Child labour refers to work that deprives children of their childhood and education. Poverty is a key driver of child labour, as families may send children to work to increase household income. Over 11 million children in the country work, with the median age being only 7 years old. Strict enforcement of child labour laws by the government and increasing adult employment opportunities are needed to reduce child labour and ensure all children can attend school. Several international organizations and NGOs work to lower rates of child labour worldwide and in Pakistan.
