Huntington Disease Research Paper
Most of the carriers of Huntington disease are usually childhood victims (Donaldson, Marsden,
Schneider, Bhatia, 2012). From this point of view, an increase in the length of the CAG section causes
the production of an abnormal form of the Huntington protein (Donaldson, Marsden, Schneider,
Bhatia, 2012). The lengthened defective protein is then cut into smaller and defective fragments that
bind neurons together, which in turn disrupts their required functions of the brain. The abnormal
functioning leads to eventual death of the neurons in some regions within the brain, which in turn
leads to the symptoms of Huntington disease (Marks Neill, 2007).
Inheritance
Huntington disease is featured by an autosomal inheritance that is dominant,

The Panda Bear Or Giant Panda
The panda bear or giant panda is located in the south central area of China. It is recognized for its
appearance. It belongs to the Carnivore group even though it eats 99% bamboo. Pandas found in the
wild will eat other grasses, wild tubers, or meat in the form of birds, rodents, or carrion. Pandas in
captivity receive honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, bananas, or other specially prepared
foods. Pandas live in mountain ranges because deforestation has driven them from lowland areas. The
panda is an endangered species. According to a 2007 report, there are 239 pandas living in captivity in
China, 27 pandas living outside the country, and 1,590 pandas living in the wild. The panda bear is a
great symbol in China. This animal is noticed because it is on the endangered species list.
The red panda, though it shares the name of panda, is not a bear. It is more closely related to a raccoon
or skunk and is an endangered species. This panda is called the red panda, lesser panda, or red cat
bear. This animal is not closely related to the giant panda or panda bear. This is an animal that is
adorable and cuddly looking but it also is so much larger than it appears.
Cultural Symbolism:
The panda bear is not only a fluffy creature it is also symbolic to China. The panda can symbolize
friendship and peace. The colors on the panda help resemble the Yin Yang by showing how the two
colors can mix and with the pandas nature it backs this up. The panda is really peaceful and

Rhetorical Analysis Of Malala Yousafzai Nobel Peace Prize...
Malala Yousafzai Nobel Peace Prize Speech Analysis I am those 66 million girls who are deprived of
education. And today I am not raising my voice, it is the voice of those 66 million girls. Malala
Yousafzai makes this statement in her speech to the Nobel Committee as the first Pakistani and, at the
age of sixteen, the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize Award. Malala was unfortunately
shot in the head by a member of the Taliban, due to the fact that she defied a culture that did not allow
girls to have an education. Despite her brush with death, she not only recovered, but became a
champion for the rights of children and girls around the world to receive an education. Malala
delivered a speech before the Nobel Committee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her use of pathos allows her to connect with the audience on an emotional level and helps drive home
her argument.
Additionally, her use of ethos allows her to present herself to t audience as a reliable figure by saying,
some people call me the girl who was shot by the Taliban... some people call me a nobel Laureate
now. She convinces the audience of her credibility by reminding them of her personal experience and
that she stands as a credible source. Malala says that the award is not only for her, but the Nobel Peace
Prize money [will be dedicated] to the Malala Fund , the official organization led by Malala Yousafzai.
She builds on personal examples from her life to support the issue, which shows that she has first hand
experience with the problem and that she is dedicated to finding a solution.
Together with strong appeals to pathos and ethos, she establishes the significance of this subject,
persuading the audience to listen to her call to action. She says Dear sisters and brothers, dear fellow
children, we must work...not wait. Not just the politicians and the world leaders, we all need to
contribute. Me. You. We. It is our duty (Malala). She reinforces her ideas and provides the strength
and seriousness that the topic deserves, while motivating the audience to unite and face this issue.
Furthermore, she says that

Google Android s Smartphone Superiority over Apple s IOS...
If you are a dedicated iPhone consumer you must realize that you have basically bought the same
phone over and over again. It is time to trash the iPhone and get a new Android. Although Apple s
tyrannical iPhones took the cake by far in the beginnings of the smartphone revolution, Google
Android soon came in to assert its dominance over the now pathetic iPhone, much like an omega wolf
taking down an alpha wolf to become the new leader of the pack. With Android s wide variety of
smartphones, like the well known Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One, consumers have more options
than ever. Also, the Android phones themselves are unequivocally better when it comes to
customizability. On Apple s part, software features are severely lagging; Whereas, ... Show more

The customizability of Android, in comparison to the iPhone, is like comparing a rich man to a
peddler. Android is rich with customizability options like the ability to root, which basically gives you
the privilege to do whatever you want to your phone by the way of software customization(Black Dog
Media Limited 96). If you are not at all knowledgeable of how to operate a smartphone, most Android
smartphones have an available easy mode on it, which makes the phone as easy to use as a Jitterbug.
However, Apple, the peddler in this circumstance, has few customizability features which are limited
to folders, home and lock screen background changes, a favorite s bar at the bottom and changing the
order of the apps, all of which use to set Apple apart; however, now Android devices can do as well.
Android devices have so many available features (refer to list) and more (Kovach, 11 Things Samsung
s Galaxy S4 Can Do That The iPhone 5S Can t ). After hearing this how many of you would rush to
the Apple Store if it included these features? Probably almost all of you, but the iPhone does not
include these features. Instead Apple has only a limited number of features and options, which create a
less user friendly interface than that of its Android competitor.
Apple negatively affects its users

A Brief Note On Burns And Its Effects On Victims
Definition and pathogenesis Burns are regarded as one of the most hazardous occupational and house
hold risks. They cause a catastrophic influence and impact on victims. The impact and effects of burns
ranges from mild to severe, while as the primary influence and effects of burns, occur in terms such as
suffering, disability, financial loss and death of victims. According to the Royal children s Hospital
(2016), minor burns are the most sustained types of burns and in most instances, they occur as a result
of household activities. Occupational and work related burns account for all serious burns witnessed
within a local healthcare district. Cleland (2012) states that people of all ages and occupations are
susceptible to burns. However, women and children are most susceptible to minor burns. Minor burns
are also described as superficial or first degree burns. They damage the superficial lay of the skin
making the burnt area turn red and significantly painful. Blisters are likely to occur in case first aid
services are not adequately or timely offered. They are mainly brought about by contact with hot
fluids, objects, corrosive chemicals, exposure to scotching sun rays, steam and hot furnace surfaces.
The causes of burns and scalds are varied and ranges from hold fluids, chemical burns, electrical
burns, excessive scotch from the sun, and contact with hot surfaces. In most instances, minor burns are
mild and do not require medical treatment (Hudspith Rayatt, 2014).

What Is Locke s Argument For The Existence Of Spinoza
Similarly to the way Spinoza took the terms given by Descartes to an extreme, Berkeley did with
Locke. When Locke argued for the existence of a substratum holding our perceptions of phenomena
together, he defined the substratum as something, I know not what. Berkeley, found that notion to be
preposterous and a blatant contradiction. It is unintelligible to claim to have a coherent idea of
something that is by definition, impossible to have an idea of it. Besides, even if it were remotely
possible to form an idea of substance there would be no reason to believe there could ever be such a
thing in existence. It is not impossible for all of our perceptions to exist without the presence of a
material substance. Berkeley goes on to reject Locke s distinction between secondary and primary
qualities; because he feels that if anyone took the time to really read about it, then they would realize
they are the same thing. In Berkeley s opinion it is a categorical ... Show more content on

Berkeley was not naïve enough to believe things disappeared and popped back into existence
depending on whether or not a human mind was actively perceiving it. He knew we did not possess
that kind of power. Also, that we do not always have complete control of our perceptions of
impressions. He defines real things as things that possesses qualities of coherence, order, steadiness,
etc. It is unwise to believe ideas of real things can be anything but a perception in a mind. Since there
is an undeniable uniformity it is not determined by our will (like our imagination is) our ideas of real
things are imprinted onto our senses by the goodness and wisdom of that governing spirit whose will
constitutes the laws of nature, (pp.453) making it possible for a man to manage

Essay about The Theme of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill
In the story Miss Brill, an old, lonely lady spends her Sunday observing people in a park. Although
ignored by everyone around her, Miss Brill manages to convince herself that she is really an integral
part of the scene and would be missed if she weren t there. Her illusion is shattered by a chance
remark at the end of the story, and she returns home, clearly devastated by her new understanding of
her place in life. What this story is trying to illustrate is that sometimes people can be happy through
living in an illusion. However, this kind of happiness is fragile and can be easily destroyed.
Unfortunately, modern society does not provide a place for everyone. Inevitably, there are those
people, often elderly, who become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She pays attention to the smallest details. Wasn t the conductor [of the band in the park] wearing a
new coat, too? She was sure it was new. He scraped with his foot and flapped his arms like a rooster
about to crow... Now came a little flutey bit very pretty! a little chain of bright drops. She was sure it
would be repeated. It was; she lifted her head and smiled (98). Even if she s only an observer, Miss
Brill is an involved observer. She draws enjoyment from simply being in the park atmosphere.
However, her enjoyment is more than a passing mood. It s actually an indication of a deeper emotion a
kind of happiness. This becomes clear after Miss Brill has paid close attention to several small
exchanges between people at the park. Oh how fascinating it was! How she enjoyed it! How she loved
sitting here, watching it all! (99). That Miss Brill does not actually participate in anything is clear to
the reader, but not to her. Vicarious involvement in other people s lives seems to be fulfilling for her,
even though there is no actual interplay with others. The most telling evidence that Miss Brill is happy
(and that her happiness is based on a false impression) is when she comes to the conclusion that she s
somehow needed at the park. No doubt somebody would have noticed if she hadn t been there; she
was part of the performance after all... Miss Brill nearly laughed out loud (100). This realization
eventually moves Miss Brill to

Informative Essay On Homelessness
On a cold rainy Saturday in December, just two days before Christmas, in 2006 Andy Sandness set out
to do some grocery shopping on his day off from work. Everything was going as planned until an
announcement came over the speaker at Piggly Wiggly saying Attention shoppers please do not panic
and take cover immediately. Naturally panic immediately broke out all over the store as gunshots rang
through the produce aisle. Babies were crying, mothers were covering their children, elderly people
were struggling to move to a safe place, and food was flooding the aisles. Sandness, a local rancher
and volunteer firefighter/emt sprung into action. He alerted authorities and located the shooter. A
million thoughts ran through my mind in the seconds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

his days of being a firefighter were over. A few months after being home Sandness was called to the
fire station where he found many familiar faces that were along with him in Piggly Wiggly that cold
rainy day in December of 2006 honoring him with a plaque and saying there will now be a day in the
community in honor of not only his braveness but his selflessness. When Sandness was called up to be
presented with his plaque and went up to give a speech he was greeted by some unknown faces. With
one look I felt an overwhelming connection with these people I have never met, Sandness said. The
microphone was handed over to the woman, as she began to speak her voice cracked and her face
flooded with tears. Sandness then realized that this woman was the mother of young man, a fallen
soldier home on leave when he was assaulted and killed after trying to stop a robbery, that he was now

The Safety Of The Air Travel
As one of the most popular methods of travel worldwide, air travel is something most can t live
without. But we know that a metal tube soaring through the air at 40,000 feet, in a low oxygen
environment, at over 400 knots can contain a risk or two. When the worst case scenario happens, who
foots this bill? Is it the airline, country, maintenance facility? Or maybe it is a terrorist organization
that was responsible for the accident. Either way, in the aftermath of an aircraft accident, people want
nothing more than to be able to mourn the loss of their loved ones without the politics involved in the
accountability department. Historically, these horrific accidents could have been prevented in most
cases and I m here to tell you that unless the accident was caused by an act of war, the airline is
absolutely responsible to the families of the victims involved.
Under an international agreement known as the Montreal Convention of 1999, an airline generally
cannot escape liability for a passenger death (Ingram) and per the IATA, the airline is responsible for
death and injury as well as loss of baggage and cargo. The Montreal Convention makes it difficult for
an airline to propose any type of argument because it is an international treaty and a standardized way
of pointing fingers at the airline when an accident occurs. Complementing this international treaty is
the Title 14 code of Federal Regulations which governs Airworthiness Certification and Operation of
all commercial

Shadow of the Night
Shadow of the Night
On a freezing, dark blue night of Li, in the Village of Li Marta. This was an old little village, the
houses were nothing but ash and rubble except an old abandoned barn. The barn had creaking floor
boards and a rotten wooden roof.
In this abandoned barn there lived a young and confident farm boy; his clothes were ragged and full of
holes. The young boy was called Rye named after the agricultural god Ren Rye.
As Rye was sitting on the creaking floor boards a thought hit him, he remembered something his
mother told him, be strong like an ox! Suddenly a gang of raiders came down from the north came to
torch the village to ashes. A horn blew. It was the raider chieftain Kai Tai s way of terrifying the
villagers. Outside the Barn two raiders were battering through the barn door, then Rye s mother said
hide, son! Hide in the rafters! from his hiding place Rye saw the doomed doors explode into a shower
of splinters and he saw his mother being dragged away.
Rye remembered those horrendous moments. In frustration he would kick a stone for no purpose or
reason. His father fought till his last breath and defending Rye, valiantly clutching his pitchfork.
Rye had woken up from that dreadful nightmare, he was now somewhere unfamiliar a dark, dark
place, where there was no light. It was the spirit realm of Gahem a quiet but deadly realm to stay in.
Suddenly out of the darkness a shadow appeared the shadow had black clothing and a dark purple

Latina Women In American Films
Latina women have had roles in films since the silence era in the 1920s. However, their representation
and characteristics have constantly changed. Latina actresses originally portrayed characters that
simply fulfilled general and negative stereotypes about their ethnicity and culture. But during the Latin
Wave of the 1990s, Latina/o performers musicians, actors/actresses, dancers, etc. received more
prominent attention in American culture. Due to this newfound popularity, the status of the Latin
American woman evolved in the United States and Latina actress got to play more fulfilling parts. In
contemporary American films where a Latina woman is the protagonist, topics that have been

Even though Latino/a actors and actresses have had increased participation in films over the decades,
majority of the films they were in devalued their culture. Italian actor Rudolph Valentino was one of
the first known Latin Lovers, which was a stereotype that all Latinos were incredibly passionate and
great in bed. Another film stereotype were Latino/a s portraying bad guys/thugs, which was to
insinuate that Latinos were cholos (a lower class Latin American who is in a gang) and could not be
civilized. Such films that portrayed Latinos as such were the 1979 film Boulevard Nights, which is
about a neighborhood gang war, and the 1988 film Stand and Deliver, which is about a high school
calculus teacher who tries to get the Latino students who are prone to dropout to do their homework.
Stereotypes involving Latina women were that they were either very sexual, the silent maid, or had a
spicy attitude. 2 It wasn t until the 1990s that there was genuine progress in representing different
aspects of Latino/a culture and people in films. The 1990s witnessed as a continuation of New
Hollywood shifts that amounted to increasing interest in casting and promoting a handful of African
American and Latina/o actors and potential stars. 3 Latina performers and actresses in particular were

A Study Of Trends On Saving And Consumption By Middle And...
A study of trends in saving and consumption by middle and lower middle class at national level
INTRODUCTION
Right from our childhood days, our parents teach us that save penny and earned penny. The phrase
highlights the significance of individual and household savings. With the passage of time, our elders
constantly tell us that we should spend less than we earn and save some part for uncertain and better
future use. Our elders also educate us to use resources and money according to our income, and our
expenses should be less than our income. From the classical days, saving has been considered as one
of the element of expansion and growth. In Indian economy, the household sector contributes the lion
s share of the total savings. As far as the household and rural household sector is concerned they have
remarkable saving potential which has not been considered seriously by the policy makers and hence,
measures have not been chartered to organize these enormous savings.
In this theory Keynes examined the tender of value function of money along with transaction function.
According to Keynes in general there are tree motives that create the demand for money. They are
transaction motive, precautionary motive and speculative motive.
1. Transaction motive
It refers to the demand for money for the present transaction of the people. Individuals and household
keep cash in order to bridge the gap between receipt of income and the expenditure. This amount will

Analysis Of Pushing Thirty By Jody Paulsen
According to Elle magazine (February 22, 2017), Jody Paulsen describes his artwork as a millennial
approach to becoming an adult , hence the name of his outstanding exhibition, Pushing Thirty . His
unique artwork of text, colour, pattern, imagery and texture, embodies a perfect balance between
optimism versus reality. One can view his incredible work at the SMAC gallery in the heart of Cape
Town s artistic Woodstock area. The artist and fashion designer, Jody Paulsen, perfectly controls how
he expresses his not so typical coming of age story, through the use of bold statements, challenging
stereotypes, vibrant colour and his main use of the unconventional material, felt, provides a clear and
common thread that runs through the exhibition. Furthermore, Jody makes use of a variety of
conceptualised images and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It shows a sense of beauty and freedom with an endless potential of what one can become. However, I
did find the photographic work a bit disheartening as I feel it was a summary of Paulsen s work which
in reality has a much more deeper and personal meaning. It was more of an overview, which
consequently does not show the individual style of the artwork. In conclusion, his works give off a
bold, dramatic statement of socio political and cultural issues that has personal meaning, identity and
freedom, but consequently, may also be viewed to some as an IN YOUR FACE exaggeration. This
however, does not undermine Jody s works and his ability to put himself out there through his art.
Thus the exhibition, Pushing Thirty is all about the issues and experiences in Jody s life that has
shaped who he is today. He is the subject of his artwork. For that reason he can freely express himself
through is magnificent pieces that leaves a long lasting explosion of an

The Pullman strike was one of the largest strikes in American history and formed in the town of
Pullman,Illinois in 1884 . The American Railway Union decided that because of the intolerant
treatment of the workers they would help to conduct a strike , ceasing all the hitching of Pullmans cars
to trains. The Pullman strike had a huge significance in America at that time, it was the first time the
Federal Government passed an injunction to halt a strike, and it also lead to the plummet of the ARU.

The National Rifle Association ( Nra )
Of the many interest groups that have a viable, unwavering presence in both the campaign and
election process and in the hands of its taxpaying voters is the National Rifle Association (NRA). The
nonprofit organization has a staunch and straightforward message: to advocate and protect the second
amendment. As of late, the NRA has received criticism by some candidate who is running for
presidency, and even the President himself, but this has not changed the purpose or image of the
organization through the eyes of the American people. Other candidates can see this, and they are in
full fledge of their support for the NRA, which is not only cohesive but reciprocal, and has been one
of the standing points for these candidates. Because of this, Fortune magazine has recognized NRA as
the most powerful lobbying force in the United States. The National Rifle Association is an effective
interest group because of its strong advocacy for gun rights, its strong support from taxpayers and
politicians, and its notable presence in policy making and legislation. The NRA is a powerful
organization that has a long, illustrious history of advocating gun rights and the second amendment.
The nonprofit organization was founded in November of 1871 by William Conant Church and George

Week 4, Application Assignment
Theory and its Relevance to Research
Theory is based off of an idea or a thought. It is composed of carefully collected data, and several
hypothetical tests or experiments. Creswell, (2009) , theory differs from a hypothesis in that it is a set
of scientific method, a process of asking and answering questions based on experiments. A theory not
only explains proven facts; it also allows researchers to make predictions based on what they observe
if a theory is proven or said to be true ( Laureate Education Inc., 2009).
When conducting research, a researcher may choose to the three different methodologies that include
quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods to analyze the data collected. These three
methodologies all have differing ways of reaching a conclusion in a research study. For example,
Quantitative research uses deductive or confirmatory scientific method; it is used primarily as a source
of description, explanation, and as a way to predict an outcome. Quantitative research was built on the
basis of quantitative data, used almost always as the analysis of variables. The results of these kinds of
theories relies mostly on measurements, are statistically driven and the goal is to generalize the results
of the study.
Researchers studying The Health Belief Model (HBM) and Theory of Planned Action (TRA) might
use quantitative research

St. Ambrose Research Paper
When he was 33, Saint Ambrose was living a rich life. He was a successful lawyer and governor.
However, when the bishop of Milan died, Ambrose went to go calm the people. The people started
chanting, Ambrose for bishop! Ambrose did not want to give up his career for the life threatening
occupation (St. Ambrose par. 5) of being bishop, so he fled. He went to the emperor, but the emperor
said that he was right for the job. Once he took up the position, Ambrose gave away his property and
learned Scripture and theology. Ambrose used his skills as a lawyer and orator to fight the Arians in
church, court, senate, and even the emperor s own family. (St. Ambrose par. 7) Although his
stubbornness originally made him deny the job. It was his stubbornness that also made him a strong
bishop. (St. Ambrose par.1 7)
One of Saint Ambrose s famous quotes is A kindness received should be returned with a freer hand.
He said this because he was living in a time when people were not treated kindly. Saint Ambrose
believed in human kindness and equality. These are some qualities that make Saint Ambrose a saint.
Saint Ambrose was a good man who calmed the people and settled arguments. Saint Ambrose is a

It also means that you do not do things for people in hopes that they will repay you. You do it because
it is the right thing and makes you a better person. A kindness received should be returned with a freer

they are, not on how much money they make or how many friends they have. This quotes strongest

Goldfish Ventilation
The Carassius auratus (goldfish) is an ectotherm and its physiologic functions are influenced by the
shifts in their external temperature. In this experiment, we hypothesized the ventilation and oxygen
consumption of the goldfish in a warm environment will have higher rates than goldfish in a cold
environment. Based on the results, there was a statistical significance with a 99.5% confidence level in
the ventilation rate of each treatment. According to a previous study by Szekeres et al. (2014), goldfish
exposed to cold temperatures express a significantly lower ventilation rate than the goldfish in a
control environment. However, there was not a statistical significance in the oxygen consumption
rates of each treatment due to a 90% confidence

Gender Nature Vs Nurture
For years, the issues involving nature vs. nurture have been discussed and argued. Many aspects of
humans lives can be changed by genetics or the environment the individual was brought up in. One
thing both of these influence is the way gender affects individuals learning styles. An article written by
Kelley King, Michael Gurian, and Kathy Stevens discusses how boys and girls have developmental
differences that are deep enough to merit distinct educational practices. While a second article, by Lise
Eliot, explains more on the side of the environment being the main factor as she explains gender
stereotypes within cultures cause differences in learning styles. Although both articles present on
opposite sides of the nature vs. nurture debate, they both mention that, no matter what the cause is,
there is a problem in our school systems relating to gender. Another reading by Richard A. Lippa,
extends on this topic by providing solutions to the gender gap. Lippa also explains how these
differences come to be through nature and nurture.
When discussing how nature and genetics affect genders learning styles, we can look at the article,
Gender Friendly Schools by Kelley King, Michael Gurian, and Kathy Stevens. This article talks about
how certain genetic factors make separating classrooms beneficial. Specifically, the article mentions a
few schools who increased their test scores, specifically for boys, when they tried separating
classrooms by gender. Also, it is mentioned

A Compartment Of Tendon Progenitors
A Somitic Compartment of Tendon Progenitors Summary
Tendons are some of the most important tissues in the body of any organism, transferring the power
created by the muscles to the bones and allowing coordinated body movements to occur. However,
until recently there was very little known about the origin of this tissue and most of the research
performed focused on the limbs and the tendons associated with them. Along with the limited amount
of research seemingly none of it was focused on the axial and ventrolateral body wall tendons. It was
not until the discovery of Scleraxis (Scx), a bHLH transcription factor found in progenitor cells and
mature tendons, that tendons could be observed through the embryonic stages (Schweitzer et al. ...

Upon confirming that axial and intercostal tendons originated from the somites, the researchers
wanted to determine if the other somitic compartments affected the syndetome fate. Double whole
mount in situ hybridization was used to compare Scx in progenitor cells, Pax1 in sclerotome, and
MyoD in myotome. Scx expression was restricted to the anterior and posterior borders while MyoD
expression was present in the center of the myotome with no overlap of the two markers. When Scx
was compared to Pax1 it appeared that they existed in the same region; however, Pax1 was expressed
more ventromedial and Scx was closer to the myotome, these markers did not have any overlap either.
Additionally, Scx expression occurred much later in development compared to MyoD and Pax1(Kiefer
and Hauschka, 2001; Stockdale et al., 2000). It showed that the Scx expression progenitor cells had a
distinct fate producing a separate compartment of tendon progenitor cells, which did not overlap with
the adjacent tissues.
To establish the origin of the syndetome a fate map was created using a chick quail chimera where two
successive sclerotomes or dermomyotomes were transplanted from a quail to a chick embryo.
Utilizing in situ hybridization to visualize Scx expression and QCPN to identify quail cells,
sclerotome and Scx expressing tendon

Importance Of Thanksgiving In 1777
The Continental Congress announced a Thanksgiving for the thirteen colonies in 1777, but it was only
a regional holiday. So in 1789, President George Washington declared Thursday, November 26 to be a
day of public thanksgiving and prayer. For the next two centuries, days of thanksgiving were
celebrated by individual colonies and states.
Until Sarah Josepha Hale, author of the nursery rhyme Mary had a Little Lamb, and editor of Godey s
Lady s Book, became one of the most influential people in making Thanksgiving a national holiday.
She fought for 17 years and finally, during the Civil War, she convinced President Lincoln. On
October 3, 1863, Abraham Lincoln issued a Thanksgiving Proclamation to invite fellow citizens in

Examples Of Imagery In All Quiet On The Western Front By...
In the book All Quiet on the Western Front Erich Maria Remarque uses literary devices such as
metaphors, similes, and imagery to help the reader have a better understanding of what he went
through in the war. On page 70 the recruits are getting attacked by bombs and deadly gas. When Paul
is talking about being bombed and having to use gas masks to breath he says I climb out over the edge
of the shell hole. In the dirty twilight lies a leg torn clean off; the boot is quite whole, (Remarque 70).
This piece of text is an example of imagery because Remarque describes a very detailed picture of
how graphic and traumatizing it was to be in the war. It is very disturbing to look around and see
bloody body parts everywhere, but Remarque does a good

Effectiveness, Pleasure, And Virtue In The Norton Book Of...
In The Norton Book of Friendship, the idea of friendship is defined and explained by many great
philosophers. Among these, Aristotle s piece from Nicomachean Ethics. In this short excerpt, Aristotle
defines and classifies friendship into three main categories: usefulness, pleasure, and virtue. He claims
that in any friendship, one or more of these three motives have to be present. He also says that in order
for a friendship to be successful, it must be reciprocal. In friendships of usefulness, both parties have
to benefit from the relationship. Aristotle states, a friend is loved not because he is a friend, but
because he is useful or pleasant (67). Not only does he claim this to be a type of friendship, but he
goes on to explain that such a friendship is most commonly found in older adults because once one
reaches a certain age men look for the beneficial rather than the pleasure. In some cases, however,
younger ambiguous men tend to direct themselves towards the benefits of a friendship. In contrast,

This is a friendship between good men who are alike in excellence or virtue (Aristotle 67). This is a
friendship held together by no other reason than the fact that one is a virtuous individual. Aristotle
believes it to be the perfect form of friendship (67). This is the longest lasting form of friendship as
there is no other reason for it but virtue, and as long as virtue is there this friendship can last forever.
Aristotle again refers back to time as being a key point in a virtuous friendship. He quotes a proverb
stating that people cannot know each other until they have eaten the specified salt together... The wish
to be friends can come about quickly, but friendship cannot (68). Here Aristotle is saying that one
cannot be true friends with someone out of pure desire, you have to spend years getting to know him

Rebecca Krieger Cottingham
Born in 1963
Has lived in the following places between 1963 and 1989: Batesville, Indiana; Tucson, Arizona;
Bloomington, Indiana; Singapore; Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C.
This interview was done on July 17, 2016, at 6:00 pm
Part B
Me: Thank you for allowing me to interview you. I would like to ask you about the subject of the Cold
War. At the end, I will also be asking a couple personal questions.
Question 1: What was the first time you remember hearing about the conflict between the Soviet
Union (or the USSR) and the United States? Tell me about it.
Rebecca: Well, I cannot really remember the first time that I heard about the conflict between the
Soviet Union and the United States. If I think about it, I think that this knowledge was something that
I kind of just absorbed...but did not really understand because no one really took the time to explain
the situation to young children when I was young. I also really do not remember learning much about
the conflict while I was in school.
Strangely enough, I remember hiding in a closet one time, and trying to figure out how I was going to
hide and hold my breath, when the Russians came . I was trying to figure out how I could be so quiet
that they would not find me when they came to search the house. I also remember thinking that the
Russians were somewhere not that far away, where they could easily travel into Indiana and invade
and take over.

Analysis Of Paradise Of The Blind
Concept of Love in Paradise of the Blind As one explores the novel, Paradise of the Blind, the author

analytical meaning behind their perspectives of love. Thus, the concept of love is prevalent throughout

Que was not able to provide for her because of Uncle Chinh s illness. Through this altercation, we see
that as Aunt Tam provides for Hang materialistically the relationship and love between Hang and Que
starts to disintegrate. Starting from motherly love and the progression to materialistic love and now
finally the descent of love between the two. Que feels that Hang looks up to Aunt Tam more than she
does to her because she demonstrates a feeling as if Aunt Tam is able to provide better for Hang than
Que herself can provide. Next, when Hang meets Aunt Tam for the first time within her life, Hang
instinctually feels a sense of the love that comes from that of a father through her Aunt because of
their close resemblance. Her initial emotional response was This voraciousness put me ill at ease. I
knew she was my blood, the link to my father. This was the love that had been buried, impossible to

Jack’s Transformation in Jack and the Beanstalk Essay
Jack and the Beanstalk Jack s Transformation
Jack and the Beanstalk is an example of a Buildungsroman. As the tale progresses, Jack evolves from
an immature person into a mature, self assertive person. While minor differences exist in various
versions of the tale, such as those between Joseph Jacobs and Horace Elisha Scudder s versions, the
tale can always be read as Jack s quest for maturity. Some critics, however, analyze the tale as one in
which Jack remains spoiled and immature. While they make points which support their claims, careful
analysis of the tale will reveal that Jack s struggle to grow up and to achieve maturity is representative
of the difficult process of adolescent (especially male) maturation and the ... Show more content on

A closer reading, though, reveals why entering into the Giant s land and stealing the Giant s treasures
is significant to the progress of Jack s maturity.
Jack does indeed begin as an immature, spoiled child. In Scudder s version, which is a moral version
containing a fairy who justifies Jack s decision to steal the Giant s treasures, Jack s mother blames him
for making her a beggar (23). In Jacobs version, which is a traditional version without the fairy, Jack s
inability to get a job shows his immaturity. As Martha Wolfenstein states, Jack is spoiled or lazy or
cannot hold a job or . . . has carelessly exhausted the family substance (243). When the cow, Milky
white, stops giving milk, Jack s mother sends him to the marketplace to sell the cow for money
(Jacobs 59). This venture is a very important first step in Jack s road to maturity, though it may not
seem so at the time. This is the first time that we know of Jack s mother ever sending him to the
market. According to Bruno Bettelheim, this first encounter with the world represents the end of
infancy for Jack. As Bettelheim reminds us, Jack s mother demands that he learn to make do with
what the outside world can offer (188). Now that Jack can no longer expect his mother to do
everything for him, he realizes that he must take steps toward maturity. As Bettelheim says, The child
then has to begin the long and difficult

  • 2. Huntington Disease Research Paper Most of the carriers of Huntington disease are usually childhood victims (Donaldson, Marsden, Schneider, Bhatia, 2012). From this point of view, an increase in the length of the CAG section causes the production of an abnormal form of the Huntington protein (Donaldson, Marsden, Schneider, Bhatia, 2012). The lengthened defective protein is then cut into smaller and defective fragments that bind neurons together, which in turn disrupts their required functions of the brain. The abnormal functioning leads to eventual death of the neurons in some regions within the brain, which in turn leads to the symptoms of Huntington disease (Marks Neill, 2007). Inheritance Huntington disease is featured by an autosomal inheritance that is dominant, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Panda Bear Or Giant Panda The panda bear or giant panda is located in the south central area of China. It is recognized for its appearance. It belongs to the Carnivore group even though it eats 99% bamboo. Pandas found in the wild will eat other grasses, wild tubers, or meat in the form of birds, rodents, or carrion. Pandas in captivity receive honey, eggs, fish, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, bananas, or other specially prepared foods. Pandas live in mountain ranges because deforestation has driven them from lowland areas. The panda is an endangered species. According to a 2007 report, there are 239 pandas living in captivity in China, 27 pandas living outside the country, and 1,590 pandas living in the wild. The panda bear is a great symbol in China. This animal is noticed because it is on the endangered species list. The red panda, though it shares the name of panda, is not a bear. It is more closely related to a raccoon or skunk and is an endangered species. This panda is called the red panda, lesser panda, or red cat bear. This animal is not closely related to the giant panda or panda bear. This is an animal that is adorable and cuddly looking but it also is so much larger than it appears. Cultural Symbolism: The panda bear is not only a fluffy creature it is also symbolic to China. The panda can symbolize friendship and peace. The colors on the panda help resemble the Yin Yang by showing how the two colors can mix and with the pandas nature it backs this up. The panda is really peaceful and ... • 4. Rhetorical Analysis Of Malala Yousafzai Nobel Peace Prize... Malala Yousafzai Nobel Peace Prize Speech Analysis I am those 66 million girls who are deprived of education. And today I am not raising my voice, it is the voice of those 66 million girls. Malala Yousafzai makes this statement in her speech to the Nobel Committee as the first Pakistani and, at the age of sixteen, the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize Award. Malala was unfortunately shot in the head by a member of the Taliban, due to the fact that she defied a culture that did not allow girls to have an education. Despite her brush with death, she not only recovered, but became a champion for the rights of children and girls around the world to receive an education. Malala delivered a speech before the Nobel Committee ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Her use of pathos allows her to connect with the audience on an emotional level and helps drive home her argument. Additionally, her use of ethos allows her to present herself to t audience as a reliable figure by saying, some people call me the girl who was shot by the Taliban... some people call me a nobel Laureate now. She convinces the audience of her credibility by reminding them of her personal experience and that she stands as a credible source. Malala says that the award is not only for her, but the Nobel Peace Prize money [will be dedicated] to the Malala Fund , the official organization led by Malala Yousafzai. She builds on personal examples from her life to support the issue, which shows that she has first hand experience with the problem and that she is dedicated to finding a solution. Together with strong appeals to pathos and ethos, she establishes the significance of this subject, persuading the audience to listen to her call to action. She says Dear sisters and brothers, dear fellow children, we must work...not wait. Not just the politicians and the world leaders, we all need to contribute. Me. You. We. It is our duty (Malala). She reinforces her ideas and provides the strength and seriousness that the topic deserves, while motivating the audience to unite and face this issue. Furthermore, she says that ... • 5. Google Android s Smartphone Superiority over Apple s IOS... If you are a dedicated iPhone consumer you must realize that you have basically bought the same phone over and over again. It is time to trash the iPhone and get a new Android. Although Apple s tyrannical iPhones took the cake by far in the beginnings of the smartphone revolution, Google Android soon came in to assert its dominance over the now pathetic iPhone, much like an omega wolf taking down an alpha wolf to become the new leader of the pack. With Android s wide variety of smartphones, like the well known Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One, consumers have more options than ever. Also, the Android phones themselves are unequivocally better when it comes to customizability. On Apple s part, software features are severely lagging; Whereas, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The customizability of Android, in comparison to the iPhone, is like comparing a rich man to a peddler. Android is rich with customizability options like the ability to root, which basically gives you the privilege to do whatever you want to your phone by the way of software customization(Black Dog Media Limited 96). If you are not at all knowledgeable of how to operate a smartphone, most Android smartphones have an available easy mode on it, which makes the phone as easy to use as a Jitterbug. However, Apple, the peddler in this circumstance, has few customizability features which are limited to folders, home and lock screen background changes, a favorite s bar at the bottom and changing the order of the apps, all of which use to set Apple apart; however, now Android devices can do as well. Android devices have so many available features (refer to list) and more (Kovach, 11 Things Samsung s Galaxy S4 Can Do That The iPhone 5S Can t ). After hearing this how many of you would rush to the Apple Store if it included these features? Probably almost all of you, but the iPhone does not include these features. Instead Apple has only a limited number of features and options, which create a less user friendly interface than that of its Android competitor. Apple negatively affects its users ... They cause a catastrophic influence and impact on victims. The impact and effects of burns ranges from mild to severe, while as the primary influence and effects of burns, occur in terms such as suffering, disability, financial loss and death of victims. According to the Royal children s Hospital (2016), minor burns are the most sustained types of burns and in most instances, they occur as a result of household activities. Occupational and work related burns account for all serious burns witnessed within a local healthcare district. Cleland (2012) states that people of all ages and occupations are susceptible to burns. However, women and children are most susceptible to minor burns. Minor burns are also described as superficial or first degree burns. They damage the superficial lay of the skin making the burnt area turn red and significantly painful. Blisters are likely to occur in case first aid services are not adequately or timely offered. They are mainly brought about by contact with hot fluids, objects, corrosive chemicals, exposure to scotching sun rays, steam and hot furnace surfaces. • 7. What Is Locke s Argument For The Existence Of Spinoza Similarly to the way Spinoza took the terms given by Descartes to an extreme, Berkeley did with Locke. When Locke argued for the existence of a substratum holding our perceptions of phenomena together, he defined the substratum as something, I know not what. Berkeley, found that notion to be preposterous and a blatant contradiction. It is unintelligible to claim to have a coherent idea of something that is by definition, impossible to have an idea of it. Besides, even if it were remotely possible to form an idea of substance there would be no reason to believe there could ever be such a thing in existence. It is not impossible for all of our perceptions to exist without the presence of a material substance. Berkeley goes on to reject Locke s distinction between secondary and primary qualities; because he feels that if anyone took the time to really read about it, then they would realize they are the same thing. In Berkeley s opinion it is a categorical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Berkeley was not naïve enough to believe things disappeared and popped back into existence depending on whether or not a human mind was actively perceiving it. He knew we did not possess that kind of power. Also, that we do not always have complete control of our perceptions of impressions. He defines real things as things that possesses qualities of coherence, order, steadiness, etc. It is unwise to believe ideas of real things can be anything but a perception in a mind. Since there is an undeniable uniformity it is not determined by our will (like our imagination is) our ideas of real things are imprinted onto our senses by the goodness and wisdom of that governing spirit whose will constitutes the laws of nature, (pp.453) making it possible for a man to manage ... • 8. Essay about The Theme of Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill In the story Miss Brill, an old, lonely lady spends her Sunday observing people in a park. Although ignored by everyone around her, Miss Brill manages to convince herself that she is really an integral part of the scene and would be missed if she weren t there. Her illusion is shattered by a chance remark at the end of the story, and she returns home, clearly devastated by her new understanding of her place in life. What this story is trying to illustrate is that sometimes people can be happy through living in an illusion. However, this kind of happiness is fragile and can be easily destroyed. Unfortunately, modern society does not provide a place for everyone. Inevitably, there are those people, often elderly, who become ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She pays attention to the smallest details. Wasn t the conductor [of the band in the park] wearing a new coat, too? She was sure it was new. He scraped with his foot and flapped his arms like a rooster about to crow... Now came a little flutey bit very pretty! a little chain of bright drops. She was sure it would be repeated. It was; she lifted her head and smiled (98). Even if she s only an observer, Miss Brill is an involved observer. She draws enjoyment from simply being in the park atmosphere. However, her enjoyment is more than a passing mood. It s actually an indication of a deeper emotion a kind of happiness. This becomes clear after Miss Brill has paid close attention to several small exchanges between people at the park. Oh how fascinating it was! How she enjoyed it! How she loved sitting here, watching it all! (99). That Miss Brill does not actually participate in anything is clear to the reader, but not to her. Vicarious involvement in other people s lives seems to be fulfilling for her, even though there is no actual interplay with others. The most telling evidence that Miss Brill is happy (and that her happiness is based on a false impression) is when she comes to the conclusion that she s somehow needed at the park. No doubt somebody would have noticed if she hadn t been there; she was part of the performance after all... Miss Brill nearly laughed out loud (100). This realization eventually moves Miss Brill to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Informative Essay On Homelessness On a cold rainy Saturday in December, just two days before Christmas, in 2006 Andy Sandness set out to do some grocery shopping on his day off from work. Everything was going as planned until an announcement came over the speaker at Piggly Wiggly saying Attention shoppers please do not panic and take cover immediately. Naturally panic immediately broke out all over the store as gunshots rang through the produce aisle. Babies were crying, mothers were covering their children, elderly people were struggling to move to a safe place, and food was flooding the aisles. Sandness, a local rancher and volunteer firefighter/emt sprung into action. He alerted authorities and located the shooter. A million thoughts ran through my mind in the seconds ... A few months after being home Sandness was called to the fire station where he found many familiar faces that were along with him in Piggly Wiggly that cold rainy day in December of 2006 honoring him with a plaque and saying there will now be a day in the community in honor of not only his braveness but his selflessness. When Sandness was called up to be presented with his plaque and went up to give a speech he was greeted by some unknown faces. With one look I felt an overwhelming connection with these people I have never met, Sandness said. The microphone was handed over to the woman, as she began to speak her voice cracked and her face flooded with tears. Sandness then realized that this woman was the mother of young man, a fallen soldier home on leave when he was assaulted and killed after trying to stop a robbery, that he was now wearing on his face. Up to date Sandness is in very close contact with this family. This event was never expected in the small town of Hutchinson, Minnesota. • 10. The Safety Of The Air Travel As one of the most popular methods of travel worldwide, air travel is something most can t live without. But we know that a metal tube soaring through the air at 40,000 feet, in a low oxygen environment, at over 400 knots can contain a risk or two. When the worst case scenario happens, who foots this bill? Is it the airline, country, maintenance facility? Or maybe it is a terrorist organization that was responsible for the accident. Either way, in the aftermath of an aircraft accident, people want nothing more than to be able to mourn the loss of their loved ones without the politics involved in the accountability department. Historically, these horrific accidents could have been prevented in most cases and I m here to tell you that unless the accident was caused by an act of war, the airline is absolutely responsible to the families of the victims involved. Under an international agreement known as the Montreal Convention of 1999, an airline generally cannot escape liability for a passenger death (Ingram) and per the IATA, the airline is responsible for death and injury as well as loss of baggage and cargo. The Montreal Convention makes it difficult for an airline to propose any type of argument because it is an international treaty and a standardized way of pointing fingers at the airline when an accident occurs. Complementing this international treaty is the Title 14 code of Federal Regulations which governs Airworthiness Certification and Operation of all commercial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Shadow of the Night Shadow of the Night On a freezing, dark blue night of Li, in the Village of Li Marta. This was an old little village, the houses were nothing but ash and rubble except an old abandoned barn. The barn had creaking floor boards and a rotten wooden roof. In this abandoned barn there lived a young and confident farm boy; his clothes were ragged and full of holes. The young boy was called Rye named after the agricultural god Ren Rye. As Rye was sitting on the creaking floor boards a thought hit him, he remembered something his mother told him, be strong like an ox! Suddenly a gang of raiders came down from the north came to torch the village to ashes. A horn blew. It was the raider chieftain Kai Tai s way of terrifying the villagers. Outside the Barn two raiders were battering through the barn door, then Rye s mother said hide, son! Hide in the rafters! from his hiding place Rye saw the doomed doors explode into a shower of splinters and he saw his mother being dragged away. Rye remembered those horrendous moments. In frustration he would kick a stone for no purpose or reason. His father fought till his last breath and defending Rye, valiantly clutching his pitchfork. A study of trends in saving and consumption by middle and lower middle class at national level INTRODUCTION Right from our childhood days, our parents teach us that save penny and earned penny. The phrase highlights the significance of individual and household savings. With the passage of time, our elders constantly tell us that we should spend less than we earn and save some part for uncertain and better future use. Our elders also educate us to use resources and money according to our income, and our expenses should be less than our income. From the classical days, saving has been considered as one of the element of expansion and growth. In Indian economy, the household sector contributes the lion s share of the total savings. As far as the household and rural household sector is concerned they have remarkable saving potential which has not been considered seriously by the policy makers and hence, measures have not been chartered to organize these enormous savings. In this theory Keynes examined the tender of value function of money along with transaction function. According to Keynes in general there are tree motives that create the demand for money. They are transaction motive, precautionary motive and speculative motive. 1. Transaction motive It refers to the demand for money for the present transaction of the people. It is composed of carefully collected data, and several hypothetical tests or experiments. Creswell, (2009) , theory differs from a hypothesis in that it is a set of scientific method, a process of asking and answering questions based on experiments. A theory not only explains proven facts; it also allows researchers to make predictions based on what they observe if a theory is proven or said to be true ( Laureate Education Inc., 2009). When conducting research, a researcher may choose to the three different methodologies that include quantitative, qualitative, and mixed research methods to analyze the data collected. These three methodologies all have differing ways of reaching a conclusion in a research study. For example, Quantitative research uses deductive or confirmatory scientific method; it is used primarily as a source of description, explanation, and as a way to predict an outcome. Quantitative research was built on the basis of quantitative data, used almost always as the analysis of variables. Many aspects of humans lives can be changed by genetics or the environment the individual was brought up in. One thing both of these influence is the way gender affects individuals learning styles. An article written by Kelley King, Michael Gurian, and Kathy Stevens discusses how boys and girls have developmental differences that are deep enough to merit distinct educational practices. While a second article, by Lise Eliot, explains more on the side of the environment being the main factor as she explains gender stereotypes within cultures cause differences in learning styles. Although both articles present on opposite sides of the nature vs. nurture debate, they both mention that, no matter what the cause is, there is a problem in our school systems relating to gender. Another reading by Richard A. Lippa, extends on this topic by providing solutions to the gender gap. Lippa also explains how these differences come to be through nature and nurture. When discussing how nature and genetics affect genders learning styles, we can look at the article, Gender Friendly Schools by Kelley King, Michael Gurian, and Kathy Stevens. Along with the limited amount of research seemingly none of it was focused on the axial and ventrolateral body wall tendons. Scx expression was restricted to the anterior and posterior borders while MyoD expression was present in the center of the myotome with no overlap of the two markers. When Scx was compared to Pax1 it appeared that they existed in the same region; however, Pax1 was expressed more ventromedial and Scx was closer to the myotome, these markers did not have any overlap either. Additionally, Scx expression occurred much later in development compared to MyoD and Pax1(Kiefer and Hauschka, 2001; Stockdale et al., 2000). It showed that the Scx expression progenitor cells had a distinct fate producing a separate compartment of tendon progenitor cells, which did not overlap with the adjacent tissues. In Scudder s version, which is a moral version containing a fairy who justifies Jack s decision to steal the Giant s treasures, Jack s mother blames him for making her a beggar (23). In Jacobs version, which is a traditional version without the fairy, Jack s inability to get a job shows his immaturity. Especially, when the depth and perception is confirmed when you look up at the ceiling of the cave.
