The document discusses various tax credits available to taxpayers, including:
1) The child tax credit of up to $1,000 per child under 17, which phases out for higher incomes and has a complex calculation for 3+ kids.
2) The earned income credit, a refundable credit available to low and moderate income working individuals and families.
3) The child and dependent care credit, which gives a tax benefit to working parents for childcare expenses based on income and qualifying costs.
4) Education credits like the American Opportunity credit and Lifetime Learning credit that provide tax relief for qualified education expenses.

Congressional Briefing, “Ladders to Success: Center-Based Strategies for Moving Working Families into the Middle Class” (December 4, 2012), presented by United Way of the Bay Area, The Annie E. Casey Foundation, Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), MDC and United Way Worldwide.
From code to product to startup: challenges for building successful business ...OW2
We have mainly two categories of products in the world of open source products, the one targeting the B2C segment and the other targeting B2B.
In one side, we have open source B2B startups facing challenges to build successful and sustainable business models to leverage their open source positioning and to convince enterprises and partners to engage with their products; and, on the other side, we have open source startups with successful B2C products who are facing challenges to convince their large communities to accept even the idea of monetization.
When the open source startup with a B2B model main challenge is clearly to execute as a software company, the open source startup with a popular B2C product has to deal with a more complex challenge.
I will base the presentation on two open source startups I’m currently advising. One is a promising startup with an open source platform for building web and mobile application, and the other is a behind a well-known open source product used by million of users around the word.
Software is eating the world and open source licenses are eating software. This leads to the presence of OSS in nearly all the electronic systems we interact with daily, such as communication devices, cars, trains, healthcare systems, entertainment environments. This entails that the quality of the OSS components we use and produce is getting progressively as important as the quality of the air we breathe. One of the OW2 key missions is to continously design and implement a roadmap for enabling quality and trustworhy open source software, through a dedicated platform named SQuAT. This talk will present the status and the future of this platform, its underlying models and tools, and how you can use it for assessing and improving the quality of your project.
Participating in AppHub, the European Open Source MarketplaceOW2
AppHub is the European Open Source marketplace. AppHub identifies and positions software components within the Open Cloud Directory to help users find and implement the software outcomes of your projects more easily. Open source software is a powerful enabler for collaborative innovation. However, making the source available does not automatically attract contributors or grant immediate market access. AppHub is designed to provide an distribution channel that addresses these issues, making it easier for open source projects to connect with their potential markets. Essentially, AppHub brings the market to you. This presentation will provide an overview of AppHub and help OW2 project leaders understand how they can participate in, and benefit from, the AppHub marketplace.

Big data and mass analytical processing have gained a prime position over the past years in business and have touched almost all domains of society. According to the famous Gartner “3Vs” definition, big data deals with Volume, Velocity and Variety. It enables organizations to exploit information that was previously ignored because there was no reasonable way to process it. One talks about the big data revolution but underpinning this revolution is the capacity to process unstructured data such as written documents, images, audio and videos which make up more than 80 percent of available data today. The WebLab platform aims at building systems providing intelligence solutions from the processing of open source data. Such systems face three major challenges: • Managing large amounts of unstructured data, • Managing the data diversity with the appropriate combination of processing tools , • Allowing the most effective tools to be selected for each processing step. Like Big Data, WebLab addresses intelligence needs and deals with Volume, Variety and Velocity. Can we therefore say that Big Data and WebLab face the same challenges? In fact, it can be argued that Big Data and WebLab are complementary. How can we benefit, then, from the best of both worlds?

Antepedia Reporter and Fossology: Updates and new challenges toward software ...OW2
During this talk we will describe how tools dedicated to open source components and source code scanning like Fossology or Antepedia Reporter help development tools to enforce open source licensing policies. A particular scope will be provided on new trends and challenges regarding Software tracking issues which no longer focus on open source component tracking, but tracking of all artifacts produced over the whole software life cycle including source code items and build artifacts.
Software Heritage: Building the Universal Software Archive, OW2con'16, Paris.OW2
The goal of the Software Heritage project is to collect, preserve, and share all publicly available software in source code form. Forever.
By doing so Software Heritage will serve the needs of: Society, by preserving our collective technological heritage; Industry, by building the largest software provenance open database; Science, by assembling the largest curated archive for software research; and Education, by creating the ultimate anthology for programming curricula.
Although still in Beta, Software Heritage has already archived more than 2.5 billion unique source code files and 600 million unique commits, spanning more than 20 million projects from major software development hubs, GNU/Linux distributions, and upstream software collections.
Software Heritage is developed transparently as a collaborative project and all its own source code is available as Free/Open Source Software. Currently incubated by Inria, the project will graduate soon to an independent charitable, nonprofit organization.
Introduction of Trustie Software Repository & Passion-Lab Data Center, OW2con...OW2
The existing large amount of OSS artifacts has provided abundant materials for understanding how code is reused in open source universe, in particular, what code pieces are mostly reused, in what circumstances people reuse code, and so forth. Understanding this process could help with legacy software maintenance, as well as help to explore best practice of software development. Targeting the change history data of thousands of open source projects, we try to answer the following question: First, how is code reused by other projects? Second, how are code files organized in project and how does this organization structure change over time? To answer these questions, there are several technical difficulties we have to overcome. For example, because of the different kinds of VCSs, it is hard to figure out a uniform model which can represent the evolution progress of code files stored in them. Also, each VCS may have its own data format, so, extracting data from them is a big challenge. Furthermore, using current software algorithm and hardware platform to analyze the version iteration and reuse information of about a billion code files is another challenge.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
