nation’s premier civil rights and human relations
agencies.

3. Goals of Peer TrainingGoals of Peer Training
The Peer Training Program strives to accomplish
several goals for the participants. These goals
include:
developing a common vocabulary for discussing issues of diversity,
bigotry and discrimination
recognizing and acknowledging prejudice and discriminatory behavior
in themselves and others
disseminating knowledge and skills throughout the school community
that increase awareness of issues relating to prejudice;
stimulating positive social change towards an inclusive school
environment
creating a forum in which students feel safe to define and speak out
on important issues; and
empowering students with the knowledge they need to make a
difference in all aspects of their lives.
