Ceramics can be made from a combination of metals and non-metals like silicon, boron, and oxygen. Ceramics have a wide variety of applications including in aerospace, electrical engineering, and environmental engineering. Porcelain is a ceramic material formed by fusing elements together at lower temperatures, and it is used to make dental crowns and dentures. The history of ceramics includes developments like ceramic painting cases in the 1700s and the aluminum core dental product in the 1960s. Ceramics find many uses including in white wares for spark plugs and insulators, clay for bricks and tiles, and stone wares for pipes and vessels.
