A 4-year-old girl sustained an injury to her left eye after running into a tree while tobogganing. She presented with swelling, redness, pain on eye movements, and double vision. CT scans revealed a wooden foreign body in her orbit. During surgery, a 30mm wooden fragment was removed, along with drainage of a retrobulbar abscess. Cultures grew Pantoea agglomerans, Clostridium perfringens, Klebsiella ozaenae, and Staphylococcus aureus. Wooden foreign bodies can be difficult to detect on imaging and remove due to the risk of orbital and intracranial infection.
