This study examines people's beliefs and behaviors around driving in inclement weather. 61 university students completed a questionnaire about their demographics, transportation habits, and beliefs regarding accidents during bad weather. The study aims to determine if gender or age relate to likelihood of driving in bad weather, and whether beliefs about weather-related accident rates impact use of public transportation or personal vehicles during inclement conditions. As a correlational study, it cannot prove causation.

Introduction
Safety is an important aspect of human lives of all ages, and its achievement and sustenance is being aimed at globally. Those vulnerable most in this case are the young children and the adolescents, who are still dependent on parents and guardians to keep them healthy and safe. The wellbeing is when an individual is safe and healthy, and is part and parcel of the quality of life. This wellbeing also includes mental health, when an individual can also fulfill their goals, both social and personal, and general wellbeing includes aspects such as income, education, general health and safety as objective measures, and also aspects such as happiness, satisfaction and quality of life. The aspect of children and adolescent wellbeing, both physically and mentally, is therefore important, as it will factor in an individual’s well being when they grow up, and therefore a stable, safe and healthy childhood and adolescent is very crucial for any generation. There are several factors to be looked at when dealing with child and adolescent well being, and they include education, culture, gender, family and parenting (Kahl, Dortschy & Ellsasser, 2007).
Health and Well-Being
The measures for physical health include self reported health, child mortality, infant mortality, birth weight, breastfeeding, immunization, hearing and vision, height and weight, chronic conditions, development process and dental health. The healthy behavior and lifestyle include things such as non intentional accidents, safety behaviors, physical activity, injuries and exercises. Some measures that promote healthy childhood and adolescent life include things such as immunization, as it lowers the child mortality and also gives them strong health advantages. Globally, the percentage of death contributed by unintentional injury is very large, and presence of healthy behaviors can reduce this percentage significantly (Fauth & Thompson, 2009).
Safety Regulations
Over the past few decades, the regulations regarding safety and health of children and adolescents have increased, and measures have been put in place by governments globally, although they differ in legislation and enforcement. Some of the interventions include the introduction of the requirement for minimum age fro drinking, where minors aren’t allowed to drink alcohol. Novice drivers are also regulated regarding the blood alcohol concentration. Laws regarding wearing of helmets when riding bicycles and motorcycles have also been introduced. Laws regarding seat belts, helmets and child restraint are also being enforced, and did not exist when we were growing up. Road rage is a deeply rooted social problem and has become a
common phenomenon among road users. Over 85% of New South
Wales (NSW) drivers interviewed reported of being a victim of various forms of road rage while this figure is even higher in Brisbane
with 95% [1]. Nine out of ten US drivers believe aggressive drivers
pose a threat to their personal safety while 78% of the drivers report of engaging in aggressive driving at least once in 2014 AAAFTS
[2]. The fact that road rage and aggressive driving is rated above
drink driving as the biggest safety concern reveals the seriousness
of the issue. Road rage can be defined as any hostile act conducted
by a road user towards another road user on the roadway, including
parking lots. These acts involve extreme forms of aggression like
physically assaulting road users (both driver/passenger), vehicles
or both. Road rage has become an easy medium to express anger,
frustration, and the annoyance of everyday conflicts and disagreements on situations arising both on and off the roadway due to
power, ease of escape, anonymity, and protection associated with

Stereotype threat effects among students whose schools are good but not NYU-good
This study examined whether stereotype threat affects the academic performance of students at CUNY Brooklyn College compared to more prestigious schools like NYU. 82 Brooklyn College students of varying political orientations completed verbal and math problems under conditions that either primed their college affiliation alone or alongside NYU. Results showed that only politically conservative Brooklyn College students performed worse on the test when their college was primed alongside NYU, demonstrating stereotype threat. In contrast, liberal Brooklyn College students were unaffected by the prime, suggesting their ideology buffered against stereotype threat effects. The findings suggest stereotype threat stemming from college reputation hierarchies can impact performance, but only for those with worldviews like conservatism that are susceptible to status quo stereotypes.

Study on Driving Behaviors in Adults with Autism Spectrum Diagnoses
This study investigated driving behaviors in adults with autism spectrum disorders compared to non-ASD adults. 78 licensed drivers with ASD and 94 non-ASD drivers completed a driving questionnaire. Drivers with ASD reported lower ability to drive and more traffic accidents/citations than non-ASD drivers. They also reported more difficulties with intentional violations, mistakes, and slips/lapses. The authors evaluated a brief intervention for increasing seat belt use among the front seat occu-
pants of cars at a junior college, in a jurisdiction with a mandatory belt use law. The intervention
included public posting of performance feedback and distribution of an informational flyer to
cars in a target parking lot. Feedback was the display of the proportion of drivers observed wear-
ing seat belts on the previous observation day. Seat belt use among drivers increased from 64%
during the baseline phase to 71% during the intervention phase. Seat belt use among front pas-
sengers increased from 49% during the baseline phase to 67% during the intervention phase. In
both cases, seat belt use at follow-up was comparable to seat belt use during the intervention
phase, although a trend toward decreasing belt use was noted. Also found was higher seat belt
use among females as compared with males irrespective of their front seat occupant status
(driver or passenger). Effects of the intervention are discussed in the context of increasing seat
belt use in a hardcore nonuser population of predominantly young adults.

Stereotype threat effects among students whose schools are good but not NYU-good
This study examined whether stereotype threat affects the academic performance of students at CUNY Brooklyn College compared to more prestigious schools like NYU. 82 Brooklyn College students of varying political orientations completed verbal and math problems under conditions that either primed their college affiliation alone or alongside NYU. Results showed that only politically conservative Brooklyn College students performed worse on the test when their college was primed alongside NYU, demonstrating stereotype threat. In contrast, liberal Brooklyn College students were unaffected by the prime, suggesting their ideology buffered against stereotype threat effects. The findings suggest stereotype threat stemming from college reputation hierarchies can impact performance, but only for those with worldviews like conservatism that are susceptible to status quo stereotypes.

They also reported more difficulties with intentional violations, mistakes, and slips/lapses. This suggests adults with ASD may experience more problems driving and engage in riskier behaviors than non-ASD drivers.

The authors evaluated a brief intervention for increasing seat belt use among the front seat occu-
pants of cars at a junior college, in a jurisdiction with a mandatory belt use law. The intervention
included public posting of performance feedback and distribution of an informational flyer to
cars in a target parking lot. Feedback was the display of the proportion of drivers observed wear-
ing seat belts on the previous observation day. Seat belt use among drivers increased from 64%
during the baseline phase to 71% during the intervention phase. Seat belt use among front pas-
sengers increased from 49% during the baseline phase to 67% during the intervention phase. In
both cases, seat belt use at follow-up was comparable to seat belt use during the intervention
phase, although a trend toward decreasing belt use was noted. Also found was higher seat belt
use among females as compared with males irrespective of their front seat occupant status
(driver or passenger). Effects of the intervention are discussed in the context of increasing seat
belt use in a hardcore nonuser population of predominantly young adults.

- 1. OVERVIEW Many people believe that weather patterns influence driving safety. As a result, there are many web sites and other publications dedicated to giving people tips about how to drive in various weather conditions (see references and links below). Additionally, car accidents are often attributed to bad weather (e.g., see Taylor & Quinn, 1991). This study examines the beliefs and behaviors of people with respect to the important topic of driving in inclement weather. The participants in this study filled out a questionnaire consisting of some demographic questions and then questions asking about their transportation habits and other beliefs concerning inclement weather. This questionnaire was administered to a convenience sample of 61 University of Houston - Downtown students at various locations (i.e., classrooms, hallways, and the food court). QUESTIONS TO ANSWER Is gender or age related to the likelihood of driving in inclement weather? Does the number of accidents that someone thinks occur during inclement weather relate to how often he or she takes public transportation or chooses to drive during inclement weather? DESIGN ISSUES This is a correlational study, so we cannot infer causation.
