Millions of children worldwide engage in hazardous forms of child labor such as slavery, prostitution, trafficking, and serving as child soldiers. An estimated 250 million children between ages 5-14 are economically active, with 50-60 million between ages 5-11 engaging in intolerable forms of labor. India has the largest number of child laborers, who endure difficult lives earning little while struggling to feed themselves and their families. Poverty is a main driver of child labor, as it forces parents to send young children into hazardous occupations. While laws prohibiting child labor under age 14 exist, enforcement remains a challenge, and child labor continues to be a global problem requiring increased awareness and solutions.
