Mass Media Bias And Its Effect On The Media
Having control over an entire country s population s opinion is a powerful thing to have.
Possessing that control would allow you to direct how the population spends their money or even
who they like and dislike in politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are
expected to give us information that is unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The
topic I will be exploring is bias in the mainstream news media and how it effects their viewers. This
is an important topic in the field of communication because it has such a great impact on any
country that uses mass mediato disseminate information. The information can be given to the
viewers with a certain twist to intentionally shape their view of an event, or it can be
unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner they are reporting on the event. I am going to
research how mass media news outlets influence the viewers opinion, and what goes in to
picking the news stories covered. These are controversial topics to get into, but important to
consider. They can have a very big impact on things like elections for a political office, support or
dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion of who is the hero in a certain story. My
sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased towards one opinion, what
the effects are from this are, and who makes the determines the bias that is being displayed.

What Role Do Girl Scouts Play In Ww1
World War One was an unforgettable era. The war stole millions of lives from both sides who
fought. It rattled citizen s faith in their country. People lost brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers.
It was an era that is buried in people s minds and they may never forget it. World War One began
when a Serbian assassinated Archduke Ferdinand of Austria Hungary on June 28th, 1914. Shortly
after the assassination, Austria declared war on Serbia. Several days later Germany had declared
war on Russia and France. As the war progressed other countries started to take sides and
participate in the war. However, the United States hadn t decided to join the war until April 6th,
1917. The U.S remained neutral until Germany started to sink U.S ships that were carrying food
and supplies to Britain. One of the ships they sunk was the Lusitania. They sunk the ship without
giving any warning and killed 128 Americans. A little while later, Germany sunk a French ship that
ended up killing even more Americans. After the second sunken ship Germany and the U.S made a
pact. Germany agreed not to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Children were also a big part in helping during the war. More specifically boy scouts and girl scouts
helped. Girl scouts would help to make basic medical needs for wounded soldiers. Such as,
bandages, swabs, and slings. Boy scouts would help to deliver messages, collect eggs, and some
boy scouts would play all clear signals on bugles after air raids had passed. Some children were
paid to collect conkers, which were used to make explosives. Children would also help to knit
socks and scarves for troops during winter. Sadly, some boys would lie about their age so that
they would be allowed to fight in the war. One of the most famous boy to join was Sidney Lewis.
He was only 12 years old when he joined, fortunately he was sent back home at the age of 13 after
fighting in one of the war s bloodiest battle, the Battle of

Essay on Suffering from Sleep Disorder
He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon
the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of
God . Said by: Aeschylus. To me this simply mean don t do something which you are not
comfortable with. When you do something bad it might not affect you at the beginning but it will
affect you later in your life. For example in the play Shakespeare Macbethhad Banquo murder so
he could become king and he didn t think anything will happen to him cause he had three witches
who told him everything will be okay and he will be king. However that didn t happen after
Banquo was murder Macbeth had started to see Banquo, which he then start to act... Show more

Essay on Junior Class President at County High
A scream echoed through the empty hallways of County High school as we heard the news. How
did that happen? I thought to myself. This had to have been planned out previously by someone.
This event was the Student Government elections held last year, my sophomore year. I had big
plans. I wanted to be the Junior Class president. Being Junior Class president is a big responsibility
due to prom, concessions and other fund raisers, but I wanted the position anyway. I knew I could
handle it. My mom gave me a great idea for a theme that I would carry throughout my posters, my
speech and my clothing attire on Election Day. I researched pictures I could put on posters. I
bought stickers to hand out to people on election day that went along ... Show more content on

It turned out I didn t have it easy, though. Tiffani had a great campaign going and a lot of people
were supporting her. It was fun walking down the freshman/sophomore hallway during
campaign week because our class had posters plastered all over our wall. There wasn t a lot of
wall left to see because of all the posters. Walking down the hallway wasn t only fun,but scary at
the same time. Tiffani s posters were awesome, which made more people back her up. They also
made me jealous because my posters weren t as creative. My posters stuck with my Bee theme
though, which was one trait Tiffani s posters didn t have.
Tiffani and I talked to each other about running against each other. She assured me that nothing
would change if I won, and I told her the same. I knew that if she won, I would be fine with that. I
had already overloaded myself with activities and if I didn t have Student Government to worry
about I would be much better off. Even though she assured me, I still feared that if I won, Tiffani
would be very jealous and resentful towards me. It would also be hard to talk about Student
Government activities with Tiffani if I made it and she didn t.
All these fears and conceited ideas I had, I prayed about. I told God everything. It didn t matter to
me if I won or not, I just wanted to keep Tiffani s friendship. After I prayed, God took that into His

How Plants Grow Research Paper
Plants have many roles to play. Plants make food and oxygen, they provide shelter for animals,
and they make and preserve soil, and provide useful products for humans. Plants are the only
organism that is able to convert light energy from the sun into food. This process is called
photosynthesis. The food that we eat is produced by plants. Humans need oxygento live. This
oxygen comes from plants. Oxygen is produced when plants make food. Animals often use plants
for their shelter and their food source. Plants roots help hold the soil together and also help make
soil. Plants help humans more than just the oxygen they produce. They also produce food, fibers,
medicines, and energy. Animals and humans depend greatly on the roles of plants. (1)... Show more

First off, the temperature needs to be right. If it is too high or too low it will result in abdominal
development. Flowers and vegetables that grow in different seasons, require a different
temperature. Warm season vegetables and flowers grow best in 60o F, 75o F, and 80o F. Cool
season vegetables and flowers grow best in 50o F and 70o F. Plants require large amounts of
sunlight to grow. Indoor light often does not provide enough intensity. During the hot summer
months, plants need at least one half gallon of water each day. If plants do not receive enough
water each day, their roots will dry out and they will die. Just like humans, plants also need oxygen
to survive. They use oxygen for respiration to carry out their functions. Plants absorb minerals
through their roots. They need these minerals to survive. Some of the specific minerals they need is
soil, fertilizer, manure, compost, fertilizer salts. Finally, plants need support. Their basic support is
soil that surrounds their roots. They also have hydroponically supports that include, strings or stakes.

Nuclear Consequences Of Nuclear War
With keeping the above description of nuclear effects in mind, one can see the driving force behind
the concept known as mutually assured destruction, or MAD. As a doctrine, the concept of MAD
revolves around the notion that nuclear exchange, in a world with second strike capability, means
that neither side could emerge the victor; only that each sides would be destroyed by the other.
With MAD, no side has anything to gain by attacking the other as it would likely result in an un
survivable counterattack; concurrently, no side can eliminate its nuclear weaponsbecause it could
then be overpowered by the other. Simply put, if there is no expectation of survival by
counterattack, there is no reason strike period. Over the years, this balance and stability has been
challenged by developments that skew the possibility of post nuclear war survival. Ballistic
missile defense or even conventional weapons that can achieve strategic effects break down the
foundation of MAD by reducing successful strike possibilities; if one side can shoot down some
of the other side s missiles before they become a threat, then the chances are in favor of the side
with that capability. (Bradley, 2015) Further, the concept of MAD seemed to lose the potency of
truth recently. As the United States has reduced focus on its nuclear weapons programs since the
Cold Warended, other states have increased the focus on theirs. The Russian Federation, as well as
the rest of the world, has born witness to the

Who Killed Jonbenet Ramsey Unsolved
The Ramsey family has always been big suspects. The death of JonBenet Ramsey has confused
the world and remains unsolved. JonBenet Ramsey was in beauty pageants and she is named
after her father John Ramsey. JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered on December 26, 1996 at
the age of 6 years old. She is buried by her mother who died in 2006, and her half sister Elizabeth
Ramsey who died in 1992 due to a car crash. Her parents became suspects in 1997. After research
the Ramsey family was said to be not related to the actual murderer. (JonBenet Ramsey Murder
Fast Facts) When they looked at JonBenet thoroughly, they said that she had a fractured skull
possibly from a flashlight. Was possibly assaulted, and strangled by a garrote made from one of
Patsy s paint brushes. (JonBenet Ramsey Biography) To this day no one knows who killed
JonBenet, but there are multiple suspects. The most popular suspects are: the mother, father,
brother, town drifter, electrician, school teacher, and the housekeeper. (Who Killed JonBenet

This reason was because she always got upset and JonBenet when she wetted her bed. Another
reason is because it is said that sometimes Patsy Ramsey would flip a switch in a room, and slam
JonBenet s head against a hard surface. Sometimes including a bathtub or a headboard. Some
investigators also think that Patsy could have killed her daughter because the rope around
JonBenet s neck was made by a homemade garrote determined to have been fashioned out of a
paintbrush taken from Patsy s paint kit that laid near JonBenet when she was found. A very big
possibility is that the letter left on the staircase steps could have been from Patsy after realizing
that she had killed JonBenet. When investigators looked around for possible evidence they found
that the pen that had been used to write the note was from inside the house. (Who Killed JonBenet

Compare And Contrast Platos Republic And Pomas More s Utopia
Plato s republic and Thomas More s Utopia are two old classical philosophical works attempting to
depict the perfect city. MoreВґs utopia is written with a least Plato s Republic in mind as he
intends to write a truer ideal city and with a more pessimistic view of the human nature. Written
1800 years apart there are differences to be found in respective descriptions of the ideal society,
however the similarities say a lot about what philosophers believed to be formative influences of
both the good individual and society.
Platos Republic Kallipolis is Plato s attempt to describe his version of the perfect political society.

Both Plato and More were visionaries of their times and presented ideas of equality and
feminism that would later go on to be the bases of political structures of the future. Today we can
view their attitude regarding the individual over the whole as communistic but to them they
simply saw the need for people to be value based on their abilities rather than birth and for
everyone in a city to work for the greater good of the city in order to create the ideal city. More
intended to write a more realistic ideal society then the one Plato had made up and started his
book with a short poem Plato s Republic now I claim, To match, or beat at its own game (Utopia 8).
Perhaps his work in many ways can be read as a build on to Utopia where More have kept the
ides he agreed with and changed or developed points he didn t care for as much. However this
also means that Plato s work should be treated as the complex original that laid ground for new
political theories. Some greater differences in their visions of Kallipolis and Utopia are in the
perspectives of human relationships, agriculture and property. Even as both hold a communist
view of distribution of produce More have an universal ban of private property while Plato limits
the ban on the ruler and warrior classes. Plato have the farmers own their own land

Using this newly acquired capability for product design, the singapore facility then set about
redesigning other products it produced. HP s corporate managers were so impressed with the
progress made at the factory, they transferred pproduction of the entire calculator line to singapore

keyboard production in 1986. In all cases, the facility redesigned the products and often reduced
unit manufacturing costs by more than 30 percent. The initial development and design of all these

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the singapore plant started to take on added responsibilities,

Reflection Paper On Group Interaction
REFLECTION PAPER
Identified Experience
The group member I identified most with was Andrew in the first program. I identified with
Andrew because he stated he felt like an outsider at times. He felt that it was easier to talk with
men than women. However, in my case, I feel as though it is easier to talk with women than men
in a group. Overall, I feel hesitant to share because most of my group participation has been with
practically strangers. Like the video, I believe it is difficult to talk out loud about personal
issues. Talking out loud about issues that may cause anxiety has been a problem for me
personally for many years. However, after dialoguing with others within groups, I tend to become
more comfortable talking and opening up. In the first program, as the group members began to
talk in the first segment, there was a difference in the ability to relate to each other. I believe the
dyads influenced open up and talking out loud. Working in pairs facilitates member interaction
because talking to one person seems less threatening than addressing the entire group (p. 18). At
the beginning of the sessions the group leaders asked each member to look around the room to
gain a feel of the group members. The purpose of assessing the tone of the room will create an
awareness of everyone in the room. Also, everyone introduced themselves by saying their names.
During the early part of the group interactions, Andrew identified with James as feeling like an
outsider. I believe at this time was the beginning if Andrew doing the work. The group leader
asked Andrew can he relate to anyone else in the group. Nobody knows what it feels like to be
the other person. The only way to express how I feel would be to realize within discussion and
verbalize my feelings. We do not assume that we know what being an outsider means to Andrew
or James, nor do we know what feeling stupid is like for Jacqueline, so we ask all three of them
to note and verbalize when they become aware of these feelings (p. 17). Throughout this session
each members were encouraged to talk out loud to verbalized related issues. I believe the entire
session is a process of doing the work. As I watched the video of the first

THE EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL CAPITALISM
Adam Smith argued that Individuals who were allowed to pursue rationally their own economic
self interest would benefit society as well as themselves (Sherman Salisbury, 2008, p.187). This
argument helped industrial capitalism grow in the 19th and 20th centuries. Industrial capitalism
affected the bourgeoisieand the working class. Although the bourgeoisie gained money and power,
the working class suffered through poor working conditions.
The bourgeoisie, also known as the middle class, gained money and power as the industrial
capitalism got stronger. They consisted of merchants, tradesmen, and professionals. In the middle
class, the men worked outside the home to support their families, while the women stayed at home
to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, the children obtained a mere fraction of that pay. Therefore, factories employed women
and children more often than men. The owners even created contracts with orphanages to hire
cheap child laborers to save money (Sherman Salisbury, 2008, p. 277).
In the 19th century, industrial capitalism began to gain more power in the form of monopolies.
Rockefeller s Standard Oil Trust was one of these monopolies. His company destroyed smaller and
weaker oil companies to become a larger corporation.
On May 15, 1911, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Standard Oil Cartel was a
menace to the Republic and ordered it to be broken up:
For the safety of the Republic we (U.S. Supreme Court) now decree that the dangerous conspiracy
must be ended by Nov. 15, 1911 (John D. A Portrait in Oils, p. 154).
Rockefeller vowed revenge against the U.S. and used his vast fortune to BUY the U.S. government.
The breakup of the Standard Oil monolith resulted in about 37 new companies. Rockefeller still
secretly controlled them all by owning a voting majority of stock in the new corporation. Thus
Standard Oil would be known as Standard Oil New Jersey (Exxon), Standard Oil New York
(Mobil), Standard Oil Indiana (Amoco), Standard Oil California (Chevron), Atlantic Refining
(Arco) etc., etc.
Labor unions started to form in the late 18th century; though it was during the 20th century that
they began to grow. Unions fought for improved

The Tally Stick Essay
Allison O Regan
Prof. Fraustino
Intro. To Poetry
Peer Review Paper #1 The Tally Stick
In the poem The Tally Stick , Jarold Ramsey uses a stick to symbolize the relationship between two
people. Carved notches, arrowheads, and other symbols along the grain of the stick each have their
own special meaning and represent certain events that occurred within these people s lives together.
Though over the time, the stick becomes whittled down and weakened; those carvings are a
testament to the strength and endurance of their relationship. Stanza two of the poem takes time to
reveal what each individual notch or marking on the tally stick represents in their actual lives. The
most intricate carving described represents the day of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The author then says that the lengthening runes of our lives run through it all (19). Runes being
something written in characters, the characters used to describe the personal events within the
relationship surpasses the historical events that occurred. At the end of the poem, the final product
of the tally stick is described. It had been carved all the way from end to end with meaningful
events and occurrences that helped to shape an entire relationship. It is conveyed as being delicate
as scrimshaw (21), scrimshaw being the word for patterns and designs engraved on fragile
materials such as whale bone. The tally stick is now so lessened, that it would not be able to bear
you up (21) or support you were you to lean on it. Though positive experiences were revealed in the
beginning of the poem, such as the children and the wedding, the author also makes it a point to say
that there were also regrets throughout the time he spent with his partner. The wood was
polished...hand over hand with the regret, meaning their hands ran over the wood so often thinking
of mistakes that were made that it was smoothed down. The line and in one another s blameless
eyes go blind (27) shows that throughout time, and throughout all the events that happened, the two
individuals do not hold anything against one another and one person is not more responsible for
anything that happened than the other. The Tally Stick describes all of the events that

Lack Of Women s Rights Of Muslim Women
The rights of women have been debated in communities around the world for centuries. Many
religions have agreed that women deserve to have the basic rights of men, but in the Muslim
world, men are allowed to decide which rights, if any, their sisters, daughters, wives, female
cousins, and even mothers can express. Islamic men should not have this extreme power over
women. Many Muslim feminists, including some men, have tried to stand up to this nonsense and
have been murdered for standing up for the rights the Qur an has given them. The typical Muslim
woman is equal to a Muslim man according to the Qur an (M. Ali and A. Ali Web), but Islamic law

women that are stuck in relationships and marriages they never wanted, want to speak out so
badly for their rights. Any women should have the right to be independent and not be forced to

means they wish. Women should be allowed to mingle with whoever they wish, whenever they
wish. Muslim women deserve the right to be a woman, to speak, to learn, to drive, and to live

Murder should never be allowed or go unpunished. Women s rights are more than just the rights of

Example Of Fibonacci Sequence
1.Introduction
Fibonacci sequence is one of the most famous and perhaps the most interesting number patterns in
mathematics. Far from being just a curiosity, this sequence recurs in structures found throughout
nature from the arrangement of whorls on a pinecone to the branches of certain plant stems. Other
than nature, numerous examples of the Fibonacci sequence as well as its derivative, the Golden
Ratio can be found in art, a stock market, and other areas of society and culture. In the paper, some
of the interesting facts of Fibonacci number are discussed.
1.1.About Fibonacci
Fibonacci, the greatest European mathematician of the middle ages , lived between 1170 and
1250 in Italy. Leonardo Pisano Bogollo was his real name and Fibonacci was his nickname,
which roughly means Son of Bonacci . In 1200 he used the knowledge he had gained on his

Among many problems contained in Leonardo s book Liber Abaci, the most famous was his over
800 years old rabbit population problem which he stated as follows:
This is indeed a celebrated problem in mathematical biology dealing with how many pairs of
baby rabbits will be produced in a year from a single pair of adult rabbits. Consequently, the rabbit

Lorde Research Paper
Everyone has a secret spirit hidden inside of them, which is unknown to the majority of the
people. This spirit is deeply hidden because it can make people be seen as vulnerable but it is
also made up of creativity. Unconsciously this spirit is pushed profoundly inside so that it is
forgotten. However, sometimes it comes out unexpectedly and new discoveries and unknown gifts
are found. These mysterious things is what makes up their inner spirit. Humans can gain power by
obtaining control of their true spirits and expressing them to the world. All humans have power,
you may not see it in some because it is still unseen. This power comes from within and it is
revealed once their true spirits are found. Lorde articulated, Each of us holds... Show more content

For example, Noah Purifoy gained his power through making art out of debris. Purifoy
articulated, Out from the ashes came a message not only of art, but of life, of connecting to one
another, of peace. This indicates that Purifoy had the power to bring serenity and change to a
person by his art. Not physical change but change in a humans attitude and their actions in
general. By turning junk into art, he had the power to communicate with people, bringing
change into their life. Lorde gained her power through poetry, poetry has the power to free
humans from the world and our fears. Lorde expressed, Poetry is the way we help give name to
the nameless so it can be thought. The farthest external horizons of our hopes and fears are
cobbled by our poems, carved from the rock experiences of our daily lives. This specifies that by
releasing all worries and dreams in poetry, humans are able to release all their hidden emotions
that are not show on the outside. If all these emotions are trapped inside them then humans won t
feel tranquility or happiness because it is like they are in a cage. So Lorde believes that poetry
gives people the ability to free themselves from the outside world, which gives people the power
to get in touch with their inner spirits. Jean Michel Basquiat gained his power through his
symbolic art work. His art was mostly made up of his childhood or social problems.

The Modern Plague Of Overpopulation
Unlike plagues of the dark ages or contemporary diseases we do not understand, the modern
plague of overpopulation is soluble by means we have discovered and with resources we
possess. What is lacking is not sufficient knowledge of the solution but universal consciousness
of the gravity of the problem and education of the billions who are its victim. This was said by
Martin Luther King, Jr on May 5, 1966. If this was said almost 49 years ago by one of the greatest
leaders of American history, why hasn t the issue of overpopulationbeen solved yet? Simply
because we lack the universal consciousness of the serious issues overpopulation bring and the
education required on how to prevent it. The world just can t support every single human being if
we continue to ignore the issue. So what would happen globally if the demand for natural
resources is greater than the supply? There will be conflicts and wars, environmental degradation
and climate change. In addition to having a high demand for natural resources and a low supply, it
will also cause a rise in unemployment and raise the cost of living.
There will be many wars and conflicts to come due to fact that there just won t be enough
resources for everybody. Michael Klare, professor of peace and world security studies at
Hampshire College, and the author, most recently, of The Race for What s Left: The Global
Scramble for the World s Last Resources, informs us that there have been a total of six global

Shostakovich Essay
The symphony is a large and complex musical piece that has the potential to express a wide breadth
of experiences and emotions. While the symphony was developed intensely in the eighteenth
century in Vienna, the tradition of symphony has long since spread to other countries, providing the
composers of different nationalities the opportunity to introduce their own colors into the symphony
. Consequently, as different countries develop musical characteristics in the symphony to create
their own symphonic tradition, these symphonies can be seen as an expression of national identity.
Whether voluntarily or involuntarily, the circumstances surrounding the works and the composers
intentions for their work have a profound impact on the relationship between a symphony and the
national identity it expresses. Some symphonic composers, limited by the rules set forth by the
government, were forced to compose symphonies that strongly expressed the identity of a nation.
An example of such a composer is Dmitri Shostakovich. A Russian composer in a time when the
Soviet Union controlled all aspects of life, as well as music, Shostakovich was once criticized for
some of his works for not adhering to the expectations of the government. Shostakovich s opera The
Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk District and his ballet The Limpid Stream were both denounced, which
placed great pressure on Shostakovich because such denunciation could lead to violent
consequences (Taruskin 22). As a result, his Fifth

Compare And Contrast Donald Trump And Bernie Sanders

Miller Bernie Sanders versus Donald Trump Election year is upon the American public once again.
Time for televised debates between politicians clamoring for their party s spot on the presidential
race. Time for billboards and commercials attempting to garner public support and sympathy, and
time for issues facing the American public to be brought to the forefront of the American
consciousness. Amongst the many varied politicians attempting to run for president, two have been
interesting enough to try and compare and contrast between them: Donald Trump and Bernie

So then, what of the Democrat nominee he is being compared against? Bernie Sanders is
currently second behind Hillary Clinton in the polls yet he already has his own passionate
following, with his own agendas and positions on foreign policy, social issues, and the economy.
Bernie s campaign so far has been primarily regarding the economy, and his campaign neatly ties
in the economy of the country with its foreign policy and social issues. The most prominent of
these issues that Sanders rails against is obviously the inequality between the various classes in
America, between the rich and the poor. Sanders still addresses racial violence and LGBT rights
on his main website, as is obvious given the stance of the Democratic party as a whole on these
issues, but class inequality is still the primary issue of his campaign, at least until recently
(BernieSanders). In a debate held in the Democratic town hall of South Carolina, as reported by
Daniel Marans of the Huffington Post, Sanders began to emphasize racial issues in his campaign
in an attempt to appeal to the minority vote similar to Clinton (The Huffington Post). Previously,
it can be assumed that any talk of racial or minority issues would have eventually rounded back
to economic inequality, as the two are often intertwined in practice. This emphasis on the
economy is the singular defining aspect of Sanders s political campaign and everything else
always ends up tying back into this. Sanders s foreign policy has been considered to be quite
sound, by sources such as U.S News, as it ties in the local and political spheres with the economic
ones (Ian Hurd). Sanders weighs the cost of each action, and how it will affect individuals on the
local economic level. Military intervention may serve American interests in the short run, but what

Pope Francis And Its Influence On The Catholic Church

As the world was in the midst of political turmoil, the Catholic Church elected Pope John Paul I
whose reign lasted only thirty three days after he suffered from a heart attack and died. He was
then replaced with Pope John Paul who became the first non Italian since 1522. Pope John Paul
II focused on the youth of the Catholic Church, knowing that they were the faith s future and
thus made that the main focus of his papal reign. Similar to Pope Francis, Pope John Paul II
loved to interact with the members of the Church and both can often be seen photographed
hugging or kissing children and those who are deemed as outcasts in society. Both popes are

Both popes have made it a part of their mission to incorporate the Churches traditions into new

The recruiting aspect is definitely made more efficient through product and proven ways of
marketing, but our process will take things a step further. We will need to make sure that after
we have a recruit, again that this is the person that is going to fall in line with what we are
ultimately trying to get accomplished. We will put jobs in individual categories. What I mean
by this statement is that though we are looking for people who are going to be infantry and
cavalry ready, we also are going to have different roles in the structure of the unit. While we have
some people who are much more hands on and like to learn by doing, we also are going to have
people who will not necessarily be as hands on but can do a good job of leading by thinking
through issues. This is going to be the basic structure of the group, and with this two types of
structures, we will be able to categorize any job in a blanket way to fall into these areas. We will
use the recruiting process overall along with testing and background to encourage the recruits to
take their careers in the direction that not only will be in our best interest, but also in theirs as well.
Operations The operations side of the unit will be ultimate responsible for making sure the overall
business side of things are running efficiently and effectively

the buyer (consumer) has expressly or impliedly known to the seller. Satisfactory quality: The
satisfactory quality is where the sellers sell goods for the good of their business; there is an

Analysis Of The Opening Scene Of Kathryn Bigelow s The...
Technically, the opening scene of Kathryn Bigelow s The Hurt Locker is unnecessary. The story
doesn t really start until Jeremy Renner s Sgt. James first arrives ten minutes later. At that point, his
adrenaline based nature and his relationship with the men in his unit become the paramount focus
of the film. However, for what Bigelow is doing, that opening scene is absolutely essential. For the
viewer, this essentially extended TV teaser slams you into the action. Suddenly, you re on the
battlefield, with the men as they perform their highly dangerous job. It s shot in a handheld style,
making it feel as though you re really there, participating and watching. This allows Bigelow to

The result is that Hawks teaches the audience to observe the men at work; his characters do not
wear their emotions on their sleeves. The audience is forced to watch and understand how a
character is feeling (the small worlds Hawks tended to build helped enormously with this as well).
He structured his films around action sequences, using them to bind characters together and to
push characters to their breaking points. In Rio Bravo, the height of Dean Martin s alcoholism is
when he fails to properly perform his job. But he is able to redeem himself in the next action
sequence and prove that he is still of value, to himself and the audience. Hawks cinematic world is
subtler than most, but ultimately powerful.
While it would be perhaps unwise to argue that Kathryn Bigelow is literally Howard Hawks,
reincarnated and regenerated, the resemblances between his techniques and those used in The Hurt
Locker are striking. Bigelow starts off with the same challenge as any filmmaker get the audience
onboard. The opening scene achieves that by throwing the audience straight in. There s no escape;
the viewer becomes part of the small world of the explosive disposal team. After that, Bigelow (and
Mark Boal) waste no time introducing Jeremy Renner s Sgt. James. The reason for this is clear: at
its heart, this is a film about one man s

Thyroid Pathogenesis Lab Report
Thyroid Disorder27
Pathogenesis: both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can lead to amenorrhea, though most
commonly it present as primary amenorrhea in patients with hypothyroidism. Low levels of thyroid
hormones, T3 and T4, stimulate the hypothalamus to produce thyrotropin releasing hormone
(TRH), which stimulates both thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and prolactin production in the
anterior pituitary. High prolactin levels inhibit GnRH production in the hypothalamus, which is
needed for LH and FSH activation in the anterior pituitary. Without LH and FSH, ovarian follicles
cannot mature and menstruation does not occur.
Diagnosis: patients who present with signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as low energy,
weight gain, cold intolerance, and amenorrhea, should be tested for the disorder with serum
measurements of TSH and free T4. High TSH and low free T4 levels suggest hypothyroidism.
Conversely, measurement of anti thyroid antibodies may also be tested, such as anti thyroglobulin,

The House On Mango Street Summer Assignment
Dillon Afenir Honors Sophomore Comp/Lit 1 September 2016 The House on Mango Street
Summer Assignment 1. Identify an instance where Cisneros uses powerful imagery. Explain the
effect of that imagery upon the reader. Remember that imagery can appeal to any of the senses,
including sight, sound, taste, smell, or touch. Throughout The House on Mango Street, Sandra
Cisneros puts plenty of examples of powerful and meaningful imagery. It helps to contribute to
the overall tone and message the stories are trying to exude. In the vignette A Rice Sandwich

Examples Of Who Is Responsible For The Tragedy Of Macbeth

My Wife Made Me Do It Shakespeare s great play The Tragedy of Macbeth, is thought to be
published in the early 1600 s. It gives detail to the demise of Scotland s great (or not so great)
kings, and leaves every reader with the classic question, Who did it? . Macbeth was clearly driven
by something when making all of his choices. Rather that something was the witches, his wife,
or simply his own ambition, there is a reason for his decisions. Which leads back to the question,
Who is responsible for the tragedy of Macbeth? The first option is that the witches are the cause
of Macbeth s rise and fall. The witches provide the possibility that they are the reason for the
tragedy. The witches are a huge supernatural element of the play, which can promote the theme of
fate. If it was fate that Macbeth was to kill Duncan, and eventually Banquo, then it is true, that all
great Neptune s ocean could not wash this blood clean from [his] hand (2.2.58 59). If this is the

Monster Persuasive Speech
When I say monsters , I don t mean the ones that only come out at night and hide in the darkness, I
m talking about the monsters that reside in our minds. The monsters that we deal with on a daily

huge or minuscule, and how much they affect our lives. The monsters that I deal with are
constantly driving me towards procrastination and anxiety, and I must learn to overcome, or I will

Procrastination, possibly the worst and most destructive monster I have. Procrastination is the

Anxiety is my second biggest monster, partly because it is a huge side effect of procrastination. It
is a constant stress in the back of the mind that only says negative things about the future. A voice
that tells the victim, You won t get that paper done, you re going to fail. A voice that never stops
and tells the victim that they did a good job, because according to anxiety, I can only do wrong.
It is anxiety that limits the victim from doing great things because of the failures along the way,
and the inability to forget the bad, and focus only on the good. The glass is always half empty
for anxiety, which means it is almost impossible for the victim to think positively about the future.
I compare anxiety to Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer s Stone, attached to Professor

Failed Marriages In The United States Essay
Americans do not seem to be interested in a reality check on the topics of love and marriage.
After all, it seems to be more fun to believe in fairy tales (Hornblow). There is a large number of

Smirnov Vodka Empire in The King of Vodka
Although the King of Vodka concerns itself with a different time period and a distant land, the
history of founding and eventual disintegration of the Smirnov Vodka Empire seems resonant in
today s business environment. The famous brand was built in one of the most tumultuous periods
in Russian history, yet the founder had struggled with many of the same business problems we see
today.
In 1831, Pyotr A. Smirnov was born to illiterate Russian serfs in a village so remote that walking at
night required clanking metal sticks together to scare off the wolves hidden in the forest. Smirnov
spent his childhood during one of Russia s worst cholera epidemics. However, vodka was his ticket
out of this peasant life. Settling in Moscow during the reforms that began with emancipation, his
genius grassroots marketing popularized his products and established his brand. His life became
one of privilege. His ascent would have continued uninterrupted had it not been for a series of
devastating labor strikes, social uprisings, and a government imposed vodka monopoly. Ultimately,
the Smirnov lost it all, as victims of the Bolshevik revolution and the chaos it unleashed.
Fortunately for Smirnov, his family was ambitious. The success of uncle Grigoriy who made
enough money to buy his own freedom inspired a young Pyotr to move to Moscow and pursue his
own liberation. It was from Grigoriy that Pyotr was inducted into the world of entrepreneurship.

This essay aims to explain social harm and its connections to social justice. The concept of social

Social justice refers to the distribution of wealth and resources and is a concept which has often

issues have been highlighted that moblisation occurs and social justice becomes linked with social

Essay Understanding Phenomenology
This essay will refer only to the three texts given here:
M.M.P Maurice Merleau Ponty, The Primacy of Perception and Its Philosophical Consequences
E.H Edmund Husserl, Pure Phenomenology, Its Method, and Its Field of Investigation
M.H Martin Heidegger, The Fundamental Discoveries of Phenomenology, Its Principle, and the
Clarification of Its Name
Pure phenomenology takes as given the existence of an intersubjective world(1), ( the totality of
perceptible things and the thing of all things M.M.P), and the existence of perceptual subjects who
perceive the phenomena(2) of the world. (This does not necessarily mean the existence of the self, .

One of the key features of phenomenology as distinct from the sciences (including maths, logic, etc)
is its distinction between phenomena and Objects (Objekte)
All natural Objects... are objects foreign to consciousness. Consciousness does, indeed, objectivate
them and posit them as actual, yet the consciousness that experiences them and takes cognizance of
them is so singularly astonishing that it bestows upon its own phenomena the sense of being
appearances of Objects foreign to consciousness and knows these extrinsic Objects through
processes that take cognizance of their sense. Those objects that are neither conscious processes nor
immanent constituents of conscious processes we therefore call Objects in the pregnant sense of
the word. E.H
If understood correctly, the distinction is that the scientific Object, no longer remembers how it
was originally perceived and since all knowledge must have its genesis in perception, any theory or
truth statement based upon the Object is fundamentally flawed, because it has disregarded the
phenomena from which it was born.
This places two separate sciences in the sharpest of contrasts: on the one hand, phenomenology, the
science of consciousness as it is in itself; on the other, the Objective sciences as a totality. E.H
The importance of phenomenology as distinct from and providing a

Underdogs In The Book Of Daniel
The young underdogs and their victories in the old testament is an interesting topic to think about
in a theological point of view. These so called underdogs went through many trials just as most of
the characters do in the bible. What makes these characters so different is how they started out.
They all started in a way that would make it hard for them to come out on top, thus hints the name
underdogs. The obstacles they had in their way molded the characters. Each individual character
can be seen in different ways and it is not surprising considering the way the biblepresents them.
Take for example Daniels. Daniels qualities are the reasons of his success.
Daniel s experiences and prophecies for the Jewish exiles during his time in the Babylonian
capital, where his service to the king gave him privileged access to the highest levels of society.
His loyal service to the Lord in a land and virtues makes him unique among almost all the people
of Scripture. Daniel is one of the only major figures in the Bible to produce a completely positive
record of his actions.
Daniel was humble and courteous. Courtesy is one the many Daniel qualities. Daniel had indeed

The book of Daniel shows him to be a faithful man of God. Daniel was a man of prayer. As stated
in the book of Daniel, Daniel would pray three time a day to thank God for his love. Daniel s
commitment to God was incredible. Daniel was devoted first and foremost to God and His
commandment on his lifestyle. Daniel unsurmountable faith in God can be seen throughout his
journey. For instance, Daniel showed his faith in God by praying to God even though he knew
that doing so would endanger his life at what time in his journey. Moreover, Daniel s faithfulness
to God even guided him in a lion den, where his enemies were sure he would be devoured. But God
sent shut the lions mouths (Daniel 6:22), and Daniel was miraculously

Arctic Ocean Exchange
Ecosystems in the approximate northern part of our planet are subject to profound changes, such
as amplified rise in air temperature following the rapid loss of millions of square kilometers in
the Arctic sea ice (Lawrence et al., 2008; Serreze and Barry, 2011; Screen et al., 2012; Bhatt et al.,
2014). This sea ice induced warming feedback extends from the marine to the terrestrial domain and
may consequently increase the emission of strenuous greenhouse gasmethane from high latitude
wetland soils (Parmentier, 2013). An increase in terrestrial methane emissions possible therefore
can be accessible to the sea ice changes occurring easily off within the Arctic Ocean, when sea ice
melts and gives way to an unblocked ocean, an immense lowering... Show more content on

During the study there was a distinct negative correlation between the months of methane fluxes
and sea ice extent throughout the Arctic, indicating elevated methane emissions (Parmentier et al.,
2013). However there was a positive correlation that appeared in the Canadian Archipelago, which
indicated a decrease in methane emissions concurrent with sea ice regression. The difference
between regions is most recognizable from August to October, when it is seen there is an increase
in methane emissions. In absolute terms, emissions are the most elevated in midsummer and
much lower start of autumn, which may restrict the effect of sea ice induced warming
(Parmentier et al., 2013). The absolute rise in emissions was governed by extrapolating the
difference in emission trends, the team estimated that emissions were on average 1.7 Tg CH4 yr
1higher in sea ice affected areas (Parmentier et al., 2013). This synergy complicates the explanation
of a correlation with sea ice during springtime when both sea ice regress and previous snowmelt
could cause a temperature related rise

Volunteering at a Nursing Home Essay
Volunteering at a Nursing Home
I ambitiously decided that I would brighten the lives of the elderly by volunteering at a rest home,
but discovered that the elderly were being neglected, shoved aside and forgotten. As I stepped into
the home a pungent odor penetrated my nostrils, causing an instantaneous gagging reflex. The place
was abounded with neglected and subdued inhabitants, yearning for attention. Anybody that passed
them caused a sudden outburst of ranting. The negligence and disregard the home displayed
appalled me, but helped me to realize that I wanted to make a difference and change the condition
people live in.
As I walked down the corridor I noticed a man lying in a hospital bed with only a television, two

Enchanted by her serene radiance, I did not disturb her. Suddenly she began to speak in a
whispered hum that was more like a song, unique in a dwelling full of ranting outbursts. She spoke
of years long past, swimming in the pond with her sister and dancing in the moonlight. I could
picture all in my head, like I was watching a movie. Then she began repeating the story she had
just told me, and I realized that she was merely talking to herself. Although this discovery
disenchanted me at first, I soon realized that, although the woman was talking to herself, she still
had so many fantastic stories stored in her mind. The residents of the home all had some life
flittering in them and numerous stories to share; they just need someone to listen to them. After
my experience at the home I knew that one of my goals in life would always be o help make sure
that people were receiving proper treatment, and not merely stuffed away and drugged up.
Being in the home was like a separate world, one between life and death. When I reached the
outside world again everything seemed so fresh. There were bright yellow green leaves that hung
with an arrogant vivacity, cars that sped by with such fervor, wind blowing with verve and energy,
lively children playing with a vivacious lust for life, and the vitality that exudes from the air into
your lungs. I wanted to bring this energy into

finance the renovation of its stores. In terms of the current recession many investors may be
worried to what effect the current recession will have on Tesco and M S respectively. Another
indication of how efficient the companies are in purchasing and selling goods is the stock

In fact, it was not the behavior change project that changed my thought process but rather my
family member s diagnosis and the timing was perfect for this paper. Over the course of the past
5 weeks or so, I have moved from precontemplation to the preparation stage and will be moving
into the action stage in the coming month. I have implemented some new healthy behavior in
regards to breast cancer prevention and I have plan of action such as talking with my physician.
I will carry out the above screening tools that were mentioned as well as continue to lean on my
family for support. Something that I have learned through this process is that fear can be a
major motivator. Regardless of where it comes from there needs to be some form of motivation.
If my family was perfectly healthy and I felt fine, I would feel like there was no reason for me to
even consider breast cancer prevention. This experience has made me realize that it is important
to consider all aspects of my own health. Just because I feel fine now does not mean that I will be
fine in the future. Exactly as my family member mentioned, prevention is key. Women need to take
the time to support a healthy lifestyle, perform self exams, and get regular mammograms. This is
something that I will hold onto and hopefully be able to implement into my nursing practice and
educate when I

Charles Dickens Mood Of A Christmas Carol
Charles Dickens was the most famous author of the 19th century. His most well known work, A
Christmas Carol has been adapted many times in the last 150 years. Two modern interpretations
include the 1992 The Muppet Christmas Carol and the 2009 A Christmas Carol .
To start off with, Charles Dickens novel does a fine job of setting the tone of the scene because
it displays a dismal, wretched, and ruinous churchyard . This description tells the reader that the
church yard is old and in ruins. Also the novel does a grand job at presenting the tone by saying
in a desperate tone I am not the man I was. This shows the reader that Scrooge wants to change.
Overall the novel does a good job at showing the change in Scrooge.

Police Departments Fix High Crime Rates
Community policing styles in broken window areas has become essential over the past decade.
Broken window areas, are not just a bunch of houses with shattered windows. In criminal justice
terms, an area that has broken windows is an area that has generally lost social control and has
become a dangerous area to live. Many of these broken window areas generally lack social order,
have high crimerates, and crime starts going unpunished and unnoticed. So how do police
departments fix high crime rates in these areas? What styles of policing are most efficient in
deterring crime? Some officers of the law believe that foot patrol policing is the best style of
policing, while others believe that patrol cars are the answer to prevent crime in these areas. Police
departments and officers alike; have come up with multiple strategies to deter and prevent crime,
and with a new era of technology, police departments have new resources and strategies at there
disposal.
The problem with broken windows and crime rates need to be addressed, simply because of the
nature of broken window areas. . Imagine living in an area that is run down and has no social
order? Imagine the fear one person has when walking home to his/her house after a long day of
work. Generally speaking, most people do not want to live or work in an area where they cannot
feel safe, due to an abundance of crime and lack of social order. Broken Window areas are also bad
income areas, and if not properly attended or fixed,

Introduction.
Musical notes are a language that has evolved over thousands of years and the notation that we
know today, there are more than 300 years. Music notation is a representation of sound by
symbols of a simple notation for pitch, length and timing to more advanced features of expression,
timbre, and even special effects. This book will show you the basics of reading music, some more
advanced methods and how you can learn more about the subject.
This guide focuses on musical notations and symbols found on sheet music; note counts,
accidentals, time signatures, key signatures, breaks, codas, ornaments, and articulations, to mention
a few. This guide will also include pictures and simplified definitions to make it easier for you to
understand.
Modern musical notation was derived from European Classical music and is still used by musicians
around the world.
In the middle of the 19th century, it was said that the monasteries in Europe began developing
notations for Gregorian chant using neumes* or the earliest musical notation. The roots of modern
musical notation symbols are originally from the Roman Catholic Church.
Neumes These were the earliest form of musical notation, used during the middle ages by
Christians, which are still being used for Gregorian chants and plainsongs (or plainchants)
nowadays.

Carbohydrates Research Paper
Bradie Anderson Carbohydrates are the main energy source. Without carbs, the body could not

Negative Connotation Of Control
Control is a negative term that is thrown around too often in today s society. Everyone needs the
right amount of self control, but it s unhealthy to control the way others live. Control can be
described through many different situations. We see an excessive amount of control when it comes
to interacting with others. Controlis factored into many family problems such as domestic violence
and divorce complications, which allows us to understand the negative connotation of control.
Domestic violence is becoming prominent in interpersonal relationships. Many celebrities have
shared their experiences with the public describing their controlling relationships. Tina Turner
spoke with Oprah regarding her abusive husband in 2005 (Scott). Turner explained the abuse she
received from her husband by sharing, He liked to show the public that he was in control and
that he was a woman hater. He also liked for his women to get up and walk across the floor for
display so that other men could see what he had. I didn t know how to get out of the whole
situation. There were many times when I picked up the gun when he was sleeping (Scott).
Turner lived her life feeling like she was owned by her husband because he restricted what she
could do and say. She felt as if the only way to escape the abuse was to end his life, but she pulled
through and now shares her experiences to help stop this nuisance. Mariah Carey also spoke out

  • 2. Mass Media Bias And Its Effect On The Media Having control over an entire country s population s opinion is a powerful thing to have. Possessing that control would allow you to direct how the population spends their money or even who they like and dislike in politics. The mainstream media news outlets have this control and are expected to give us information that is unbiased, fair, and not meant to sway our opinion. The topic I will be exploring is bias in the mainstream news media and how it effects their viewers. This is an important topic in the field of communication because it has such a great impact on any country that uses mass mediato disseminate information. The information can be given to the viewers with a certain twist to intentionally shape their view of an event, or it can be unintentionally bias just by the tone and manner they are reporting on the event. I am going to research how mass media news outlets influence the viewers opinion, and what goes in to picking the news stories covered. These are controversial topics to get into, but important to consider. They can have a very big impact on things like elections for a political office, support or dislike of a certain group, or can sway your opinion of who is the hero in a certain story. My sources will need to show specific examples of how the media is biased towards one opinion, what the effects are from this are, and who makes the determines the bias that is being displayed. • 3. What Role Do Girl Scouts Play In Ww1 World War One was an unforgettable era. The war stole millions of lives from both sides who fought. It rattled citizen s faith in their country. People lost brothers, sisters, fathers and mothers. It was an era that is buried in people s minds and they may never forget it. World War One began when a Serbian assassinated Archduke Ferdinand of Austria Hungary on June 28th, 1914. Shortly after the assassination, Austria declared war on Serbia. Several days later Germany had declared war on Russia and France. As the war progressed other countries started to take sides and participate in the war. However, the United States hadn t decided to join the war until April 6th, 1917. The U.S remained neutral until Germany started to sink U.S ships that were carrying food and supplies to Britain. One of the ships they sunk was the Lusitania. They sunk the ship without giving any warning and killed 128 Americans. A little while later, Germany sunk a French ship that ended up killing even more Americans. After the second sunken ship Germany and the U.S made a pact. Germany agreed not to... Girl scouts would help to make basic medical needs for wounded soldiers. Such as, bandages, swabs, and slings. Boy scouts would help to deliver messages, collect eggs, and some boy scouts would play all clear signals on bugles after air raids had passed. Some children were paid to collect conkers, which were used to make explosives. Children would also help to knit socks and scarves for troops during winter. Sadly, some boys would lie about their age so that they would be allowed to fight in the war. One of the most famous boy to join was Sidney Lewis. He was only 12 years old when he joined, fortunately he was sent back home at the age of 13 after fighting in one of the war s bloodiest battle, the Battle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God . Said by: Aeschylus. To me this simply mean don t do something which you are not comfortable with. When you do something bad it might not affect you at the beginning but it will affect you later in your life. For example in the play Shakespeare Macbethhad Banquo murder so he could become king and he didn t think anything will happen to him cause he had three witches who told him everything will be okay and he will be king. However that didn t happen after Banquo was murder Macbeth had started to see Banquo, which he then start to act... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 5. Essay on Junior Class President at County High A scream echoed through the empty hallways of County High school as we heard the news. How did that happen? I thought to myself. This had to have been planned out previously by someone. This event was the Student Government elections held last year, my sophomore year. I had big plans. I wanted to be the Junior Class president. Being Junior Class president is a big responsibility due to prom, concessions and other fund raisers, but I wanted the position anyway. I knew I could handle it. My mom gave me a great idea for a theme that I would carry throughout my posters, my speech and my clothing attire on Election Day. I researched pictures I could put on posters. I bought stickers to hand out to people on election day that went along ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It turned out I didn t have it easy, though. Tiffani had a great campaign going and a lot of people were supporting her. It was fun walking down the freshman/sophomore hallway during campaign week because our class had posters plastered all over our wall. There wasn t a lot of wall left to see because of all the posters. Walking down the hallway wasn t only fun,but scary at the same time. Tiffani s posters were awesome, which made more people back her up. They also made me jealous because my posters weren t as creative. My posters stuck with my Bee theme though, which was one trait Tiffani s posters didn t have. Tiffani and I talked to each other about running against each other. She assured me that nothing would change if I won, and I told her the same. I knew that if she won, I would be fine with that. I had already overloaded myself with activities and if I didn t have Student Government to worry about I would be much better off. Even though she assured me, I still feared that if I won, Tiffani would be very jealous and resentful towards me. It would also be hard to talk about Student Government activities with Tiffani if I made it and she didn t. All these fears and conceited ideas I had, I prayed about. I told God everything. It didn t matter to me if I won or not, I just wanted to keep Tiffani s friendship. After I prayed, God took that into His ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. How Plants Grow Research Paper Plants have many roles to play. Plants make food and oxygen, they provide shelter for animals, and they make and preserve soil, and provide useful products for humans. Plants are the only organism that is able to convert light energy from the sun into food. This process is called photosynthesis. The food that we eat is produced by plants. Humans need oxygento live. This oxygen comes from plants. Oxygen is produced when plants make food. Animals often use plants for their shelter and their food source. Plants roots help hold the soil together and also help make soil. Plants help humans more than just the oxygen they produce. They also produce food, fibers, medicines, and energy. Animals and humans depend greatly on the roles of plants. (1)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... First off, the temperature needs to be right. If it is too high or too low it will result in abdominal development. Flowers and vegetables that grow in different seasons, require a different temperature. Warm season vegetables and flowers grow best in 60o F, 75o F, and 80o F. Cool season vegetables and flowers grow best in 50o F and 70o F. Plants require large amounts of sunlight to grow. Indoor light often does not provide enough intensity. During the hot summer months, plants need at least one half gallon of water each day. If plants do not receive enough water each day, their roots will dry out and they will die. Just like humans, plants also need oxygen to survive. They use oxygen for respiration to carry out their functions. Plants absorb minerals through their roots. They need these minerals to survive. Some of the specific minerals they need is soil, fertilizer, manure, compost, fertilizer salts. Finally, plants need support. Their basic support is soil that surrounds their roots. They also have hydroponically supports that include, strings or stakes. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Nuclear Consequences Of Nuclear War With keeping the above description of nuclear effects in mind, one can see the driving force behind the concept known as mutually assured destruction, or MAD. As a doctrine, the concept of MAD revolves around the notion that nuclear exchange, in a world with second strike capability, means that neither side could emerge the victor; only that each sides would be destroyed by the other. With MAD, no side has anything to gain by attacking the other as it would likely result in an un survivable counterattack; concurrently, no side can eliminate its nuclear weaponsbecause it could then be overpowered by the other. Simply put, if there is no expectation of survival by counterattack, there is no reason strike period. Over the years, this balance and stability has been challenged by developments that skew the possibility of post nuclear war survival. Ballistic missile defense or even conventional weapons that can achieve strategic effects break down the foundation of MAD by reducing successful strike possibilities; if one side can shoot down some of the other side s missiles before they become a threat, then the chances are in favor of the side with that capability. (Bradley, 2015) Further, the concept of MAD seemed to lose the potency of truth recently. As the United States has reduced focus on its nuclear weapons programs since the Cold Warended, other states have increased the focus on theirs. The Russian Federation, as well as the rest of the world, has born witness to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Who Killed Jonbenet Ramsey Unsolved The Ramsey family has always been big suspects. The death of JonBenet Ramsey has confused the world and remains unsolved. JonBenet Ramsey was in beauty pageants and she is named after her father John Ramsey. JonBenet Ramsey was found murdered on December 26, 1996 at the age of 6 years old. She is buried by her mother who died in 2006, and her half sister Elizabeth Ramsey who died in 1992 due to a car crash. Her parents became suspects in 1997. After research the Ramsey family was said to be not related to the actual murderer. (JonBenet Ramsey Murder Fast Facts) When they looked at JonBenet thoroughly, they said that she had a fractured skull possibly from a flashlight. Was possibly assaulted, and strangled by a garrote made from one of Patsy s paint brushes. (JonBenet Ramsey Biography) To this day no one knows who killed JonBenet, but there are multiple suspects. The most popular suspects are: the mother, father, brother, town drifter, electrician, school teacher, and the housekeeper. (Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? 8 Possible Suspects)... Another reason is because it is said that sometimes Patsy Ramsey would flip a switch in a room, and slam JonBenet s head against a hard surface. Sometimes including a bathtub or a headboard. Some investigators also think that Patsy could have killed her daughter because the rope around JonBenet s neck was made by a homemade garrote determined to have been fashioned out of a paintbrush taken from Patsy s paint kit that laid near JonBenet when she was found. A very big possibility is that the letter left on the staircase steps could have been from Patsy after realizing that she had killed JonBenet. When investigators looked around for possible evidence they found that the pen that had been used to write the note was from inside the house. (Who Killed JonBenet Ramsey? 8 Possible ... • 9. Compare And Contrast Platos Republic And Pomas More s Utopia Plato s republic and Thomas More s Utopia are two old classical philosophical works attempting to depict the perfect city. MoreВґs utopia is written with a least Plato s Republic in mind as he intends to write a truer ideal city and with a more pessimistic view of the human nature. Written 1800 years apart there are differences to be found in respective descriptions of the ideal society, however the similarities say a lot about what philosophers believed to be formative influences of both the good individual and society. Both Plato and More were visionaries of their times and presented ideas of equality and feminism that would later go on to be the bases of political structures of the future. Today we can view their attitude regarding the individual over the whole as communistic but to them they simply saw the need for people to be value based on their abilities rather than birth and for everyone in a city to work for the greater good of the city in order to create the ideal city. More intended to write a more realistic ideal society then the one Plato had made up and started his book with a short poem Plato s Republic now I claim, To match, or beat at its own game (Utopia 8). Perhaps his work in many ways can be read as a build on to Utopia where More have kept the ides he agreed with and changed or developed points he didn t care for as much. However this also means that Plato s work should be treated as the complex original that laid ground for new political theories. Some greater differences in their visions of Kallipolis and Utopia are in the perspectives of human relationships, agriculture and property. Even as both hold a communist view of distribution of produce More have an universal ban of private property while Plato limits the ban on the ruler and warrior classes. • 11. Reflection Paper On Group Interaction REFLECTION PAPER Identified Experience The group member I identified most with was Andrew in the first program. I identified with Andrew because he stated he felt like an outsider at times. He felt that it was easier to talk with men than women. However, in my case, I feel as though it is easier to talk with women than men in a group. Overall, I feel hesitant to share because most of my group participation has been with practically strangers. Like the video, I believe it is difficult to talk out loud about personal issues. Talking out loud about issues that may cause anxiety has been a problem for me personally for many years. However, after dialoguing with others within groups, I tend to become more comfortable talking and opening up. In the first program, as the group members began to talk in the first segment, there was a difference in the ability to relate to each other. I believe the dyads influenced open up and talking out loud. Working in pairs facilitates member interaction because talking to one person seems less threatening than addressing the entire group (p. 18). At the beginning of the sessions the group leaders asked each member to look around the room to gain a feel of the group members. The purpose of assessing the tone of the room will create an awareness of everyone in the room. Also, everyone introduced themselves by saying their names. During the early part of the group interactions, Andrew identified with James as feeling like an outsider. I believe at this time was the beginning if Andrew doing the work. The group leader asked Andrew can he relate to anyone else in the group. Nobody knows what it feels like to be the other person. The only way to express how I feel would be to realize within discussion and verbalize my feelings. We do not assume that we know what being an outsider means to Andrew or James, nor do we know what feeling stupid is like for Jacqueline, so we ask all three of them to note and verbalize when they become aware of these feelings (p. 17). Throughout this session each members were encouraged to talk out loud to verbalized related issues. I believe the entire session is a process of doing the work. THE EFFECTS OF INDUSTRIAL CAPITALISM Adam Smith argued that Individuals who were allowed to pursue rationally their own economic self interest would benefit society as well as themselves (Sherman Salisbury, 2008, p.187). This argument helped industrial capitalism grow in the 19th and 20th centuries. Industrial capitalism affected the bourgeoisieand the working class. Although the bourgeoisie gained money and power, the working class suffered through poor working conditions. The owners even created contracts with orphanages to hire cheap child laborers to save money (Sherman Salisbury, 2008, p. 277). In the 19th century, industrial capitalism began to gain more power in the form of monopolies. Rockefeller s Standard Oil Trust was one of these monopolies. His company destroyed smaller and weaker oil companies to become a larger corporation. On May 15, 1911, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that the Standard Oil Cartel was a menace to the Republic and ordered it to be broken up: For the safety of the Republic we (U.S. Supreme Court) now decree that the dangerous conspiracy must be ended by Nov. 15, 1911 (John D. The breakup of the Standard Oil monolith resulted in about 37 new companies. Rockefeller still secretly controlled them all by owning a voting majority of stock in the new corporation. Though over the time, the stick becomes whittled down and weakened; those carvings are a testament to the strength and endurance of their relationship. At the end of the poem, the final product of the tally stick is described. It had been carved all the way from end to end with meaningful events and occurrences that helped to shape an entire relationship. It is conveyed as being delicate as scrimshaw (21), scrimshaw being the word for patterns and designs engraved on fragile materials such as whale bone. The tally stick is now so lessened, that it would not be able to bear you up (21) or support you were you to lean on it. Though positive experiences were revealed in the beginning of the poem, such as the children and the wedding, the author also makes it a point to say that there were also regrets throughout the time he spent with his partner. The wood was polished...hand over hand with the regret, meaning their hands ran over the wood so often thinking of mistakes that were made that it was smoothed down. The line and in one another s blameless eyes go blind (27) shows that throughout time, and throughout all the events that happened, the two individuals do not hold anything against one another and one person is not more responsible for anything that happened than the other. The Modern Plague Of Overpopulation Unlike plagues of the dark ages or contemporary diseases we do not understand, the modern plague of overpopulation is soluble by means we have discovered and with resources we possess. What is lacking is not sufficient knowledge of the solution but universal consciousness of the gravity of the problem and education of the billions who are its victim. This was said by Martin Luther King, Jr on May 5, 1966. If this was said almost 49 years ago by one of the greatest leaders of American history, why hasn t the issue of overpopulationbeen solved yet? Simply because we lack the universal consciousness of the serious issues overpopulation bring and the education required on how to prevent it. The world just can t support every single human being if we continue to ignore the issue. So what would happen globally if the demand for natural resources is greater than the supply? There will be conflicts and wars, environmental degradation and climate change. In addition to having a high demand for natural resources and a low supply, it will also cause a rise in unemployment and raise the cost of living. • 21. Shostakovich Essay The symphony is a large and complex musical piece that has the potential to express a wide breadth of experiences and emotions. While the symphony was developed intensely in the eighteenth century in Vienna, the tradition of symphony has long since spread to other countries, providing the composers of different nationalities the opportunity to introduce their own colors into the symphony . Consequently, as different countries develop musical characteristics in the symphony to create their own symphonic tradition, these symphonies can be seen as an expression of national identity. Whether voluntarily or involuntarily, the circumstances surrounding the works and the composers intentions for their work have a profound impact on the relationship between a symphony and the national identity it expresses. Some symphonic composers, limited by the rules set forth by the government, were forced to compose symphonies that strongly expressed the identity of a nation. An example of such a composer is Dmitri Shostakovich. A Russian composer in a time when the Soviet Union controlled all aspects of life, as well as music, Shostakovich was once criticized for some of his works for not adhering to the expectations of the government. Bernie Sanders is currently second behind Hillary Clinton in the polls yet he already has his own passionate following, with his own agendas and positions on foreign policy, social issues, and the economy. Bernie s campaign so far has been primarily regarding the economy, and his campaign neatly ties in the economy of the country with its foreign policy and social issues. The most prominent of these issues that Sanders rails against is obviously the inequality between the various classes in America, between the rich and the poor. Sanders still addresses racial violence and LGBT rights on his main website, as is obvious given the stance of the Democratic party as a whole on these issues, but class inequality is still the primary issue of his campaign, at least until recently (BernieSanders). In a debate held in the Democratic town hall of South Carolina, as reported by Daniel Marans of the Huffington Post, Sanders began to emphasize racial issues in his campaign in an attempt to appeal to the minority vote similar to Clinton (The Huffington Post). Previously, it can be assumed that any talk of racial or minority issues would have eventually rounded back to economic inequality, as the two are often intertwined in practice. This emphasis on the economy is the singular defining aspect of Sanders s political campaign and everything else always ends up tying back into this. Sanders s foreign policy has been considered to be quite sound, by sources such as U.S News, as it ties in the local and political spheres with the economic ones (Ian Hurd). • 29. Analysis Of The Opening Scene Of Kathryn Bigelow s The... Technically, the opening scene of Kathryn Bigelow s The Hurt Locker is unnecessary. The story doesn t really start until Jeremy Renner s Sgt. James first arrives ten minutes later. At that point, his adrenaline based nature and his relationship with the men in his unit become the paramount focus of the film. However, for what Bigelow is doing, that opening scene is absolutely essential. For the viewer, this essentially extended TV teaser slams you into the action. Suddenly, you re on the battlefield, with the men as they perform their highly dangerous job. It s shot in a handheld style, making it feel as though you re really there, participating and watching. This allows Bigelow to quickly establish the rapport these men have, and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The result is that Hawks teaches the audience to observe the men at work; his characters do not wear their emotions on their sleeves. The audience is forced to watch and understand how a character is feeling (the small worlds Hawks tended to build helped enormously with this as well). He structured his films around action sequences, using them to bind characters together and to push characters to their breaking points. In Rio Bravo, the height of Dean Martin s alcoholism is when he fails to properly perform his job. But he is able to redeem himself in the next action sequence and prove that he is still of value, to himself and the audience. Hawks cinematic world is subtler than most, but ultimately powerful. While it would be perhaps unwise to argue that Kathryn Bigelow is literally Howard Hawks, reincarnated and regenerated, the resemblances between his techniques and those used in The Hurt Locker are striking. Bigelow starts off with the same challenge as any filmmaker get the audience onboard. The opening scene achieves that by throwing the audience straight in. There s no escape; the viewer becomes part of the small world of the explosive disposal team. After that, Bigelow (and Mark Boal) waste no time introducing Jeremy Renner s Sgt. James. The reason for this is clear: at its heart, this is a film about one man s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Thyroid Pathogenesis Lab Report Thyroid Disorder27 Pathogenesis: both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can lead to amenorrhea, though most commonly it present as primary amenorrhea in patients with hypothyroidism. Low levels of thyroid hormones, T3 and T4, stimulate the hypothalamus to produce thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH), which stimulates both thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and prolactin production in the anterior pituitary. High prolactin levels inhibit GnRH production in the hypothalamus, which is needed for LH and FSH activation in the anterior pituitary. Without LH and FSH, ovarian follicles cannot mature and menstruation does not occur. Diagnosis: patients who present with signs and symptoms of hypothyroidism, such as low energy, weight gain, cold intolerance, and amenorrhea, should be tested for the disorder with serum measurements of TSH and free T4. High TSH and low free T4 levels suggest hypothyroidism. Conversely, measurement of anti thyroid antibodies may also be tested, such as anti thyroglobulin, anti thyroid peroxidase, and anti TSH receptor. Identify an instance where Cisneros uses powerful imagery. Explain the effect of that imagery upon the reader. Remember that imagery can appeal to any of the senses, including sight, sound, taste, smell, or touch. Throughout The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros puts plenty of examples of powerful and meaningful imagery. It helps to contribute to the overall tone and message the stories are trying to exude. In the vignette A Rice Sandwich Esperanza is sent to the headmaster s office after trying to get into a lunch line that she wasn t usually in, even when she had a letter from her mom that she was supposed to be there. The headmaster eventually becomes aware of where she lives: a rundown, raggedy house in an even worse neighborhood. The headmaster allows Esperanza to return to the canteen and began to eat. However, she is not welcomed by the other kids and is watched by lots of boys and girls... while [Esperanza] cried and ate [her] sandwich, the bread greasy and the rice cold (45). What Cisneros says really targets the visual and auditory senses. When I have read this vignette, I could visualize her looking out the window of the headmaster s office, having point out her house, and then only to return to the canteen humiliated just to be looked upon as an unusual creature. What I also picked up on is the tears and the worst looking sandwich anyone in the canteen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Examples Of Who Is Responsible For The Tragedy Of Macbeth Paige Davis Mrs. Walker English IV 15 February 2017 My Wife Made Me Do It Shakespeare s great play The Tragedy of Macbeth, is thought to be published in the early 1600 s. It gives detail to the demise of Scotland s great (or not so great) kings, and leaves every reader with the classic question, Who did it? . Macbeth was clearly driven by something when making all of his choices. Rather that something was the witches, his wife, or simply his own ambition, there is a reason for his decisions. Which leads back to the question, Who is responsible for the tragedy of Macbeth? The first option is that the witches are the cause of Macbeth s rise and fall. The witches provide the possibility that they are the reason for the tragedy. The witches are a huge supernatural element of the play, which can promote the theme of fate. If it was fate that Macbeth was to kill Duncan, and eventually Banquo, then it is true, that all great Neptune s ocean could not wash this blood clean from [his] hand (2.2.58 59). Social justice refers to the distribution of wealth and resources and is a concept which has often lead to mobilisation. One of the key features of phenomenology as distinct from the sciences (including maths, logic, etc) is its distinction between phenomena and Objects (Objekte) All natural Objects... are objects foreign to consciousness. Consciousness does, indeed, objectivate them and posit them as actual, yet the consciousness that experiences them and takes cognizance of them is so singularly astonishing that it bestows upon its own phenomena the sense of being appearances of Objects foreign to consciousness and knows these extrinsic Objects through processes that take cognizance of their sense. Those objects that are neither conscious processes nor immanent constituents of conscious processes we therefore call Objects in the pregnant sense of the word. E.H If understood correctly, the distinction is that the scientific Object, no longer remembers how it was originally perceived and since all knowledge must have its genesis in perception, any theory or truth statement based upon the Object is fundamentally flawed, because it has disregarded the phenomena from which it was born. This places two separate sciences in the sharpest of contrasts: on the one hand, phenomenology, the science of consciousness as it is in itself; on the other, the Objective sciences as a totality. These so called underdogs went through many trials just as most of the characters do in the bible. What makes these characters so different is how they started out. They all started in a way that would make it hard for them to come out on top, thus hints the name underdogs. The obstacles they had in their way molded the characters. Daniels qualities are the reasons of his success. This experience has made me realize that it is important to consider all aspects of my own health. Just because I feel fine now does not mean that I will be fine in the future. Exactly as my family member mentioned, prevention is key. Women need to take the time to support a healthy lifestyle, perform self exams, and get regular mammograms. This is something that I will hold onto and hopefully be able to implement into my nursing practice and educate when I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 51. Carbohydrates Research Paper Bradie Anderson Carbohydrates are the main energy source. Without carbs, the body could not function in the ways that they should. Sources of carbs include fruits, breads and grains, vegetables and sugars. You should try and make at least half of the grains you consume whole grains. Whole grains and fruit are full of fiber, which reduces the risk of heart disease and helps keep normal blood glucose levels. Protein is responsible for the building and repair of body tissues. Protein is broken down into amino acids, which are used as building blocks of protein. Nine of the 20 amino acids, essential amino acids, must be put into your diet because they cant blend in the body. Ten to 35 percent of your daily calories should come from protein sources such as meat, dairy, beans or eggs. Abstract: The report presents determination of equilibrium constant for the formation of a complex ion FeSCN2+. This was accomplished using a colorimeter to measure absorbance of some known concentration solutions in order to generate the calibration curve. The equation of the graph was used to compute the equilibrium concentrations of the reactants and products, needed to calculate the equilibrium constant for the reaction. I. Introduction: The purpose of the experiment is to determine the equilibrium constant for the formation of a complex ion iron (III) thiocyanate (FeSCN2+). This ion is formed in the reaction of iron (III) ion with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The initial molar concentrations of Fe2+ and SCN ions in all four solutions were calculated.
