Rationales: Some community members are
psychosocially affected because of poverty
and are not taking part in community
development. Hence, CBPS is to be
mainstreamed in to our usual work to solve
psychosocial issues of rural communities.
Hence field implementers have to know
approaches of CBPS
To create awareness on CBPS to
technical workers so that target
communities will get proper support
1. PPP
2. Discussion with participants
3. Group work and presentation
4. Drafting contextual checklists to
our project area
1. Knowledge on approaches of CBPS
will be attained
2. Guiding and core principles of CBPS
will be well understood
3. Facilitation for community self help
and social support will be outlined
4. Participants will contextualize profile
of target communities for CBPS
1 Core principles of CBPS
2. Matrix of intervention
2.1. Emergency response
2.2. Minimum response
2.3. Compressive Response
3. Facilitation, participation and
community mobilization
4. Psychosocial well-being
1. Human right and equality: Right base approaches
2. Participation: Insure full participation of affected
people
3. Don't harm: Psychosocially affected peoples are very
sensitive, intervention with sufficient information,
developing competency of intervention, power
relation recognition b/n outsiders
4. Building on available resources: Handstand affected
peoples have assets, right based approaches
5. Integrated support: Avoid Proliferation of stand
alone services for people with specific diagnosis
6. Multilayered support: people are affected in
different way and require different kind of support.
See the intervention pyramid with the next slide

Community and family support
Basic Services and security
1. Coordination: Identify proper
organization and resources and
integrate
2. Assessment and monitoring: Base
line, Implementation and monitoring
3. Protection of human right standards:
Review policies, work with people at
risk, advocate for compliance,
1. Establish coordination
2. Conduct Assessment
3. Apply human right framework
4. Identify proper organization and
resource person to implement
activities
1. Coordinate inter-sectoral CBPS
2. Initiate participatory system of
monitoring and evaluation
3. Enforce staff code of conduct
4. Prevent and manage mental health
Community Mobilization is: Effort made
from both inside and outside the
community to involve its members in all
the discussions, decisions and actions
that affect them and their future (IASC,
2012).

Facilitation is any activity that makes
tasks for others easy, or tasks that
are assisted. In facilitation, what ever
you are planning, street forward or
complex, several efforts or shortcut;
always keep in mind the outcome.
1. Ice breakers: Easing group contribution
2. Multi voting: Choosing from many options
3. Brainstorming: Generating many radical
ideas
4. Role playing: preparing for difficult situation
5. Strategy tools: Understand your
environment
6. Decision making techniques: giving formal
tools for making difficult decision
1. Recognition by community members as
to have common concern
2. Developing sense of responsibility and
ownership that comes with recognition
3. Identification of internal community
resources and knowledge
4. Identification of priority issues
5. Community members plan and action
sheets
6. Growing capacity of community
members and increase effectiveness of
communities
How we are feeling internally affects how
we relate to the environment around us
(IASC, 2002). How we are feeling
internally depends on security of safety,
participation and development totally

There are 50 community members who
need psychosocial support, so that LWF
allocated 100,000 Birr to socialize them in
one year intensive intervention. 10% of
them needs specialized support, 30% needs
focused non specialized service and the rest
60% needs family service and basic services.
Based on the hypothetical givens, define
the target groups and prepare nine month
work plan that can address CBPS issues.
