This document summarizes research conducted on faculty experiences with a new instructor training program called "Teaching at CDL". The research involved 30 phone interviews and 42 online surveys of instructors. The results showed that most instructors had taught 1-3 courses, had previous face-to-face teaching experience, and were aware of the new instructor training program. Half of interviewees and the majority of survey respondents felt prepared for their first term after completing all or most of the training program. The research also gathered feedback from instructors on techniques for encouraging student participation and critical reflection, as well as likes and dislikes of online teaching.

In a graduate level course, peer instructors were trained to create online quizzes for use as optional formative assessments by students. These quizzes were created using ExamSoft, and designed to reflect the format of summative in-class exams. Quizzes were made available to students, and performance was recorded. At the conclusion of each semester, quiz and exam psychometrics were analyzed and compared to determine the effect of quizzes on exam performance in the courses. Comparisons revealed improvements in scores between quizzes and exams and a benefit to students utilizing the resources, making them a useful instrument in the self-directed learning toolbox. Self-testing, a type of formative assessment, provides students with a study tool that can help identify areas of weakness. Despite their usefulness, this type of additional learning resource can often be time consuming for faculty members, limiting its successful use across multiple courses. The use of peer tutors has been shown to provide advantages to faculty members as well as students utilizing tutoring services and the tutors themselves. This session will instruct participants on the implementation and analysis of self-assessments using ExamSoft.
At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
1) Demonstrate the process of enrolling peer instructors as exam item writers.
2) Demonstrate the use of the internal comments box as a means of providing feedback to peer instructors.
3) Describe the process for analyzing ExamSoft data in the comparison of quiz and exam performance.

This presentation by CDL College covers CSA Training. It's geared towards the truck driver. We explain the basics of the the Compliance Safety and Accountability program adopted by FMCSA. We have tried many different ways to drive home the importance of vehicle inspections.
This CSA presentation helps drive home the point. Slide 13 contains hyperlinks to another section of the course. Slide 13 lists actual violations with a hyperlink that describes the criteria to be inspected. In my opinion, hyperlinking from the violation to the criteria reinforces the proper way to inspect an item.
For example,the first violation (listed on slide 13) shows a violation for an inoperative head lamp. This violation has a severity of 2. The presenter can then click through the hyperlink to show the proper inspection criteria for a head lamp.
Showing the violation and the severity help explain the importance of checking the headlamp. In a normal pre-trip inspection we would start with the headlamp. The driver would fall asleep during this portion of the lecture.
Who doesn't know how to inspect a headlamp? But, the driver tends to pay attention when we (first) show them the weight and severity of a headlamp violation. This is a long presentation. But, you can spend most of your time on slide 13, bouncing back and forth between the violation and the criteria.

This document provides instructions for basic backing maneuvers and general procedures for backing a vehicle safely. Correct shifting of gears is important. If you cannot
get your vehicle into the right gear while driving,
you will have less control.
MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS
Basic Method for Shifting Up. Most heavy vehicles with manual transmissions require double
clutching to change gears. This is the basic
method:
Release accelerator, push in clutch and shift to neutral at the same time.
Release clutch.
Let engine and gears slow down to the RPM required for the next gear (this takes practice).
Push in clutch and shift to the higher gear at the
same time.
Release clutch and press accelerator at the same
time.
Shifting gears using double clutching requires
practice. If you remain too long in neutral, you may
have difficulty putting the vehicle into the next
gear. If so, do not try to force it. Return to neutral,
release clutch, increase engine speed to match
road speed, and try again.
Knowing When to Shift Up. There are two ways
of knowing when to shift:
Use Engine Speed (RPM). Study the driver's
manual for your vehicle and learn the operating
RPM range. Watch your tachometer, and shift up
when your engine reaches the top of the range.
(Some newer vehicles use "progressive" shifting:
the RPM at which you shift becomes higher as you
move up in the gears. Find out what is right for the
vehicle you will operate.)
Use Road Speed (MPH). Learn what speeds each
gear is good for. Then, by using the speedometer,
you will know when to shift up.
With either method, you may learn to use engine
sounds to know when to shift.

Pre trip inspection(2014)

For this assignment, you should interview two individuals who have earned a doctorate degree in the field of education (either a Ph. D or an Ed. D). You should use the Interview Templates document provided in the Assignment Instructions folder to conduct your interview and record the subjects’ responses. The interview can be conducted in person or through videoconferencing (with a tool like Skype). Whichever method you choose to use for the interview, be aware that both interviews must be audio recorded for official transcription. It is important to test the audio equipment prior to conducting the interview because the transcription is a required element for the interview. You will submit both interview transcriptions (as recorded in the Interview Templates document) in Module/Week 7; however you must conduct AT LEAST ONE INTERVIEW by the end of Wednesday of Module/Week 5.
By interviewing individuals who have already completed the dissertation process for the field of education, you will have the opportunity to become acquainted with one data collection method while simultaneously increasing your understanding of the dissertation process. Thus, as you look for candidates to interview, it would be helpful for you to interview individuals with degrees similar to the one you are pursuing.
