Candidiasis is a yeast infection caused by an overgrowth of the candida fungus, which normally lives in small amounts in the human body. There are several types of candidiasis, including thrush (oral infection), genital yeast infections, diaper rash from yeast, and invasive candidiasis (life-threatening bloodstream infection). Symptoms vary depending on location but may include white or yellow patches, redness, swelling, burning or itching sensations, and thick discharge. Candidiasis is generally treatable with over-the-counter or prescription antifungal medications.
