People on China...
We shall establish a united Chinese Republic in order that all the peoples Manchus, Mongols,
Tibetans, Tartars and Chinese should constitute a single powerful nation.... Such a nationalism is
possible, and we must pursue it. Sun Yat sen, Three Principles of the People. Countless nationalists
across the world seek for the rights Dr. Sun Yat sen stated in his Principles. Sun Yat sen was born
in Cuiheng, a small village in Guangzhou Province, during the Qing Dynasty in 1866. At this time,
the Qing was slowly declining. The Taiping Rebellion, an unsuccessful, large scale revolt against
the Qing dynasty led by Hong Xiuquan, threatened the survival of the empire, the Confucian
system. The ascension of the two year old Emperor Puyi also made... Show more content on

Because of this, Sun stated that a modern and ideal government system must be established. Sun
had his new government system divided into two powers: the power of politics and the power
of governance. The powers of politics are the rights of the people to express their political
wishes. An example of this today is Britain s Parliament s House of Commons. Sun declares that
the people have four major rights or civil rights, which are: election, recall, initiative, and
referendum (ABC CLIO Sun Yat sen ). Election means the right to vote, recall is the right to
remove an elected official from power, initiative is the right to petition and referendum is the
right to refer measures passed by the legislative branch to the approval or rejection of the
electorate. The second power was the power of governance or the power of the officials. Sun
proposed the use of a five branch government system within the power of governance, including
the three branch system of the U.S. (Legislative, Judicial and Executive), the use of checks and
balances, as well as two other branches: Control Branch (similar to the Censorate Branch) and the
Examination Branch (similar to the branch responsible for the Civil Service Exams). The Second
Principle of the People was meant to represent a Western style of government (ABC CLIO Sun
Yat sen ). The last principle of Sun s Three Principles of the People is the development of

Essay on Portrayals of John Anderton
Portrayals of John Anderton
Imagine a world in which the thought of murder is a thing of the past; a world that has
successfully abolished the system of jails and fines with the aid of gifted individuals that can
predict the future (Dick 72). Such a crime free world exists in Philip K. Dick s famous short story,
The Minority Report. Using the adaptation made by screenwriters, Scott Frank and Jon Cohen,
DreamWorks was able to release the film version of Dick s short story in 2002. Furthermore, this
futuristic age film was directed by the famous director, Stephen Spielberg. The main focus of the
short story and film surrounds the lead character John Anderton and his efforts to understand the

down. His wife, Lisa, and Ed Witwer, the young man brought in to replace him when he retires,
are two of the main individuals he suspects as his conspirators. Furthermore, unknowing to
Anderton, his so called victim and the one behind the conspiracy, Kaplan, sends one of his men,
Tod Fleming, to help Anderton escape his predicament. This was Kaplan s way to bring Anderton
and his Precrime unit under the Army s control. In his quest to find the minority report, the
document that is to prove his innocence and clear his name, he discovers the truth about his true
friends and enemies . This discovery also enables him to prevent the army from obtaining control
of domestic policing in the nation (Landrith). The story concludes after Anderton fulfills the
prediction made by the precogs and kills Kaplan, he is then punished for his crime by being sent
into exile to a far away region in the galaxy.
Who is John Anderton? In the Philip K. Dick s short story he is the founder and commissioner of
the policing unit, Precrime. He is described as bald, fat and old , and is in his mid fifties. One of
the successes of the adaptation of the character of Anderton onto the big screen is that the movie
portrays Anderton as a younger and more active man than in the short story. Appealing to the mass

Muscle Cells Essay
Anatomy of Muscle Cells
There are three types of muscle tissue in the human body. These muscle tissues are skeletal
muscles, smooth muscles and cardiac muscles. Each of these muscle tissues has it very own
anatomical makeup, which vary from muscle to muscle. The muscle cells in a muscle are referred
to as muscle fibers, these fibers are skeletal muscle fibers, smooth muscle fibers and cardiac muscle
fibers.
The anatomy of a skeletal muscle fiber is formed during embryonic development. Skeletal muscle
fibers arise from a hundred or more small mesodermal cells called myoblasts. The mature skeletal
muscle fiber has a hundred or more nuclei. Once fusion occurs the skeletal muscle fiber will lose
the ability to undergo cell division. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The sarcoplasmic reticulum is a fluid filled system of membranous sacs. This system of sacs is
similar to smooth endplasmic reticulum in non muscle cells. In a relaxed muscle fiber the
sarcoplasmic reticulum store calcium ions, the release of these calcium cells, trigger muscle
contraction.
There are two types of structures which are even smaller, they are known as thick and thin
filaments. The filaments inside of a myofibril do not extend the entire length of a muscle cell,
instead they are arranged in compartments called sarcomeres. The darker middle portion of a
sarcomere is called the A band. The A band extends the entire length of the thick filaments. The A
band is a zone of overlap. The I band is a lighter less dense area that contains the rest of the thin
filaments, but has no thick filaments. A Z disk passes through the center of each I band.
The next form of muscle fiber is smooth muscle fiber, these fibers are considerably smaller than
skeletal muscle fibers. A single smooth muscle fiber is thirty to two hundred micrometers long,
thick centered and tapered at the ends. These smooth muscle fibers have a single nucleus that is
centrally located and oval in shape. Smooth muscle fiber contains thick filaments and thin
filaments. These filaments are in ratios of 1:10 and 1:15, but are not

Thunder and Early Scientific Theory Essay
Thunder and Early Scientific Theory
It lends its name to one of the most common weather phenomenon on Earth the thunderstorm and
its associated elements: the thunderhead, thunder cloud, thunder bolt, thundershower and thunder
clap. Early humans believed thunder came from the deities the voice and expression of their god(s).
The roster of thunder gods includes: Thor of the Scandinavians, Donar of the Germans, Zeus of the
Greeks, Jupiter of the Romans, Taranis of the Celts, Perkunis of the Slavs, Indra of the Indians and
Shango of the Nigerian Yoruba. Each is know to throw thunderbolts or bundles of lightning at the
earth while their voices reverberates across the heavens.

They both believed that air smashing against the clouds caused thunder and, as the air struggled its
way through the clouds, it kindled a flame which was lightning.
Anaxogoras (ca 499 427 BC), however, believed that thunder resulted when fire flashing through
clouds (lightning) was quenched by the water in the cloud. Democritus (ca 460 370 BC), on the
other hand, suggested that thunder and lightning were due to the unequal mixing of particles
within clouds which caused violent motions, the resulting sound of which was thunder.
Aristotle (384 322 BC), in his series of essays entitled Meteorologica (written around 334 BC),
wrote that thunder occurs when
the dry exhalation that gets trapped when the air is in the process of colliding is forcibly ejected as
the clouds condense and in its course strikes the surrounding clouds, and the noise caused by the
impact is what we call thunder...similarly the windy exhalations in the clouds produces thunder
when it strikes a dense cloud formation. Different kinds of sound are produced because of the lack
of uniformity in the clouds and because hollows occur where their density is not continuous.
He also wrote that, in general,
the ejected winds burns with a fine and gentle fire and it is then what we call lightning, which
occurs when the falling wind appears to

American Involvement In The United States Essay
The role of the United States now should be less involved with other countries because the
United State gets involved with other places too quickly even if it is right or wrong. Our country
also takes land that will benefit us more than others all for the wrong reasons. Also we are going
head on head with other countries for power and while fighting for power other groups are evolving
from conflicts. The United Statesgets involved in other countries even if it is not necessary.
According to Mark Twain he once said that it is going against our traditions and we are entering in
an unjust and trivial war. This war is against helpless people and robbery. The United States should

We did this because we wanted to be able to trade sugar with them and have a navel base.
Geography Cuba was in a great location. In Fidel Castro s offer with the United States he said that
the United States should resume sugar purchase from Cuba. The trade between these two places
turned out to benefit both but without us taking control over Cuba and saying we were helping
them then none of the trade would happened. Once we came into Cuba to help we pushed the
people in a portion on the land they could have and took the rest for our own good.
In present day now we still have problems with power between countries now. In an article by
Toby Craig Jones he starts out saying how the in the Middle East the oil production has
enchanted global powers and the United States has been particularly powerful. It is surprising on
how we are the ones in power even though we aren t the ones producing the oil. All this oil
production is happening in the Middle East where Americans aren t really liked because we had
troops their taking control of things. From being over there more and more terrorist groups are
rising trying to take over the power. All countries are fighting for the same thing, power.
Overall, the role of the United States should be less involved due to past and present events. Not
only do we do thing for all the wrong reasons people still support them even of it going against
their morals. Please keep

Multinational Corporations ( Mncs ) Essay
The enterprises that operate in numerous countries to produce or provide services outside their
original countries can be identified as Multinational Corporations (MNCs), or Transnational
Corporations (TNCs). Usually, an MNC can produce at least 25 percent of its world output outside
of its country of origin. Recently, a new breed of MNC emerges thanks to Internet based
communication tools. They begin their operations in different countries very early on. Because
they are small businesses, these companies are being called micro multinationals to distinguish
them from larger MNCs. Several of these micro multinationals are software development
companies. They have been looking for employees in many countries since the start of the age of
the Internet. Nowadays, an increasing number of micro multinationals actively market their
products and services in numerous nations. The use of Internet tools like Google, Yahoo, MSN,
Ebay and Amazon makes it easier for the micro multinationals to reach potential customers in
other countries. There are many ways to explain the diverse and manifold growth of the
multinationals. Those include these factors: (1) Expansion of market skills, (2) Superior
marketing, (3) Huge financial resources, (4) Technological edge. Expansion of Market Skill After
India announced the liberalized foreign investment policy in 1991, a growth spurt in the number of
MNCs as well as foreign collaborations occurred. The MNCs in India are very diverse. Though they

Violation Of Nonverbal Communication Violations
This week I decided the behavior I d choose to violate would be physical appearance and space. I
decided on violating these specifically because I felt like these specific nonverbal
communication behaviors would generate the most amounts of different reactions from those
around me. I also took this as a bit of a challenge for myself as I see myself as someone who is very
aware of my physical appearance at all times as well as respectful with it comes to others
personal space, so breaking two of my own nonverbal behavior rules would be something
different and out of character for me. My first violation was Tuesday morning, I work in the
biology department at FIU, so I am always expected to look at least business casual and have
your hair nicely done, which usually I ironed mine. This particular day I walked into work
wearing sweatpants, a baggy T shirt, and some old gym shoes I ve owned for a few years that
were filthy and worn out, my hair was even in its natural afro like curly mess. Giving a massage
that I did not care nor did I want to be there, my supervisor got the message loud and clear. Since
I was not dressed correctly I was told to put on a giant lab coat to cover up my clothing. When
my coworker showed up he thought I looked comfortable and didn t care whether I was dressed
in business casual or not! He wasn t the only one who didn t have a problem with my outfit; the
other teaching assistants (TA s) kept telling me how envious they were of my very casual and

How Video Games Changed Throughout History
From Fad to Phenomenon: How Video Games Changed Throughout History
Around the middle of the 20th Century man cultures started to grow beyond what they
previously were thanks to different mediums (such as television and music) helping to push
boundaries; with this came the birth of pop culture. Considering pop culture is a shortened
version of popular culture it s clear that many of the things in pop culture would be short lived.
The short lived trends and happenings are labeled as fads . Strangely enough, some fads
progress beyond their short lifespan and actually become a mainstay in the varying international
cultures. One such example might be familiar as it is common in today s society. This example
is, indeed, video games. When video games were first being introduced to the general public,
they weren t all that exciting. Most gaming took place in arcades and most arcades didn t have
many game cabinets due to their being very few games to begin with. However, all of this
changed when the Atari 2600 was released. At the time, Atari was known for their home computers
and their hit arcade game Pong . Though the Atari 2600 might not have been the first video game
system, it was definitely the most successful at that time and a great success for Atari s first attempt
at a home video game console. Thanks to the success of the 2600, video games began to take off
and arcades started popping up all over the world with hits like Pac Man and Donkey Kong . These
would be the

Airlines Don t Thank You for Flying
Yes, hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is your captain speaking. Thank you for flying with
Overpriced Airlines even though you don t really have a choice because this was still the
cheapest flight you could find two weeks before your boss sprung this surprise no expenses paid
business trip on you. It will take about two and a half hours to fly three hundred miles to get you
to your destination, not taking into account the 45 minute delay due to some less than
cooperative passengers, and some very smart regulations. I know that having you board was a
pain especially since we have you do it by group number, which you have no control over,
instead by row number, which just creates a giant clump of people that takes an extra 20 minutes
to sort out. Also, we are very (not) sorry about the fact that a controlling boyfriend stole your seat
without asking you or us to try and accommodate him, just so he can sit next to his girlfriend that
is clearly not enjoying life as of right now so either way your flight is going to suck because he
is supposed to sit next to a mother with a newborn baby who is not having any of this. Also, we
are kind of sorry, but not really, about the fact that people who clearly needed to check a bag in
didn t and is trying to fit their 30 pound bag into the overhead bin and refuse to check their bag in
when the flight attendant tells them to, insisting, I got this. They will finally check it in after many
failed attempts and then the rest of the

Female Characters In Lavinia
Lavinia is a female character who has shown up in many texts throughout history. In Titus Livius
(Livy), The History of Rome, the role of women is consistently downplayed and is overshadowed
by men craving power through conquest and war during the evolution of Rome. Livy briefly
mentions Lavinia in the second chapter of the first book in The History of Rome, The Aborigines
and Trojans were soon after attacked together in war. Turnus, king of the Rutulians, to whom
Lavinia had been affianced before the coming of Aeneas... (Livy I, 2). Livy does not describe
Lavinia s character or tell us anything more about her. The character of Lavinia is suppressed by
the overwhelming masculinity of male characters in their conquest for power and is presented to us
only as a supplement to her male counterparts. In Smethurst s article analyzing Livy s
characterization of women, A womanmay even cause trouble unintentionally, since her fateful gift
of beauty can induce a man to neglect his most solemn duty, devotion to the State (Smethurst, 83).
This quote implies that a woman, and more specifically Lavinia, is nothing but a distraction to a
man and his important duties and obligations to his beloved Rome. Livy s History also mentions
the female characters of Cloelia, Virginia, Lucretia, and Veturia who are given masculine
characteristics, which is also done by Chaucer to the wife in The Wife of Bath s Tale. Perhaps the
assignment of male characteristics to female characters was done so

California Water Conservation
California recently implemented its new public policy of mandatory water conservation for lawns,
hotels, and restaurants. This policy was passed because of the environmental conditions that are
harming the state. This coincides with stage 1 of the policy cycle stage, agenda setting. In this
stage, the problem is highlighted to the general public: Californias scarcity of water supply.
California has experienced a water drought for four years, and water levels are reaching a critical
low. The past three years have been the driest three years in California history dating back to the
Gold Rush. On Tuesday, the Sierra snowpack was at 13 percent of its historic average, and many of

considering that Governor Brown has already asked California residents to reduce their water
consumption, and they haven t been able to meet his desired goal of reducing water usage by

because it will ensure that the water is being used wisely. Only the people and businesses that
have to use so much water will be able to pay the fines, and those that find the fines to be
expensive will

  • 2. Paul Laurence Dunbar And Maya Angelou Comparison For each of us, freedom plays a very important role in this life. With me, I think there is nothing which is greater than we are free to do what we want to do, dream what we want to dream or simply, eat what we want to eat. We all worship freedom. I or Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya Angelou do too. Paul Laurence Dunbar and Maya Angelou expressed their freedom through their poems which are Sympathy and Caged Bird in a very personal, dramatic and profound way. Although we were published in two different times, I feel that these two poems also have harmonies in ideas or the way the authors think about freedom in them. Besides, each of them contains their own characteristics which make them have their own colors and meaning. During the civil rights era, the racism, that horrible system that discriminates against people based on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Maya Angelou and Paul Larence Dunbar were African American, who grew up in that era so they experienced and felt the sadness and pain that Africa Americans when they became slaves for White people received at that time. From the same feeling, the same inspiration, the poems express their feeling when they used to face with that discrimination in their life every single day. The poems also assert the importance of freedom and its value in life. Besides the coincidence of the subject and circumstances of the birth of these two poems, there is another interesting similiar thing is that the image of a bird which is trapped in a cage is used as a metaphor to symbolize African Americans who suffered racial discrimination during this period. I feel this is a very interesting metaphor. That same point also makes the poems special and have very personal beauty , not to be confused with other poems. Birds are always associated as a symbol of freedom. Everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Human Need For Realistic Representations When photographs and film were first invented it was seen as a means for capturing reality. They would replace paintings in the role of capturing reality, due to the ability to capture pictures in real time. In class we discussed about the idea that artists may choose to omit a part of a portrait that is not representative of the person being depicted (such as a random strand of hair standing up). Additionally, a random ray of light may draw attention to something in the real world that may also not be of great importance to the person in question. These same problems are things that can arise in movies and rather than having the viewer interpret and figure out what is being shown, the director can take on these responsibilities through the use of camera angles, multiple cuts, editing, artificial lighting, and the use of professional actors who can portray the director s vision of the characters. Bazin identifies cinema as the human need for realistic representations. Bazin is a believer in realism and explains the elements of realism consisting of long takes, deep focus, limited editing, and the use of non professional or relatively unknown actors (De Sica, Metteur En Scene, p.65). Though realism does have its place in filmmaking, it would fail to take advantage of the artistic gifts and skills of the director to show what he envisions the filmto be. After considering both sides carefully, I have come to the conclusion that the formalist approach to filmmaking is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Muscle Contraction Essay Q1 Muscle contraction can be understood as the consequence of a process of transmission of action potentials from one neuron to another. A chemical called acetylcholine is the neurotransmitter released from the presynaptic neuron. As the postsynaptic cells on the muscle cell membrane receive the acetylcholine, the channels for the cations sodium and potassium are opened. These cations produce a net depolarization of the cell membrane and this electrical signal travels along the muscle fibers. Through the movement of calcium ions, the muscle action potential is taken into actual muscle contraction with the interaction of two types of proteins, actin and myosin. Different steps of activities are involved in muscle contraction. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This activity is the critical driving force of muscle contraction. The stream of action potentials along the muscle fiber surface is terminated as Acetylcholine at the neuromuscular junction is broken down by acetyl cholinesterase. The release of Calcium ions is ceased. The action of the myosin molecule heads is obstructed because of the change in the configuration of troponin and tropomyosin due to the absence of calcium ions. This will eventually cause the contraction to be ceased. Together with these physical processes, an external stretching force such as gravity pulls the muscle back to its normal length. • 6. A Study On Eating Pathology Among Latinas Essay THEORETICAL PROPOSITIONS There is a lack of studies that investigate the eating pathology among Latinas even though there is evidence that a binge eating component (i.e. binge eating disorder, bulimia nervosa) is more prevalent among Latinas compared with other races. For those who are engaged in binge eating tend to have unrealistic high expectations for themselves, which often are difficult to achieve. When the individual, in this case a Latina, has fallen short of these high expectations, they experience negative affect from which she is motivated to binge eat. Dr. Neyland proposed that stressful experiences across three domains of interest: individual, family, and environment. The independent variable of acculturative stress (individual level) is defined as the stress and reduction in health status that one experiences while going under the process of adapting to a different culture. Then for family, there is family disconnection, which is not unique to Latinas but there is a strong emphasis that Latinas place on family relationships. They value it so much that if they experience family disconnection, they would likely be experienced as failure to meet cultural standards. And lastly, there is the environmental factor which is discrimination. Among Latina/os, there is a large amount of reports of discrimination which is believed to have impacted many to have lower self esteem and a significantly slower growth in self esteem over time. The Marketplace operation contributes the largest share of the revenues for eBay, followed by PayPal and Skype with the lowest revenues. In such a multidivisional structure, there are separate and smaller divisions that perform varying functions. Every unit of the divisions is more focused in a given area, which makes the structure have more ability to adapt to market changes than the functional structure. Nevertheless, this kind of structure leads to duplication of management, administration, and staff activities, thus, there is inefficiency in the use of functional resources, higher costs, and loss of economies of scale. The multidivisional structure that was introduced in eBay was services centric because it was focused on the kind of services provided in each division (Lee et al., 2015). The changes that have occurred in eBay s organizational structure resulted in the current matrix structure. Belle is kidnaped by the Beast and forced o live in the dungeon until her father is ripped away from her. During this time she is completely defenseless to the Beasts onslaught and often retreats within herself and rarely confronts him. Beast on the other hand, portraying an abusive male, does everything to a tee. He yells, bangs on doors, throws furniture, and even threatens starvation when Belle goes against him. Belle, being the kind and gentle female lead, looks past all his rage and finds he prince inside; highlighting the common problem in abusive relationships. The abused partner holding onto the hope that their abuser will change, that they will love them and show them the tenderness that used to be there. • 12. Neutralisation Reaction Lab Report 1. What is a neutralisation reaction? A neutralisation reaction is a chemical reaction that occurs when equivalent amounts of acid and a base react to produce salt and water (H2O) (The FreeDictionary.com,2017). The H+(q) ions from an acid react with the OH‾ ions from an alkali. The equation for this reaction is: H+(aq)+OH‾(aq)=H2O(l). For example, hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solution react with each other and form water and sodium chloride solution. The acid consists of H+ ions and Cl‾ ions, and the alkali contains Na+ ions and OH‾ ions. The H+ ions and OH‾ ions create water, and the Na+ ions and Cl‾ ions create sodium chloride, NaCl (aq) (Bbc.co.uk,2017). 2. Did neutralisation reaction occur in the practical? Explain. ... The Impact of Online Apparel Stores on in-Store Shopping The impact of online apparel stores on in store shopping: A complement rather than a substitute Abstract Due to the fast development of the Internet and the growing popularity of online shopping, some argue that the online shopping will substitute store shopping ultimately. For some products such as books and tickets, that might be true, however, for product like apparel a kind of high risk and hedonistic product, it is not the case. Travel agencies, newspapers and telecommunication providers have all suffered severe competition from internet based substitutes (Grant, 1991). However, in store apparel shopping is less substitutable by online shopping. On the one hand, it is a product of high risk; on the other hand, the apparel shopping trips to the city center can be more enjoyable. 2.1. Apparel A product of high risk According to Peter and Tarpey (1975), the risk here can be defined into six components: financial risk, performance risk, physical risk, psychological risk, social risk and convenience risk. Consumers perceive a higher level of risk when purchasing on the Internet compared with traditional retail formats (Lee amp; Tan, 2003). However, not all products have the same level of risks for online shopping. Bhatnagar, Misra, and Rao (2000) found that consumers might attempt to purchase low risk or easy to examine products such as books, CDs, and airline tickets by Internet more than products more complex to assess online, such as apparel. • 17. Apollo 13 INTRODUCTION Apollo 13, the 1995 motion picture directed by Ron Howard, is the true story of Jim Lovell, Fred Haise, and Jack Swigert, a team of astronauts reassigned to a space flight with diminished preparation time. This routine mission to the moon suddenly becomes a survival mission to safely return home to Earth. The film details the circumstances affecting two separate but cohesive teams. The purpose of this case analysis is to identify the critical events, explain the underlying causes of why these events happened, and draw logical conclusions about the teamsВЎВЇ performances as related to effective teamwork and leadership. In this portion of the analysis, both evidence and inference will be used to examine the stages of group development, the GRPВЎГєI Model, and team leadership. The Forming Stage Both teams in the film progress through the four stages of group development; forming, norming, storming and performing; however, not much emphasis is placed on the initial forming stage. In the beginning of the film during a party celebrating the first successful moon landing of Apollo 11, Lovell, Haise and Mattingly appear to have a working/social relationship as they have already been slated as the team to fly the future Apollo 14 mission. It is inferred that these men have previously been through the forming stage as the film does not depict a formal introduction of the team members to each other. The Norming Stage In the norming stage, the Apollo 13 crew is faced with creating cohesion and unity, differentiating roles, identifying expectations and enhancing commitment (Whetten Cameron, 2005). Due to Alan ShepherdВЎВЇs ear infection, however, the crew is bumped up to a mission ahead of schedule, allowing only six months of actual preparation. The training sequences within the film, as well as MattinglyВЎВЇs commitment for accuracy and precision, are clear indicators that the crew is going through the norming stage. When Mattingly is unexpectedly scrubbed from the mission, and Swigert is moved up into his place, the crew is forced to revert back to the forming stage. The crew, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Analysis Of The Book Gulliver s Travels Essay In his book, Gulliver s Travels, it is hard to miss the various references that its author, Johnathan Swift, makes concerning bodily functions. Yet, this is more than the bawdy, juvenile toilet humor one would encounter in a cheeky T.V. show for it has a literary purpose. Scatology is used to define the literary trope of the grotesque body. Through the realist perspective, Swift employs scatology to both shock and attract. He uses it to draw attention to Gulliver s humanity, and normalize the strangeness of the lands Gulliver visits. By successfully employing elements of the scatological to enhance his novel, Swift manages to create a novel that has both realist aesthetic and the fantastical grotesque. As a result of the grotesque simply being an exaggeration of reality, Swift by exaggerating the role of bodily functions highlights makes a private subject public and creates a common thread with his audience. Realism in the context of literature, is defined by the Carson Newman College as any artistic or literary portrayal of life in a faithful, accurate manner, unclouded by false ideals, literary conventions, or misplaced aesthetic glorification and beautification of the world. It is a theory or tendency in writing to depict events in human life in a matter of fact, straightforward manner. It is an attempt to reflect life as it actually is. Assistant coaches get this awful feeling more times than what they should. In all sports at any level, there are always going to be the people who help the head coach. These people are known as the assistants. I find it quite fitting that these individuals are given the title assistant, given the fact that their role is exactly how one would define this word. Webster s Dictionary would define an assistant as a person who gives aid to people. Binge Drinking in Colleges and Universities A recent event that showcases that binge drinking is still a problem for many college students at the University of Iowa is the story of one Iowa student during the 2013 football season. Samantha Goudie, who is a twenty two year old University of Iowa student, was once known as Vodka Samm not only around the Iowa City area but nationally. One day in a highly intoxicated state, she tried to jump onto the field during a regular home football game and after quickly being arrested was known around the nation as The World s Drunkest College Student. She was cited for having a blood alcohol level of .341 percent, which is more than four times the legal driving limit. This event just continued to help solidify the Universityof Iowa s out of control party school reputation. However, it did bring light to the serious problem of the students binge drinkingand its effects especially during home football games. In 2009, to try to reduce the amount of underage and binge drinking, Iowa City passed an ordinance that banned people under the age of twenty one from being in the bars pass 10:00 PM. Since this ordinance was enacted there has been a drop in the number of citations for public intoxication, possession of alcohol for minors, and driving under the influence. There are various differences between micro, mezzo and macro levels of practice. The micro level consists of a one on one session with the social worker to strengthen the client s coping skills and self esteem. The microis based on an individual level referring to the day to day setting inhabited by the person and people they live with. It focuses on the individual or family. Examples include finding housing for the individual, healthcare or substance abuse help. It expands as the person grows. An example would be drawing a diagram with the individual or family being the focus and everything outside of that circle would be affecting the familyor individual in several ways. The focus is on the micro level because it pertains to either the individual or the family. The mezzo level is about the individual s surrounding environment. It pertains to neighborhoods, schools and other entities. It is about providing services for the neighborhood or community. For example, the focus may be on making schools aware of certain mental health services and helping them obtain them. The macro level is the organization, assumptions, myths, and ideologies of the larger world. The universe hosting the smaller systems. Australian Poet Judith Wright exploits her concerns for the environment and human rights within society; these themes are present in Metho Drinker , Remittance Man and Sanctuary . The idea of human nature is exposed through an archetype of addiction, where lack of empathy and compassion is expressed through the microcosm of society. Metho Drinker , being an existential work, depicts Wrights concerns of modern progress and exclusion. Wright exposes the entrapment of both figures with themes of conformity verses individualism, the inevitability of death and man s relationship with nature. Poetic techniques such as omniscient narrative and third person are used to heighten tension between reality and us as the responder. As an audience Remittance Man compels us to reflect upon the English class system of the 1900 s and the lack of human compassion towards migrants and lower classes. This contradicts Sanctuary , which foreshadows the eventual destruction of nature through the progression of society s modern world.
