The document introduces the concept of a business capability model for normalizing business exchanges. It discusses how capabilities abstract away how business is carried out by focusing on what a business can deliver. Capabilities are longer-term concepts that represent a company's ability to provide value to the market. Requests represent a specific instance of a capability being utilized, with an implicit relationship between the request and producer. The capability model promotes flexibility, agility, and competition between providers by allowing consumers to easily change providers.

Don't be scared, level zero in a capability map is just a way to structure the map so that we have a consistent way of communicating. It's really not that important if all you wish todo is create an excellent set of capabilities for your business. However if you are intent on changing the foundation of your business then level zero is absolutely imperative to get right. Capabilities and capability maps are not organization structures, they do however serve as a powerful instrument when one need to create an organization architecture, in fact they are best thought of as organizing structures.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are typically used to measure the performance of a firm both at the strategic and operational level. KPIs often form the basis of a firm's goal management system: Each KPI is assigned and owner in the firm's top management, who is then responsible for reaching a particular target.
This case study shows that in order to find realistic targets for KPIs the firm's management needs a clear understanding of how the KPIs really measure the firm's performance, how they depend on each other and how KPI targets need to change over time in order to ensure the firm's ultimate goals are reached.
Our client in this case is a successful IT professional service firm that approached us because they wanted to find ways of increasing their growth rates organically. We took a holistic approach to analysing the firm's business model and KPIs using System Dynamics. The case study illustrates this using concrete examples, in particular regarding KPIs such as the firm’s leverage, the average fee, the utilisation, and the profit margin.

Keep change projects under control with agile business analysismicroTOOL GmbH
In businesses today, digitalization is causing increased pressure to develop innovations. Business-wide processes, learning systems and the interconnectivity of devices and applications offer many possibilities for innovations, but in change projects, this leads to a lot of complexity, an ever-increasing number of stakeholders and a creeping scope. Yet changes and innovation require agile planning as well as a consistent focus on business value and stakeholders’ feedback.
The basic concepts of requirements engineering alone – stakeholders, goals and requirements – are not enough to satisfy the challenges of change projects. Here, agile business analysis offers effective support.
This lecture will introduce types of artifacts in agile business analysis and discuss their diverse relationships. The artifacts types cover the entire value chain from need to solution to value. The lecture will also explain how:
• The complexity of a change project can be controlled through views of the artifacts and their relationships.
• Agility can be achieved by breaking a change project down into multiple requirements-driven initiatives (in terms of partial projects of a program).
The artifact model is a further development of the core concepts from the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge and the Agile Extension to the BABOK Guide v2. It forms the foundation for consistent, tool-supported business analysis. It is also a common map for change teams on the path from business need to stakeholder value. It offers every individual information as to where they find themselves on the complex “terrain” of a change project and how they can react to changes effectively.

Business architecture and capabilities mapping captures and encapsulates the essence of a business. Using capabilities enterprises can model their current and desired business capabilities with rich semantics and leverage these as Lego blocks to compose products/ initiatives, overlay them with value streams and processes, and capture requirements to evolve capabilities. Business capability mapping helps companies establish a common language, fosters business/IT alignment, helps reduce redundancy and rework, and aligns execution with strategy.

It's never been as important to reach outside of the business as it is in the digital world of today. From an architects perspective it is vital to be able to connect the dots between what is servicing and what is being served. This little card is designed to help you go fast by staying small and keeping it nimble. The design of the card does some heavy lifting by tying the outside to the inside through services and value requirements.
Whatever business you are in innovation is the name of the game. Today it's even more important than ever that you innovate fast and somewhat accurate. This little card is designed to help you go fast by staying small and keeping it nimble

'Productised' approach to fast track Capability Assessment exercise. This is to avoid the typically huge and never-ending power-point industry created by architecture 'experts'
The first thing for EA professional to do is to map the Enterprise for every one to comprehend a tangible enterprise. This presentation shares Enterprise Map experience which has been useful for both business and technical community. In the speaker’s experience, the Enterprise Map is the few EA artifact that has retained its value long after delivery. While other EA artifacts end up as shelf-ware (and hence long forgotten in the EA repository), sets of Enterprise Maps make it much easier to explain EA concepts (at least in comparison to the Zachman framework).
Not only does the Enterprise Map help to unravel the “big picture” of the enterprise, but it also facilitates enterprise collaboration. Gaining a true understanding of the enterprise is a collaborate process; this process is well-illustrated in the story of the blind man and the elephant. Thus, the formulation of the Enterprise Map also serves to create a culture of collaboration throughout the enterprise.
One can draw parallels between the Enterprise Map (and its function as the “ground work” of EA) and an engineering survey. The Enterprise Map is not just a glorified diagram output from a complicated EA system; rather, it is built piece-by-piece from the hard work and total participation of various stakeholders. In fact, the Enterprise Map does not require a complicated EA system – it can be prepared with basic tools and manual processes (e.g., Microsoft Visio / SmartDraw).
For years I've been fascinated by the usage of EA as a means to document and structure all aspects of an enterprise. There are many good sources of information out there today that will show you how to do that. But what about reasoning about the enterprise, what models exists to do that
Presentation for the IASA January 2016 eSummit on business-architecture - see http://iasaglobal.org/monthly-esummit/
Exploring the context of business-architecture: upwards to the big-picture, downwards to implementation, sideways to connections and qualities, and avoiding design-mistakes that take us backward to business-models that really don't work...
The promises of Service Oriented Enterprise Architecture include greater business agility, improved application integration at reduced cost, and the holy grail of aligning IT initiatives with business objectives. Achieving these goals requires organizations to approach SOA from an Enterprise Architecture perspective. Although existing EA processes and tools can be adapted to facilitate SOA, a new approach is gaining wider acceptance as being especially suited to this task.
Capability Modeling focuses on the things that business units can do instead of how they do them. There is a direct corollary to the best practices of service design, where the focus of analysis is on what a service does instead of how it is implemented. Business Capabilities can be described in terms that the business is familiar with, and then mapped directly to services implemented by systems supported by the IT organization.
This presentation covers the basics of Capability Modeling and how this important technique can be used by Enterprise Architects to facilitate an SOA adoption program.

6. Capability vs Request
● Capability is an value of the Market provided by a company
● Capability doesnt known producer, it is an abstraction which is realized by
a company when is provided
● Capability is reusable, a backer sells bread, also a supermarket, a mall...
● Request has an producer who implemented, requesting has an implicit
relationship request-producer
● Capability need to sign a contract as preliminary step before carrying
with business process, this signature process meets both part each other
● Capability promotes the competition, providers can compete to maximize
the generated value. Your bread is good but mine is better, so the
consumer can change the contract
● Capability more agile and flexible. Due to the fact, both parts does not
