The document discusses the challenges of writing an essay about Abraham Lincoln. It notes that Lincoln's life was complex, as he had a significant impact on American history but can be interpreted in diverse ways. Writing about him requires thorough research into primary and secondary sources to understand the historical context of his era and engage with different perspectives. The essay should provide an original analysis that contributes new insights about Lincoln rather than just recounting facts. Overall, an essay on Lincoln demands strong research, critical thinking, and synthesis skills to appreciate history and contribute to ongoing discussions about this important leader.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

Causal Analysis Essay.pdf
1. Causal Analysis Essay
Writing a causal analysis essay can be a challenging task that requires a thoughtful and analytical
approach. The difficulty lies in the intricate process of identifying and analyzing the cause-and-
effect relationships within a given topic. Unlike other types of essays, a causal analysis essay
demands a thorough understanding of the subject matter and the ability to connect various
elements in a logical and coherent manner.
To successfully craft this type of essay, one must delve deep into research to gather relevant
information and data. The writer needs to identify the primary causes and their subsequent
effects, establishing a clear and persuasive relationship between them. Developing a compelling
thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of the causal chain adds another layer of
complexity to the writing process.
Furthermore, organizing the essay in a structured and cohesive manner is crucial. Each paragraph
should seamlessly transition from one point to the next, guiding the reader through the causal
connections without causing confusion. Balancing the depth of analysis with clarity and
conciseness is an additional challenge, ensuring that the essay remains focused on the chosen
topic without becoming overly complex or convoluted.
Moreover, the writer must be adept at presenting evidence and supporting arguments effectively.
This involves not only providing relevant examples but also explaining the significance of each
cause-and-effect relationship. Creating a persuasive narrative that compels the reader to
understand and accept the proposed causal connections is a skill that requires careful attention to
detail and a mastery of language.
In conclusion, writing a causal analysis essay demands a combination of research skills, critical
thinking, and effective communication. It involves navigating through complex causal
relationships and presenting them in a coherent and compelling manner. The process requires
dedication, time, and a keen understanding of the subject matter. However, with the right
approach and commitment, one can overcome the challenges and create a well-crafted causal
analysis essay.
On a related note, if you find yourself struggling with essay writing or require assistance with
similar tasks, various resources are available to help. Services likeHelpWriting.net offer support
in crafting essays, research papers, and more. Professional assistance can provide valuable

2. The Flea, By Andrew Marvell
John Donne s, The Flea, and Andrew Marvell s To His Coy Mistress are persuasive
poem in which the speaker is attempting to establish a sexual union with his
significant other. These poems is spoken by a male lover to his female beloved as an
attempt to convince her to sleep with him. John Donne and Marvell brings out and
shapes this meaning through his collective use of conceit, rhythm, and rhyme
scheme. The basic theme of the poems is the speaker s need to turn his coy mistress
into a willing mistress .
Donne uses the flea as a conceit, to represent a sexual union with his significant
other. Marvell using his way with words to convince his lover to a sexual union. In
the first stanza in The Flea, a flea bites the speaker and woman. He responds to this
incident by saying, And in this flea our bloods mingled be. (line 4). He is
suggesting that they are united in this flea and would equally be united in
intimacy. In the first stanza of To His Coy Mistress , the speaker tells his woman
that if they had more time and space that her coyness wouldn t be a crime. He says
this, Had we but World enough, and Time, This coyness lady were no crime . (line
1,2) Marvell also would compliment her and admire her. In the Flea , the speaker
tries to marry the man and woman while in To His Coy Mistress the man is not
trying to marry the
Duncan 2 two but trying to get the lady to sleep with him by using time. Donne
states, This flea is you and I, and this our marriage bed, and

4. Essay The State of Michigan
Michigan is the only state in the union composed to two separated peninsulas. At
the closest point, the upper and lower peninsulas are a mere five miles apart. In the
early twentieth century, the only way to make the trip across the five miles of
Lake Michigan and Lake Huron was to take a boat ride from one side to the other.
As businesses expanded and industry grew, the demand to cross the lakes for travel
and commerce purposes grew. The only way to cross the lake was by means of a
ferry service, which was unable to keep up with consumer demand. Michigan
residents were unable to get convenient and frequent transport between the
peninsulas. They needed a consistent, fast, and safe way to travel freely from the

However, after proposing a needed sum of 35 million dollars to complete the
project, the PWA denied funding (Brown 6). Even after revisions to the original plan
and an endorsement of feasibility from the United States Army Corps of Engineers,
the project was still deemed financially impossible by the PWA (Shaul 24). The
Mackinac Bridge Authority was dissolved entirely in in 1947 in light of World War
II, but was re opened to discussion in 1951 with very different plans on financing
the bridge (Brown 8 9). After multiple appeals to the state and federal governments
for funding to construct the bridge, the Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) worked
for the next two years to determine the economic costs of building the Mackinac
Bridge. In 1952, they produced a figure of 76.3 million dollars (Brown 11). This
time, however, the MBA decided to stop chasing government funding and finance
the bridge strictly using private bonds. Once interest was calculated, it was
estimated that the MBA would need a total of 96 million dollars to complete the
project (Brown 16). The economics of the project now began to finally sway from
costs to benefits. Each bond underwriter stood the chance to make considerable
money by helping to finance the bridge. On December 17, 1953, Allen Company
purchased 79.8 million dollars worth of bonds at four percent
5. Compare And Contrast A Christmas Carol
Instantly after reading A Christmas Carol your immersion is brought to the message
Dickens was projecting; which is to be kind to others. When watching the muppet
version of A Christmas Carol you can distinguish many similarities as well as
differences with the two versions. Here are some differences discovered between the
book and the movie. In the scene where Scrooge meets the ghost of his old business
partner Jacob Marley, there are very noticeable alterations. In the movie Scrooge is
visited by Jacob and Robert Marley, however, in the book Scrooge is only visited by
one specter which is Jacob Marley. Surely you would agree that in the book Scrooge
is eating gruel shortly before the phantom of Jacob Marley appears. Despite Scrooge

6. Essay on Hearing vs. Listening
Those not thoroughly educated in communication tend to confuse the terms hearing
and listening. Although they appear to mean the same thing, utilize the same body
part, and are both required for functional communication, there is a great difference
between these two actions. Hearing involves the perceptionof soundusing the ears,
while listening is based upon giving attention to the sound being perceived.
Additionally, because these concepts are different, there are also several different
ways of improving hearingand listening. Thus, there are several differences between
these two concepts, and it is important to signify these differences in order to practice
effective communication. Hearing is known to be an automatic function of... Show

Listening is more complex, and it encourages one to analyze and think about an
idea, rather than to simply accept it (or hear it). Hearing is a skill that is beneficial
for every aspect of life. As long as we have our ability to hear, we will always
perceive different sounds, music, and voices. Listening, however, is beneficial to
us in specific instances. It is important for us to attain good listening skills in
education, the work force, and in our relationships with others in order to succeed.
Good listening in education will bring about confident participation in class
discussions; good listening in the workplace will lead to cooperation and good
teamwork among colleagues; good listening in relationships is healthy and
positive, for it is important to hear what an individual has to say in order to know
how they feel. Finally, aside from the complexity and various uses of these two
different concepts, there are also different methods to improve each of them.
Improving one s hearing usually involves a more physical approach. For example,
if a student in a classroom is having trouble hearing their teacher, the first step they
should take is to move closer to the speaker. Decreasing the distance between the
speaker and the listener, as well as adjusting the volume at which one is speaking are
physical ways to ensure one is hearing something correctly. It is not uncommon for
the elderly to lose part of their hearing
7. Books Are Better Than Paper Books
Did a person know that each year, Approximately 30 million trees are used to make
books all over the United States (Pollak)? Americans have been exposed to books
every day since we were able to read. Interestingly, many people still prefer paper
books over the new modern way of reading called an E book. Many readers feel that
they can connect better to the paper version. Paper and E books depend on natural
resources, size, prices, and abilities. What would the reader buy: the modern E Book
or old school paper books? With many people today still enjoying paper books,
they don t realize the harm it causes the environment. When trees are cut down to
make paper, oxygen can no longer be made. This can have huge effects on us and
our world. One way to help reduce the number of trees being cut down is to recycle
or purchase recycled books only. A paper book takes up about 2/3 pounds of
recycled paper and two gallons of water. The environment is taking up 7.5 kilograms
of Co2 and using two kilowatt hours of fossil fuels (CustomMade).
Some may say that paper books hurt the environment because of destroying trees
but E books need electricity in order to work. So, which is worse? E book needs to be
charged to read, therefore a person cannot recycle since its technology based book.
When seeking deeper in how they kill the world, One E book uses 33 pounds of toxic
and conflict minerals with 79 gallons of water which is 35.84 kilograms. Also, is
using 65 pounds of Co2 with

The first day you arrive at COTA (Correction Officer Training Academy) you
realize your world is now different and will never be the same. You will learn things,
see things and hear things like you never have before. The first thing you realize is
there is more structure in this profession then you realize. You will learn of a rank
structure from sergeant, lieutenant, captain and even major. Now for those who have
militarybackground or who grew up in a military family it is an easy transition but
for someone like me who has never been around that type of structure it took some
getting used to. I have had jobs with bosses like everyone else has but this
environment is completely different. The first thing you are taught is how important

Trace Evidence
Crime Scene/Scenario #1 Sacramento, CA July 1986 Allan Dakin, 50, is bicycling
toward his favorite fishing spot. He stops at a flooded irrigation ditch and works his
way down to check his crawdad traps when he spots a young blond female, floating in
the water face down. He panics, heads home to notify authorities. Sheriff deputies
and local fire department respond first to the scene at 8:45 am, and push the body
using a long gaff to the opposite bank where the victim will not drift downstream.

Now that I have recorded the scene as I found it, I am having have the fire
department captain remove the victim from the water in a way that will not
disturb any evidence left on the victims body, making certain they are careful to
not damage the body, leave any evidence in the water, or further contaminate the
body. They pull out a 5 8 , 150lb young female with short blond hair and brown
eyes, I have recorded this information using the Crime Scene and Human Figure
Templates (Swanson et al 54). I will now establish what happened here, determine
the sequence of events; find out what the perpetrator did, and note inconsistencies.
After organizing the crime scene I am interviewing Allan Dakin. I will ask what he
was doing here, how he found the body, why was he here, and take down all his
information for later interrogation. Once I have interviewed witnesses, I can
properly document and recover physical evidence in the evidence recovery log,
and photographs (Swanson et al 49). Anything can be physical evidence so it is
crucial that nothing be touched or tampered with until assessed. I am looking for
fingerprints, tire tracks, tools, weapons, damaged areas, palm prints and any body
materials. I see that there are twigs stuck in the victim s bra strap, and there is dirt
on her back and shoulders. I collect those twigs and dirt samples as evidence so that
the forensic team may later test them using genetic fingerprinting to see if

understanding the material rather than deeper understanding of chemical concepts.
Because student s psychomotor goal is the most priority goal among cognitive one,
pursuits of conceptual understanding are usually delayed. Surprisingly, in Town s

Executive Summary.
This case analysis evaluates Chick fil A. It is designed to show the Strength,
weakness, opportunities and threat. It delineates how the founding principles have
guided the company over the years, and how it has responded slowly to change over
the years. CFA has grown to be a force to reckon with in the industry with strength in
customer experience and sandwich trademark. However, the emerging markets, social
changes, economic issues and intense rivalry will continue to pose threat to this
strong cultured company. At the end of the case analysis, we would have been able to

spans through the entire population spectrum, however, it focuses on family. The
high expectations by CFA are obviously because of the need to preserve the
founding heritage and culture. As CFA strives to be the best quick service restaurant
, key external factors affect CFA. Demographics is a major threat, this includes race,
age and gender. CFA is family oriented and believes in marriage, but a comment he
made on this issue earned him a bad publicity. However, that created an opportunity
in the Christian community. Despite the harm of this factor, revenue went up same
year. His adherence to his principles proved to people that CFA would not downplay
its core values. Another threat are rivalry and intense competitors. The industry is a

McDonalds and Taco Bell. New entrants is a threat to CFA, example is Oporto who

Since Sundays are off days for CFA, customers will like to look for substitutes, and
if rivals provided them, this might affect CFA. Example of substitute from rival is

14. Similarities Between Macbeth And A Midsummer Night s
Dream
The supernatural, generally understood, includes all phenomena that cannot be
explained by the known and accepted laws of natural science. In literature, it may be
used to develop outcomes unimaginable to natural domains or it may be brought into
play as simply a human belief that progresses into motive for power, concluding with
results reached by purely natural means. Macbeth and A Midsummer Night s Dream
both maintain an element of the whimsical and supernatural, in completely separate
manners. Whether the supernatural aspect is in the appearance of a ghost or the
description of an ancient god, it often bears a connection to the larger scheme of the
play. The witches of Macbeth serve as catalysts whereas the fairies of A Midsummer
Night s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The witches who prove time and time again that their prophecies speak the truth
lead Macbeth to continue heeding their words. Predicting the future is a
supernatural act, but mere humans make these prophesies come true. The
apparitions are the foundation of the witches scheme; they further trick and blind
Macbeth of the truth by making him believe that he is invincible. Macbeth is
deceived for none of woman born/Shall harm Macbeth and Macbeth shall never
vanquished be until/Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill/shall come
against him (Macbeth.IV.i.91 92, 105 107). Macbeth possesses such a great deal
of faith in the words of the witches that a false sense of security is established. It is
not until the final battle where Macbeth experiences the brutal betrayal of his own
ignorance when his servant looked toward Birnam, and anon [he thought]/the
wood began to move (Macbeth.V.v.38 39). Aware of the verity behind the
revelations, Macbeth puts far too much trust in the witches. It is when Macduff,
reveals himself to be born of a C section does Macbeth realize his own demise.
Macbeth who willingly succumbs to the witches authority, has power over his fate
whereas the lovers of A Midsummer Night s Dream do not. Fate is intertwined
with probability in the form of Puck. From the beginning, one associates Puck with
the conflict between the Athenian lovers. Their fate was not theirs to choose as it
is in Puck s hands. Lord, what fools these mortals be , Puck gleefully expresses as
he comments on the falling in and out of love of the Athenian lovers, he inflicts
himself (A Midsummer Night s Dream.III.ii.115). From mistaken identities to lovers
quarrels, the lives of the mortal characters of A Midsummer Night s Dream was no
longer theirs to control. Unlike Macbeth, however, A Midsummer Night s Dream
resolves on a lighter note as identities are
15. Sexist Stereotypes Of Men And Women
The sexist stereotypes of men and women significantly enforced their roles in the
Vietnam War. While the draft excluded women, protecting them from war s
brutality and tragedies, men were forced from their homes to be enlisted in the
army. In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, a platoon is comprised of
struggling young men whose lives are challenged each day. On the other hand,
women blissfully live in the states, provided with complete comfort and security,
both of which the soldiers are not able to acquire. There is a tremendous discrepancy
between the lives at war and in the states. Those who are not exposed to the world
outside their own have an inability to empathize with the emotional baggage that the
soldiers carry. Throughout... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
O Brien s use of Martha s carelessness manifests a representation of society s
abandonment of the soldiers. Society left the soldiers without support like Martha
does to Cross by not inquiring more about the war. The same case pertains to
Dobbins and his girlfriend. One day, Dobbins receives mail where his girlfriend
dumped him. It was a hard blow. Dobbins went quiet for a while, staring down at
her letter (112). Like Martha, Dobbins s girlfriend does not sympathize with the
pain of the soldier. She is unable to consider the relentless brutality that Dobbins is
confronted with at war, and discards the idea that she may be his motivation to
keep fighting and to stay alive. Instead, Dobbins s girlfriend breaks up with him as
he continues to fight for survival. Dobbins s emotions are not taken into account,
so his girlfriend carelessly moves on with her own life, leaving Dobbins alone.
Losing this direct connection to home results in a loss of security which is what
society did to the soldiers, so they were ostracized and left to fight and cope by
themselves. The representation of the lack of society s support continues to be seen
through women s insensitivity towards the soldiers pain by prioritizing their lives
even after the war. After telling Kiley s story about slaughtering the baby buffalo, O

16. Kant Theory and Justice
Immanuel Kant concerns himself with deontology, and as a deontologist, he believes
that the rightness of an action depends in part on things other than the goodness of its
consequences, and so, actions should be judged based on an intrinsic moral law that
says whether the action is right or wrong period. Kant introduced the Categorical
Imperativewhich is the central philosophy of his theory of morality, and an
understandable approach to this moral law. It is divided into three formulations.
The first formulation of Kant s Categorical Imperative states that one should always
act in such a way that the maxim of your action can be willed as a universal law of
humanity ; an act is either right or wrong based on its ability to be... Show more

The action so far seems good, but we must test its universality. Can we imagine
ourselves living in a world in which all societies seek to aid the underprivileged and
the disadvantaged at the slight expense of others? Absolutely yes. It is important
for one to bear in mind, however, that it is the very action of helping that is being
judged as inherently good or bad, and not the action s admirable or overbearing
surrounding consequences. Secondly, we must test that the action is regarding
everyone involved as ends and not as means to any particular purpose. Since the aim
of affirmative action is to help the current predicaments of those people who were
victimized in the past, focus is placed on respecting every individual s autonomy. In
this way, we can see that affirmative action is not a devious plan that seeks to
manipulate, but one that seeks to compensate by adjusting the means (circumstances)
and not the ends (individuals). Lastly, we must see if the action is establishing a
universal law governing others in similar situations; one should behave as if one is
the absolute moral authority of the universe. Is completing this action consistent with
the application of moral law? If so, the affirmative action passes these three tests and
the action is good.
In his Objections to Affirmative Action , James Sterba talks about why he believes
that Affirmative Action is morally wrong. He argues that a person s race shouldn t
control his or her point of interest. Sterba

To begin, when comparing and contrasting the Haida and the Inuit big and small
differences appear throughout their culture and identity. Two different tribes, two
completely different cultures. But then again, how do they connect heritage wise?
Well, when you think about the tribes they might not be so different after all.
When, talking about the challenges the Inuit and the Haida faced they are almost
completely different. Since both tribes live in a survival area, their struggle to live is
constant. One challenge that the Inuit that the Haida does not is the weather, which

Haida have to face that the Inuit does not have to is hunting. Sure hunting is still

Some universals of culture that come to mind when describing the Haida and the

To conclude, the Haida and the Inuit might not be so different after all. Their

1928 and 1929 were important years for Los Angeles born Chinese actress Anna
May Wong. News reports about her Hollywood movies decreased, instead,
according to an American gossip columnist visiting Europe during Wong s tenure,
she was acclaimed by nobility in several European newspapers (Petersen, 2014).
Severely limited by the noxious roles she was offered in Hollywood, which
misrepresented Asian women, Wong left the United States for Europe (Vechten,

global attention and worldwide stardom. This special period in Wong s life was also

20. Chronic Effects Of Chronic Kidney Disease
Background:
In 2015, chronic diseases were the leading cause of death worldwide, accounting
for 63% of all deaths (Schaepe Bergjan, 2015). Last year, the estimated prevalence
of chronic kidney disease (CKD) globally was between eight and sixteen percent
(Schaepe Bergjan, 2015). Patients are often diagnosed during the latter stages of
CKD due to the lack of symptoms earlier on, and as a result, require dialysis or renal
transplantation to prolong or sustain their life. Unfortunately, the need for transplants
is much greater than the availability of donor kidneys leaving patients with dialysis,
an artificial way of filtering the blood, as their only option for sustaining life.

Studies have found that patients with CKD have a lower quality of life (QOL)
compared to the general healthy population as well as those with other chronic
diseases (Timmers et al., 2008). Quality of life (QOL) can be defined as an individual
s perception of self within the context of their culture and value system in relation to
their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns of daily life (Boudreau Dube,
2014). While working with patients through renal replacement therapy, nurses have
the ability to impact patient s QOL by utilizing the nursing process to promote
positive outcomes through physical assessment, the development of care plans, the
implementation of nursing interventions, and the evaluation of health care outcomes.
The implementation of individualized care plans and effective nursing interventions
can be guided by simply gaining insight on the patient s perception of their QOL
(Boudreau Dube, 2014). The QOL of CKD patients receiving dialysis is especially
important to nursing due to the prevalence of the disease worldwide, the co
morbidities associated with CKD, and the likelihood of it progressing to end stage
renal disease (ESRD). Dialysis patients commonly experience physical and mental
issues including, but not limited to, itching, lack of energy, loss of self esteem, and
uncertainty regarding the future (Timmers et al., 2008). Thus, the goal is to
accommodate these patients with their lifestyle modifications and provide the highest
21. The Pros And Cons Of Zoos
Virginia Mckenna, a British stage and screen actress, author, and wildlife
campaigner, once said We would consider it cruel to confine a dog permanently in
a kennel. Yet we visit zoos where hundreds of wild animals are kept permanently in
the equivalent of a kennel. On average, 6,126 animals are kept in enclosures
(Statistic Brain). Of those 6,126 animals, only 1,041 are endangered. The 5,085
are kept in tight, confined areas for educational purposes. Zoos date back to as far
as 2500 BCE with evidence that rulers and people of higher class used exotic
animals as a way of showing the ruler s power and wealth. In later years, the idea of
containing animals in a confined area was adapted by scientists and taken into
effect to help guide research during the Enlightenment Era. Zoos may be viewed as
educational establishments, but the negative realities overpower the positive.
According to National Geographic, the idea of zoos, or menageries, a private
collection of animals, was first created by wealthy people to display their power.
In Egypt and Mesopotamia, wall carvings dating back as early as 2500 BCE serve
as evidence that rulers and aristocrats sent their people out on expeditions to bring
back exotic animals. This trend also continued in later years. For example, China,
Greece, Rome, and Mexico all had some form of the equivalent to a zoo. Although
these early creations of menageries helped to shape the appearance of zoos, the
modern zoo came together during the Age of
22. Ocean Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
A symbol is anything that represents an object, an idea, a character, an action, or an
animal in the story. Many times, these symbols signify something conceptual, like
a force of nature, a condition of the world, or an idea. In the book, Lord Of The
Flies, there are many symbols that signify the beginning or end of something new
in the story. For example, the island and the ocean, the water current flowing
backwards, and the beast all symbolize a new change and realization to the story.
The island and the ocean symbolize an uncharted, untouched area, the indefinite
and endless nature of life that can change from calm to chaos in seconds, and, also,
strength, tranquility, and stability. The island and the ocean symbolize both a
paradise and also the destructive nature of humanity. The island can symbolize a
Garden of Eden, a pristine and bountiful place where the boys can begin anew. In
the beginning of the book, Jack says, we are going to have fun on this island
(Golding 104). The boys really did think of this island as a paradise, or at least
Jack did. However, much like the biblical Garden of Eden, paradise can be
suddenly lost when the boys are enticed by evil. The advent of the boys pollutes
the sanctity of the island, as did the advent of Satan and the eventual temptation of
Eve and loss and innocence ( Lauryn Galloway ). The pristine paradise is set on fire
by the boys and everything gets destroyed but luckily it saved them because a ship
saw the smoke. The ocean can symbolize the incessant and endless nature of life
but it also symbolizes becoming astray and then finding one s way through life.
The ocean is a boundless space isolating the boys from all they once knew about
the world. But after Simon dies and gets washed out into the sea, the ocean
symbolizes all good getting washed away, getting replaced by evil. Simon becomes
the good bygone and Jack becomes the evil washing over. But the island and the
ocean aren t the only symbols in the book. The water current flowing backwards, that
deceives many into thinking it is just a detail, actually symbolizes more. The water
current flowing backwards can symbolize many things. It could be giving the subtle
impression that civilization may be

24. The Julius Caesar
Julius Caesar is the one of the famous Roman generals. Many may recognize this
name from the great works of Shakespeare. Before the great works of Shakespeare,
Julius Caesar was famous in his Roman city which. Julius Caesar was a dictator that
turned the Roman republic to the Roman Empire. Even though the life time of Julius
Caesartook place in 100 BC 44 BC, people everywhere will mention Caesar s name
and legacy. For starters, Julius Caesar s time was very different from today life.
People did not get married because they were in love with the each other most of
the time. The reason people in Roman time got married was for perfect children.
Babies that were not fit or unhealthy during this time would be thrown out and left
for dead. According to Phillip Freeman, Roman families had to keep the first girl
that is born and all healthy boys. (Freeman 23). During this time there were no public
schools, only private schools and tutors that came to the house. Julius Caesar had a
tutor who taught him and is sisters. Children that did not behave during this time
would be whipped by their teachers (Freeman 24). When boys turned 15 or 16 they
would be considered an adult. Another thing different about this time is that
crucifixions took place. Caesar would do crucifixions to pirates (Freeman 40).
Crucifixions would start off with a man being flogged, humiliated, and weakened.
After being beaten the criminal would

This paper will examine the legal status of the so called Islamic State with the aim
of determining whether it is recognised as having international legal personality.
Focus will also be placed on the principles of international legal personality more
broadly by providing a critique on the effectiveness of these concepts in international
law. Firstly a brief overview of the Islamic Statewill be given outlining their stated
goals and information important to supporting a claim of international legal
personality. Secondly we will look at the classes of established legal persons before
going into each in more detail. A major consideration of this research is whether the
Islamic State could be recognised as a State in international law. In answering this
question the traditional criteria for statehood set out in Article I of the Montevideo
Convention on Rights and Duties of States 1933 (hereinafter Montevideo
Convention) will be examined along with the relevant authorities and recent
developments in regards to the criteria for statehood. Secondly the consequences of
where the Islamic State fits within the international legal framework will be
discussed. Finally the essay will look at the effectiveness of the concept of legal
personality in international law particularly in the context of the conclusion reached
in relation to the Islamic State. The writings of a number of authoritative international

developed to optimize water use for agriculture crops. The system has a distributed
wireless sensor node network of soil moisture, temperature sensors and humidity
sensor placed in the soil. Energy conservation is a very critical issue in wireless
sensor networks. In this paper a TDMA based MAC protocols are used to conserve
the energy in wireless sensor networks which is used in an irrigation system. An
algorithm is developed with threshold values of moisture level, temperature of the
soil and humidity sensor that are programmed into microcontroller based gateway to
control irrigation in a field. Also two methods based on TDMA scheduling are used.
The first one is direct communication method, in which each node transmitted the
data directly to the sink node and other one is data aggregation method in which
nodes are grouped into clusters to save energy.

27. Essay about North by Northwest, by Alfred Hitchcock
Alfred Hitchcock s film North by Northwest (1959) is famed as a classic man on the
run thriller, following protagonist Roger Thornhill as he flees across state lines in a
mad dash to save his life and unravel the mystery to his extraordinary predicament.
However, mid way through the film Thornhill s quandary is further complicated by
the introduction of Eve Kendall, a beautiful yet mysterious woman he encounters on a
train during his escape from the authorities and people trying to kill him. During the
dining room scene on the train, Hitchcock expertly uses the camera to convey the
characters thoughts and feelings. Interestingly, in a film that has several sequences
with complicated cinematography and editing, the dining car scene is... Show more

Once the flirtations between the two in intensify, Hitchcock transitions into using
close shots, beginning when Eve discloses her bribe arranging Thornhill being
seated with her, and her subsequent reveal that she knows Thornhill wanted for
murder. The use of the close shot provides a better, more intimate view of their
expressions as they banter back and forth and the sexual innuendos ramp up.
Thornhill s thoughts are particularly evident across his face as he changes from
showing interest in the attractive woman across from him, to tension at being
recognized by her, to unabashed glee at the prospect of sleeping with same said
beautiful woman, and finally to alarm as he learns police are boarding the train. In
contrast to Thornhill s expressive looks, Hitchcock shows Eve s as being more
controlled and understated. Throughout her linguistic dance with Thornhill, Eve
manages to maintain an air of surety about herself, revealing only those pieces of
information that she wants him to know. She manages to exude a sense of cool
certainty and control during arguably the most sexually suggestive moment of the
film: in the only profile shot of the scene, the camera shows Eve as she slowly
blows out the flame on the match Thornhill uses to light her cigarette, clasping his
hand as she does so. This aura of calm calculation gives the sense that she is in
complete control, no doubt due

Not Available In Physical Format As of the moment, The Amazing Stockpiling
Challenge is available only as a digital product. Dan F. Sullivan says this allows
him to lower the price of the guide and help would be preppers to get immediate
access to it at the same time. With that in mind, it may be disappointing for some
people who don t like digital products to find that purchasing a hard copy edition of
the guide is not an option yet.... Our Conclusions Overall, we believe The
Amazing Stockpiling Challenge is worth checking out. It s more for beginners,
but semi seasoned preppers could still get valuable information from this guide
and the bonus reports that come with it. One of the best things about the Amazing
Stockpiling Challenge is that it s an easy read, which is good news for those who
don t like to read books, and everything you need to know to prepare for a crisis is
already in the eBook. We also liked that it s full of useful tips and methods that you
can implement right away and there are no filler content, difficult words or
unreasonable demands inside. All you really have to do is read, understand, and
30. Similarities Between The Bell Jar Sylvia Plath
It is exceedingly common for humans to use fictional writing in order to express
their hardships in life. It is clear to researchers that Sylvia Plath wrote The Bell Jar
for this sole purpose. Plath faced many struggles in her short life, all of which were
explained in her novel. There are a plethora of studies that easily show the
similarities between The Bell Jars Esther Greenwood and Sylvia Plath. They both
faced trauma, depression, and issues with self worth. The unrelenting pressure of
the two women s rise to success ultimately lead to both of their demise. The beliefs
and struggles of Esther in The Bell Jar reflect those of Sylvia Plath. Esther s
constant battle with mental illness is an allusion to that of Sylvia Plath. Sylvia and
Esther both dealt with what was described as depression. In The Bell Jar, Esther
goes to a mental facility so that she can recover from a failed suicide attempt. Both

Neither Plath nor Greenwood became extremely popular before the end of their
existences. Plath s writing only grew in popularity after her death. Once Esther is
reborn , she gains notoriety. The connection between these two women s lives
shows when the author of The Bell Jar says Plath uses her life as a basis for The
Bell Jar, and Esther is meant to represent herself and her struggles. ( The Bell Jar
3). Research also proves that Plat and Esther were both seen as rising stars . They
were both set up for success at young ages. Strongly believed to be on the path to
become someone well known for her work, Plath was Dubbed the golden girl by
teachers and peers [...] She filled notebooks with stories, villanelles, sonnets, and
rondels, shaping her poems with studious precision and winning many awards (
Sylvia Plath ). Esther and Plath were both expected to become famous. Unfortunately,
neither received the stardom that was truly
31. Management and Assumptions
Assumption based planning in project management is a post planning method, that
helps companies to deal with uncertainty. It is used to identify the most important
assumptions in a company s business plans, test these assumptions and think of
hedging actions and what if scenarios. Conventional business planningmethods
operate on the premise that managers can extrapolate future results from a well
understood base of information from the past. However, for new businesses and
projects this way of planning often does not comply. Most of the time there is no
past knowledge and if there s any past knowledge available, predicting the future out
of it is nearly impossible. The dilemma is that corporate planning techniques often

What are we going to do if we re not certain about the size of the market by the end of
September next year? We assume that there the product is not very sensitive to the
consumer price, how can we show that we re right? Sometimes the mere identification
of assumptions immediately leads to a change in the business plan. It is for that
reason that ABP should be strongly interwoven into the whole business planning
process. Implicit and explicit assumptions Assumptions according to Wikipedia are
propositions that are assumed, i.e., treated within the context of a discussion as if it
were known to be true or false . But although the Wikipedia definition of an
assumption is correct, a better definition of assumptions in the context of business
planning and ABP is given by RAND. An assumption is an assertion about some
characteristic of the future that underlies the current operations or plans of an
organization There are multiple types of assumptions. The most known derivation is
between implicit and explicit assumptions. Another classification used in ABP is the
derivation between primary and secondary assumptions. This latter categorization is
discussed in the Critical assumption planning Wiki. The two classifications are not
mutually exclusive; this means that an assumption can be both an explicit and a
primary assumption, while another assumption can be implicitly derived. Explicit
assumptions are assumptions of which the
32. Coercive Power In Saving Private Ryan
The piece of media that I chose for my human geography 1101 class project is Saving
Private Ryan. This movie was directed by Steven Spielberg and was released on July
24, 1998. This successful film won numerous awards and reached a box office of
over 480 million dollars. This film s time period was based during World War II in
1944. The reason why I chose this action film for my project is because it s one of
my favorite war movies and relates to numerous concepts learned from class like
territory, conflict, and coercive power very well.
The film begins with Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) and his troops successfully
infiltrating the shores of Normandy and being given a new mission thereafter. Their
mission was to find and send Private James Ryan (Matt Damon) home which is what
the whole film revolves around. The reason Private Ryan was to be sent ... Show more

Coercive power is the ability to have influence or to impose one s will using force,
conflict, or violence. This war movie is a clear example of coercive power as force
and violence is being used in an effort to resolve conflict(s) between the Axis and
Allied forces. The Invasion of Normandy which is commonly referred to as D Day
is the first example of coercive power. From the moment they landed on the shores
of Normandy, they were getting shot from every angle and blood quickly covered
the water. The next example of coercive power is the Battle of Ramelle. This battle
is what most people will remember after watching this movie as it is very action
packed, intense, and the most emotional of all of the battle scenes. The scene where
one the U.S. troop members had to fight a German soldier hand to hand in a room
because he ran out of ammunition was definitely the most intense scene of all. Also,
watching Captain Miller getting shot by the German soldier known as Steamboat
Willie that he could have killed earlier, but let go was a heartbreaking
33. Vladimir Lenin s Role In Russian History
Vladimir Lenin played a very important role in Russia s history. Lenin had almost
the same exact views about government as Karl Marx did. During Lenin s rule he
made decisions that really changed the nation. However, Lenin not only played an
important rule in Russian history but in universal history as well. He has been known
as the greatest revolutionary leader behind Karl Marx, the one who opened up
everyone s eyes to communism (Vladimir LeninBiography).
Vladimir Ilich Ulyanov was Lenin s birth name. He took on the last name Lenin
when he was working under the table with his government party. Lenin was born in
Simbirsk, Russia, on April 22, 1870. Simbirsk was renamed Ulyanovsk in his honor.

He believed that only a revolution caused by the working class people would help
the government, but the others believed in a revolution of the rich (Vladimir Lenin).
Lenin believed that the working class needed to cause the revolution, because they
carried the country on their backs. Without the working class the country wouldn t
prosper. The working class consisted of merchants, soldiers, peasants, farmers, etc. If
Russia took out that class of people Russia would soon deteriorate. The working
class was very vital to Russia and that s why Lenin believed that they needed to cause

34. Martin Luther s Influence In European History
Martin Luther was born in Germany in 1483, Martin Luther turned into a standout
amongst the most powerful figures in Christian history when he started the Protestant
Reformation in the sixteenth century. He raised doubt about a percentage of the
fundamental principles of Roman Catholicism, and his adherents soon split from the
Roman Catholic Churchto start the Protestant convention. In 1501, he selected to
attend the University of Enfurt. His family wanted him to be a lawyer. Yet, Luther
promised to turn into a monk. Martin Lutherexamined the New and the Old
Testaments and began to make inquiries about confidence. In 1523, Luther distributed
a vital chip away at transient power. In 1508, he was sent to Wittenburg to become a
religion teacher. Scholar Martin Luther left an everlastingly changed in Christianity

following paragraph I will explain his accomplishments, his influence in history, and
his importance in European history. He was a religious leader who accomplishments

Luther s activity was not a rebellion against the church but rather a development for
change inside. In 1519, Luther in a question with Johann Eck straightforwardly
embraced conventions that were certain in his proposals, and he prevented the power
from claiming the congregation in religious matters. Martin Luther made the Bible
accessible to the society. He influenced religious beliefs throughout Europe. Luther

that is used for treating high blood pressure. Nerves from the adrenergic nervous
system travel from the spinal cord to arteries where they release norepinephrine.
Norepinephrine attaches to adrenergic receptors on arteries and causes the arteries

something to distract people from their own dull lives. Society will believe nearly
anything that is presented in a news article, no matter how absurd. Breaking news
seems to be shared constantly and is readily available at any given moment.
Nevertheless, this rapid swarm of new stories and facts begs the question how
reliable are these news outlets that are providing coverage of events around the
world? Do news sources invest time and work into their reports, or do they release
reports teeming with bias and unproven facts solely for money and satisfactory

Origination of issue: Binder, David. A 23 Hour Drama . The New York Times , 6
Sept. 1972.: The headline stands out from the rest of the article, for it provokes
sensitivity in the readers. Bias by emphasis is exemplified as the writer continually
includes details about the evil motives of the Arabs, showing the left leaning value of
community based on ethics. Rather than simply stating Palestinian involvement, the
article specifically mentions the invasion of the Olympic Village by the Arabs ,
targeting the Arabs. The usage of phrases like armed with automatic rifles , broke
into , and seized once again point out the nefariousness of the Arabs. The repetition of
German involvement in the negotiations with the Arabs emphasizes that society is a
support system, and begins to examine the impact on society. As is typical of left

38. Tradeoffs Between Relational and Object-Oriented
Database...
Discuss the tradeoffs between relational and object oriented database management
systems
1) Stating Position
The object oriented DBMS is superior to the relational database on some specific
counts, primarily because it can satisfy the complex demands of the market today
better than the any other. Secondly while the relational data base stores data as
tables, the object model stores data as objects and creates associations. This can
create a multiple set of attributes for each object such that the data base is more
flexible to the requirements that may be housed for different sets of data having both
similar and dissimilar characteristics. The paradigms then are developed for each set
of common characteristics and unique characteristics of the objects which is not
possible in a relational database that has a very rigid structure. (Bruegge, 2004)
Earlier the heterogeneous systems integration is a major issue. Therefore it has to be
considered if the system proposed is amenable to multiple platforms and will give the
same results. There are many applications available to enforce this, but it is to be
borne in mind that in a data management system many components have to be
integrated with the system and the layering of these components becomes critical.
(Thuraisingham, 2001) But the requirements today have gone beyond the traditional
DBMS and the system is expected too seamlessly perform varied functions like
tracking functions, data analysis and reporting, vendor
39. Amazon s Effect On The Internet
Background
Due to the recent technology changes and rise of the internet thereafter, the book
industry has drastically changed in the past decade shifting from hardcover books
to electronically available journals, articles, encyclopedias, eBooks etc. Items that
used to be available at book stores and libraries only, are now readily available on
the internet. With the shift towards the internet also came devices such as
smartphones and tablets that consumers can now use to display any information
that used to be only available on computers and books before then. This new
technology allowed for the publishing, releasing, and selling of electronically
available eBooks via devices such as the Kindle or the Nook created by Amazon.
Due eBooks being drastically cheaper to produce and rapidly increasing markets and
interests among consumers, Amazon created a marketing strategy that significantly
lowered the price of eBooks to $9.99 (Case 1:12 cv 02826 UA, 2011). With Amazon
controlling the majority market i.e. having a monopoly in the e reader and eBook
industry, publishers were upset that they were no longer controlling the market
themselves and were afraid that the low prices would become an industry standard.
Therefore, five of the top 6 publishers in the United States (Hachette Book Group,
Inc., HarperCollins Publishers, Macmillan Publishers, Penguin Group, Inc., and
Simon Schuster, Inc.) decided to do something about it; they decided to create a price
fixing scheme with the
40. Symbolism In Shutter Island
I agree with this statement that texts which deserve attention are those that challenge
our thinking. Martin Scorsese s 2010 masterpiece, Shutter Island, challenges our
perception on the human mind. Scorsese s film deserves our attention in the way that
it creatively employs plot twists, uses symbolism and how it portrays the complexity
of trauma within the human mind. As a psychological thriller, Shutter Island captivates
the audience, taking us on the same journey that Teddy Daniels experiences in his
quest to find the truth.
Plot twists are creatively applied to Shutter Island. Presented at the start of the
film, when Teddy Daniels arrives on Shutter Island, Teddy Daniels is a U.S
Marshall. This conveys that he is solving the case of a missing patient who had
escaped. Most importantly, he is searching for the killer of his wife, Andrew
Laeddis, who is supposed to be a patient on the island. To start the paranoia, Chuck
Aule says What if while you were looking into them, they were looking into you?
Chuck identifies the paranoia to unconsciously throw the audience off guard and
Teddy Daniels then seeks to discover the disturbing truths of the institution. As the
truth is clarified, the plot of the film seems to be apparent. As the core plot of
Shutter Island is to find out Who is 67? said by Chuck Aule, it is not until the end
that everything is clarified. Teddy Daniels is in fact the missing patient 67 who is
Andrew Laeddis. He then is disturbed with the truth that
41. General Mcauliffe s Defeat In The Battle Of Bastogne
In the midst of Battle of the Bulge, the Germans needed to establish one last major
offensive attack in order to seize the Belgian town of Bastogne and to push the Allied
front line west of France. However, the United States and Allied Forces were already
making efforts in retaining key intersections of Bastogne that provided the only
means of mounted maneuver through the dense and mountainous Ardennes Forest. In
an attempt to prevent casualties of war, General Heinrich Freiherr, commander of the
German forces, sent an ultimatum to the American commander of the 101st Airborne
Division, Brigadier General Anthony C. McAuliffe. The written demand ordered to
surrender in two hours or U.S. troops would face total annihilation from six
battalions of armor and artillery. The U.S. general replied with one word that

size. If an egg is submerged in corn syrup, then the egg will shrivel. If an egg is
submerged in a salt solution, then the egg will shrivel. The hypothesis concerning
the egg submerged in distilled water, was supported. The egg grew by 2.5 cm and
weighed 12.5 grams more than it did in the beginning. The hypothesis concerning
the egg being submerged in the corn syrup was also supported. The egg shrunk
down to a significant size, the egg ended up being 22.42 grams lighter and a cm
smaller than it s original measurements. The last hypothesis, the one using salt water,
was refuted. The students said the egg would shrink, like the corn syrup, when in
reality it grew like the distilled water egg, in the end it had 13.19 extra grams and 2

students learned a great deal about diffusion and osmosis. The eggs in the distilled

45. Food Security And Food Insecurity In The United States
Executive summary. In 2016 there was a slight increase in the number of households
that have food insecurity as a result of the fact that these households have a higher
number of children and thus they cannot be able to feed them properly. The number
currently stands at 41.2 million; this represents the number of people that do not have
food security. It involves both adult and kids. Food insecurity can be attributed to
the fact that there are less resources that the family can access so as to ensure food
security within their families. This number of food insecure families have resulted
into growth of street families since some of the kids and the families may go to the
streets to beg so that they can be able get food. The United Statesis considered to be
among the super powers in the World and one of the first worlds. It is therefore
important to find out why is the United States ensuring that there is food security for
all it s in the country. There should policies and regulations that will be passed so as
to ensure that the families that come from underprivileged situations will be able to
get enough food that will be able to sustain them. The agencies that have the mandate
of ensuring that there is food security in the United States. There should be policies

46. Martin Luther King Speech Analysis
Throughout Martin Luther King Jr s. speech, he uses violence as a form of getting
his perspective and view across to his audience. King uses violence in order to
persuade the audience for other reasons differing from Barack Obama s view on
violence. Martin Luther king brings to light the amount of damage that violence is
causing in order to pursue the audience when saying I am mindful that only
yesterday in Philadelphia, Mississippi, young people seeking to secure the right to
vote were brutalized and murdered. And only yesterday more than 40 houses of
worship in the State of Mississippi alone were bombed or burned because they
offered a sanctuary to those who would not accept segregation. (pg.1). Although
this seems upsetting, King chooses to bring it to light in order to open societies
eyes and convince them that violence is destroying the world day by day. King
says in his speech I believe that wounded justice, lying prostrate on the blood
flowing streets of our nations, can be lifted from this dust of shame to reign supreme
among the children of men. (pg.2). When King says this, it automatically gives
society a reason for automatically thinking that indeed we have violence in this
world, and things should be changed immediately. King brings this to the attention of
society that he believes that we as a community can change and turn into something
better. King uses words like brutalized and murdered to convince and persuade the
audience into having a different view on why violence isn t okay while Obama uses
his view on violence to persuade his audience in a different manner. Barack Obama
brings up the fact that non violence would not have put a stop to Hitler s armies
just like negotiation between the U.S. and al Qaeda s leaders wouldn t have made
them put their arms down and act any differently (pg.6). Barack Obama is trying to
open up societies eyes and give them a different viewpoint on his beliefs and how he
thinks situations like the tragic experience that Jews had to face in Auschwitz should
be handled. In addition to the previous statement, Barack Obama also talks about the
fact that all nations must embrace the role that milliteries with a clear mandate, order
of commision, can have in order

implied to anything, moreover when it is already concerning politics and elections. ...

This statement did not just come from us but from the research and survey we have
conducted.
Political dynasty has already been long present in the political structure of the
Philippines. It can be manifested when a family member runs, and most often than
not, wins the election and his position is soon succeeded by one of his family
members as well. This cycle goes on and on and the scope of the family s territory
becomes wider and wider every election for the members can run on different places.
This is often practiced by rich and influential families; families who have been
political since their forefathers and have followed the tradition as well.
Political dynasties started to emerge just after the Philippine Revolution happened.
It was also when the First Republic of the Philippines was established. The
Philippine Revolution was the fight between the people of the Philippines and the
Spanish colonizers. According to the book The Making of a Filipino which is
written by Renato Constantino, political dynasty was believed to be first recorded
way back in the pre Magellanic period where the rulers where the datu, raja, and
maharlika. They passed on their title to their male
49. Women s Role In The American Corrections System
The American corrections system has many facets to it as well as many challenges
that each and every individual within its system must learn to cope with. Not
everyone who is in some sector of the corrections system can deal with what
corrections entails because the life that they led outside of the correctionssystem isn t
always the same. This can especially be said for women who find themselves part of
the corrections system simply because of the role that women generally face within
their homes.
Corrections is defined as, the variety of programs, services, facilities, and
organizations responsible for the management of individuals who have been accused
or convicted or criminal offenses (Clear, 2013). This includes corrections officers, ...

corrections system. There were three principles found to be of importance for this
time of prison reform and they were, (1) separation of women prisoners from men,
(2) provision of differential care, and (3) management of women s prisons by
female staff (Clear, 2013). Basically the concern was female prisoners to be house
separately from the male prisoners in a facility ran by female staff.
In state prisons it is estimated that women account for nearly twenty five percent of
the workforce (Clear, 2013). However in the Federal Bureau of Prisons it is estimated
that women only account for approximately thirteenth percent of the officers (Clear,
2013). Out of the total population of prison inmates, only approximately seven
percent are female whereas the population of female jail inmates is approximately
twelve percent.
An issue that is of concern is the safety of female officers when working within a
male prison facility. In 2013, a female officer at the Arizona State Prison Complex in
Winslow was brutally beaten by two inmates to the point of being placed in the
hospital. Officer Benavidez was escorting 50 unrestrained male inmates when two of
them inmates proceeded to brutally attack her. According to a statement from her
boyfriend, the first one hit her and knocked her out. He climbed on top of her and
continued to pound her head. There was another one, and
50. Analysis Of Ben Bernanke s Global Saving Glut View Of...
Introduction This essay will discuss the Ben Bernanke s global saving glut view of
global imbalances, the causes related to it, the possible policies applicable and its
extent of reliability in comparison to other views, such as the Borio and Disyatat s
excess elasticity one.
To well address this concept, the current account and concepts related to it will be
explained with the big deficits and surpluses issues that have arisen since 1990s.
Then Bernanke s thoughts and the extent to which his view can be connected to the
economic crisis will be presented using both economic theory and other economists
ideas.
The current account and the global saving glut
The current account is one of the components of the Balance of Payment together
with the capital and financial account and the reserve assets account. This represents
the difference between a country s savings and its investment and it is defined as the
sum of the payments of goods and services bought from foreigners, net income from
abroad and net current transfers. When the current account is in deficit, it means that
the country s net sales abroad value is negative, while it is in surplus when this value
is positive. The current account must balance, so surplus of one nation means deficits
of another.
There are different approaches to determine the current account. In this essay it is
worth to explain the saving investment balance approach since Bernanke s saving
glut idea is based on it. The identity for
51. Analysis Of James Joyce s Dubliners Dubliners
Bria LeeAnn Coleman
ENG 299
Dr. Mark Facknitz
October 12, 2015
Epiphanies in James Joyce s Dubliners Characters in Dubliners experience
revelations in their every day lives which James Joyce called epiphanies. Merriam
Webster defines an epiphany as an illuminating discovery, realization, or disclosure.
While word epiphany has a religious connotation, these epiphanies characters in
Dubliners experience do not bring new experiences and possibility of reform that
epiphanies usually have. Joyce s epiphanies allow characters to better understand
their circumstances, generally full of sadness and grief. After these revelations,
characters go back to their lives with acceptance but frustration. Dubliners fail to see
their situation fully, which is the reason they lacked reaching their full potential.
Dubliners is full of characters in lethargic positions that Joyce saw as the fate of all
Dubliners. In each story, he gave each individual the possibility of an epiphany, but
often the characters failed to break through and see their ability to change their
situations, because of this, some of these epiphanies occur only on the narrative level,
showing the reader that the story s character missed their epiphany. In fact, in The
Dead , the scene is set on/around January 6th, which is the Feast of the Epiphany.
The Feast of the Epiphany celebrates the manifestation of Christ s divinity to the
Magi. The Dead is also Joyce s last chance to make clarity of an epiphany. Will this
52. The Invention Of The Airplane
Airplanes are sometimes considered one of the most overlooked inventions. This
is often because people overlook the power of airplanes. It is amazing to think how
two brothers created something used by thousands of people a day. Airplanes are
usually the quickest method of transportation for people traveling long distances.
They can also be used to travel across large bodies of water, whereas, ships would
take a much longer time. The invention of the airplane was not easy. Airplanes
were also not safe, originally. Over time, though, airplane travel has become one of
the most safest methods for travel. One of the most greatest twentieth century
inventions was none other than the airplane. After its invention, the growth of
people using airplanes and the quality of airplanes grew rapidly. This was due to
the innovations during the two world wars. Airplanes not only help travelers, but
they also have created an industry. Some examples of airplane industries include
aircraft construction companies, engine makers, general equipment makers, and
many others ( The Invention of the Airplane and the Rise of the Airplane Industry
for Military and Civilian Purposes ). Men have dreamed of flying for centuries
before the first airplane was even created. Leonardo da Vinci has drawn pictures of
airplane like vehicles even during the late 1400s. During the late 1700s, the first hot
air balloon soared over Paris. This was the first example of some sort of vehicle that
flew. During the
53. The Culture Of Iran Is A Major Element Of Cultural
Competence
Cultural awareness is a major element of cultural competence as defined by the
National Center for Cultural Competence (NCCC). It is the first and foundational
element because without it, it is virtually impossible to acquire the attitudes, skills,
and knowledge that are essential to cultural competence (Goode). The focus of the
paper will be to discuss the culture of Iran. Iran is located within the Middle East
centered just between the Caspian Sea and Persian Gulf. Even though Iran is not
one of the largest countries, it is roughly smaller than Alaska in size. Iran has a long
history of conflict dating all the way to the time of the Romans. A multitude of
leaders dating back before the Roman era and earlier have taken the responsibility of
the task of leading Iran. Throughout the years, Iran was involved in many conflicts
while still today holding its own against other countries in the world. Iran is located
within the Middle East with the bordering countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Iraq,
Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Turkey. As early as the period of the Romans, Iran had
many types of leaders, conflicts and enemies in the world. Their government structure
is similar to most countries such as the United States and Britain. The only difference
they have one person that has the power over almost everything, which is the
Supreme Leader. Their untrained military, imported and outdated weapons, and a
small military force compared to most of the larger countries of
54. Descriptive Art Of Art
I stand on the dense carpeted floor barefoot. My toes curl and uncurl through the
fibers as I bounce slightly to the music filling the room. It has a strong bass that
somehow simultaneously calms me down and makes me excited. I fiddle with the
brush in my hand. The bristles are half coated in cadmium red acrylic paint. The
canvas in front of me is half bare and waiting for me to add more color. I dip my
brush in my paint cup. It is an old thick plastic cup permanently stained with
various other paints after years of use. I enjoy how worn it is though. It shows
how long I have been painting and feels almost like an art piece in itself. Holding
the very end of the brush handle I roughly add the watery red paint just above the
center of the canvas. It drips down onto an old trifold I always place underneath
my easel for that very reason. I fill in the roughly drawn lips on the canvas. I wipe
the wet brush on my thighs, since I do not want to ruin a towel. I switch it around
in the water cup until it is clean, and then place it into a similar cup that I use to dry
my brushes in bristle side up. I grab a similar brush from table behind me that has a
bit of a rounder edge. I dip that bush in cadmium yellow. The yellow acts as the
unnatural light source on the left side of my piece. I wished to replicate the cruddy
yellow light that comes from a cheap light bulb. Once satisfied I do the same with
that brush as I did the last. The next brush I drown in a half and half mixture of
