Canzona Septimi No. 2 Analysis
The eight–part collection for various combinations of trumpets and trombones, Canzona septimi toni
no. 2 by Giovanni Gabrieli, employs antiphony as a means of taking advantage of church acoustics.
His strategic separation of two instrumental groups illuminates the dialogic structure of Gabrieli's
composition. It's meter alternates between duple and triple, finally returning to duple meter pending
the completion of the piece . In terms of harmony, the work contains mainly homophony, again,
alternating between both instrumental groups placed antiphonally within the church. The through–
composed canzona exhibits Gabrieli's cultivation of musical material in dialogue between
instrumental groups. The timbre, meter, and antiphony utilized in Gabrieli's

How Did Mozart Contribute To The Classical Period?
Mozart was a prolific and most influential composer of the classical era. As a mere toddler he began
to observe his sister's lessons with their father, developing a keen ear, and showing signs of
surprising comprehension. His father, Leopold, was himself a successful composer, violinist and
assistant concert master of the Salzburg Court. Both Mozart and his sister were tutored by their
father, a dedicated and task–oriented pedagogue. Young Mozart progressed anon, excelling even
above his father's pedagogic genius. At the verdant age of six, he performed as a child prodigy at
royal courts in London, Paris, and Zurich. Mozart's youth was spent fully engaged in touring and
performance. These tours were financed through donors and patrons. Through the years, and while
abroad, Mozart met many accomplished musicians such as Johann ... Show more content on

Composing works derived from styles already in existence, he created an extremely unique and
unprecedented genre of works. Thus Mozart became a trailblazer of the classical age. Music from
this period consists largely of a lighter and clearer texture than the preceding Baroque music and is
less intricate. One trademark especially evident in Mozart's contribution to the classical period is the
use of homophony. Examples of the homophonic effect are displayed in his piano concerto No. 23
and sonata No 16 in C. In these, the distinct pattern of an indubitable melody can be distinctly and
easily recognized above the adjunct chordal accompaniment. Although Mozart contributed primarily
to the growth of the classical era, he was also influenced by the works of Handel and Bach. Both
were prominent composers of the baroque era. In some of his later works, Mozart indulged more in
the incorporation of the previous baroque

The Performance Of The Symphony No.9
The performance of the Symphony No.9 by Beethoven, conducted by Lenard Bernstein, was a
magnificent piece that captured all the emotion of the people, from the sorrow of those lost in the
war to the joy of the freedom they had just acquired. This piece was placed in Berlin to celebrate the
uniting of East and West Germany. It was performed in the restored Schauspiel house, which had
been completely destroyed during the war. It was restored to be one of the world's finest concert
halls. This performance was such a large, historic event that it was televised in over 20 different
countries. Lenard Bernstein even took this event as seriously as to change the lyrics of the last
movement from the German word for "joy" to the German word for "freedom" to commemorate the
momentous occasion. The performing forces for this event were quite elaborate. The Bavereon
Radio Orchestra was joined by the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Orchestra of the Leningrad Kirov
Theatre, the London symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Paris Orchestra. In
regards to vocalists, the Baverien Radio chorus sung in addition to the Berlin radio chorus and the
children's chorus of the Dresden Philharmonic. The soloists were June Anderson, Sara Walker,
Klaus Konig, and Jan Hendrik Rootering. One interesting thing to note about the conductor is that
while conducting the orchestra he didn't have any music sheets. He knew the music so well that he
didn't need to have it in front of him.

The Classical Era Of Music
Music throughout the eras have differed and changed since the beginning of time. Each era has
something special about it that is different from the last era, which makes each era something unique
from the last. Just as in fashion you see trends change sometimes over night, but in the eyes of a
decade, these changes are eras of fashion, just as the eras of music. Composers took the knowledge
from previous composers and put their own ideas to use and sometimes created ground breaking
movements. The movement between the Baroque era and the Classical era was a movement of
almost all changes. Changes from the melody to the form of the composition. The Classical era
following the Baroque era was full of changes, differing from one another drastically.
The Baroque period began around the 1600's until around the 1750's. The Baroque era of music was
one of the most revolutionary periods in music history. This era saw the development of functional
tonality, brought new instrumental playing techniques and more elaborate and complex
compositions. Baroque music was complex, tonal, and had clear common patterns of chords. This
era also featured many well–known composers, such as Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi. This era also
brought about developments in musical terms and concepts which are still used in today's music.
With the Classical era following the Baroque era from 1750–1825, the Classical era was much of a
contrast to its preceding periods of musical history. Pieces composed in this

How Did Classical Music Develop Throughout The 19th And...
Introduction
The music of the 19th and 20th centuries is classified as late Classical and Romantic periods. During
this time frame, composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Mendelssohn, and
Schumann thrived. Throughout the 1800s, music was extremely diverse in composition and
performance, and much of the music centered on people's religious preferences and nationality.
In the 1800s, the Romantic Era helped introduce bold and more dissonant pieces, which were longer
and more complex than previous classical music. This boldness in music creation helped listeners
identify with each composer's unique, individual style and decipher between musicians during
performances. Musical ideas such as homophony, public concerts, and orchestras expanded during
the early 1800s. Homophony, referencing clear melody and accompaniment helped musicians and ...

Introduced by the cellos in the fifth bar of the melody, a C# is played to create harmonic tension. A
tritone is formed between the C# of the cellos and the repetition of G by the violins. During the
development section, the violins play a high F natural against an E natural, which together showcase
the fury behind the composer's intentions of this piece as a commemoration for the lost lives of war
heroes.
Musical Textures:
Allegro con brio has two main themes, with the first played by a multitude of instruments including
flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, and multiple strings. The second movement helps calmly
transition the piece to the development section. In this third section, Beethoven introduces a third
theme, thus breaking the normal ideology with classical music that the development section recycles
material previously played in the movement. Therefore, this first movement of Symphony No. 3 has
the most diverse textural material.

How Has Music Evolved During The Middle Ages
From the ninth century up to the end of the eighteenth century Western music has grown from
serious liturgy church music to a more enlightened and complex yet simple to the listener forms.
There are four periods of music during this span of time that will be discussed, the Middle Ages, the
Renaissance era, the Baroque era, and the Classical era that will describe how music has evolved
during these time periods. During the earlier Middle Ages (around the ninth century) music was
controlled by the Christian church. The music that the Catholic Church sponsored was the chanting
of words from sacred writings of the service that was being celebrated, this chant or plainchant was
commonly down as the Gregorian chant. The Gregorian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Louis Armstrong's 'West End Blues'
For this analysis on Louis Armstrong's West End Blues, I am going to concentrate on Louis
Armstrong and how influential he was in the birth of Swing. He was extremely innovative in the
way he played his instrument. Louis Armstrong had a brilliant trumpet sound. His power, range, and
his rhythmic approach are all trademarks of his playing in the 1920s and 1930s. West End Blues is
still considered one of the most influential and classic pieces in the Jazz Industry. I will explain why

A Cord Of Three Strands Analysis
The Faculty Jazz Ensemble was on Monday, November 9 in the Westbrook Music Hall. The
Performers included Peter Bouffard on guitar, Paul Haar on saxophone, Dave Hall on drums, Tom
Larson on piano, Hans Sturm on bass, and Darryl White on trumpet. The first piece was A Cord of
Three Strands composed by Darryl White. It was in a minor mode and was in triple meter. The piece
started off with a calm piano dynamic and homophonic texture with the trumpet playing the melody
over the drums, bass, and piano playing a countermelody underneath. The trumpet soon fades out
with a cadence and the saxophone comes in with a deeper more calming sound than the trumpet,
again with a homophonic texture. The piece reminds me of a calm pouring rain. When the
saxophone and trumpet are included, the rain picks up and when it is just the drums, bass, and piano
it is like a slight drizzle of rain. The piece fizzles out in the end with a clam cadence. ... Show more

The piece starts of with a light sound and homophonic texture. The bass, piano, saxophone, and
trumpet are on the melody with the drums countering underneath. Soon, the saxophone comes in
with a solo over the rest of the instruments. This solo is flowy and lingering. The melody seems to
be conjunct. I envisioned a person ice skating, gliding around on the ice without tripping or
stumbling. As the saxophone settles out, there is a decrescendo. There is a combination between a
homophonic texture of saxophone and trumpet over bass, drums, and piano and polyphonic textures
of the bass, piano, and drums playing various different melodies. This created a great deal of tension
with made for a not so tonal rhythm. In this part, the ice skater is doing a lot of starting and
stopping, stumbling. The piece ended with a short, but complete cadence that resolved the

Analysis Of Music In The Ballad Of Gregorio Cortez
Music is sound organized by humans; audible statement that mirrors a way of life or a way of
thinking; a language spoken directly, without translation, between people who understand. In this
class we studied liberal arts, and how it uses general intellectual development rather than opposed
training, to develop a musical analysis of music such as "The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez". To
develop an analysis, we group the organization of music into five musical elements rhythm, melody,
harmony, texture, and form, and we find some type of organization or order in these pieces like
pulse and background instruments to help identify these elements. The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez
genre is a corrido, which is a Mexican/ Mexican American popular narrative song and poetry form.
The sorry of the corrido is when Cortina became a Mexican hero when he shot a deputy/ marshal in
the 1850's for the mistreating one of his mother's young servants. This incident led to an open
conflict with the American authorities. This story represented the struggles that the people were
facing in the region and Cortez's ability to evade capture. This corrido was taken place in American
in Texas along the Mexico border. He was captured for the murders that he committed and was
sentenced to life in prison. The first Musical element that was included in the class was rhythm.
Rhythm is an element of music that deals with the arrangement of sound and silences in relation to
time. To describe the rhythm of The Ballad

Symphony 3 And Symphony 5 Comparison
In this essay, I will discuss two specific symphonies, Symphony No.3 and Symphony No.5, which
are composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827) was a German
composer that stood out as one of the most famous and influential composers, in both Classical era
and in the entire history of music. Beethoven was born in a family of talented musicians, both of his
father and grandfather. He composed nine symphonies, thirty–five piano sonatas, in which thirty–
two are numbered, ten violin sonatas, sixteen string quartets, an opera and two mass. From all of his
works, nine of his symphonies are greatly known by people, and each of them all masterpieces.
Symphony No.3 and Symphony No.5 are the most famous symphonies, and these are what I'm
going to discuss. Both of the symphony have four movements. The first movement of both
symphonies is "Allegro con brio," which means very fast and lively. This only defines the tempo
and liveliness are similar in both opening of the symphonies. Also, like most first movements of all
Classical symphonies, the first movement is written in the structure of a sonata form. The form
typically consists of an exposition, development, recapitulation, and coda. Although they are alike,
there's still having ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Symphony No.5, the third movement is in ternary form. The movement opens soft and slow and
the liveliness has not awakened until the whole orchestra gradually goes into a full crescendo and
replays the four–note motive again. Contrary to Symphony No.5, the quick crescendo in strings then
followed by flutes almost instantly sprang the scherzo of Eroica into its liveliness. As one can easily
notice, almost everything is played in staccato for Eroica. In both of these symphonies, Beethoven
makes use of many crescendos and very commonly climaxed them off by the loud sounding of

Essay On English Ambiguity
On Different Types of English Ambiguity
【Abstract】 Ambiguity is a wide phenomenon in all languages, including in English. Sometimes,
ambiguity can cause lots of problems if people fail to handle the ambiguity in English properly.
Thus, learning English ambiguity turns to be rather important and rational solutions to erase
ambiguity help people better convey and receive information. This paper analyses different types of
"ambiguity" in English from aspects of the phonological, the lexical, the syntactic and the
pragmatic, and illustrates several approaches to eliminate ambiguity.

Different types of ambiguity 3.1 Phonological ambiguity In linguistics, phonological ambiguity is a
type of ambiguity that arises out of the fact that words sound identical, but in fact have different
meanings. Besides, phonological ambiguity only occurs in spoken English(邱淑德 英语歧义1998).
There are three main reasons of phonological ambiguity: intonation ambiguity, liaison ambiguity
and homophony ambiguity
3.1.1 Intonation
Different from Chinese, a tone language, English is an intonation language. As a musical element of
an utterance, intonation is defined as the variation of the voice pitch when speaking. In spoken
English, when people say words with more than one syllable or sentence with different intonation
placements, ambiguity usually occurs for people's different perceptions of information. Observing
the following example with different intonation:

Michelangelo's creation is his interpretation of the biblical figure of David. "The brave David stands

as a symbol of youthful beauty and human strength (History)." "Michelangelo's hero is at rest, in a

straight posture shows balance and clarity within the sculpture, which is why most people would
consider this piece of art work ethos. "In contrast, Bernini's sculpture captures the young hero in the

For an instrument someone expects to be minor in an orchestra, the double bass surprising. The
double bass, which is part of the violin family, is the largest and lowest sounding timbre acting as an
acoustic bass guitar. The double bass also is featured in most orchestra's string section, concertos,
and modern music. It wasn't till the jazz era when blues, rock and roll, and bluegrass contributed to a
new vision of composition. Traditional the double bass is bowed. Bows are usually made up of horse

What Does Ethnomusicology Mean When They Say
Travis LaMothe
Mufhl 330 Online
Homework 1
Chapter 1
1) What does ethnomusicology mean when they say, "Music is universal, but it is not a universal
language"?
What they mean is that music is found within every single civilization on the planet, no matter
where you look; ergo universal. However, while some music may draw inspiration from one culture
or person to the next, music in these cultures do not have equivalent meanings or relationships to
other cultures. They all have their own style of music as well as what meaning the music has to
them.
2) What are the potential problems in classifying music as "classical," "folk," or "popular"?
Those terms are used as opinions placed on genres or certain pieces of music. Opinions may differ
from person to person and even culture to culture, as popular music will be different depending on
what country you are in. By classifying music in such a way, we could be less inclined to like music
that isn't the same, and therefore stereotyping new stuff for the simple fact that they are new.
3) How might an ethnomusicologist approach the study of Western classical music differently from
a musicologist?
An ethnomusicologist is a person who studies the relationship between the people and culture of
music and the music itself while a musicologist analyzes and studies the musical piece itself.
Therefore, an ethnomusicologist would approach Western classical music by looking at the history
and culture which created and cultivated the piece of

Compare And Contrast Tchaikovsky And Beethoven
Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky and Ludwig van Beethoven are two predominant musical figures of the
classical and romantic periods of music and are both highly regarded for their symphonies and
quartets. Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and Ludwig van Beethoven's Third Symphony
have effectively manipulated musical elements to convey the trauma and horrors of war. These two
milestone pieces of music efficiently and elaborately display the different aspects of the Battle of
Borodino using musical elements, form and instruments to convey the concept of war.
Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture in E flat major, Opus 49 was composed to celebrate Russia's defeat of
Napoleon's Grand Army at the Battle of Borodino in 1812 and is undoubtedly his best known work.
However, Tchaikovsky did not feel as much enthusiasm for his work and described the piece as
"very loud and noisy". The piece was first performed at the consecration of the Cathedral of Christ
the Savior in 1882, as it was built in recognition of the Russian victory during the Battle of
Borodino (Lampson, 1996). 1812 Overture was composed in 1812 during the romantic period of
music and displays many different themes. The piece was composed in eleven sections, beginning
with asking God for assistance during the battle and concludes with Czar's Anthem to symbolise
Russia's victory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

However, when Napoleon proclaimed himself to be the 'Emperor of the French' in 1804, Beethoven

Classical Era Research Paper
The Baroque and the Classical time era differ greatly due to the fact that they are close to 2000 years
apart. The Baroque era started with a texture as polyphony and gradually shifted to a homophony.
This era of music was all about emotions and expression, through the use of instruments sometimes
with voices as well. It started as very intense music, shifting between extremes, but eventually
became more standardized with predictable forms and procedures. Everything was done with
elaborate decoration and was very extravagant. The Baroque was very dramatic, just as the Classical
era was when performing either an opera seria or an opera buffa. The Classical era was created and
alive during the Enlightenment. This era was more about clarity and ... Show more content on

The Baroque styles were more grandeur due to the fact that they were often created for special
occasions such as operas for royal weddings or cantanta for religious services. An important creation
during the Baroque era was the major minor tonality, which became the most powerful force in
music. It helped shape a musical structure and allowed forms of instrumental music larger than ever
before. Other contributing factors to the style of this era were the bass continuo, which provided
foundation for where a vocal or instrumental melody could unfold, and equal temperament, which
made it possible to play in every major and minor key without sounding horrid. Within the Classical
era the style was much more elegant. They tried to achieve clarity within their music by the use of
repetition and the frequent use of sequence. The sounds were all very bold and most had a steady
tempo. The opera seria, serious or tragic opera, was mainly demonstrated by recitative and aria,
while the opera buffa, comic opera, had more down to earth plot lines. Both Baroque and Classical
used operas to convey emotions. Although the operas were widely different, each had a libretto
trying to achieve a sense of connection with the

Analyzing Randall Thompson´s The Road Not Taken
On Thursday, 9 October 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the Alys Robinson Stephens Performing Arts Center
UAB choirs performed eleven pieces; these included Exultate justi, Frostiana, Wedding Cantata,
Zion's Walls, Cantate Domino, Bogoroditse Devo, Ehre sei Gotte in der Höhe, Mid–Winter Songs,
Belleilakka, and This Little Light of Mine.
Exultate justi by Lodovico Viadana was an allegro sacred motet with. Its polyphony made it
interesting to listen to. It had a pure tone that I found nice.
Frostiana by Randall Thompson is a seven movement chorale piece; however only three movement
were performed: I. The Road Not Taken, II. The Pasture, and V. A Girl's Garden. The Road Not
Taken had a melancholy tone and a slow tempo; this made me feel pensive as I listened to it. The at
the end of this piece fermata that the conductor elongated felt most appropriate. The Pasture
contrasted nicely with Road Not Taken; it was bright and hopeful. A Girls Garden had a fast tempo;
it told a story and was melisma with a spoken feel. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I found this piece very interesting; it tells a clear story, and has a dissonant accompanist which
makes it sound stylistically similar to the music of musical theatre.
The next piece, Zion's Walls by Aaron Copland, was a mid–tempo spiritual that seemed to continue
the story from Wedding Cantata. I appreciated the lively piano accompaniment. The theme was
compelling and I liked the short round in the

How To Write Kanji Essay
Kanji is unique language in the world. This language is not like English that makes the word with
consonant and vowel letters. Kanji has the morphographic language that one letter with the meaning
and the pronunciation, and there are more than 2000 letters of Kanji in Japanese Language. If we are
learning Japanese, we have to memorize many Kanji characters with meaning and sound because
Japanese uses Kanji a lot in their society. However, actually knowing Kanji is hard for many people.
Even native Japanese people sometimes do not know how to read Kanji, which is rarely used.
Therefore, there is a debate that about abolishing Kanji. Does Japanese actually need to use Kanji?
Japanese language has already two phonographic scripts, Hiragana and Katakana, so some of people
can argue that Japanese does not need Kanji is too complicated to learn Japanese. However, in my
opinion, Kanji abolishment is not a good choice for Japanese for tradition and uniqueness.
There is an article "Aspects of the graphological structure of Japanese" written by A. E. Backhouse.
Backhouse introduces the Kanji system and both native–Japanese and Sino–Japanese homography
and homophony. He gives some examples of Japanese words that have same sounds and different
meanings such as Soko, which has two meanings, the place and the bottom. In addition, he
introduces the similar meaning but different using such as Atsui, means hot or warm. These are

Didos Lament

Messiah: Ev'ry Valley
By: Tabitha Watkins
ARTS/340
Mood is the affections (to impress the mid or move the feelings of our emotions, emotional
response). Composers of this time shaped or molded a musical language to depict the affections.
Music is written to fit the needs of society in our always changing world. Church music during this
time was very elaborate and music was usually only heard in the churches and if you were wealth
enough during that time you could go hear music in public opera houses. Religious music was a
huge part of baroque era; it saw the creation of tonality, made changes in musical notation, and
developed new instrumental playing techniques.

This piece is based upon the scriptural text from the King James Bible it was first performed in
Dublin in 1742; Handel makes use of the renaissance technique of word painting and multi–part
polyphony. It uses fascinating word painting and is repeated throughout the piece. This piece comes
from the oratorio called Messiah; it is the third piece of Messiah. It is the combination of
homophony and polyphony with the addition of two trumpets. There are also two oboes, two violins,
a viola, and a basso continuo. The use of basso continuo (instrumental accompaniment) requires a
chordal instrument and a thoroughbass.
When we put Purcells Didos lament next to Handels Messiah in order to compare and contrast them
you will notice some interesting things; to start they are both a different genre since one was created
during the Baroque time period and the other in the classical, obviously they are both composed by a
different person, Didos lament is an opera aria whereas Ev'ry valley is an oratorio aria. Operas
purpose is secular entertainment which is usually performed in a theater and is fully dramatic with
staging and costumes. Oratorios purpose is sacred entertainment which is also performed in a theater
but is a concert type. The both have the same musical form of a recitative and they are both
accompanied by an orchestra. Both the opera and Oratorios were made around the same time. To

The Little Mermaid Comparison
Hans Christian Anderson's 1975 rendition of "The Little Mermaid" borrows heavily from the themes
and story of the 1960's version of the animation with the same name. Traditionally, the
Soyuzmultfilm was a tool for advancing Soviet propaganda. The animation studio was founded
when Russian politics was dominated by communism propaganda. The authorities wanted to send
information to their recognizable enemies, who were fascists, imperialists, and capitalists. In
Anderson's version, Ariel is the youngest daughter who grows increasingly upset with life at the
bottom of the sea. Consequently, she decides to be with the humans above the water. She gets into

it is visible that the producer uses the color red to depict the sun in " The Little Mermaid" in 1975.

Louis Armstrong Conform To A Polyphonic Form
Intro–
Facts– Back in 1928, a jazz song was recorded in Chicago. The hit song, West End Blues, was
played by Louis Armstrong and his friends, the Hot Five. The song was written by Joe "King"
Oliver, the mentor of Armstrong.
A texture is a musical relationship among ensemble parts. There are three textures in "West End
Blues", monophonic, homophonic, and polyphonic. Monophony is musical texture of a single
melodic line and nothing else. The intro is monophonic because Louis Armstrong is playing his
trumpet solo. Homophony is musical musical texture of one melody with block cords. A trombone
solo, vocables and a clarinet duet, and a piano solo all fit into this texture. Polyphony is a musical
texture of two or more melodic parts preformed together. The head, or main theme of the song, is
polyphonic by having all of the instruments play heterogeneously. ... Show more content on

musical repetition. What you will notice is that the melody would repeat throughout the song but the
lyrics would change. In this case, the melody of the West End Blues is repeating but the instruments

Classical Era Music
Question 1.)
Listening to this symphonic piece it seems to have many characteristics of a piece from the Classical
Period in the Classical Era. I do not believe that this is a piece from the 20/21st Century because
doesn't fall into the many subcategories of the music of that period. This piece could not be from the
"atonal phase" where the music avoids what is considered a tonal center. It could not be considered
to a be a piece from modernism, populism, serialism, experimentalism, minimalism, or post
modernism as it is structured and follows many of the characteristics of the Classical Period and
Era. Listening to the entire piece I noticed a variety of meter and tempo changes the piece seemed to

believe that the texture is homophony, this texture was typical in the Classical Era. The piece also
highlighted instruments in solos in this piece. In 0:36–0:47 and beautiful violin solo is featured and
other solos are featured throughout the piece. I believe that the piece is in sonata form, which is
appropriate for the era I believe this piece to be in. In sonata form we can hear the exposition start

recognizable at approximately 9:26. Overall, I thought that this was a beautiful piece and I found the

Organ Synthesis Essay
The organ is a beautifully complex instrument. In the performance by Dr. Stephen Self, the vast
ability of both the instrument and the organist were exhibited. Before a note was played, the
splendor of the instrument could be observed with the beauty and multitude of the pipes visible in
the facade. The majesty of the event continued with the confidence and calmness with which Dr.
Self approached the organ console. With the first note, the resonance of the organ was
communicated. From a memorable piece to a technical performance, a relaxing melody to a
powerful piece, this performance displayed the versatility of the organ and the organist alike. Louis
Vierne's Westminster Carillon was the performance that resounded most with me through both the
form and melody. The form demonstrated in Vierne's piece included a significant amount of
repetition. There was a sense of recognition within the song when a section of the melody was
repeated. Not only was the repetition of the melody memorable, but the melody itself was as well.
As Vierne used a church bell tower tune as some of the inspiration for this piece, the melody of the
bell tower was enduring. The replication of the light, brassy timbre of a bell tower that the organ
produced during the performance also made this piece distinct. The ... Show more content on

The meter and rhythm in the section were significantly less distinct. However, there was a sense of
harmony displayed at the beginning that reappeared more than once before this section ended.
Likewise, the Fugue also demonstrated harmony, but it also presented the use of homophony. As

choose three songs, that are very close to me and that have been very close to my heart, which
makes these songs important to me and special to me. These three songs include Chrome, I'm Trying
and You're Gonna Miss This all by Trace Adkins. I choose these songs because each one of these
songs has changed me or someone I know and love in a certain way, which have mostly been in a
positive way. Trace Adkins has been my favorite singer since I can remember. I got to meet him in

Monophony Research Paper
Monophony, Polyphony, Heterophony, and Homophony are all textures of music. The
texture of music is the structure of the different parts. Monophony music is that in which only
has one part, while polyphony music consists of multiple parts. Heterophony and homophony
are like polyphony, they have multiple parts. Homophony is when the multiple parts move with
the same rhythm, this is also referred to as chordal music. Heterophony is when an
accompaniment is added.
Monophony is the simplest texture of music, it means "one sound" and describes music
with one line of melody. It can be sung by one or many people, they just have to sing the same
notes and rhythm. Some examples of monophony are Happy Birthday, the Star–Spangled
Banner, and unison singing at religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It consists of many separate melodies with their own notes and rhythms.
This style requires multiple singer but it can also be done with a single musician playing the
piano, organ, or guitar. This style was mainly used mainly during the Renaissance. If I were to
use a set of lines to describe polyphony music I would draw multiple lines moving up and down
intersecting with each other.
Heterophony is the melody with slight alterations to the melody from person to person.
This style is found mainly in the Native American, Middle Eastern, and South African cultures.
A good example of this is jazz music; each musician puts his own spin on the piece. If I described
Heterophony using a set of lines I would draw two close to each other that look almost the same
but there would be slight differences.
Homophony is the most popular musical texture today. It consists of the melody and the
harmony. The focus is on the melody while the harmony support it. Some examples of this are
our more popular types of music, like rock, wrap, and pop, also accompanied vocal music,

How I Learned Throughout The Semester And Why It Helped Me...
My journey through this semester was very knowledgeable and interesting experience. From
learning about musical techniques and applying it to my songwriting process, it helped me become a
better songwriter. Throughout this reflection, I want to discuss the things I learned throughout the
semester and why it helped my as a songwriter.
Before taking this course, I used to just sing my songs, but never used to write them down.
Throughout, the course I learned that it's important to work on your songs even if it's working on
part of it. Taking time to improve you songs is already a step forward. Starting from lesson two, I
learned the importance of having a strong premise. I found this very useful because then you have
an idea of what your song is going to be about. You start thinking of emotion and storyline you want
to write in the lyrics. For example, if you premise is about heartbreak, then the lyrics will be about a
relationship, with maybe a sad piano accompaniment. Another interesting thing I learned about
lesson two was the articles we read about techniques for finding ways to be inspired when writing a
song. The article that was very useful was Finding Inspiration. From this article, a technique that I
found useful was to write music about yourself or experiences. I found this to be a common thing
for songwriters, according to the book we read In their Own Words, which was very interesting to
read, I found that most of the famous songwriters, for example Dolly

Claudio Monteverdi vs. Domenico Scarlatti Essay
A comparison of two major Baroque composers: Claudio Monteverdi and Domenico Scarlatti The
purpose of this paper is to analyze two psalms by Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi (1567–
1643) and Giovanni Domenico Scarlatti (1685–1757) and compare and contrast the two pieces to
find out how music changed throughout the Baroque period.
While historians grouped music of the Baroque period together based on certain characteristics, the
music did not remain the same throughout the period, as it would not for any other musical time
period. Composers from different points in the Baroque period were chosen, but the things the two
composers had in common were the country of residence and their nationality. Special care was
taken to chose composers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is octave doubling in the bass, and the fifth occurs often since it was considered to be perfect
or somehow godly. What makes this psalm different from Scarlatti's other psalms is that it is the
only psalm that exhibits an organized concerto style. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has no
indicated dynamics. It begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor
throughout the setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation,
consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original manuscript.
Some people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while others feel they may actually
be mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all been transcribed as trills. The main reason for
the lack of ornamentation put into the music is an attempt to make the music less frilly. In the
Baroque era this tooking away from the sacred message it was supposed to send.
While both pieces are a part of each composer's library of sacred music, they are in some respects
not very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the obvious things they have in
common such as the fact that they are written in Latin. That is not too surprising considering some
churches still used Latin as the primary language in their services, even though in the Baroque
period many churches began using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services.
Aside from that, Monteverdi, being more

Canzona Septimi No. 2 Analysis

  • 1. Canzona Septimi No. 2 Analysis The eight–part collection for various combinations of trumpets and trombones, Canzona septimi toni no. 2 by Giovanni Gabrieli, employs antiphony as a means of taking advantage of church acoustics. His strategic separation of two instrumental groups illuminates the dialogic structure of Gabrieli's composition. It's meter alternates between duple and triple, finally returning to duple meter pending the completion of the piece . In terms of harmony, the work contains mainly homophony, again, alternating between both instrumental groups placed antiphonally within the church. The through– composed canzona exhibits Gabrieli's cultivation of musical material in dialogue between instrumental groups. The timbre, meter, and antiphony utilized in Gabrieli's ... • 3. How Did Mozart Contribute To The Classical Period? Mozart was a prolific and most influential composer of the classical era. As a mere toddler he began to observe his sister's lessons with their father, developing a keen ear, and showing signs of surprising comprehension. His father, Leopold, was himself a successful composer, violinist and assistant concert master of the Salzburg Court. Both Mozart and his sister were tutored by their father, a dedicated and task–oriented pedagogue. Young Mozart progressed anon, excelling even above his father's pedagogic genius. At the verdant age of six, he performed as a child prodigy at royal courts in London, Paris, and Zurich. Mozart's youth was spent fully engaged in touring and performance. These tours were financed through donors and patrons. Through the years, and while abroad, Mozart met many accomplished musicians such as Johann ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Composing works derived from styles already in existence, he created an extremely unique and unprecedented genre of works. Thus Mozart became a trailblazer of the classical age. Music from this period consists largely of a lighter and clearer texture than the preceding Baroque music and is less intricate. One trademark especially evident in Mozart's contribution to the classical period is the use of homophony. Examples of the homophonic effect are displayed in his piano concerto No. 23 and sonata No 16 in C. In these, the distinct pattern of an indubitable melody can be distinctly and easily recognized above the adjunct chordal accompaniment. Although Mozart contributed primarily to the growth of the classical era, he was also influenced by the works of Handel and Bach. Both were prominent composers of the baroque era. In some of his later works, Mozart indulged more in the incorporation of the previous baroque ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Performance Of The Symphony No.9 The performance of the Symphony No.9 by Beethoven, conducted by Lenard Bernstein, was a magnificent piece that captured all the emotion of the people, from the sorrow of those lost in the war to the joy of the freedom they had just acquired. This piece was placed in Berlin to celebrate the uniting of East and West Germany. It was performed in the restored Schauspiel house, which had been completely destroyed during the war. It was restored to be one of the world's finest concert halls. This performance was such a large, historic event that it was televised in over 20 different countries. Lenard Bernstein even took this event as seriously as to change the lyrics of the last movement from the German word for "joy" to the German word for "freedom" to commemorate the momentous occasion. The performing forces for this event were quite elaborate. The Bavereon Radio Orchestra was joined by the Staatskapelle Dresden, the Orchestra of the Leningrad Kirov Theatre, the London symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, and the Paris Orchestra. In regards to vocalists, the Baverien Radio chorus sung in addition to the Berlin radio chorus and the children's chorus of the Dresden Philharmonic. The soloists were June Anderson, Sara Walker, Klaus Konig, and Jan Hendrik Rootering. One interesting thing to note about the conductor is that while conducting the orchestra he didn't have any music sheets. He knew the music so well that he didn't need to have it in front of him. ... • 7. The Classical Era Of Music Music throughout the eras have differed and changed since the beginning of time. Each era has something special about it that is different from the last era, which makes each era something unique from the last. Just as in fashion you see trends change sometimes over night, but in the eyes of a decade, these changes are eras of fashion, just as the eras of music. Composers took the knowledge from previous composers and put their own ideas to use and sometimes created ground breaking movements. The movement between the Baroque era and the Classical era was a movement of almost all changes. Changes from the melody to the form of the composition. The Classical era following the Baroque era was full of changes, differing from one another drastically. The Baroque period began around the 1600's until around the 1750's. The Baroque era of music was one of the most revolutionary periods in music history. This era saw the development of functional tonality, brought new instrumental playing techniques and more elaborate and complex compositions. Baroque music was complex, tonal, and had clear common patterns of chords. This era also featured many well–known composers, such as Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi. This era also brought about developments in musical terms and concepts which are still used in today's music. With the Classical era following the Baroque era from 1750–1825, the Classical era was much of a contrast to its preceding periods of musical history. Pieces composed in this ... • 9. How Did Classical Music Develop Throughout The 19th And... Introduction The music of the 19th and 20th centuries is classified as late Classical and Romantic periods. During this time frame, composers such as Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Mendelssohn, and Schumann thrived. Throughout the 1800s, music was extremely diverse in composition and performance, and much of the music centered on people's religious preferences and nationality. In the 1800s, the Romantic Era helped introduce bold and more dissonant pieces, which were longer and more complex than previous classical music. This boldness in music creation helped listeners identify with each composer's unique, individual style and decipher between musicians during performances. Musical ideas such as homophony, public concerts, and orchestras expanded during the early 1800s. Homophony, referencing clear melody and accompaniment helped musicians and ... A tritone is formed between the C# of the cellos and the repetition of G by the violins. Musical Textures: Allegro con brio has two main themes, with the first played by a multitude of instruments including flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, horns, and multiple strings. The second movement helps calmly transition the piece to the development section. In this third section, Beethoven introduces a third theme, thus breaking the normal ideology with classical music that the development section recycles material previously played in the movement. Therefore, this first movement of Symphony No. 3 has the most diverse textural material. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Has Music Evolved During The Middle Ages From the ninth century up to the end of the eighteenth century Western music has grown from serious liturgy church music to a more enlightened and complex yet simple to the listener forms. There are four periods of music during this span of time that will be discussed, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance era, the Baroque era, and the Classical era that will describe how music has evolved during these time periods. During the earlier Middle Ages (around the ninth century) music was controlled by the Christian church. The music that the Catholic Church sponsored was the chanting of words from sacred writings of the service that was being celebrated, this chant or plainchant was commonly down as the Gregorian chant. Analysis Of Louis Armstrong's 'West End Blues' For this analysis on Louis Armstrong's West End Blues, I am going to concentrate on Louis Armstrong and how influential he was in the birth of Swing. He was extremely innovative in the way he played his instrument. Louis Armstrong had a brilliant trumpet sound. His power, range, and his rhythmic approach are all trademarks of his playing in the 1920s and 1930s. West End Blues is still considered one of the most influential and classic pieces in the Jazz Industry. I will explain why by breaking down the song utilizing the five elements of music; form, harmony, texture, melody, and rhythm. Rhythm is the element of time in music. The Performers included Peter Bouffard on guitar, Paul Haar on saxophone, Dave Hall on drums, Tom Larson on piano, Hans Sturm on bass, and Darryl White on trumpet. The first piece was A Cord of Three Strands composed by Darryl White. It was in a minor mode and was in triple meter. The piece started off with a calm piano dynamic and homophonic texture with the trumpet playing the melody over the drums, bass, and piano playing a countermelody underneath. The trumpet soon fades out with a cadence and the saxophone comes in with a deeper more calming sound than the trumpet, again with a homophonic texture. The piece reminds me of a calm pouring rain. When the saxophone and trumpet are included, the rain picks up and when it is just the drums, bass, and piano it is like a slight drizzle of rain. The piece fizzles out in the end with a clam cadence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The piece starts of with a light sound and homophonic texture. There is a combination between a homophonic texture of saxophone and trumpet over bass, drums, and piano and polyphonic textures of the bass, piano, and drums playing various different melodies. Analysis Of Music In The Ballad Of Gregorio Cortez Music is sound organized by humans; audible statement that mirrors a way of life or a way of thinking; a language spoken directly, without translation, between people who understand. In this class we studied liberal arts, and how it uses general intellectual development rather than opposed training, to develop a musical analysis of music such as "The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez". To develop an analysis, we group the organization of music into five musical elements rhythm, melody, harmony, texture, and form, and we find some type of organization or order in these pieces like pulse and background instruments to help identify these elements. The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez genre is a corrido, which is a Mexican/ Mexican American popular narrative song and poetry form. The sorry of the corrido is when Cortina became a Mexican hero when he shot a deputy/ marshal in the 1850's for the mistreating one of his mother's young servants. This incident led to an open conflict with the American authorities. This story represented the struggles that the people were facing in the region and Cortez's ability to evade capture. This corrido was taken place in American in Texas along the Mexico border. He was captured for the murders that he committed and was sentenced to life in prison. Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827) was a German composer that stood out as one of the most famous and influential composers, in both Classical era and in the entire history of music. Beethoven was born in a family of talented musicians, both of his father and grandfather. He composed nine symphonies, thirty–five piano sonatas, in which thirty– two are numbered, ten violin sonatas, sixteen string quartets, an opera and two mass. From all of his works, nine of his symphonies are greatly known by people, and each of them all masterpieces. Symphony No.3 and Symphony No.5 are the most famous symphonies, and these are what I'm going to discuss. Both of the symphony have four movements. The first movement of both symphonies is "Allegro con brio," which means very fast and lively. This only defines the tempo and liveliness are similar in both opening of the symphonies. Also, like most first movements of all Classical symphonies, the first movement is written in the structure of a sonata form. Different types of ambiguity 3.1 Phonological ambiguity In linguistics, phonological ambiguity is a type of ambiguity that arises out of the fact that words sound identical, but in fact have different meanings. Besides, phonological ambiguity only occurs in spoken English(邱淑德 英语歧义1998). There are three main reasons of phonological ambiguity: intonation ambiguity, liaison ambiguity and homophony ambiguity 3.1.1 Intonation Different from Chinese, a tone language, English is an intonation language. Listening Assignment 4: Texture Listening assignment 4– Texture Thanks to previous assignments where we listened to certain pieces multiple times I was able to have an idea of what to identify each section as. From listening to just the first piece "Gaude Maria Virgo", I got a sensation of it being a sacred piece and possible from the medieval era; further more I was able to notice a slow moving bottom voice, along with a Capella and elongation of a chant. This immediately triggered the idea that all of section A was most likely pieces that represented polyphony, as I also recognized the piece "Alleluia" as a constant melody and the rest having similar contours and rhythms. • 35. What Does Ethnomusicology Mean When They Say Travis LaMothe Mufhl 330 Online Homework 1 Chapter 1 1) What does ethnomusicology mean when they say, "Music is universal, but it is not a universal language"? What they mean is that music is found within every single civilization on the planet, no matter where you look; ergo universal. However, while some music may draw inspiration from one culture or person to the next, music in these cultures do not have equivalent meanings or relationships to other cultures. They all have their own style of music as well as what meaning the music has to them. 2) What are the potential problems in classifying music as "classical," "folk," or "popular"? Those terms are used as opinions placed on genres or certain pieces of music. Opinions may differ from person to person and even culture to culture, as popular music will be different depending on what country you are in. By classifying music in such a way, we could be less inclined to like music that isn't the same, and therefore stereotyping new stuff for the simple fact that they are new. 3) How might an ethnomusicologist approach the study of Western classical music differently from a musicologist? An ethnomusicologist is a person who studies the relationship between the people and culture of music and the music itself while a musicologist analyzes and studies the musical piece itself. Therefore, an ethnomusicologist would approach Western classical music by looking at the history and culture which created and cultivated the piece of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare And Contrast Tchaikovsky And Beethoven Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky and Ludwig van Beethoven are two predominant musical figures of the classical and romantic periods of music and are both highly regarded for their symphonies and quartets. Pyotr Il'yich Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture and Ludwig van Beethoven's Third Symphony have effectively manipulated musical elements to convey the trauma and horrors of war. These two milestone pieces of music efficiently and elaborately display the different aspects of the Battle of Borodino using musical elements, form and instruments to convey the concept of war. Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture in E flat major, Opus 49 was composed to celebrate Russia's defeat of Napoleon's Grand Army at the Battle of Borodino in 1812 and is undoubtedly his best known work. However, Tchaikovsky did not feel as much enthusiasm for his work and described the piece as "very loud and noisy". The piece was first performed at the consecration of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in 1882, as it was built in recognition of the Russian victory during the Battle of Borodino (Lampson, 1996). 1812 Overture was composed in 1812 during the romantic period of music and displays many different themes. The Baroque era started with a texture as polyphony and gradually shifted to a homophony. This era of music was all about emotions and expression, through the use of instruments sometimes with voices as well. It started as very intense music, shifting between extremes, but eventually became more standardized with predictable forms and procedures. The Baroque styles were more grandeur due to the fact that they were often created for special occasions such as operas for royal weddings or cantanta for religious services. An important creation during the Baroque era was the major minor tonality, which became the most powerful force in music. It helped shape a musical structure and allowed forms of instrumental music larger than ever before. Other contributing factors to the style of this era were the bass continuo, which provided foundation for where a vocal or instrumental melody could unfold, and equal temperament, which made it possible to play in every major and minor key without sounding horrid. Within the Classical era the style was much more elegant. They tried to achieve clarity within their music by the use of repetition and the frequent use of sequence. The sounds were all very bold and most had a steady tempo. The opera seria, serious or tragic opera, was mainly demonstrated by recitative and aria, while the opera buffa, comic opera, had more down to earth plot lines. Both Baroque and Classical used operas to convey emotions. Although the operas were widely different, each had a libretto trying to achieve a sense of connection with the ... The majesty of the event continued with the confidence and calmness with which Dr. Self approached the organ console. With the first note, the resonance of the organ was communicated. From a memorable piece to a technical performance, a relaxing melody to a powerful piece, this performance displayed the versatility of the organ and the organist alike. Monophony is the simplest texture of music, it means "one sound" and describes music with one line of melody. It can be sung by one or many people, they just have to sing the same notes and rhythm. Some examples of monophony are Happy Birthday, the Star–Spangled Banner, and unison singing at religious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It consists of many separate melodies with their own notes and rhythms. This style requires multiple singer but it can also be done with a single musician playing the piano, organ, or guitar. This style was mainly used mainly during the Renaissance. If I were to use a set of lines to describe polyphony music I would draw multiple lines moving up and down intersecting with each other. Heterophony is the melody with slight alterations to the melody from person to person. This style is found mainly in the Native American, Middle Eastern, and South African cultures. A good example of this is jazz music; each musician puts his own spin on the piece. If I described

  • 71. How I Learned Throughout The Semester And Why It Helped Me... My journey through this semester was very knowledgeable and interesting experience. From learning about musical techniques and applying it to my songwriting process, it helped me become a better songwriter. Throughout this reflection, I want to discuss the things I learned throughout the semester and why it helped my as a songwriter. Before taking this course, I used to just sing my songs, but never used to write them down. Throughout, the course I learned that it's important to work on your songs even if it's working on part of it. Taking time to improve you songs is already a step forward. Starting from lesson two, I learned the importance of having a strong premise. I found this very useful because then you have an idea of what your song is going to be about. You start thinking of emotion and storyline you want to write in the lyrics. For example, if you premise is about heartbreak, then the lyrics will be about a relationship, with maybe a sad piano accompaniment. Another interesting thing I learned about lesson two was the articles we read about techniques for finding ways to be inspired when writing a song. The article that was very useful was Finding Inspiration. From this article, a technique that I found useful was to write music about yourself or experiences. I found this to be a common thing for songwriters, according to the book we read In their Own Words, which was very interesting to read, I found that most of the famous songwriters, for example Dolly ... • 73. Essay On Bring It On The Toms River High School North's Nautical Star Theater Company presented the musical, Bring It On, this past weekend. It was at auditorium of my home school, Toms River High School. Bring It On was a tremendously relatable play, with a great amount of action; it is a recent play that came out in 2000, so the costuming and music was very modern. The concert environment was very familiar to me because like I said, I attended High School North; therefore, I felt at home. To be honest, the seats were and always have been very uncomfortable due to them being hard plastic; it is not so bad if you are just sitting on them for a couple of minutes, but after a while it becomes horrific. On a positive note, the auditorium was very clean, making it very welcoming. The temperature was very cold in the lobby, though as I went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believed this was the most upbeat song of the entire musical with the full cast on stage dancing and singing and the pit orchestra playing along. The tempo is vivace, it is in quadruple meter, and the tonality is major, being in the key of F major. "I Got You" has a dynamic marking between mezzo forte and forte, depending on the part of the song. All three textures– monophony, homophony, and polyphony are used. Again, repetition is found a various numbers of times as the lyrics, "i got you" are sang. The timbre is composed of the entire pit orchestra; two guitars, two pianos, a drum set, a bass, and other percussion instruments, but the drum set is heavily featured. The timbre is also composed of the male and female singers on stage, varying in all voice types– soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. "I Got You" was the most entertaining and lively song of the show with the differing pitches of voices, lyrics, and dance parts. I truly enjoyed this number the most and it made for a great ending of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 75. Third Time Music Analysis The first song is sung in the very beginning of the documentary, when the landscape is shown. The man who sings and the social situation, however, is not shown. I'm fairly certain this song is the same song that is heard the second time music is heard. The second time music is heard in the video is when the women are cooking and the grandfather is singing with the baby in his arms. This tribal songs a strophic form and it is sung with a terraced contour. He sings acapella in duple meter and in moderato. Because this is sung in the navajos nature environment, we can conclude that it is a field recording. It is difficult to hear the meter, but I think it is duple meter. This is also an example of tribal music. The fourth time music is heard is when the children are chopping wood. This music is different from the other songs that is played, it is a clear example popular music. It is a homophonic studio recording in duple meter. The tempo is most likely allegro. The accompaniment consists of a complete rhythm section: one membranophone (drums), and three chordals; two chordophones (guitar and bass), and an electronophone (synthesizer). The fifth time music is heard is when the women are cooking some form of flat bread. The old man is singing a song that sounds very similar to the second song that is heard in the film. It is another field recording of a standard tribal song, sung in acappella. The tempo is moderato in duple meter. The sixth time music is heard is during the third day of the young girls puberty ceremony. In their song, the men are praying for health, good property, good stock, and good health. • 77. Claudio Monteverdi vs. Domenico Scarlatti Essay A comparison of two major Baroque composers: Claudio Monteverdi and Domenico Scarlatti The purpose of this paper is to analyze two psalms by Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi (1567– 1643) and Giovanni Domenico Scarlatti (1685–1757) and compare and contrast the two pieces to find out how music changed throughout the Baroque period. While historians grouped music of the Baroque period together based on certain characteristics, the music did not remain the same throughout the period, as it would not for any other musical time period. Composers from different points in the Baroque period were chosen, but the things the two composers had in common were the country of residence and their nationality. Special care was taken to chose composers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is octave doubling in the bass, and the fifth occurs often since it was considered to be perfect or somehow godly. What makes this psalm different from Scarlatti's other psalms is that it is the only psalm that exhibits an organized concerto style. This psalm is also written in Latin, and has no indicated dynamics. It begins in D major, and switches to A and E major, and b and a minor throughout the setting, and ends back on D major. The piece does have some ornamentation, consisting of argued trills. The argument comes from odd markings on the original manuscript. Some people feel that the markings were just hastily drawn trills, while others feel they may actually be mordants. In the newest transcription, they have all been transcribed as trills. The main reason for the lack of ornamentation put into the music is an attempt to make the music less frilly. In the Baroque era this tooking away from the sacred message it was supposed to send. While both pieces are a part of each composer's library of sacred music, they are in some respects not very much alike and in others they are very similar. There are the obvious things they have in common such as the fact that they are written in Latin. That is not too surprising considering some churches still used Latin as the primary language in their services, even though in the Baroque period many churches began using the vernacular so the patrons would understand the services. Aside from that, Monteverdi, being more ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 79. Concert Analysis: The Philadelphia Orchestra The Philadelphia Orchestra Percussion Group performed at Widener University on October 23, 2016. The concert lasted approximately one hour and a total of five pieces were performed. The pieces they performed were called, Music of Pieces of Wood, Gainsborough, Seoul Spirit, Zones, and Little Rhumba. The group consisted of five performers, Chris Deviney, Don Liuzzi, Angela Nelson, Phillip O'Banion, and Victor Pablo. The performers used a variety of percussion instruments throughout the concert; however, some of the instruments that were used in most of the pieces were the timpani, marimbas, chimes, cymbals, and bass drums. My general reaction to the concert was that it was very relaxing and enjoyable. I was impressed with the musicians and the way they performed. The musicians were rhythmically together and seemed very prepared for the concert. The visual setup was attracting because the musicians had a variety of instruments displayed, some of which I never seen before. The atmosphere was relaxed yet intense upon the performers, which made me more attentive. The performers seemed to have put a lot of energy into the concert. I ... The first movement is lively and features quick lines between the marimbas, with interruptions from the timpani. The second movement is slow and has more of a harsh sound to it. A jazzy recitative also appears in the middle of this movement, in order to change the dynamics. The last movement is quick and rhythmically active. This movement employs the concepts of melody and harmony, just not in conventional ways. Hearing the glockenspiel and marimbas helped to carry the melody.
