It discusses international crime trends, sources of crime statistics, and sociological theories of crime including strain theory, subcultural theories, control theory, conflict perspective, and labeling theory. It also covers different types of crimes such as index offenses, violent crimes like homicide, assault, rape and robbery, and property crimes. Crime rates and clearance rates for index offenses in the US in 2009 are presented in a table.
