An estimated 158 million children aged 5-14 are engaged in child labor worldwide, many in hazardous situations. Poverty is a major driver of child labor, as children from poor households and rural areas are most at risk. UNICEF supports numerous projects to help child laborers, such as providing education in Bangladesh and Africa, protecting children from armed groups, and teaching vulnerable children vocational skills to avoid exploitation. While work remains, UNICEF is working with partners in countries around the world to help end child labor and better protect working children.
