2. Tutankhamun Accomplishments
Tutankhamun is one of the most famous and instantly recognisable Pharaohs of the
modern world, even though he lived and reigned over 3,000 years ago. The boy
Pharaoh was born under the name Tutankhaten (`living image of Aten ), in 1345
BCE and died in 1327 BCE at the age of just 18 or 19, after only being in power for
10 years. Until archaeologist Howard Carter discovered his almost fully intact tomb
in the Valley of the Kings in 1922 CE, the Pharaoh was almost unheard of due to the
common belief that he was a minor ruler, whose reign was of little consequence.
However, after this discovery and subsequent discoveries due to excavations, analysis
of his mummy and other historical evidence, opinions changed, so much so that
today Tutankhamunis recognized as an important Pharaoh who returned order to

The Los Angeles Lakers are the best because they have had so many stars and hall
famers that played for them. Throughout all the years the Los Angeles Lakers have
been around for about 69 years. The Lakers have made a name for themselves with
the players they had and have as of right now. When the Lakers first started out
they were originally in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They were called the Lakers in
honor of the state s nickname, The Land of 10,000 Lakes. In 1960, Bob Short
moved the NBA franchise to Los Angeles. He did not change the name because
there are also lakes in California. During this time there was the best duo, Jerry
West and Elgin Baylor, these two were lethal on the court. The 1968 time was a new
era for the Los Angeles Lakersbecause the duo now added a new member, Wilt
Chamberlain, making it a trio for the Lakers. Another reason why they are the best is
because of their 33 game winning streak which remains longest winning streak in

CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION Pneumonia is one of the most common infectious
diseases prevalent nowadays and affects all ages. It is an acute or chronic infection
of one or both lungs caused by microorganisms, such as viruses, bacteria or chemical
irritants. (Schmitt, 2011) It has different types, and one of them is Community
Acquired Pneumonia (CAP). CAP is a disease in which individuals who have not
recently been hospitalized develop an infection of the lungs. It occurs because the
areas of the lung which absorbs oxygen (alveoli) from the atmosphere become filled
with fluid and cannot work effectively. (Makati Medical Center, 2012) There are
many causes of pneumonia, including bacteria, viruses, mycoplasmas, fungal agents,

7. Why We Must Go Wrong
As the saying goes anything that can go wrong, will go wrong , yet being fully
aware of this, humans don t avoid doing things altogether, instead we intentionally
thrive toward finding that which can go wrong out of curiosity for knowledge and
fear that we might miss out on something if we don t. There is a lesson to be found
in every disappointment and negative outcome therefore, we gain experience, we
discover, and learn to live with things going wrong because that means we are one
step closer to it going right. We learn to live with these things by jotting down our
mistakes and others prior mistakes to help us prepare accordingly to future
situations. This is especially true in aviation. Without things going wrong, flying
would not hold the safest mode of transportation nor would it be as advanced, as
there would be nothing to aid us in how to prepare for the next flight otherwise. We
ve spent the last years in aviation focusing on increasing safety by trying to perfect
aircraft to only learn, as Wilbur Wright stated, ...the safety of the operator is more
important than any other point. Greater prudence is needed rather than greater skill.
This meaning that it isn t the technology or the aircrews individual capabilities; it is
the lack of caution and preparation instilled into the aircrew. Information gathered
from flight data recorders, FDRs, and cockpit voice recorders, CVRs, revealed new
insights on aircraft accidents. The result of several accidents was
8. Socrates Flaws
Socrates, in a simple but bold statement, proclaims wisdom as being the cardinal
virtue. He believed that if one does not examine oneself, their life has no true
meaning. Socrates defended the idea and virtue of self examination, for he believed it
is through change and growth that people attain self betterment. Not only this, but
this method of critical reflection also realigns values with what is actually important
in life, such as wisdom and spirituality. Socratesbelieved that examination and
scrutiny of one s beliefs were necessary in order to improve oneself. Without
review, people would never be able to see their faults. Socrates lists this reason in
Apology as why he cross examines people: For I do nothing but go about persuading

A person with unexamined values generally holds the insignificant to be what is
important and what is truly significant to be inconsequential. In the Apology, Socrates
addresses the men of Athens on this subject: Are you not ashamed of heaping up the
greatest amount of money and honour and reputation, and caring so little about
wisdom and truth and the greatest improvement of the soul (Plato)? Through this
statement, Socrates argument perfectly encapsulates the state that an unexamined
society exists in one that values greatness over goodness. Though over two
thousand years have passed since Socrates stated this before the Athenian court, it
remains an accurate portrait of society; the majority of people amass material
things, strive to become famous, and seemingly work only to gain wealth, all while
hardly caring about knowledge, morals, or personal integrity. These skewing of
values are the result of an unexamined life. People who never inspect what they hold
valuable are swept up into society s race to riches and fame, instead of focusing on
enriching themselves and others with wisdom and truth. People often ruin their lives
as well as others in pursuit of their vices. Socrates knew that by examining oneself
and what values are genuinely important, one not only safeguards himself against
such downfalls, but they can also be led to the most valuable things of
9. The Importance Of Corporal Workforcement
Motivational tools have been used since schools have been around. They have
changed drastically through the years and studies have helped schools adapt to their
age group. We talked to Pleasant Hill Middle School teachers to get their opinion on
the motivational tools currently being used at their school, and to determine which
they feel is the most effective. Disciplinary tools have changed a lot since one
hundred, or even fifty years ago. Corporal punishment was much more prominent and
is still legal in nineteen states. Although corporal punishment may be more effective
in getting students to stop bad behavior as compared to something like a detention, it
has a host of negative impacts on students. According to hrw.org (human rights
watch) corporal punishment can have harsh physical impacts, like deep bruising and
bleeding, but mental impacts as well. Hrw.org also says that in relation to corporal
punishment, it has been shown that students, have reported subsequent problems
with depression, fear and anger , as well as diminishing student teacher trust and a
safe learning environment. We know the information from the past, but what does
modern science have to say? Studies have shown that among adolescents, positive
reinforcement is cognitively registered more efficiently and kept in the mind longer
than punishment. According to medicaldaily.com, adolescents are likely to be more
receptive to positive reinforcement of good behavior than to being punished for

When discussing the major explorers and travellers normally think about people,
such as, Ibn Batuta, Christopher Columbus and other great people. But, I have a
great tale to tell about a man by the name Marco Polo. Now most of you would
think of the pool game when you shout Marco! the others call Polo! Well it actually
relates to the man himself, Marco actually got separated from his family and
responded with Polo as they called for him with Marco! Marco s early life began
without him know much about his dad, who was also a traveller, and his journeys
revolved mostly on his journeys to Dadu and his life there, such as, his time
serving the Khan or he Journeys around China and his return home. Upon Marco s
return from his journeys he released a book about his journeys, but many critics
claimed this was a fools tale, a false journey that he developed as he rotted away
within the Genoan Prison. But, on the contrary it is to my belief that his story was
proven to be true because, no European had truly known what was east of the
Middle east, so they believe that his tale was bogus , so to speak, Marco and his
family had vanished from Venice for many years, so if they didn t go easy where
did they go, lastly Why would the Polo s return to Rome in search of what the
Khan had Requested if he had never met him. Beginning on Marco s Early life, He
was born in 1254 to a wealthy Venice family, at the time of his birth his father had

12. William Edward Burghardt Du Bois
William Edward Burghardt Du Bois, otherwise known as W.E.B Du Bois,
accordingly introduced the idea of double consciousness which he described to be a
person whose identity can be merged into a unity that they and the nation could be
proud, as stated in The Norton Anthology of African American Literature by Henry
Louis Gates and Valerie Smith (Gates and Smith, page 682). Throughout history, the
stories behind the lives of African Americans has been recognized as a tough,
ongoing battle. The fine line between white and black, has been the core reason of
prejudice beliefs. Beliefs such as African American s being inhuman, aggressive,
unworthy of equality and liberty, etc., have lead to misconceptions of them as
individuals. Being that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wheatley has then been one of the most discussed author s over time she has been
one of the most controversial and enigmatic figures on the history of African
American literature (Gates and Smith, page 137). She was born in Senegambia in
West Africa and was enslaved in America. Because she was of African descent, she
had grew up in a prejudice social order and was considered illiterate like the rest of
the slaves. However, Wheatley decided at a young age, that these social identities
wouldn t be the only characteristics defining her persona, so in addition to being a
Negro, a woman, and a slave; being a poet was ultimately her truest identity.
Her poems surfaced the community and shocked those around her since poetry
was considered the highest expression of an indisputable proof of genius. How can
an African American be a genius? Her audience, the white community, was not
easily convinced that Wheatley s work was completely hers, hence, she was after
all an African American. Her audience needed explanations and proof as to why
and how she chose to be a writer to begin with and also the certification that her
work was legit. The Poems on Various Subjects offers an authentic proof of the
credibility of Phillis Wheatley for having written her work. As an audience, we can
infer that this proof of documentation was provided to demonstrate the legitimacy of
her work and it was a challenge
13. Stereotypes In The Worn Path
The Worn Path seemed to be, on the surface, a useless tale of an old, confused
woman on a journey. However, once the story is more thoroughly analyzed, many
alternative meanings are uncovered. The story is all about sacrifice. The woman is
so old and her body is shutting down, however she walks all that way just to get the
medicine for her grandson. She will not give up on her grandson and is determined
to keep going for him and to keep him as healthy as possible. What I thought to be
interesting is that she never asked anybody in town to bring the medicine to her or
to come check on her every day to (not to be morbid) make sure the grandmother is
still alive! The race of the nurses is never specified, but perhaps they are white, and
if they are white it makes perfect sense why she wouldn t want to ask for help. It
seems reasonable not to want help from a race that just several decades ago treated
your family like animals, and still now treat you like a lesser person. She can do it
own her own and she will show them that.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She feels defeated and lonely because her son and other people of her race are
consider lesser than the white people. She is a caretaker which was one of the two
stereotypes of black women around that time. Even though people favored this
stereotype of black women, they still were treating her as a lesser being, because
they always saw her as their servant. A metaphorical example of racism can be seen
on page 223 when a little boy brought her a plate with slice of marble cake on it..
when she went to take it there was just her own hand in the air. This represents the
fact that being treated equally is almost there for her but it isn t there in reality. The
equality is represented by cake because cake is delicious and
14. Hydrogen Powered Vs Electric Powered Vehicles
Hydrogen Powered Versus Electric Powered Vehicles The human race is in the
midst of an energy crisis. The gasoline used around the world is currently a non
renewable resource. As the title suggests, the gasoline will eventually be totally
consumed in part by the gas guzzling vehicles common today. For this reason,
scientists have spent decades researching and developing alternative sources of
fuel in order to power daily life on Earth for many years to come. There is a wide
array of renewable fuel sources in use presently. These alternatives vary in efficiency,
affordability, and many other aspects. Hydrogen powered and electric powered
vehicles are two comparable alternatives that have increased in popularity and
functionality in recent years and will continue to do so in the near future (10
Reasons, 2015).
History
Hydrogen powered vehicles initially became a reality with the invention of the first
internal combustion engine in 1806. The engine was powered by a mixture of
oxygen and hydrogen gases. This led to the first hydrogen powered car in 1908.
Hydrogen powered vehicles were further advanced in 1935 with Henry Garrett s
electrolytic carburetor which allowed the cars to run on tap water. In the 1970 s,
Archie Blue created and patented a new carburetor that produced enough H2
(hydrogen) gas to power a car motor (History of Hydrogen, n.d.). Today, most
commercial hydrogen vehicles use fuel cells to power their engines. Electric powered
vehicles had a slightly later

Baz Luhrmann essay topic 1by Hayley Bue
Baz Luhrmann s use of cinematic language becomes more advanced through each
film as technology develops and the audience becomes more modern, demanding
better produced films. His story telling techniques become more and more complex
to enable the audience to feel as if they are participating in the film. His first two
films (Strictly Ballroom and Romeo and Juliet) are definitely not naturalistic as
everything about the films is overdone. I feel however that The Great Gatsby is more
natural in terms of theatrical elements such as costumes, characters and providing a
film instead of a play. Overall Baz Luhrmann has evolved as a director from Strictly
Ballroom to Romeo + Juliet to The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be because it is not part of the red curtain trilogy. There is the over
exaggeration of parties, cars and alcohol but in this day and age, it is normal for us
to experience that. Gatsby may be unnatural in his love for Daisy and his made up
world but there are people like that in real life. The camera movements and shots are
smoother and blend into the film rather than stand out. For instance the there is a
low angle that zooms into Gatsby standing proud behind the window, not just a low
angle shot that suddenly cuts to another shot like in Strictly ballroom. The drama in
the movie was also dulled down, the gunshot to Gatsby s back wasn t overly
exaggerated and Gatsby s fight with Tom was so violent.
In conclusion, Baz Luhrmann advances most of his cinematic language through each
movie. He provides more complex story telling techniques to incorporate the
audience. His first two films are highly theatrical while he toned down his theatrics in
The Great Gatsby making it a more natural theme. Baz Luhrmann has evolved in his
directing from Strictly Ballroom to Romeo and Juliet to The Great Gatsby.

20. The Pros And Cons Of Genetic Editing And Human Cloning
The humanity of the human future is in our hands. Humans as a species have
innovated the world. Leading to modern medicine, which continues daily becoming
ever more powerful against disease and death, due to the bewildering achievements
in the fields of biomedical science and technology. The groundbreaking achievements
in these field have made things possible, which people thousands of years ago, could
only dream of. The present and future advances in genetic and reproductive
technologies, in neuroscience and psychopharmacology, and in the development of
artificial organs and computer chip implants for human brains, we now recognize
new uses for biomedical power that goes beyond the traditional medical goals of
healing disease and relieving suffering. Medicine has grown a new branch for genetic
editing and human cloning, which should be banned and tightly regulated due to the
threat it poses to humanity.

an egg with a new somatic nucleus must re program itself in a matter of minutes or
hours (whereas the nucleus of an unaltered egg has been prepared over months and
years). There is thus a greatly increased likelihood of error in translating the genetic
instructions, leading to developmental defects some of which will show themselves
only much later. (Kass). As stated by Kass the chance for survival is not the ideal
for human testing. Additionally, for a child to be created it takes nine months of
human programming within the cells as opposed to gene editing and human cloning
where an egg must reprogram itself in a few weeks. The results of these
technologies will not be fully seen until the child grows. The rapid reprogramming of
the cell could lead to great errors that could lead to unhealthy, abnormal, and
malformed

Sweet Pea Mack
There is a common belief that our animals find us. Looking for our forever dog
does not always come easily or quickly. That match may be increasingly difficult if
you are looking for the ideal dog to become part of a community. One of the most
difficult challenges of aging of the loss of a pet. While it is not uncommon for
retirement communities to allow small cats and dogs, the resident needs to be able
to independently care for their pet either by themselves, family, or paid caregivers.
As a geriatric social worker, I am a firm believer in the power of the human animal
bond, and totally support seniors with maintaining a relationship with animals in
whatever capacity they are able. Years ago I was working in a retirement community

22. Age Of Earth
The age of the Earth can be accurately determined. Through various methods of
relative dating, and absolute radiometric dating, scientists can very precisely
determine the age of the Earth. The key to the age of our planet lies not in one
evidence, but in the cross examination of multiple evidences. In this paper, we will
explore those evidences and find that the secret of Earths age lives in the relationship
between them. By putting the pictures of fossils in chronological order in the
activity Using Fossils to Tell Deep Time , we discovered that fossils can be a
valuable tool in relative dating. Due to the principle of horizontal originality, we
know that layers of sediment are deposited horizontally; because of this, we can
extrapolate that fossils of the same specieswill... Show more content on

The hotpots create islands; and when the tectonic plates move, the island moves
with it. This creates an opening above the hotspot, which allows the hotspot to
create more islands. The older the islands are, the smaller they get because they
have more time to be eroded. Also, the older the islands will be further away from
the hotspot because they have been on the tectonic plates longer and therefore have
had more time to move. This phenomena shows relative age because we can see the
age of the Earth through the size of the islands and the distance they are from the
hotspot. In the third activity, we found that mid ocean ridges are the birthing place
of tectonic plates. The isochron map showed us that the closer to the ridges, the
younger the oceanic floor is. The closer to a continent, the older the rock is. The
reason for this is because the mid ocean ridges create crust, and where the oceanic
crust meets the continental crust, the crust is destroyed (subduction zone). This
shows relative age because the oceanic crust s age can be seen relative to the mid
ocean ridges and the subduction

After watching the videos on lobotomy and the treatment of those with mental

I thought the videos were very fascinating but also very hard to watch and very
disheartening. It s amazing to see how the treatment of those suffering from mental
illnesses has improved in recent years, but it s also unbelievable that some
treatments were ever used. I am not a doctor and do not have any medical training,
but it s hard to believe that making people have seizures and go into a coma was a
beneficial way to treat mental illnesses. It s also hard to wrap my mind around the
fact that someone would ever intentionally put something into someone s brain to

1.Phenobarbital activates inhibitory GABA receptors and inhibits excitatory
glytamate receptors. This class of drug is considered a CNS depressant and at high
doses can cause respiratory depression by suppressing the hypoxic drive to breathe.
The oral LD50 for phenobarbital is 150 mg/kg in the dog. Clinical signs of toxicity
include ataxia, recumbency, bradycardia or tachycardia, depression, coma, and even
death. Differential diagnoses for CNS and respiratory depression include
benzodiazepines, antiparasiticides (e.g., ivermectin), encephalopathies, ethanol,
ethylene glycol, opioids, and hypoglycemia.7 For a recent ingestion it would be
recommended to induce emesis if the patient is able to do so safely without
aspiration. In cases where inducing emesis is not possible, gastric lavage should be
performed followed by multi dose administration of activated charcoal and a cathartic.
2.Although the administration of IVLE seemed to reduce recovery and
hospitalization time in this case, other factors during treatment could have also
affected clinical outcome of this patient. Multi dose activated charcoal administration
has been shown to greatly reduce the plasma half life of phenobarbital, acting as a
sink enhancing the diffusion of phenobarbital into the gastrointestinal tract from the
circulation.1 6... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is worth mentioning the potential for interference when analyzing phenobarbital
levels due to the severe lipemia that is induced by IVLE. The authors lab accounted
for this using some interference data that is provided by their manufacturer. The
instrument used (Siemens DimensionВ® Xpand Plusв„ў Clinical Chemistry System)
automatically checks the HIL (Hemolysis, Icterus, Lipemia) index of all the
phenobarbital samples that are run. This involves checking the absorbance of an
aliquot of the sample at several wavelengths (the L index uses 700nm). Based on
that reading, each of those three potential interferents is assigned a value on a scale
of 1 to 6 (Table

A forced resignation is when an employee is required to depart from their position
due to some issue caused by their continued employment. A forced resignation may
be due to the employer s wishes to dismiss the employee, but the employer may be
offering a softened firing. In a high profile position the employee may want to

biggest difference between voluntary and forced resignation is who gives the
resignation of employment. Both voluntary and forced resignation signify that the
employment will end, but when someone is forced to resign it means that the
employer has decided to sever the employment. The employer can sever
employment for any reason, so long as it is not based on issues of race, religion or
the sex of the employee. The employee can be cut for various reasons such as a new

27. Similarities Between Doodle And The Scarlet Ibis
Doodle, a young disabled boy, is a burden to his Brother . Brother, is very ashamed
and embarrassed of Doodle. The story The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst shows how
Doodle is like the Scarlet Ibis. Doodle and the Scarlet Ibis have many of the same
conflicts and repeating actions in the story. In The Scarlet Ibis, Hurst develops the
symbolism, which is shown through birds, death, and the colorredshows how fragile
Doodle really is during his lifetime. One example of Hurst showing symbolism in the
story is through birds. Doodle and the scarlet ibisare both graceless and very weak.
The scarlet ibis tries to fly, but fails to do so. At that moment the bird began to
flutter, but the wings were uncoordinated, and amid much flapping and a spray of
feathers, it tumbled down, bumping through the limbs of the bleeding tree and
landing at our feet with a thud (Hurst 321). Doodle is comparable to the scarlet
ibis. He is very clumsy, and looked down upon by his family. They believed that he
was not going to live. He is shown through the scarlet ibis because the bird is also
very weak, like Doodle. They both have come over many obstacles to be alive. But
still, you never know if something so little to you, could break something so
fragile like a Scarlet Ibis. In the story after Doodle dies. It talks about how empty
the house was. ...the oriole nest in the elm was untenanted and rocked back and
forth like an empty cradle (Hurst 315). Now that the birds are gone and the tree is
not occupied, it is like the empty cradle in the house now that Doodle is gone. He
is shown through the birds. Doodle is just like the birds leaving their home. And
now that Doodle is gone, it is a very empty sensation lingering in the home he once
lived in. Doodle is symbolically a bird in the story the Scarlet Ibis because he is very
weak and fragile, just like the bird.
Hurst develops the idea of death, and it is symbolic towards Doodle and his family.
The idea of death has come over Doodle s family. Doodle is the smell drifting
across the cotton field into the room. The last graveyard flowers were blooming, and
their smell drifted across the cotton field and through every room of our house,
speaking softly the names of our dead
28. Case Study Of Othello
The purpose of this case study is to examine whether Othello should be diagnosed
with Paranoid Personality Disorder, or not. PPD consists of several traits, but to be
diagnosed with this specific disorder, one would need to qualify for four of the traits.
The four traits that best describe Othello consist of
Suspects, without sufficient basis, that others are exploiting, harming, or deceiving
him or her...Is preoccupied with unjustified doubts about loyalty or trustworthiness of
friends or associates...Persistently bears grudges (i.e., is unforgiving of insults,
injuries, or slights)...Has recurrent suspicions, without justification, regarding fidelity
of spouse or sexual partner (DSM 5 CHECK CITATION).
I recommend Othello for this personality disorder as he portrays each of those four
traits, which would qualify him for the Paranoid Personality Disorder.
People with the paranoid personality disorder generally suspect that other people,
including friends and loved ones, are conspiring against him or her, often without
acceptable evidence or proof. He or she also suspects fidelity among spouses, again
with minimal evidence to support such suspicions. DSM 5 states it as Suspects,
without sufficient basis, that others are exploiting, harming or deceiving him or her,
DSM 5 also says one would have suspicions regarding fidelity of a spouse or sexual
partner. One that demonstrates a pattern of distrust or an accusational tone, he or she
would be demonstrating these two traits

To navigate individuals needs the cognitive skill to process spatial information and

In order to contrast this demonstrating the more dangerous, mystical form of the

mysterious using exaggerated make up in dark colours such as browns, greens,

that although the woods may appear to be innocent and pure actually, underneath
they contains much danger and trepidation. Titania, passionate and stunning, I
believe should wear a very beautiful long, flowing dress reaching the floor made
out of silk, emphasizing her purity. The top half of the dress should incorporate
some figured polyester satin which would have printed butterflies on representing
her relation to delicate, natural creatures. Evidently, Titania also has a more sensual
side of her nature as the intimacy which she treats Bottom with highlights the
difference between his mortal grossness and her delicate beauty. Demonstrating
this, her dress should be off the shoulders and I would choose her to wear a white,
furry shawl to wrap around her back and shoulders to convey her proud, elegant and
well dressed character. Oberon, King of the fairies, represents power in his world in
much the same way that Theseus does in the human world. Oberon however uses his

I was somewhat a casual listener and mostly a referential listener. I was somewhat
a casual listener because I didn t know the name of the artist or piece, however, I
paid attention to the music. I considered myself a referential listener because,
while I was hearing the presto tempo and crescendo dynamic, I pictured Mickey
Mouse running away from an evil monster. When the tempo suddenly changed from
presto to adagio and the dynamic changed from crescendo to piano, I imagined a
turn of events. The monster returning to its lair and the darkness fading. Flowers
growing around Mickey Mouse. The sun appearing and smiling in the sky. I

33. Descriptive Essay On Toy Car
As I currently stare into this inanimate object I recognize one single thing. This
object this Corvette has one flaw to me. The hood of the car in the front it does not
line up completely straight, it s kind of curved around. I say that because in over
the decade that I have received this personal possession, I have never noticed that
specific physical feature on this vehicle. I always tend to look for flaws when I see
something and then I look for the positives. And that is what people usually look for
when they see a car or a collectable item. The sheer resemblance of the model carto
the actual one is uncanny as it should be, from the smallest of detail. The bumps and
texture on the steering wheel, the flags on the logo in the front of the car, and the
placement of the wheels and how they creativity designed and aligned they are just
help me attest to that. Now with that being said this toy Corvette has been in family
for over forty years. So minding the physical features, there is a lot of sentimental
value of this vehicle that outweighs my opinion on the actual price of this toy car, but
to a certain extent.
My grandfather in the mid nineteen seventies came in to collection of around sixty
toy cars over the course of a few years. He was an avid collector during his youth and
into his middle age. But when he got older he gave me possession of at least thirty
of the toy cars as a sentimental gift. I always valued when he gave us his personal

34. The Similarities Between Dionysus And Semele s
In Euripides Bacchae, Agave is subject to Dionysus as Semele is subject to Hera.
Dionysus is responsible for Agave s despair and exile, while Hera is considerably
responsible for Semele s execution and in turn Dionysus s lack of worshipers. Hera
is angry with Semele for sleeping with Zeus, and due to the affair Hera encourages
Semele s death. Dionysustakes his own anger and descends Agave into madness
which leads her to kill her son; his death foreruns to her anguish. Euripides suggests
the ownership that gods have over human life in their vengeance by concluding the
lives of both Semele and Agave with divine intervention. In this essay, I will contrast
the treatment of Semele and the treatment of the Maenads, drawing a similarity

In Hera s case a sexual relationship is in attendance between Semele and Zeus.
Agave and the rest of Semele s family also think of Semele as a sort of seductress.
After Semele s obliteration Dionysus as evidence of Zeus s mortal involvement
had to be hidden from Hera. This event is distinct in antistrophe one when the
chorus says For a womb, Zeus took him straight into the cavern of his thigh and
sewed him up secretly with golden fasteners to hide him from Hera. (Euripides. 94
98). This protection instilled by Zeus is related to the notion that the end result for
Semele and Dionysus was subject to a sexual matter. Another key erotic
relationship can be observed in the dominantly female following of Dionysus or
the Bacchic women he employs to his worship. Of these women, Agave is
noticeably the most important member. Dionysus did not choose her as one of his
maddened women by coincidence, and the madness he inflicts could be seen as
erotic in itself. The irony of Dionysus exploiting Agave in this way stems from
Pentheus s assumption that his mother along with the other Bacchic women are
raving in sex and drunkenness. He assumes this scenario as Agave assumed
Semele was merely seduced by any man rather than Zeus. Dionysus has made use
of the intoxication placed upon Agave by also placing it on Pentheus. The first
sign of his delusion is when he points out his own infatuation with the Bacchae.
After Dionysus asks him if he would like to see the women Pentheus says Of
course. I d give a pot of money for that. (Euripides. 812). This declaration of truth
makes sense to Dionysus s anger toward Agave when Pentheus comes to see the
women are not raving in sex and drunkenness, nor was Semele. The underlying
tones of sex in mortal and divine incidents of the Bacchae serve example of Hera and
Dionysus s desire for Semele and Agave to

there is no proof that there is a possibility that other ideas are out there. The example
that Im thinking of is the black swan. In history so many people have tried to predict
so many historical events that have happened. They have someway predicted the

FEMA was not prepared or not organized for what was to come from Katrina.
FEMA couldn t provide shelter and food for those who needed it. Thousands of
people of New Orleans and parts of Mississippi were not helped. This made me
realize if an organization like FEMA wants to be successful in the future they need to
have System thinking as one of their key focus. This will help them when an another
natural disaster like Katrina comes. Senge states that System thinking is a discipline
for seeing the structures that underlie complex situations, and for discerning high

(Senge 69). If a complex organization uses system thinking in every decision that has

uncertain failures that come with a complex organization. The organization has to
make sure that they are prepared and ready for any problem that is thrown at them.
System thinking can help an organization be successful at the end of the day.
The one thing that be very important is strategies which helps cut down the
unforeseen failures within complex organizations. The complex organizations will
face failures without planning properly or without having great guidance from a

way Thad Allen approach the rescue missions of Hurricane Katrina. An organization

Storytelling and its relevance
Storytelling is, as a concept, built upon the fundamental question of why. From the
dawn of civilization to the marketing activities of a silicon valley technology
company, the success of every endeavor in between can be traced to the resolution of
this fundamental question. Storytelling is one of the few human traits that are truly
universal across culture and through all of known history, writes Jeremy Hsu for
Scientific American . Anthropologists find evidence of folktales everywhere in
ancient cultures, written in Sanskrit, Latin, Greek, Chinese, Egyptian and Sumerian.
People in societies of all types weave narratives, from oral storytellers in hunter
gatherer tribes to the millions of writers churning out books, television shows and
movies.
In his book The Triumph of Narrative, Robert Fulford writes about the historical
significance of narratives and their impact on culture through time and generations.
When ancient man s crop failed, for example, he wanted to know why. To the non
scientific mind, the most compelling explanations arose in the form of religion;
crops failed because the gods were unhappy and required tribute. The power of these
stories, as mentioned, lies in the fact that on some level in the consciousness of the
audience they make sense they resolve the question of why and provide explanation
for the happenings around the brain. The story from Rapunzel to War and Peace is
one of the basic tools invented by the

Compassion emotion one feels in response to suffering of others that motivates a
desire to help, based on cerebral notions such as fairness, justice and interdependence.
The Reader by Bernhard Schlink tests the boundaries of compassion by tackling the
question of German guilt. The story follows Michal Berg and his life long struggle
between condemning and understanding a Nazi guard he passionately fell in love
with as a young boy. Through Michael and Hanna s lives, Schlink unravels the other
side of the Holocaust experience of the perpetrators and their loved ones. As we
devaur shades deeper into their characters, we come to see them both as victims of
their circumstance, two people caught on opposite sides of regime clash, where
misunderstanding runs as deep as their guilt and shame. Through abundance of
symbolism and brisk writing style, Schlink takes us all the way back to beginnings,
questioning the meaning of individual agency, impact of law on morality, and
transitional accountability. Through love and loss, conscious and unconscious pain,
compassion and condemnation, The Reader humanizes the perpetrators of the
Holocaust and contests us to understand. Understanding the crimes of the past, rather
than condemning them, we achieve liberation from chains of the dead and restore

Modern interest in the Red Scare and the long standing efforts to balance liberty and

Palmer Raids. The infamous nature of American anti communist efforts may have
died out but the language and ideology persists in many ways, particularly in the
post 9/11 and Patriot Act era. Historians have long evaluated the Red Scare and the
influence of the Palmer Raids on America s understanding of ideological regulation.
While some historians look at the influence of certain personalities like J. Edgar
Hoover and A. Mitchell Palmer, others chose to write about the more abstract nature
of civil rights and the controlling influence of the government. They also draw direct

magnitude; even a possible contribution to climate change (Withgott Lapostata,
2014, p. 229; Hogan, 2010). When faced with 500,000 acres of public land that are
enduring these issues, many steps need to be taken in order to determine the future
of the land and if grazing will be allowed to continue. One of the main ways of
helping determine the future use of the land is in the soil quality. By observing the
soil color, pH, texture, and structure, the proper means of restoration and conservation
can be better determined.
There are many aspects soil that can be observed and measured in order to
determine the quality of the lands condition. One property of soil that can be looked
at is the color. 2Soil color can determine its composition and fertility. Soil that is pale
in color usually suggest low organic contents and even leaching, while soil that is
dark browns and black in color often suggest higher organic content and richness
(Withgott Lapostata, 2014, p. 220). Soil pH is another property that helps
41. Essay about Codependency in Edith Wharton s Ethan Frome
Codependency in Edith Wharton s Ethan Frome
Dependent personality disorder. (Morris) To people who suffer from this disorder,
making a decision is virtually impossible. It is only by getting assistance from others
that they can make even the simplest of choices. When some of these people come
together, they rely on each other to help them with decision making. Unfortunately,
the codependency created by this situation frequently makes it impossible for these
people to separate. In fact, they often become so interdependent that subconsciously
they increasingly act in ways that will maintain the status quo. In Edith Wharton s
novel Ethan Frome, the three major characters are so dependent on each other that no

Ethan had not wanted to go to bed with Zeena but once Zeena began to pressure
him, he backed down and followed her to bed like a hurt child. Thus, Ethan yields
to his problem and entraps himself to a life of misery. He illustrates his own
dependence by his consistent submission to Zeena and by his inability to take control
of events that are occurring in his life.
Zeena Frome, the second of the three important characters, is often unable to take
direct action without receiving confirmation from other characters. In one
conversation with Ethan, Zeena says He wanted I should speak to you about a girl
(19) and then later, Wharton adds to this feeling of dependence in the description of
Zeena after she returns from the doctor, She wanted sympathy not consolation (55).
Zeena is trying to get support from Ethan to get a replacement for Mattie. However,
when she is unable to get his support, Mattie remains in the house until Zeena
finally gets her needed backing from a doctor: He wants I should have a hired girl
(55). Every time Zeena is confronted with an important decision, she needs to have
someone agree with her. Without support, she will not take direct action and will
only delay the problem. Wharton emphasizes Zeena s dependence, by having her ask
Ethan, who loves Mattie, to support an effort to eliminate
42. The Use Of Force By William Carlos Williams
In the short story the doctor was trying to pry mathilda s mouth open. May a doctor
have more power on whether to lie to his patient s or to tell them the truth. A
physician should respect the patient s wishes on whether to live or whether to die.
The Use of Force by William Carlos Williams brings up the question if it is ever
justifiable for a medical professional to use force. First of all in a topic in the
MSNBC Equality/Health talks about a law forcing doctors to lie to patients about
abortion. It states while the american public focused on the controversial religious
freedom bill passed in Indiana last month, two other states also made far reaching
and dangerous political moves: Arizona Gov. Doug Dacey and Arkansas Gov. Asa

The doctor and his patient portray a troubled encounter that is subject to discussion.
This short story reflects real or plausible issues comparable in real life. One
example of such an event in Brooklyn when a construction worker filed a lawsuit
against a hospital for subjecting him to a rectal exam against his wishes. According
to his lawyer, the man begged, please don t do that as he was held down, and he
punched one of the doctors before being sedated and examined without consent. As a
result the man allegedly developed post traumatic stress disorder as a result of the
experience.(Tsai,1) Given to the poor man s circumstance and how the medical
professionals treated him, you can now see how unfit doctors can be to their own
patients.
How this man plead no but the doctors did not stop. Sure there are some cases that
doctors can act without a patient s permission in some situations. If It s an
emergency, and neither a patient nor his family members are capable of making a
decision on the spot, then and only then doctors might go ahead and presume
consent.(Tsai, 2) But this could be because the patient is unconscious or because he
or she lacks the mental capacity to make an informed decision. But to this
construction man that was not the case. He told the doctors no but they didn t listen
and for that reason that he was conscious doctors can not be completely trusted.

43. Cirque Du Soleil Case Study
In an industry that was slowly declining, where audiences were decreasing, profits
and revenues were at an all time low and various forms of entertainment were
booming, Cirque du Soleil reinvented the circus by exemplifying less traditional
circus ideas. At this time competitors such as Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey
Circus, were continuing to use a more customary strategy by maintaining a red
ocean strategic approach. Red ocean strategy is labelled by companies trying to
outperform their rivals to grab a greater share of existing demand. Essentially as the
market place becomes oversaturated, profits and growth ability reduce and
competition rises. Ringling Brothers and Barnum Bailey Circus once being the global
champions of the industry, attempted to outcompete its competitors by tweaking
circus acts and hiring famous clowns and lions to create more appeal. Cirque du Soleil
had a different strategic approach, one that made it the top competitor in the world
wide entertainment industry today. By observing the issues with the circus industry s
outdated business model, Cirque du Soleil saw an opportunity to challenge the
conventions of the circus industry. By using a blue ocean strategic approach, Cirque
du Soleil was able to refine the problem within the industry instead of using the more
conventional method and tweaking outdated acts. Cirque du Soleil did not pay
attention to the other competitors in the market place, instead they appealed to an
unpenetrated market
44. Power Glen Research Paper
Among all the communities that are located in West St Catharines, there is some
interesting history about Power Glen. Power glen was very different compare to
the present day. There were no reservoirs, just the broad shallow valley of
Beaverdams Creek (which still flows over DeCew Falls into Twelve Mile Creek),
with two major tributaries extending to the east and southeast.(Hughes, 2008) By
the time, electricity has not been introduced. During the Pre European Period, the
Niagara Peninsula has a history of aboriginal occupation. At that time of first
European contact in the late 16th and early 17th centuries it was inhabited by the
Neutral Indians, but in about 1650 they were attacked and destroyed by Iroquois
from the Finger Lakes region.(Hughes, 2008) The Iroquois did not occupy the
Peninsula. They remained largely uninhibited until the end of the American
Revolutionary War in 1783. Power Glen has a history of milling. The history
begins with a man called Duncan Murray. He built the first mills in 1786. He then
built the Grist mills and saw mills. The Grist mills and saw mills played a
significant role as sources of flour and lumber. At first, all the mills are owned by
the Crown. Private ownership was not allowed. The restriction was then lifted in
1786. Unfortunately, he died before they were completed; the community came to
be known as the Crown Mills. The property was acquired by a merchant named
Robert Hamilton. He completed the work in 1787. Hamilton was contracted to
supply the military with flour along the Niagara River. He then built a store on
Twelve Mile Creek. Hamilton s store was the very first building known to have been
built in what became the village of St Catharines. As electricity began to be
introduced, the Cataract Power Company of Hamilton constructed a power plant not
far downstream from the mills. They changed the name of the community to Power
Glen afterwards.
45. My Thanksgiving Theme
My Thanksgiving Party This year s Thanksgiving party has a theme of classic rock.
To me, classic rock is a great theme because it contains some of the best artists ever.
It is also personally my favorite type of music. The theme will involve the music
playing in every room at the party, including the outside activities. The theme will
be fun because there will be three celebrities. The three celebrities are going to be
Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, and Eric Clapton. They will be there to demonstrate
their guitar work and they will also be signing autographs and showing off their
guitars. The food will be great. Ruth s Chris will be catering. There will be waiters
there. The waiters will take an order anytime you ask. You can order anything

LA Gear light up tennis shoes distinctively stole the hearts of many children in 90s.
I owned a pink and white pair, which was the envy of all, until hide and seek was in
play and I was easily sought out for obvious reasons. Although the infamous light up
shoes were popular amongst playgrounds in the 90s, the company s success came to
an unprofitable halt. According to LA Times staff writer Stuart Silverstein, LA Gear
was the no.3 tennis shoecompany in the business following competitors Nike and
Reebok (1991, p.1). Silverstein also reported that during 1991 the company suffered
due to the recession, a $6 million profit deficit, and lawsuits from Nike (1991, p.1).
According to The Business Wire, LA Gear re launched its original line Spring

The Structure and Underlining Meanings of Rapunzel by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm
The story of Rapunzel, by the brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, has the same
basic structure as all other fairy tales born from the oral tradition; what is commonly
referred to as the opening, main part and ending, is the foundation of the tale.
It is around this clearly defined three part structure of the plot, that invisible layers of
meaning exist often very different for each reader. Between the clever design of the
plot which allows several stories to surface within a seeming individual tale and
multiple layers underneath the literal action, exists a limitless journey of personal
exploration. A fairy talesuch as Rapunzel has many possible ... Show more content on

The forest, which symbolizing nature and wilderness, signifies an entry into
discovery, growth and often, change. Correspondingly, Rapunzel grows up and at
the age of twelve her sexual maturity is locked away by the witch in a tower. The
main part has a task to be completed too, like in the first part of the story: the prince
has a mission to free his beloved Rapunzel from the restricting tower and make her
his wife. The end of the main part of the tale is indicated by transformations of the
two major characters, Rapunzel and the prince; Rapunzel loses her long, beautiful
hair, which was an important tool in not only her relationship with her lover but also
with her lifelong caretaker, and the prince loses his ability to see.
Like the introduction, the main part of the tale is also composed of three distinct
parts which form a short story on their own. A clear beginning, a central story, and an
ending exists. The opening of the main part is concluded after the prince, although
enchanted by Rapunzel s singing, gives up his plan to pursue her when faced with
a barrier: no entryway to the tower in which Rapunzel lives. When the prince enters
the forest a second time, he is a changed person he now has a motivation to act on
his desires for Rapunzel. The prince is no longer a man who easily gives up; he is
eager to form a plan for entry into the tower, and at the same time, the life of the
sheltered Rapunzel. She too undergoes a

For the course Digital Electronics, taught by Professor S.C. De Sarkar, the
laboratory exercises as well as the theory classes were used to be very challenging
and demanding. We got exposed to an entirely different kind of teaching which
neared perfection. Thus a profound interest is instigated in Digital Electronics. He
also taught us Computer Architecture and this course seemed to answer some of my
doubts, which I had when I was a child, about the functioning of a computer. I
achieved the highest possible grades in both the theory and laboratory components in
these courses.
Through semesters of learning I came across different exciting courses like VLSI
Design, Embedded Systems, and Wireless Communications where I learned varied
aspects such as VHDL Coding, small scale microprocessor architecture and CDMA
techniques. These courses not only provided much insight on the current technologies
but also steered my interest in Electrical Engineering.
I pursued a project Image Inpainting for the course Image and Video Processing
which is generally employed to cut out portions of an image without losing the
homogeneity. Different procedures like PDE based Inpainting, exemplar Inpainting

Personal Narrative Dream of Travelling through a Cell

brother started to tell me his crazy dream. The first place he came upon was the cell
wall. He was trying to find a way out. He said he started to talk to the cell wall. He
asked the cell wall the way out. The cell wall said to him How should I know? I m

My brother started to walk that way. He asked the mitochondria the way out. The

51. I Was A New Friend
Prior to this semester, the concept of diversity hardly crossed my mind, and when
it did I never took it seriously. Freshman year, when my friends and I would sit out
on the yard on sunny days we would joke about how we d make the perfect
photograph for a Xavier brochure because how diverse our group was. And it was
pretty diverse. Every major region was covered. At other times, I was very
interested in gender diversity; I attended multiple young women leadership
programs in high school, but I never felt like I was being affected by being a
female. Recently diversity has started to affect me more; coincidently or not, it
paired up with class fairly well. In the beginning of the year, I was highly involved
in the E/RS events concerning race. Then a mentor of mine struggled with her job;
she is pregnant but her work does not offer maternity leave. Furthermore, I made a
new friend this year that is in a wheelchair. I learned that like most places, Xavier is
not very handicap accessible. As for myself, I learned how to own my privilege. I
associate as a white, abled bodied, heterosexual, middle class, young adult, female.
I have dealt with very little issues. I struggle with my race and ethnicity. I classify
my race as white and my ethnicity as Portuguese. But the US government lumps
Portuguese with Latinos/Hispanics, which always confused me growing up. I
disliked that I was being grouped and labeled. In high school, all of the diverse kids
junior and senior year were
52. Summary Of Inherit The Wind
In the play Inherit the Wind, Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee use a historic
event and twist it into a believable fiction narrative that shows the fault of a small
southern town. As it is presented, the play was written to be seen as a more meta
commentary on the American people, and the trial was supposed to symbolize
American thinking as a whole. The authors make clear that the trial is not only
against the defendant; it is also striking the people of the setting. The fault
displayed in the play s titular town of Hillsboro is that the citizens are quick to lap
up the word of the holy men and their holy book, and they are also inclined to
automatically deny or ignore anything that could possibly challenge what they have
been spoon fed from The Bible. The two characters that... Show more content on

His distaste for the Darwin theories brings into play a whole new trial on how religion
should not dictate how one thinks. Reverend Brown constantly attacks anything even
remotely detached from his holy book, and it is shown that he believes all Darwin
theorists are the evil that plagues human society. During the trial, The Bible is
questioned often, making a statement on how Brown s thinking could be unfair and
close minded. The fight not flight attitude portrayed in BrownВґs character is an
important part in figuring out why the townspeople are so afraid to think about what
they believe in. Brown himself tries too hard to show his love of his Lord, and those
surrounding him are afraid of thinking another way. The malice and ill intent in
BrownВґs character is thoroughly challenged, with others asking if he is going
overboard. All of this is important because Brown is portrayed as a leader. Brown is
supposed to be providing an example for his community, the normal folk, and all he
is doing is spreading distrust in those who have different
53. The Kingdom of God
The Kingdom of God is a hidden, but important theme in the New Testament of the
Bible. It isn t a place, but rather a state of being. Jesus spends most of his life living
as an example of the Kingdom of God. Through Jesus teachings, people begin to
understand what it truly means to live in the Kingdom. This theme is mainly
introduced in the gospel of Mark and progresses further in depth throughout the New
Testament. The meaning of the Kingdom of Godis found in the words of JesusChrist.
He provides an insight to the Kingdom and how to be a part of it. Through a more
in depth look, one can find that many factors influence the presence and meaning of
the Kingdom of God. Some factors include, but are not limited to: lifestyle, the Lord s

God s will must be done to enter the Kingdom of God. Jesus makes it known that
Christians should live for God and through God. People should do all things
through God to successfully enter the Kingdom of God. Christians should have joy
in all actions completed through God. Whether volunteering through the church, or
helping a friend, do it in the right mindset to please God. Authority in the Kingdom
of God is crucial to being a part of it. Authority is having power over someone or
something, the right to give orders, and enforce obedience. (Webster) With regard
to the Kingdom of God, authority fits into place in a couple categories. First, one
must have authority over Satan and evil to be a part of the Kingdom of God. Having
power over Satan is pivotal to God s Kingdom. Without power over Satan, has
someone truly defeated evil? Authority over evil ensures that no evil enters God s
Kingdom. The major ways we give claim to the Enemy in our lives are through sin
and through making agreements with Satan. (Eldredge) Jesus shows an example of
authority over Satan when he is in the desert. Satan tempts Jesus with many things,
but Jesus resists and conquers Satan with each temptation. He backs each temptation
with evidentiary support, beginning with, it is written, from the old testament. (The
Holy Bible, Matt. 4:1 11). Jesus shows that authority over Satan is important to the
Kingdom of God. Second, authority over
