The document discusses agile enterprise architecture in government business transformations. It recommends combining top-down strategic architecture with bottom-up capability architectures to embrace agile enterprise architecture. This allows for top-down governance with bottom-up responsiveness. Key aspects of agile enterprise architecture include partitioning work, conducting architecture sprints, close customer collaboration, and ensuring global integration of workstreams.

Restarting enterprise architecture in the age of digital transformationJason Bloomberg
In today's world of digital transformation, many organizations are struggling to make Enterprise Architecture (EA) work. Some of the existing frameworks are difficult to implement and do not provide the business agility necessary that is required to succeed with comprehensive digital transformation initiatives.
As a result, EA is now at a crossroads. Traditional approaches and artifacts aren not providing sufficient value. Instead, organizations must rethink the role EA plays and the enterprise architects must think in new ways about how they can add value to their organizations
In this webinar, you will learn
- Key tips to help your CIO see the value of EA
- What needs to be different about EA in a Digital Transformation world
- What you can do today to restart your EA program
Transnet is the largest and most crucial part of the freight logistics chain that delivers goods to each and every South African. Every day Transnet delivers thousands of tons of goods around South Africa, through its pipelines and both to and from its ports. It moves that cargo on to ships for export while it unloads goods from overseas.
In this presentation, Kevin Govender, Group Chief Enterprise Architect at Transnet, in Johannesburg, South Africa, shares the approach that Transnet uses to create business value through an ARIS based Enterprise Architecture Solution. Kevin shares that creating value through Enterprise Architecture involves planning and monitoring the performance of IT support of the business, throughout its entire lifecycle – ensuring that business strategy and demands are completely understood, prioritized and executed on and that the costs, quality and risks to IT support are known and considered during decision making.

Does Agile Enterprise Architecture = Agile + Enterprise Architecture?Jason Bloomberg
Does Agile EA Equal Agile Plus EA?
Confusion over the word “agile” is actually one of the challenges with Enterprise Architecture (EA) today. So, what does "agile" -- or in some quarters, "Agile" -- mean today, and how do we apply Agile to architecture? Most people use the phrase "Agile Architecture" to refer to software architecture appropriate for Agile software development projects -- not EA at all.
Nevertheless, there is a growing Agile EA movement that extends the core principles of the Agile manifesto to EA more broadly. This approach deemphasizes the role of frameworks and other artifacts, and instead treats the enterprise as a complex adaptive system.
Agile EA thus leverages complex systems theory, including the role of emergent properties, to rethink how organizations innovate and otherwise deal with change within the context of market and regulatory constraints.
Attendees of this session will:
* Gain clear differentiators between Agile software architecture and Agile EA
* Understand the role of complex systems theory to the practice of Agile EA
* Learn how Bloomberg Agile Architecture(tm) can support organizations' agility requirements in the future
Lean & Agile Enterprise Frameworks: For Managing Large U.S. Government Cloud ...David Rico
This is a presentation on "Lean & Agile Enterprise Frameworks: For Managing Large U.S. Government Cloud Computing Projects," which are emerging models for managing high-risk, time-sensitive R&D-oriented new product development (NPD) projects with demanding customers and fast-changing market conditions (at the enterprise, portfolio, and program levels). It establishes the context, provide a definition, and describe the value-system for lean and agile program and project management. It provides a brief survey and comparative analysis of the pros and cons of emerging lean and agile frameworks such as Enterprise Scrum, LeSS, DaD, SAFe, and RAGE. Then it describes the Scaled Agile Academy's Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) in greater detail (which is the de facto international standard for scaling the use of agile methods to the enterprise, portfolio, and program levels for both systems and software development). SAFe is hybrid model best known for "blending" megatrends such as lean and agile principles into a single unified framework, establishing an authoritative foundation for scaling agile methods to large-scale private and public sector programs, and unifying East (lean) and West (agile) into a common language for systems and software development that is both lean "and" agile. In addition to SAFe case studies, late-breaking developments on the use of "Continuous Delivery," "DevOps," and bleeding-edge "Unstructured Web Databases" at Google and Amazon to automate large sections of the enterprise value stream will be discussed (which has been successfully used by some of the world's largest firms to boost organizational productivity by one or two orders of magnitude). This briefing has been warmly received by multiple U.S. government agencies, contractors, and PMI audiences throughout Baltimore-Washington, DC.
This is an old slidedeck (March 2006) that I rediscovered the other day on my filesystem, but it still seems relevant in that, even at that early stage, it illustrates strong crosslinks between enterprise-architecture and systems-thinking - particularly service-oriented architectures, the 'tetradian' dimensions (here as machines, knowledge, people and business-purpose), and a somewhat-extended version of Stafford Beer's classic Viable Systems Model. It's also slightly unusual in that it cross-references to FEAF (US Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework) rather than TOGAF, as we'd found the latter to be unhelpful and misleading for that particular client. The client themselves were in the logistics industry - hence the pseudo-logo in the upper left of each slide.
It was a real presentation for a real client, presenting to other architects in our team some research I'd been doing, on how we could rethink our approach to enterprise-architecture as we started to break out of the classic IT-centric box. It's in a style I wouldn't use these days - way too many words! - and it's been somewhat 'de-identified' for reasons of commercial confidentiality, but otherwise it's exactly as presented to my colleagues at that client.
One minor note: the 'X/C/M/P' extensions to the Viable System Model, in slides 19, 20 and 28, relate to work we'd been doing at the time on integrating quality-system concerns - management of exceptions, corrective-action, issue-tracking and process-improvement - into both enterprise-architecture and the Viable System Model itself. I haven't seen any other reference to this type of integration, either before or since: it may be useful to quite a few people, on both the enterprise-architecture and systems-thinking sides of that discussion, and also to quality-system folks as well.
In short, yes, it's old, but it may still be useful for some folks in enterprise-architectures and elsewhere. Hope it helps, anyway.

Business Transformation: PwC Presents Its Viewpoint on the Integration FabricCA Technologies
While cloud and digital devices enable 24/7 anywhere, anytime access, these same technologies introduce complex integration challenges. Traditional integration technologies can't keep pace. They are typically costly and brittle and perpetuate dated processes and organizational and governance structures.
Savvy organizations are transforming their integration approaches through innovative technologies combined with organizational and governance change to create a seamless, secure and interconnected ecosystem that can rapidly respond to change.
We present PwC's viewpoint on how to help organizations combine tools, accelerators and business transformation coupled with a new view of integration "roles" that is at the heart of helping business units leverage the flexible tools of the integration fabric and continue to accelerate time to market.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
