Characteristics of computer
Computer is used so much today
Time of computer
Everybody used computer because of its
characteristics
Due to which computer is useful and helpful
Speed
Speed of computer maybe defined as the time taken
by a computer to perform a task
It takes only a few seconds for the calculations that
we take hours to solve
It works in the fraction of second. Most of the
computers work on Micro and Nano second.
Its speed is measured in term of MHZ (Mega Hertz)
and GHZ (Giga Hertz).
Units of Speed
Millisecond (ms) One-thousandth (1/1,000)
Microsecond One-millionth (1/1,000,000)
Nanosecond (ns) One-billionth (1/1,000,000,000)
Picosecond (ps) One-trillionth (1/1,000,000,000,000)
Accuracy
The condition or quality of being true, correct, or exact;
freedom from error or defect; precision or exactness;
correctness.
The computers are the accurate machine that can perform
large number of tasks without errors but if we feed wrong
data to the computer it returns the same wrong
information called GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out). The
errors in the computer are due to human and inaccurate
data.
The degree of accuracy in a computer is very high and
every calculation is performed with same accuracy.
Diligence (Tiredness)
The capacity of computer of performing repetitive
task without getting tired is called diligence.
A computer is free from tiredness, lack of
concentration, monotony, fatigue etc. therefore it can
work for hours without creating any errors
Even if millions of calculations are to be performed,
computer will perform every calculation with same
accuracy.
Versatility (Multiple jobs)
The capacity of computer of performing more than
one task at the same time is called versatility of
computer.
Versatility means the capacity to perform different
types of work completely.
One moment a computer is preparing the results of
particular examination, next moment it is preparing
electricity bills
Power of Remembering (Storage)
The action or method of storing something for future use.
Human being relegates unimportant details to back of mind
and forgets them
Computer can store and recall any amount of information
because of its secondary storage capability
After several years information recalled will be as accurate
as on the day when it is fed to the computer
Forgets or looses when it is asked to do so (delete)
The storage capacity of computer is measured in terms of Kilobyte
(KB), Megabyte (MB), Gigabyte (GB), and Terabyte (TB).
No Feelings
Feeling is an emotional state or reaction.
Computers have no feelings or emotions.
It cannot make judgment based on feeling, taste,
experience, and knowledge unlike humans.
I.Q (Intelligence Quotient)
The ability to comprehend or understand.
The instructions are performed at tremendous speed and
with accuracy.
A computer is a machine that has no intelligence to
perform any task.
Each instruction has to be given to the computer.
A computer cannot take any decision on its own.
Programmer are trying to make it an intelligent machine
and introducing Artificial Intelligence in computers
Games like chess were made for this purpose
We play with computer it defeats us
How it is possible for a machine without mind and
thinking
Made possible by programmers
Robots are made for different tasks
Software are made due to which Machine talk with us ,
Answers our question very well
Today s computer has some I.Q
