Schools have an important role to play in developing future leaders by nurturing leadership potential in students. A new generation of leaders is needed to address issues like mistrust, disappointment, hunger, lack of education, environmental disasters, terrorism, disease, selfish politics, drug and alcohol abuse, bullying, and war. While leadership traits are often associated with certain positive or negative attributes, true leadership involves authentic self-expression through collaborative relationships that achieve common goals. All people have innate leadership potential, and schools should cultivate this in democratic environments where all students take responsibility.
