Release management has played a critical function at United Airlines, but it has been hindered by manual processes and spreadsheets. As a part of an IT-wide reliability effort, the company has transformed the role that IT release management plays in the organization. To begin, United performed a governance model and maturity assessment to formally define the service offering, standards and processes. It launched a pilot to establish an onshore/offshore release model, shifting the role of the release team in the process to ensure the right type of work was fulfilled. United moved from multiple spreadsheets to a centralized dashboard to track and manage releases and engagement levels. As a part of the overall transformation, many decisions were needed to ensure success and data was heavily leveraged across all main decision points. In this session, you will learn how transparency around metrics and a strong governance program is transforming United’s IT release team. You will also see how CA Continuous Delivery Director is helping United’s transformation.

This presentation on DevOps will help you understand what is DevOps, how DevOps came to being, stages and tools of DevOps, implementation of DevOps, DevOps practices, benefits of DevOps approach and at the end, you will also see a use case of DevOps approach by Etsy. DevOps is a software engineering culture that unifies the development and operations team, under an umbrella of tools to automate every stage. The benefits of DevOps outweigh the potential difficulties. Aligning the two transparency-limited silos ensures that systems are delivered faster, and also reduces risks in production changes through nonfunctional and automated testing, as well as shorter developmental iterations. The DevOps approach automates the service management for the support of operational objectives and improves understanding of the layers in the production environment stack. In turn, this helps prevent and resolve production issues. Now, lets deep dive into these slides and understand what actually DevOps is.

A simple formula for becoming Lean, Agile and unlocking high performance team...Rowan Bunning
In an effort to become Agile and/or Lean, many organisations in Australia are attempting to design their own custom Agile process from Agile and Lean principles at the time at which they are least qualified to do so - before they have started.
This might appear to make sense if you set out to 'implement the Agile Methodology' * or 'do Agile' *. After all, aren't you acting in the adaptable spirit of Agile to pick and choose which practices you adopt and how you implement them? Every organisation is unique, right?
In reality, organisations taking this approach, tend to pick the easy 'low hanging fruit' that are easy for them to adopt over those that offer the most improvement over the status quo. In pulling up stumps early and 'wimping out' of the harder organisational changes, such organisations unconsciously stifle their teams' ability to reach for high performance and limit the organisation's ability to go beyond "good" to be truly "great". They may also be missing the essential understanding that Agile practices were designed to work as an inter-dependent system of disciplined practice. As Kent Beck put it: "No single practice works well by itself, each needs the other practices to keep them in balance. If you follow 80% of the process you get 20% of the benefits."
If, however, you set out to be a high performing organisation, this may not be adequate.
So...
What if there was a way to avoid a half-baked 'Agile-ish' approach producing half-baked outcomes? What if you could get there by "standing on the shoulders of giants"?
What if there were a simple formula for becoming truly Agile?
(Genuinely living the Agile Software Development values and principles.)
What if this simple formula also implicitly implemented the core principles of Lean and did so in a way based not on repetitive Lean Manufacturing of physical objects but on a type of Lean that is much more appropriate for complex knowledge work and systems development?
What if this formula also implemented the management/leadership approaches suggested for a Complex problem domain as per the Cynefin framework?
What if this formula enabled rapid cycles of learning about both:- what the customer really needs and- what techniques are required to rise to the challenge of delivering it using contemporary technologies?
What if this formula was proven to scale and could support you through the Agile Journey from pilot to whole-organisation transformation?
What if this formula was self-correcting in terms of both your project outcome and your processes themselves?
What if there was a way to unlock the full synergistic potential of teams and realise truly high performance?
Today’s cutting edge companies have release cycles measured in days instead of months. This agility is enabled by the DevOps practice of continuous delivery, which automates building, testing, and deploying all code changes. This type of automation will help you catch bugs sooner and accelerate developer productivity. In this session we will share our AWS engineers embed security practices in DevOps, and discuss how you can use AWS services to securely enable DevOps agility in your organization.

Observability has emerged as one of the hottest topics on the DevOps landscape. Organizations seek to improve visibility into their cloud infrastructure and applications and identify production issues that may negatively impact #customerexperience.
➡️ But what are some of the best practices for scaling observability for modernapplications?
➡️ What challenges are #cloudplatforms facing?
Explore how to overcome the challenges and unlock speed, observability, and automation across your DevOps lifecycle.
In this session we’ll leave the need for performance a foregone conclusion and take a whirlwind tour through the complexity of modern Internet architectures. The complexities lead to evil optimization problems and significant challenges troubleshooting production issues to a speedy and successful end.
Starting with the simple facts that you can’t fix what you can’t see and you can’t improve what you can’t measure, we’ll discuss what needs monitoring and why. We’ll talk about unlikely allies in the fight for time and budget to instrument systems, applications and processes for observability.
You’ll leave the session with a better understanding of what it looks like to troubleshoot the storm of a malfunctioning large architecture and some tools and techniques you can use to not be swallowed by the Kraken.
How to Move from Monitoring to Observability, On-Premises and in a Multi-Clou...Splunk
With the acceleration of customer and business demands, site reliability engineers and IT Ops analysts now require operational visibility into their entire architecture, something that traditional APM tools, dev logging tools, and SRE tools aren’t equipped to provide. Observability enables you to inspect and understand your IT stack on premises and in the cloud(s); It’s no longer about whether your system works (monitoring), but being able to task why it is not working? (Observability). This presentation will outline key steps to take to move from monitoring to observability.
DevSecOps is a very loaded term and it includes many topics. Despite what some will lead you to believe, DevSecOps is not just an integration of security testing tools. Nor is it merely a focus on achieving security quality attributes on CI and CD. DevSecOps is beyond the automatizing security testing and there are common misconceptions and roadblocks on how you can establish it successfully.
Learning Objectives:
1: Identify key principles of DevSecOps and see how it relates to DevOps principles.
2: Analyze common pitfalls and see where integration security takes part in DevSecOps.
3: Demonstrate how to do “Continuous Security” by using a lifecycle approach.

More Than Monitoring: How Observability Takes You From Firefighting to Fire P...DevOps.com
For some, observability is just a hollow rebranding of monitoring, for others it’s monitoring on steroids. But what if we told you observability is the new way to find out why—not just if—your distributed system or application isn’t working as expected? Today, we see that traditional monitoring approaches can fall short if a system or application doesn’t adequately externalize its state.
This is truer as workloads move into the cloud and leverage ephemeral technologies, such as microservices and containers. To reach observability, IT and DevOps teams need to correlate different sources from logs, metrics, traces, events and more. This becomes even more challenging when defining the online revenue impact of a failed container—after all, this is what really matters to the business.
This webinar will cover:
The differences between observability and monitoring
Why it is a bigger challenge in a multicloud and containerized world
How observability results in less firefighting and more fire prevention
How new platforms can help gain observability (on premises and in the cloud) for containers, microservices and even SAP or mainframes
How Small Team Get Ready for SRE (public version)Setyo Legowo
How Urbanindo small team engineering team implement Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) in their daily work life and why we choose SRE instead of ordinary DevOps.

Connected Project Management in the Oil, Gas & Chemicals Industry Ashwin Menon
Gas & Chemicals is a capital intensive industry that has as a fundamental business requirement to increase project profitability for all capital projects. Why? Most companies are experiencing:
Increasing shareholder expectations and compliance requirements
A higher than acceptable rate of project budget overruns, delays, and even project failures
Increasing project complexity and shortening of delivery dates for projects
An increasing level of fragmented process and data management
The most effective approach to achieving this requirement of increased project profitability is by gaining improved insight and control and optimized process efficiency within each of the capital projects and across the investment portfolio.
This approach also drives a reduction in project risk through improved transparency and data consistency. As a result, each capital project team is able to achieve better quality and faster response times enabled via enhanced process standardization and flexibility.
SAP is committed to partnering with its customers as they transform into digital Oil, Gas & Chemical companies by helping:
Reimagine business models to find new revenue and profit sources by offering innovative approaches to addressing market challenges
Reimagine business processes and use digital technology to optimize business outcomes by converging information and operational technologies

1.0 Introduction
Singh, Shirah, and Barber Financial Holdings LLC. continues to grow its business, increasing their dependency on information technogy. The firm has reached a point where a more flexible, scalable, straightforward infrastructure, and easily managed applications are required for sucessful business practices. A solution like Amazon Web Services (AWS) can provide the computer power, storage, and other resources needed as the firm expands.
Solution
s of this magnitude do require a considerable amount of upfront investment, but will provide minimal cost for subsequential years reducing overall capital expenses. This solution will also enable minimal effort when moving applications to the cloud, minimizing support, to include administrative cost while retaining performance, security, reliability, and data integrity. 1.1 Company at a Glance
Singh, Shirah, and Barber Financial Holdings LLC., has drastically increased the number of clients and accounts over the past couple of years. This growth prompted the need for more qualified staff, additional offices and space, and newer communication technologies to facilitate services and improved management. The firm has acquired several buildings in various cities which are ready to be outfitted with network infrastructure, user workstations, peripherals and software applications. 1.2 Challenges
With just one present location in XYZ city growth in its industry is challenging, therefore the opening of several branch locations in various cities coupled with the data migration to a cloud service has become its number one project. The firm’s current infrastructure is limited, it does not currently have a full scale WAN and remote access (VPN), only a local LAN through the major local ISP is employed. All backups are stored onsite with tape copies sent to a cold off site location. Databases with all financial information are stored in the local server and there are no true access control restrictions. Additionally, there is only one system administrator performing all major database tasks and network functions.
Financial health is one of the most protected types of digital content. Finding ways to store, secure, and manage such data in this ever changing world of computing is a challenge. In order for the firm to grow and blossom, a large and fast LAN/WAN network is needed. Such network must provide access to internal resources via secure methods of authentication and also from the outside by a secure web interface client. VPN capabilities for traveling and visiting staff should provide a secure connection to internal resources. Access to the network and network shares must be tightly secured based on departmental roles. All databases will be kept in separate servers and backups will be conducted routinely (Weekly, Monthly; incremental/full). Access to database tables will be based on individual approval; single sign on authenti.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.
