1. CHEMISTRY
Chemistry is the science that deals with the specific
properties, especially the composition and structure,
of matter and its transformations.
It isn't a chem-mystery!
Chemistry is a physical science because it deals
with "physical quantities" - things that can be
expressed by a number followed by a unit.

4. Properties of Matter
Matter is anything that has mass & occupies a
volume. We also describe matter by itsphysical
and chemical properties.

5. Physical Properties
For a substance like gasoline its physical
properties are:
· odor
· colour
· density

6. Chemical Properties
For a substance like gasoline one of its
chemical properties is:
· flammability
This is true because it involves interactions
with other substances.

10. Chemical Change (Reaction)
When gasoline ignites, it reacts with oxygen to
form new substances including carbon dioxide and
water. This is an example of a chemical change or
a chemical reaction.
