Presented by Upul Indika Kumara
Every moment is an

opportunity, every
person a potential
activist, every minute
a chance to change
the world
Long lasting Solution for the graduate
unemployment in the country
Is there an ability of students to succeed is determined, not only
by the degrees they earn, but also by the quality and relevance
of what they learn to the changing labour market
Problem-According to the
Unemployed Graduate
Association, the number of
unemployed graduates in the
country is around 53,000, who
are demanding a solution 34%
are from Art Stream
Is the solution to attach them to government sector?
More than 90,000 A/L Art stream dropouts
in a every year come to the labor market
4
• Available school curriculum has not been
changed and job market requirement is not
match with the skills and competencies they
gain
• Art stream has more diversified but subject are
not related to each other and not modernized
• Appropriate knowledge and skills demanded
by the labour market, is not gain from the
school and existing university curriculum
• Most creativity subject among the GCE (A/L) is
Aesthetic education but market demand has
not been identified and targeted
• What is ultimate goal of investment in
education. Are we aware about Return of
Investment
• No one has introduce solution to
the issue exist among the Art
Graduates
• Youth Unemployment has been
long lasting issue and no change in
last 10 years
• Scholl education has not been
change to meet the market
requirement
• Universities are taught traditional
syllabus that has no change in
curriculum
• Private sector’s labour
requirements are not being met
by the local graduates
To find a solution, it is important to understand the causes for this
segment’s unemployment.
1. To enhance employability skills through the demanded
skilled labour force
2. Covert At stream as a most demanded employable
stream
3. To change the current skills mismatch situation create
labour force to enhance and contribute regional
economic development

Quality and relevance of the Art Stream Graduates
 Spending time at a university should not serve only as a preparation for a job or a career.
Most faculties have had to continuously reconsider the structure and contents of their
courses to enhance the employment prospects of their graduates
 After earning their degree they are not successful in a competitive market environment.
 Demand for government jobs is common phenomena in every year
 Those who studied for 13 years are youth need right
preparation for the world of work
 Country need to address this issue before university
graduation
 The impetus to a higher level of development of any
country’s economy lies in the general educational
achievement of the country’s citizens.

Job Market Demand
 Globalization which is in full swing, resulting in a competitive
market environment, and the increasing pace of
technological change.
 Labour market employment opportunities too are rapidly evolving
 Our School universities should change curricula and training

these changes.
