This document discusses the challenges of organizing the large volume of information available on the internet. It outlines several approaches that information professionals and technologists are taking to organize hypermedia documents, including using classification schemes, controlled vocabularies, metadata standards, data mining, and collaborative tagging. The document argues that the most effective solutions will come from synergistic collaboration between information professionals and technologists, drawing on each field's unique expertise to develop user-friendly organization and search tools.

Social Networks (OSN) concept. The fact that each Internet user becomes a potential content
creator entails managing a big amount of data. This paper explores the most popular
professional OSN: LinkedIn. A scraping technique was implemented to get around 5 Million
public profiles. The application of natural language processing techniques (NLP) to classify the
educational background and to cluster the professional background of the collected profiles led
us to provide some insights about this OSN’s users and to evaluate the relationships between
educational degrees and professional careers.

form, it has become increasingly difficult to identify the relevant pieces of information on the internet. IR

Knowledgeable representation languages are used for retrieving information. So, there is need to build an
ontology that uses well defined methodology and process of developing ontology is called Ontology
Development. Secondly, Cloud computing and data mining have become famous phenomena in the current
application of information technology. With the changing trends and emerging of the new concept in the
information technology sector, data mining and knowledge discovery have proved to be of significant
importance. Data mining can be defined as the process of extracting data or information from a database
which is not explicitly defined by the database and can be used to come up with generalized conclusions
based on the trends obtained from the data. A database may be described as a collection of formerly
structured data. Multi agents data mining may be defined as the use of various agents cooperatively
interact with the environment to achieve a specified objective. Multi agents will always act on behalf of
users and will coordinate, cooperate, negotiate and exchange data with each other. An agent would
basically refer to a software agent, a robot or a human being Knowledge discovery can be defined as the
process of critically searching large collections of data with the aim of coming up with patterns that can be
used to make generalized conclusions. These patterns are sometimes referred to as knowledge about the
data. Cloud computing can be defined as the delivery of computing services in which shared resources,
information and software’s are provided over a network, for example, the information super highway.

This paper provides a synopsis of the evolutionary changes in the nomenclature of Library andInformation Science (LIS) programme in different countries and makes a case for LIS Schools in
Nigeria to adopt Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) as their new name in line with
current trends. It highlights the specific factors which make this transformation of LIS to IKM
imperative. Various institutions that changed the nomenclature of their LIS programme and thosethat prefer IKM were listed. The scope and content of an IKMprogramme were outlined. In
addition, the implications of IKM for interdisciplinary research and emerging opportunities in the
21st century were discussed. Finally, a proposal was made for a bachelor degree programme inpublishing and multimedia studies/technology, which is highly entrepreneurial in nature. The push
for other information-related disciplines was used to justify the argument for a distinct faculty forthese courses in the Nigerian tertiary education sector. This has implications for the change to IKM
as it underlines the strategic importance of thisrebrandeddiscipline in the educational systems ofthe knowledge economy.
Information technology and resources are an integral and indispensable part of the contemporary academic enterprise. In particular, technological advances have nurtured a new paradigm of data-intensive research. However, far too much of this activity still takes place in silos, to the detriment of open scholarly inquiry, integrity, and advancement. To counteract this tendency, the University of California Curation Center (UC3) has been developing and deploying a comprehensive suite of curation services that facilitate widespread data management, preservation, publication, sharing, and reuse. Through these services UC3 is engaging with new communities of use: in addition to its traditional stakeholders in cultural heritage memory organizations, e.g., libraries, museums, and archives, the UC3 service suite is now attracting significant adoption by research projects, laboratories, and individual faculty researchers. This webinar will present an introduction to five specific services – DMPTool, DataUp, EZID, Merritt, Web Archiving Service (WAS) – applicable to data curation throughout the scholarly lifecycle, two recent initiatives in collaboration with UC campuses, UC Berkeley Research Hub and UC San Francisco DataShare, and the ways in which they encourage and promote new communities of practice and greater transparency in scholarly research.

There is evidence that good data practice leads to increased citation, increased reproducibility, increased productivity, reduced harm and costs of biased or non-transparent research, and that it helps researchers with career progression and provides a better return on investment in research funding. In this presentation we will share feedback on data sharing from a survey of more than 11,000 researchers globally, as well as evidence from our own implementation of standardised data policies and the work of the Research Data Alliance’s Data Policy Implementation Interest Group.

Want practical tips and resources to improve your management of research data? On 23 February 2017 this free LIBER webinar focused on the 23 Things list: a set of free, online resources and tools that you can immediately use to change how you manage research data.
Developed in August 2015 by librarians engaged in the Research Data Alliance (RDA), the 23 Things program was created as a training resource for librarians, It has been translated into 11 languages and covers topics related to research data such as data management plans, data literacy, metadata, data citation, data licensing and privacy, data repositories, and communities of practice.
In March 2016, the concept was expanded into a 23-week, national training and community-building program led by the Australian National Data Service. The program was an immediate success. Over 1,200 people participated in the launch webinar and 50 local community groups were formed (in person or virtually), to learn a new ‘thing’ to improve their research data practice.
This webinar explored the content of both the 23 Things resource from RDA, and introduced the in-depth, 23-week training program as an opportunity for professional development and wider adoption and evaluation.

The digital library is an information technology that is structured as a digital knowledge resource, or can be alluded to a medium that stores information for a huge scope and is teamed up with the information the board gadget equipped for showing the information or information required by the client. The main aim of this study is to study the awareness and using pattern of digital library by the researchers, to analyse the influence of digital library on researchers’ efficiency, analyse the purpose of using Digital Library Consortium, decide the effect of problems and motivational components of the digital library on the users, evaluate the satisfaction level of users with coverage of journals and perspectives on training and awareness programs and propose the available resources for effective utilization of the Digital Library.

Healthcare applications now have the ability to exploit big data in all its complexity. A crucial challenge is to achieve interoperability or integration so that a variety of content from diverse physical (IoT)- cyber (web-based)- and social sources, with diverse formats and modality (text, image, video), can be used in analysis, insight, and decision-making. At Kno.e.sis, an Ohio Center of Excellence in BioHealth Innovation, we have a variety of large, collaborative healthcare/clinical/biomedical projects, all involving domain experts and end-users, and access to real world data that include: clinical/EMR data (of individual patients and that related to public health), data from a variety of sensors (IoT) on and around patients measuring real-time physiological and environmental observations), social data (Twitter, Web forums, PatientsLikeMe), Web search logs, etc. Key projects include: Prescription drug abuse online-surveillance and epidemiology (PREDOSE), Social media analysis to monitor cannabis and synthetic cannabinoid use (eDrugTrends), Modeling Social Behavior for Healthcare Utilization in Depression, Medical Information Decision Assistant and Support (MIDAS) with application to musculoskeletal issues, kHealth: A Semantic Approach to Proactive, Personalized Asthma Management Using Multimodal Sensing (also for Dementia), and Cardiology Semantic Analysis System (with applications to Computer Assisted Coding and Computerized Document Improvement).

has specific requirements that can be satisfied through the extraction of semantics from learning
management systems (LMS) that use relational databases (RDB) as backend. In this paper, we propose
transformation rules for building owl ontology from the RDB of the open source LMS Moodle. It allows
transforming all possible cases in RDBs into ontological constructs. The proposed rules are enriched by
analyzing stored data to detect disjointness and totalness constraints in hierarchies, and calculating the
participation level of tables in n-ary relations. In addition, our technique is generic; hence it can be applied
to any RDB.

The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

2. There is huge volume of information available on the Internet 2 Yahoo alone claims to have indexed 20 billion documents. Search Engine Exalead indexed about 7 billion documents. There are one million videos on Youtube About 7 lack electronic books and niche titles are published every year. Web is growing at the @300 percent every year.

4. In the North America, the percentage of the Internet penetration in population is 77.4%,whereas users are 13.5% of population.
5. In the European region, percentage of its penetration in population is 58.4 percent, whereas users are 24.2% of population.

8. Enormous volume of information is available, whereas an individual information user has a limited time and capacity to make use of such information resources.
9. The challenge for individual user is to make choices of documents to use in a given time constraint.

11. This requires categorization and organization of worthwhile hypermedia according to some order or schema. 7 Hypermedia offers an exciting new method of linking and searching information. It promptly facilitates spatial search of collateral sources of information cited or linked with a document. Any further effort for hypermedia documents’ organization has to be pursued keeping in view and keeping intact this intrinsic feature of hypermedia. As the Internet is now increasingly concentrating on personal space, any hypermedia organization schema should also offer an information prescription to an end user’s information problem. It must meet the ultimate objective of customized and personalized dissemination of information.

Hypermedia and Different subject areas 8 In certain subject areas hypermedia documents can offer a way to create information chains for better understanding of past developments for facilitating future course of action. For instance. In the subject area of law, latest case decisions can be hyperlinked with previous judgments of other courts and relevant legislations. In the subject field of history, latest development and contemporary situations can be hyperlinked with the past happenings that may themselves be organized in the chronological order. In chemistry, documents reporting new compounds can be hyperlinked with the related past research to provide comprehensive information for better understanding of development of new compounds. Patent documents in a specific area may be linked to trace the course of inventions and study technology history.
13. Fluid information environment 9 The present fluid information environment offers, a fertile field for knowledge organization and information architecture research. Focus is desired to develop knowledge organization tools and practices that may facilitate instant packaging and repackaging of information content giving due credit to authorship and respect to copyright laws. Efforts are also desired for standardization of such tools and practices at the international level in the interest of information processing global information communication.
