This study examined the relationship between motivation to travel abroad and anxiety levels in American travelers. It hypothesized that anxiety and motivation would be inversely related and that gender influences decision making and travel anxiety. A survey of 30 participants found no significant relationship between motivation factors (novelty, ego, relaxation) and anxiety levels, or differences in these based on gender. The hypotheses were rejected. Cultural differences and previous travel experience may impact anxiety more than motivations. Future research could examine stress, depression, cultural heritage and norms.
