Florence + the Machine is an English indie rock band formed in London in 2007. Their music incorporates elements of rock, soul, and baroque pop. The band gained prominence in the UK through support from the BBC, especially on the radio program BBC Introducing. Their debut album Lungs, released in 2009, was a commercial success and praised for its blend of genres. The breakup that inspired much of the album material contributed to its emotional tone. Subsequent albums continued their exploration of love, pain, and the human experience through a signature ethereal yet rousing sound.
