George is a young boy who cares for his ill mother and younger sister after school each day. At school, his teacher notices he is withdrawn and doesn't socialize with other students. When George tries to leave class quickly, the teacher stops him to ask if anything is wrong, but he refuses to open up. At home, George cooks dinner and cares for his family, while hiding his mother's worsening condition from his sister. After getting a concerning call from the hospital about his mother, George worries for her health while she tries to reassure him.

2. 2.
A young boy named George is sat in lesson completing
his work set by the teacher. George has dark brown
hair, with bright green eyes. He is sat right at the
front of the classroom, ignoring his surroundings. A
boy from behind him throws a scrunched up piece of
paper at him, the teacher notices this and tells them
they both have to stay after class.
Teacher
Right! George and Ryan you two
are staying with me after
lesson!
Ryan
What do you mean ‘I have to
stay!’ Gods sakes George, yo
wasteman.
George bows his head as he apologies to his teacher
George
Sorry Miss.
CUT TO WHITE
Flash forward to the end of the lesson.
TEACHER
Erm? Mr Louis and where are you
going?
RYAN
Ugghh, I’m going home miss you
can’t make me stay here!
The teacher quickly moves in front of him in the door way
blocking his exit, he pushes past her, and laughs with
his friends as he runs down the corridor. The teacher
calls after him from the doorway of the classroom.
TEACHER
Thats a detention after school Mr
Louis!
The teacher then turns and walks back into the classroom
and sits at her desk, and begins to write an email out to
Ryan’s parents.
George sits there fidgeting with the hem of his shirt,
waiting for the teacher to say something to him, he
finally speaks up.
GEORGE
Erm, Miss am I allowed to go now?

3. 3.
TEACHER
(Surprised)
Actually, can we talk for a
second?
GEORGE
Erm I have to pick up my sister…
George stands up and attempts to walk away.
TEACHER
This will only take a second.
George sits back down and the teacher sits in the chair
next to him.
TEACHER
George how are you? You always
walk into class with your head
down, you don’t say anything to
anyone, and simply just get your
work done. Now don't get me wrong
I am happy your getting your work
done, but I just think you could
contribute more in class the
comments you make in your work is
insightful and the rest of the
class would really benefit from
your views and opinions, I know it
can be scary but…
George sits still fidgeting with the hem of his shirt
purposely avoiding eye contact with the teacher saying
nothing back to her statement.
GEORGE
(Interrupting)
Err, I just don’t… don’t really
think the kids in this class like
me. I’m fine with having no one to
talk too, it means I get to
concentrate on my work.
The teacher moves her hand to rest on his arm attempting
to comfort him.
TEACHER
George you can talk to me! If the
kids in here are picking on you,
you have to tell me. I can’t help
you unless you tell me that
something is wrong.
She pauses and waits for him to say something back he
doesn’t he stay quiet and stares out the window.

4. 4.
TEACHER
I know you have a lot of
responsibility and you’ve had to
grow up faster than a lot of other
kids but…
Something clicks in George and he stands up.
GEORGE
I don’t want to talk about this,
not with you, not with anyone, my
problems are my problems, I’m fine
and taking care of my
responsibilities.
George quickly walks out of the classroom, shutting the
door behind him. He walks straight out of the school
front doors.
CUT TO BLACK - FADE
IN
EXT. PRIMARY SCHOOL - AFTERNOON
George slowly walks up to the primary school and smiles
to a teacher as he walks past. He walks up to the
classroom that says 2GR. He takes a deep breathe and puts
on his best fakes smile, a little girl comes running up
to him and gives him a hug, she's laughs as he tickles
her.
GEORGE
How was your day Charlie?
Charlotte is George’s younger sister, he calls her
Charlie even though she doesn’t like the name, and gets
angry is anyone else calls her that. Charlotte his bright
blonde and she has green eyes.
CHARLOTTE
(Joyful)
It was really good, I got a gold
star to day.
She points to the golden sicker on her chest.
GEORGE
And who did you steal that off,
‘cause I know a naughty girl like
you couldn’t have got one
yourself!

5. 5.
He begins to tickle her again and she bursts into
screaming laugh.
CHARLOTTE
Hehe, stop it George. I did get it
myself! I was really really good
today.!
GEORGE
Okay I believe you, and I'm really
proud of you. Come on let’s go
home and show Mom, I bet it’ll
make her day.
Charlotte takes hold of George hand and turns around to
say goodbye to her teacher.
CHARLOTTE
Okay. Bye Miss King, thank you.
MISS KING
Good bye Charlotte, good bye
George, safe journey home you two.
Miss King walks towards her colleague and they both start
to walk back into the school building since Charlotte was
the last student waiting with her.
EXT. STREET - AFTERNOON
George takes Charlotte’s bags as he can see she is
getting tired and the bag is becoming too heavy for her.
GEORGE
Come Charlie, only a little bit
further.
Charlotte’s face remains neutral.
GEORGE
Come on let me see the teeth you
have left.
Charlotte gives him a huge smiling revealing the massive
gaps in her mouth from her missing teeth.
EXT. STREET - AFTERNOON (DARKER THAN EARLIER)
George and Charlotte turn the corner still holding hands,
once they’re around the corner Charlotte runs off to a
house a couple doors down from the street corner. She
attempts to open the door but its locked, she then turns
to look at George.

CHARLOTTE
Hurry up Georgie!
RYAN
Yeah Georgie, hurry up your
sister’s waiting.
Ryan and his friend from class earlier, appear from
around another corner which George and Charlotte just
came from. George starts to speed walk towards his sister
and fiddles with his keys trying to open the door as
quick as possible.
CHARLOTTE
Hello, I’m Charl…
Charlotte begins to introduce herself to the two boys but
is cut off by George pushing her into the house.
INT. HOUSE - AFTERNOON
Charlotte looks at George in an anger manner until she
see her mother sat on the couch.
CHARLOTTE
MOMMY!
Charlotte runs to her mother and giving her a hug, she
begins to ask her mother how her day was and tell her
about the gold star she got.
GEORGE
Hey Mom, how you doing?
George walks up to his Mom and kisses her head, but as he
pulls away her hair comes away with his hand, he notices
and tries to hid it from his mom and sister and walks
away into the kitchen.
GEORGE
Have you eaten today mom?
Claire is George and Charlotte’s mother, she has bright
blonde hair and beautiful green eyes. She looks quite
pale in the face and so skinny that he bones are starting
to show.
CLAIRE
Stop worrying about me George. Im
the mother hear I should be asking
you if you’ve eaten.

7. 7.
GEORGE
Charlie, come on give mom some
space to breathe, give me a hand
in the kitchen and I’ll make your
favourite.
CLAIRE
(Joking and laughing)
Go help your brother Char, we both
know how bad his cooking is.
Her mother begins to tickle her as she walks off to help
her brother in the kitchen.
FADE TO BLACK -
FADE IN
INT. LIVING ROOM. EVENING
Charlotte is carrying cutlery into the living room and
George is close behind her with two plates of food.
GEORGE
Sit down Charlotte so I can put
your plate on your lap.
Charlotte does as her brother says handing the cutlery to
her mother, sitting down with her back right against the
couch and her legs sitting straight on the couch. George
places the plate on top of her legs, and her mother
passes her the smallest knife and fork out of the
collections had been handed. George then gives his mother
the other plate in his hand, and leaves the room to fetch
his own plate. Once George walks back into the room and
sits next to his sister on the couch, his mother hands
him the remainder of the cutlery in her hand and they all
begin to eat their food.
CLAIRE
Wow George, this is really good!
She looks at Charlotte and shakes her head and they both
start to giggle.
GEORGE
(Emotionless)
Thanks mom, I’m glad you like it!
CLAIRE
So George your sister has told me
all about her day and the fact
that she got a gold star.
She looks at her daughter and smiles making funny face
which makes Charlotte giggle.

8. 8.
CLAIRE
But how was your day, did you get
any homework today?
GEORGE
Ermm, it was okay I guess, nothing
special. And I got a bit of
homework for my English lesson,
but nothing I can’t handle.
CLAIRE
George I want to help you with
your homework, remember I was an
English student, passed my exams
with flying colours. I want the
same for you.
GEORGE
You need to stop focusing on me
and get yourself better.
Charlotte begins to talk with her mouth full of food.
CHARLOTTE
What’s wrong with mom?
GEORGE
Nothing’s wrong with mom, she’s
just worried that your going to
eat so much you turn into Dumbo.
He laughs and his sister looks down at the food she's
eating and puts another fork full of food in her mouth.
The phones rings and their mother attempts to stand up,
but George raises his hand telling his mother that he
will get and begins to walk out the room towards where
the phone is ringing.
GEORGE
Hello, Williams house hold.
DOCTOR (OS)
Hello this is the Doctor Mann from
the radiology department at the
Royal Robinson Hospital, is Mrs
Claire Williams there.
GEORGE
Ermm no she can’t come to the
phone at the minute, but I'm her
son, can I take a message?

9. 9.
DOCTOR (OS)
Yes, if you could tell her to call
the hospital back and ask for
Doctor Mann.
GEORGE
erm… yeah okay, but what’s going
on?
DOCTOR (OS)
I can’t give that information out
but do get her to phone as soon as
she is able…
Tears begin to fall down Georges face as the Doctor on
the other end of the phone carries on talking about his
mother condition.
DOCTOR (OS)
Hello, Mr Williams, are you still
there?
A few more second pass and the dial tone is heard George
still holds the phone to his ear and tears stream down
his emotionless face.
CUT TO BLACK - FADE
IN
INT. GIRLS BEDROOM - NIGHTTIME
George gets his sister ready for bed and tucks her into
bed kissing her head, he then leave her room and turn the
lights off, just as he’s about to leave her room.
CHARLOTTE
(Said in a sleepy
tone)
I love you.
GEORGE
I love you more.
George leaves her room to then walk downstairs to talk to
his mother about the phone call earlier.
GEORGE
Hey Mom, how you feeling?
He sits down on the couch opposite to the one his mother
is on.
CLAIRE
Hi honey, I’m okay. You never said
who was on the phone earlier?

10. 10.
GEORGE
Ermm it was the hospital, it was
Doctor Mann from the Radiology
department. Is everything okay
mom, why do you need to…
George is cut off by his mother moving over to him and
hugging him.
CLAIRE
Hey George calm down, I’m going to
be fine and you need to stop
worrying about me, thats my job.
GEORGE
I know Mom but it works both ways,
I’m not okay if your not okay.
CLAIRE
And I’m going to be fine George, I
promise you, now it’s getting late
you need to go to bed.
GEORGE
But mom we need…
CLAIRE
No buts, off to bed.
GEORGE
Fine, but we are going to talk
about this sooner or later, I know
your just trying to avoid this.
Goodnight mom I love you.
CLAIRE
Smart boy. Night George, I love
you more.
George gets up and walks off out the door, staying to see
if he’s moms okay. Claire breaks down into tears as he
son leaves the room. Both characters are shown in a close
up as they cry in harmony.
