Essay On Modern Technology
Writing an essay on the topic of modern technology can be both challenging and rewarding. The
difficulty arises from the vast scope of the subject matter, as modern technology encompasses a
wide range of fields and advancements. It requires a comprehensive understanding of various
technological innovations, their impact on society, and the ethical considerations surrounding
them.
One of the challenges is staying updated with the latest developments, as technology is
constantly evolving. The fast-paced nature of technological advancements means that
information can become outdated quickly, requiring the writer to continuously research and
incorporate the most recent findings. Additionally, conveying complex technological concepts in
a clear and accessible manner for a diverse audience can be demanding.
Moreover, addressing the societal implications of modern technology necessitates a nuanced
approach. It requires a deep dive into the ethical, social, and economic aspects of technological
progress. Balancing the positive and negative impacts of technology while presenting a well-
structured argument requires careful consideration and critical analysis.
Despite the challenges, writing an essay on modern technology offers the opportunity to explore
fascinating aspects of human innovation and progress. It allows the writer to delve into topics
such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, environmental sustainability, and the
interconnectedness of the digital world.
In conclusion, tackling an essay on modern technology demands a commitment to staying
informed, a critical mindset, and an ability to communicate complex ideas clearly. The process
involves navigating through the ever-changing landscape of technological advancements while
addressing the multifaceted impact on society. With the right approach, however, it can be a
fulfilling endeavor that enhances one's understanding of the role of technology in shaping the
contemporary world.

Descriptive Essay On Getting A Dog
There s one dream that all children have in common, getting a dog. I was once one
of those children. Fourth grade me, wanted...needed to have a dog. I would do or
say anything to make my parents give in to my obsession. Unfortunately, I was the
second youngest out of five kids and my parents had grown a strong backbone
through experience with the others. But I knew, with the help of my siblings and
my adorable ten year old charm, I would have a fair chance of winning this battle. I
knew this because at the end of the day, every parentwants to see their child happy,
even if that means getting a dog. The first step to getting a dog, or getting anything
I wanted, was to convince my dad. I ve always been my dad s little girl , and I
knew his soft spots. I remember little ten year old me walking up to my dad s
office and knocking on the door. Peaking my head in, my dad put his finger to his
mouth telling me to be quiet, then ushered me to walk in. I knew he was on a
work call but I sat on his lap anyway. This was my first move. The second was
waiting until he hung up on the work call, then casually asking him about his day.
Once I knew he was softened up, I would ask him about the dog. Hey Dad... I
hesitated
Uh oh, what do you want? He could tell by the tone in my voice.
Why don t we have a dog? I could hear him trying to stifle a laugh when he realized I
was serious.
Because your mother and I don t have time to take care of a dog.
Here s my opportunity, What if I
Problems Of Using Big Data Help Us Understand What...
What are the problems in using big data to help us understand what customers want?
Introduction
Big data, defined as a popular term used to describe the exponential growth and
availability of data (What is Big Data? , n. d. ), has attracted considerable interest in
many fields as it promises to offer a level of analytic detail that has not been reached
so far. Whilst it is often promoted as the solution to many marketing problems, it has
some significant disadvantages. Cost, personnel, problems relating to the
interpretation of the data and difficulties deciding how to apply the new knowledge
to existing products and product design are all important problems.
Situation There is a line chart above from Google Trends which ... Show more content

Velocity. Massive data should be dealt with in time otherwise the quality of data will
lose.
Probably, Big Data can be the future of marketing. However, there are some
problems in using Big Data because of these characteristics. If we don t know how
to address problems, the investment will be wasted but enterprises still search around
in the haystack for the needle. Therefore, I will illustrate the problems and find out
some solutions for Big Data.
Problems
Firstly, the main problem is deciding which data should be selected. The data,
explaining customers desire and need, is important to be collected while most of the
businesses are confusing what data they should concentrate on. A recent Gartner
report (2014) stresses that 64% of firms raced to plan or launch a Big Data project,
though they didn t have enough professional knowledge yet. To understand what
customers need through Big Data possibly turns into the core of companies target.
The large data volumes and different varieties of data lead to complexity.
Secondly, the result predicted by Big Data probably isn t true at last. (MARCUS,
DAVIS. 2014).This phenomenon doesn t happen by accident in many companies.
Take Google Flu Trends as an example, they predicted that the Disease Control and
Protection Center wasn t able to control the flu spread quickly and effectively as time
went on. Later, this conclusion was proved wrong. Hence, it means that future
prediction contains inconsistencies
Essay On Yellowstone Supervolcano
The Yellowstone is known as one of six largest supervolcanoes in the world.
Though this supervolcano has not erupted recently it does have continue to have
volcanic activities. The previous eruption remains have been found outside of the
Yellowstone National Park that link to the Yellowstone Caldera. Ben Ellis and
Mark Darren, authors of the article Super eruptions and silicic volcanism from the
Yellowstone volcanic field, describes current volcanic activities of this area and how
it has expanded and transition from its previous super eruptions to what has happen
now, and what changes could another volcanic reaction cause for this area. Ellis and
Darren wrote that the . . . evidence of volcanic activity is all around (135). In this
they were talking about Yellowstone.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The visitors have noticed this as well on the surface of the park. This area along with
the surround area about half of the earth has plenty of basalts and rhyolites with rock
and it can be found in the surrounding region. This shows history of a past super
volcanic eruption that has changed the world and its atmosphere to what it is today.
This magma once has too much pressure built up will erupt which will be known as
a super eruption. As authors Ellis and Mark wrote that [super eruptions] are
considered to be the greatest geological hazard to mankind . . . (135). So if
Yellowstone Caldera suddenly erupts Wyoming along with the surround states such
as Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, and North and South Dakota that will
be effected and all of the environment and humanity in that area. Yellowstone Caldera
eruption cannot be stopped if it ever happens, but hopefully precautions can be taken
to prevent this disaster being an uncontrollable natural
Abraham Cowley s Argument For Drinking
Individuals usually tend to justify themselves in positive light rather than admitting
the truth. It is quite a natural thing to do whether it s admitting you are wrong or
justifying why you are not guilty. Abraham Cowley clearly illustrates this in poem
Drinking where he tries to justify drinking is natural. Which is true natureis constantly
drinking water to survive and flourish whether it s from living organisms or the
cycles involving water. This logic is flawed because the author is using the term
drinking loosely as he uses alcohol whereas nature uses mainly water. He does have a
strong argument that nature needs to drink so why shouldn t he but abuse the term
for his guilt.
Abraham uses nature to justify why drinking alcohol is natural because everything in

Going with the interpretation that there is no alcohol in water you cant get drunk.
Water gives and sustains life in nature but it does not get anything drunk. If nature
were drunk it would not preform the way it does now. When someone gets drunk
your body has to eventually clear out the toxins in the liver. If it was natural you
wouldn t be making impaired judgments and doing things you regret the next day.
The author says, Should every creature drink but I, Why, man of morals, tell me
why? this exemplifies how the author knows that most readers are going to disagree
with him. We cant tell he talking about alcohol when he says, Fill all the glasses
then, meaning more glasses with alcohol so they can drink which is natural. The
author comes from the perspective that he is drunk and is trying to make a joke at
how drinking is natural. He just laughs about his justification for drinking alcohol but
trying connecting to nature. He is using the term drinking loosely because drinking
for him is alcohol and for nature it is water. Water is an essential for everything

Working Well And How Group Project If There Is A
Chance...
Based on the small group that I joined in communication class, I will talk about
what is working well and what is getting in the way in our group. Then I will
discuss about what I can do to improve the group and the things about group project
if there is a chance for a start over again. At last, I am also going to talk about what I
think that I learned is important lesson in this semester.
First of all, the things that were working well is about our different roles. We have
five people in our group and two girls with three boys. For example, three boys are
the Maintenance roles to help the group run smoothly (99). To be more specific,
they are always talking to each other to check when we have any group works due.
They also mentioned to us if there was any individual homework due. These are
the roles for keeping the group on track. On the other hand, two girls were more
like task roles and were to help get the job done (98). We are always divided works
for our group members to finish our group projects. We also will contact every group
members before our group meetings to make sure they finish their own works.
Therefore, having different roles is the thing that we are working well. Then what is
getting in the way is about our group meeting is on time now. When we just met
each other first time, we did not know each other very well. We are kind of
unconcern so most of us late for the first group meeting. However, when we talked to
each other more in the first group
Christian Beliefs Of The United Methodist Church
Since birth, I have been a Christian. Specifically, I belong to the United Methodist
Church. My mother was a Catholic, but had decided to become a United Methodist
and to raise me in that church. I have always believed in Christian beliefs such as
God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, as well as having read Biblestories since
childhood and participating in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, retreats,
and many other things. I have many essential memories of being in church, from
asking the pastor to allow me to finish the bread and grape juice from Communion at
the end of every Eucharist Sunday service (she always obliged) to being certified as a
Youth Lay Servant and giving a few sermons. My faith has been a big part of my life
for all nineteen years of it, and I try to live my life in a way I believe God wants me
to.
However, unlike many Christians who seem to always have criticism towards
every little transgression, I do not tell people things such as that they will go to
hell unless they conform to the way I believe they should act, based upon what
others say is written in the Bible. From my understanding of God, He would much
rather prefer me to love them despite their sins, as that is what Jesus did during His
time on Earth, as well as what He does at all times. I have seen many people who
will not or perhaps even cannot listen to what I say about my religion, because some
others had hurt them deeply in the name of God. The God I believe in would never

Boyle s film Slumdog Millionaire came out at the end of 2008, people instantly

This sense of being better and more powerful than Eastern countries that is felt in
England and the US, leads us to expect social injustices like the ones shown in
Slumdog Millionaire are a normal occurrence those living in the third world. The
fact that Jamal also escapes his fate of living a life of poverty only gives a
somewhat false sense of hope to people in this situation for the movies viewers and
helps to massage (Koehler, 454) their view on the harsh reality of a culture they
barely know. Miles also talks about how the movie plays on our false sense of
cultural reality in India, she quotes the Mumbai Mirror about how the term
slumdog is not a term that is widely recognized in India. They explain that, It
appears to be a British Invention to describe a poor Dharavi kid in a derogatory
way. The use of this coined and somewhat derogatory term only helps in supporting
the sense of western dominance over the east by classifying Jamal and many people
in similar socioeconomic situation as slumdogs. The authors are both very much in
agreement on their theory that one reason Slumdog Millionaire was so popular was
because of a combination of ignorance in the targeted westernized audience towards

The Myth Of The Devil
The everlasting tale of the devil dancing with humans always ends in tragedy. The
devil known as Lucifer or Satan once God s favourite, who grew jealous of God s
creations of humans, forcing a rebellion which results in the banishment of the
beloved angel. The fallen angel faces banishment from God s side and tempts humans
away from him. Temptation is the game of this unholy spirit, as the devilappeals in
order to obtain souls. This is shown in early Biblical history of Adam and Eve. Adam
and Eve are the first creations of God, living in the paradise known as the Garden of
Eden; God instructs both not to consume from the Tree of Knowledge which
Adam and Eve oblige to. Eve falls for the temptations of the snake, hidden as the
Devil, and ingests the apple from the Tree of Knowledge. Thus, angering God, he
removes his creations from the garden, as Adam and Eve disregard his command.
The devil s temptations are shown as far back into Biblical history and portrays in
today s literature, film and art. The portrayal of the devil in present literature is
known as the Devil Figure archetype. The Devil Figure archetype is a character
who tempts the hero from their hero s journey by offering gifts, lust, affection, fame
and possession in order to obtain their soul. The Devil Figure archetype is shown in

Essay Network Topologies
Network Topologies Network topologies are an important part of the network.
Without the proper topology, the network may not meet the needs of the
organization. The layout of a network is referred to as the topology. How nodes in a
network are connected to each other and communicate is determined by the topology.
There are three basic topologies with several typical variations, or combinations. A
description of four topologies follows. Mesh Topology Mesh topology is the first
topology discussed. In a mesh topology, the devices are connected with many
redundant interconnections between nodes. Each device in the mesh topology is
connected to every other device in the network. The mesh topology is the most
expensive to implement but is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Data is transferred quickly without congestion. All computers have the same amount
of access to the rest of the network. Disadvantages to the ring topology are, failure
of the network if one computer fails, isolating problems with the network is difficult,
and the addition or subtraction of computers to or from the network causes
disruption in the network. Star Topology The star topology consists of one central
switch, hub, or router to transmit messages. The computer will send a signal to the
hub, which receives and then retransmits the message to all the other computers or
devices attached to the hub. Good performance is an advantage to using the star
topology. Centralization of resources, ease of set up and expansion, and the network
still performs properly when one computer fails are all advantages to the star
topology. The expense of installation, extra hardware required, and if the central hub
fails the entire system fails, are disadvantages to the star topology. Ethernet Ethernet
is a network technology for local area networks (LAN). Ethernet uses a bus or star
topology and supports data transfer rates of 10Mbps. (Webopedia, 2007). Ethernet is
the most popular architecture used today. One advantage to Ethernet is the ease of
installation. Ethernet costs less than other network architectures and is easy to use.
Ethernet supports many different kinds of networking media, which makes it more

performers, led by the charismatic Leading Player, to tell the story of Pippin, a
young prince on his search for meaning and significance. Pippin is a Tony Award

Cause Of Workplace Violence
Literature Review
Causes of workplace violence in united state
There are three main causes of workplace violence so far experience in United State,
these include; workplace factors, personal factors, and person situation interactions.
Workplace factors
Attempt to predict violence in a place of work previously have focused almost on
personal factors in line with social learning theory. Marital violence is associated
with work stress in totality. Again feeling of job insecurity, use of electronic
surveillance and employees perceived workplace justice are the three main
workplace factors that may be considered important in foreseeing workplace violence
Workers perception of fairness is reflected in the structural justice, procedures and
policies as well as the organizational outcomes. Generally, workers involved in
efforts to reinstate their sense of justice when they perceived an injustice in the
factory. Violence may be a predictable outcome, by extension that the workers
alleged to be exposed at work, whether in terms of physical danger.
Furthermore, various occupational murders have been linked to employees who have
been approved over for elevations or indicted and certain that the process used was
unfair, also some of the events that precipitate the unfairness in the work place have
been connected to poor administration measures, coercion, and unreliable corrective
measures. Even though it is not the only contributing reason, occupational violence
can also be caused by perceptions of technical prejudice.
Personal Factor
Personal factors that contribute to work place violence includes alcohol abuse, past
history of aggression, and lack of self esteem.
Destructive conduct across a diversity of settings such as violence at the family level
that has been connected with the unnecessary use of alcohol. From a wide viewpoint
of emotional alignment, excess use of alcohol will increase workplace violence since
it increases the chance of the situation being misjudged and lowers mental and oral
operational.
Secondly apart from alcohol abuse, there are reasons why a person s past history of
aggression might trigger workplace violence, because aggression is a very stable
behavior. The recent use of aggression has

How I Spent Active And Be Outdoors
Since I was a young boy, I ve always loved to stay active and be outdoors. I used to
go to the park almost every day and play with my friends. I enjoyed playing all types
of sports, especially basketball and soccer, and still do today. I joined several sports
leagues throughout my life as well. I played 3 years of soccer, and 5 years of
basketball. Even though it was only club sports, I still played every gamelike it was
my last, and always pushed myself to improve my abilities. Sadly, many of the
physical activities I participated in throughout my life came to an end, when I injured

her she was furious, but at the same time, felt really bad because she knows how
much I dedicate myself to the sport. She told me to stop playing basketball for the
next 3 months and also cut my gym membership. It was one of the worst nights of

Basketball tryouts were 2 weeks away, and I knew I wouldn t be able to tryout. I tried
healing my ankle the fastest way possible, but the process was still too slow. I put ice

too badly, but I still couldn t play basketball. I was really disappointed, but I knew
not to give up. I set a positive mindset for myself and hoped to be healthy for
tryouts next year. Once my ankle healed, I went back to my routine, and played
basketball almost every day. I wore an ankle brace, so it protected my ankle from

Mood and Tone in Text and Film In the Zefirelli film, the author s overall tone and
mood was seemingly playful and yet a bit taunting. In the fight scene, it seemed as
if it was not an actual fight, merely a sparring practice. However, after the fight
scene, a more somber and angry tone took place enhancing the story line. The tone
and mood of the Luhrmann piece was straightforward and easy to recognize. With
the dramatic music and dark skies, a serious and angry mood and tone was easy to
recognize, where with the Zefirelli piece the mood and tone are a bit harder to
recognize. These two scenes were different in many ways, Zefirelli and Luhrmann
took two separate and obviously divided paths. The Luhrmann piece provided a

The Invention Of The Modern Automobile Essay

launched this whole craze and really kicked it off. It was not the only automotive
industry that has made risks that paid off big time. As a matter of fact the
blueprint for the modern automobile was perfected in Germany and France in the
late 1800s, so we weren t even the one who perfected the modern automobile.
General Motors On September 16, 1908 Durant spends $2,000 to incorporate
General Motors in New Jersey. Durant a high school dropout had made his fortune
building horse drawn carriages and in fact he hated cars he thought they were noisy,
smelly, and dangerous (William Durant creates General Motors, 2016). but the giant
company he built would dominate the American auto industry for decades(William
Durant creates General Motors, 2016). In the first years of the 20th century
however that industry was a mess. There were about 45 different car companies in
the United States most of which sold only a handful of cars each year (William
Durant creates General Motors, 2016). Industrialist Benjamin Briscoe called this
way of doing business manufacturing gambling and he proposed a better idea
(William Durant creates General Motors, 2016). To build consumer confidence and
drive the weakest car companies out of business he wanted to consolidate the largest
and most reliable manufacturers into one big company (William Durant creates
General Motors, 2016). This idea
Hesiod Works And Days Summary
Ancient Greek poetry is celebrated for portraying classic tales of heroics and epic
legends, yet very few poets were concerned with the unpretentious livelihoods of
the common man. Among these Greek poets is Hesiod, whose works have been
sourced for its depictions of early social customs and economic practices. Hesiod is
distinct from other ancient singers because he may have been a tangible person,
and not simply a figure pieced together from a cluster of other bards. His surviving
piece, Works and Days, demonstrates his physical existence as a guide for his inept
brother, Perses. He warns Perses that the unscrupulous road he is following would
lead only to calamity and despair. Hesiod advises his brother to lead a life of honest

ENGL 501: Great Works of Ancient Literature (Fall 2016)
Through this course I developed a deeper comprehension of ancient literature. I
studied the works of Homer (The Iliad) and Plato (Republic) as well as Greek lyric
poetry (Archilochus and Sappho). My personal takeaways included a more contextual
understanding of how the ancient Greeks conceived of literature, viewing it as a
means of historical preservation as well as a tool to build psychological and
philosophical understanding. Moreover, I came to recognize the more practical or
utilitarian purpose of literature that Ancient societies employed. Likewise, I benefited
from the acquaintance with new argumentative material to share with my secondary
students. The background knowledge of Homer and Plato have provided a
springboard for me to build stronger discursive discussions in my own classroom.
ENGL 525: Studies in the Short Story (Fall 2016)
A deeper conception of what constitutes a short story is what I anticipated when
signing up for this course. Yet, while I did gain knowledge of the components of a
short story, I also took away a wealth of insight on how to take apart, discuss, and
synthesize new ideas from reading short stories. The short story is the medium that
most of high school and undergraduate students begin to read what is considered
literature. Therefore, I found this course to be a vital asset to both my professional
and pedagogical development. We read and discussed a wide range of texts with a

Post independence, the Philippines economy swirled through a dizzying cycle of
boom and bust. During the 1950s, the country tried to become an industrialized
nation with the policy of import substitution, where domestic goods are substituted
for imports. However, these protectionist measures had a negative effect in the long
term leading to inefficiencies and misallocation of resources. For that period during
the 1970s, however, economic growth spurted. The Philippines is rich in human and

Asia s real superpowers. However, the overwhelming power of corruption tainted its

Transcendentalism In Dead Poets Society, Directed By
Henry...
Transcendentalism was a movement that started in the 1830 40s which valued
concepts such as the ideas of carpe diem, non conformity, and finding one s own
beliefs. The idea of transcendentalism is present throughout the movie Dead Poets
Society, directed by Peter Weir, and in the essay Walden, written by Henry David
Thoreau. In Dead Poets Society, the idea of transcendentalismis demonstrated through
a group of teenage boys going to an all boys school, being taught by an eccentric
English teacher. The same concepts are also shown in the piece, Walden, this essay
is a series of journal entries written during a two year stay in the woods near a pond.
Both pieces of work exemplify the necessity of enjoying life and living it to the fullest
through the transcendentalist elements of carpe diem and non conformity.
In order to live life and enjoy it to the fullest, one must seize the day, more
commonly known as carpe diem. During the film Dead Poets Society, Mr. John
Keating, the English teacher at Welton Academy, teaches his students the idea of
carpe diem, meaning he wants them to go out and make their own choices and
make the most of what they ve been given. One student, Neil Perry, decides to
demonstrate this idea by trying out for a local play. He knows that his parent will not
approve but despite that, he tries out anyway because it is something that he wants to
do. Towards the beginning of the movie, Neil listens to his father when he is told that
he must quit being
The Marriage Of Figaro Analysis
The Marriage of Figaro During the first eighteen centuries AD the freedom of
speech was under brutal attack. Everywhere, in the world there was political
instability. Different part of the world was rocked by tyranny. In this time, to
restore parity people had fought hard. One of the spotlight was France. Although,
the Roman Empire had split long time ago, the monarchical division of the iron
empire spread across the side of Europe. The revolution had to be choreographed
appropriately and carefully, to counter this growing European tyranny and
aristocracy. An art was used as a mode of communicating revolutionary ideas by
artists. Using an art, a wave of revolution was established in France which turn out
to be a fruit for the people of France. However, the force emerging from that piece of
art was so high that no political opposition could managed to encounter, though they
had banned the Marriage of Figaro. Against, the will of the people the government

their survival and continued service. All most of all ways were using to stop the
spread of a specific piece of art across all possible media. The marriage of Figaro, a

Cunard Line Ltd. is a cruise line that represents luxury and class providing four to
five star cruise ship options. Their overall target market is mature adults with mid to
very high income levels. A lot of the marketingefforts put forth by Cunard were

This method can be used for customers of the four or five star ships. This loyalty
program would provide occasional direct offers to customers who already have
experience with Cunard and therefore will not view the deals as a lowering of
standards. An example of a deal that can be provided is a selling package that is
good for a year or two. This package would outline a discounted price for a set
amount of people to travel on a certain cruise ship. That way, there is enough time
for a customer to realistically plan out a trip while providing an incentive for them
and encourage more action as opposed to a regular priced ad.
Lastly, an alternative that can be taken is to build relationships with various large
companies with employees who make an income in the target range and make offers
to company executives. This method would not downplay the company image
because Cunard would be communicating directly with high income executives and
furthermore will not be making any public sales or advertisements. This method
would create new potential customers who are directly in the target market of choice
using the method of relationship building. This may also result in additional
customer retention. This method can be used for both the four and five star ships. In
order to attract the target market of the five star ships, Cunard can make an
arrangement with a company to offer a deal with their luxury ships as part of a
retirement plan.

Commedia dell arte is a performance style that originated in Italy emphasizing
pantomime, improvisation, and ensemble acting, using over the top movements to
accentuate emotions on a bare stage. Although shows presented by commedia dell
arte troupes were improvisations they were heavily influenced using an array of
stock situations along with very well developed masks (characters). Commedia dell
arte masks have molded the creation of characters from William Shakespeare s

The use of masks was of a great significance to the early performers. (Marczak, 7)
Early in the life of commedia dell arte it quickly became normal to call the
character the Mask . Performers would be the Mask of Il Capitano, or the Mask of
Pantalone. This notion of being the mask can get confusing as not all commedia
dell arte characters wear masks that convey who they are. Lovers are the
Commedia stock characters that do not wear masks (Sullivan 14). In this case the
Masks are often referred to as stereotypes. This wouldn t be very accurate.
Stereotypical characters are very broad two dimensional characters that are based
on a class of persons that have been stuck with prejudices and generalizations.
Although old men are salacious and money grubbing that isn t all the Mask of
Pantalone must be this way. If done right he is so much more than that, but that is
left to the performer that takes on the Mask to develop with their own flair. Often
we find Il Capitano playing the false romantic lead. Since he is part of the Vecchi
(old people) one of his common functions is to interfere with the innamorati or
young lovers. He is often hired by the father, Pantalone, to protect his daughter. Upon
which Il Capitano often falls head over heels in love with her, creating opportunities

Intro. To Poetry
Peer Review Paper #1 The Tally Stick
In the poem The Tally Stick , Jarold Ramsey uses a stick to symbolize the relationship
between two people. Carved notches, arrowheads, and other symbols along the grain
of the stick each have their own special meaning and represent certain events that
occurred within these people s lives together. Though over the time, the stick becomes
whittled down and weakened; those carvings are a testament to the strength and
endurance of their relationship. Stanza two of the poem takes time to reveal what
each individual notch or marking on the tally stick represents in their actual lives.

The author then says that the lengthening runes of our lives run through it all (19).
Runes being something written in characters, the characters used to describe the
personal events within the relationship surpasses the historical events that occurred.
At the end of the poem, the final product of the tally stick is described. It had been
carved all the way from end to end with meaningful events and occurrences that
helped to shape an entire relationship. It is conveyed as being delicate as scrimshaw
(21), scrimshaw being the word for patterns and designs engraved on fragile
materials such as whale bone. The tally stick is now so lessened, that it would not be
able to bear you up (21) or support you were you to lean on it. Though positive
experiences were revealed in the beginning of the poem, such as the children and the
wedding, the author also makes it a point to say that there were also regrets
throughout the time he spent with his partner. The wood was polished...hand over
hand with the regret, meaning their hands ran over the wood so often thinking of
mistakes that were made that it was smoothed down. The line and in one another s
blameless eyes go blind (27) shows that throughout time, and throughout all the events
that happened, the two individuals do not hold anything against one another and one
person is not more responsible for anything that happened than the other. The Tally
Stick describes all of the events that
Keith Jarrett s Personality, Philosophy, And Music

musical style. The width of Jarretts musical ability, crossing all genres of music,
including, but not limited to: jazz, classical, and world music, is unmatched by most.
But, for some reason his name, or playing is very rarely mentioned outside of the jazz
idiom. Keith Jarretts profound and philosophical explanations for his music give us a
rare example of an immensely talented musician, who is unafraid to contend with the
public eye. Keith Jarrett was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on the 8th of May,

because the public school wouldn t treat him with enough attention. So, they
enrolled him in private school where his IQ was tested. It was found to be at a
genius level and the six year old boy was then enrolled in third grade instead of
first, where his age would have normally placed him. Keith Jarrett began to give
public performances at a very young age. The famous bandleader, Paul Whiteman,
had a talent searching program on television and when Keith was only five years
old he was taken to Philadelphia to appear on Whiteman s show. Keith was given
an award for his performance on this TV program. When Jarrett was fifteen years
old, the piano lessons stopped. This was due to his parents divorce the year before.
Now that Jarrett wasn t spending hours a day working on classical repertoire he

SCRUTINY OF CAUSATION AND REMOTENESS OF DAMAGES
To avoid undue hardship to the defaulting party a line must be drawn separating
damages resulting from his breach for which he should be liable and damages
which, although in the broad sense of the word are as a result of his breach, are so
remote to extent that he should not be liable for them. This line is drawn when
separating General (intrinsic) damages from Special (extrinsic) damages.
The courts insist that the damages should be direct rather than indirect. Direct
damages are also known as general or intrinsic damages. They flow naturally and
generally from the kind of breach of contract in question.
Indirect damages are special or extrinsic damages, which are only recovered in special
circumstances attending the conclusion of the contract.
In Zimbabwe there is only one possible test that could be applied to decide whether
special or extrinsic damages can be recovered for breach of contract. This test is
the contemplation principle. The test applied under this principle is to check
whether the contracting parties actually or presumptively foresaw that the breach
of contract in question would result in the type of loss being sued for. Case in
point is that of Collective Self Finance Scheme (CFC) v Asharia (A) year 200 in
which CFC contracted to buy a property from the respondent and paid a deposit. CFC

Poets of the Tang Dynasty Essay
Throughout human history, our beliefs have influenced our actions. This is why we
have studies like the humanities. During the Tang Dynasty, different religions
developing during the time had enormous influence on what was being produced
during the era. When it comes to literature, poets like Wang Wei, Li Bai, Du Fu, and
Bo Juyi expressed their religions through their poetry during the Tang era. While it
was not always directly mentioned in their poetry, there are connections between the
Tang Dynastypoets works and their respective religions. Wang Wei (699 761CE),

introduced to the Tang Dynasty was by means of a legendary monk: Xuanzang. He
traveled to India, while the city of Chang an suffered from chaos, to study the
original Buddhist scripts and later returned to China to translate all of them and
interpret the ideas for the people through his Weishi School (Wen, 77). The concept
of emptiness is very prominent in Buddhism emptiness is neither reality nor total
nothingness. Thus, being and nothingness only differ in name; the ontological
statuses of both are emptiness (76). In Wei s poem, Hermitage at Chung nan

Abstract Adherence to medical advice is poor in chronic illness. Depression is a

The odds of having good health outcomes are 2.88 % higher when patients are
adherent ( DiMatteo, Haskard Zolnierek Martin, 2012, p. 75). Nonadherence
occurs for many reasons and may or may not be intentional. Nonadherence is
defined as the failure to follow prescribed medical advice. Examples of actions
considered to be medical advice are: to take medication as prescribed, make
behavioral changes such as diet and exercise, keep appointments, and have
screenings/testing done. Nonadherence, also called noncompliance also causes
frustration of providers and patients, and wastes resources. Rates of nonadherence
can be as high as 70% with complex regimens (Martin, Williams DiMatteo, 2005).
Factors in compliance with medical advice include: severity of disease, complexity
of regimen, patient knowledge and beliefs, costs incurred by the patient, resource
availability, availability of social support, psychological problems, and rapport and
communication with healthcare providers. Nonadherence rates are 27% higher for
patients with depression. (Martin, et al.). The prevalence of depressive disorders in
chronic medical illness is 1.5 to 4 times higher than the general population (DiMatteo,
2012). Depression is one of the strongest predictors of patient nonadherence
(DiMatteo 2000, Martin). Depressed patients experience feelings of hopelessness,
worthlessness, loss of energy, loss of interest and enjoyment, weight changes, sleep

While Harding s writing style may appear unprofessional, once you actually read
through the article, her style of writing is actually very appealing. She connects
with a reader in a way that makes the article relatable and keeps the reader

the thought that online websites can be used as a scapegoat for bullying, Harding
is outraged, declaring that this erases the underlying problem, which is kids
treating each other like crap (Harding). She continues to write that online or off a
bully is a bully and they will continue to harass their peers, whether it s online or
physical. Kids and teenagers have always been picked on; the introduction of social
networking is just a new place to bully someone.
Because Harding is extremely opinionated and critical, she fully addresses the
opposing side of the argument. Harding repeatedly stresses that social networking
is not the CAUSE of cyber bullying but rather a simple medium for the horrible
bullies of the world. So, yes, it does play a role in cyberbullying, but not to the
extent that Foxman and Silverman say it does. All this she does with the intricate
use of scenarios, real life instances, and her own opinion, convincing the reader of
her argument. While she may be a blogger, Harding uses this to her advantage,
proving to be a credible author.

The Role Of Music In Ancient Civilizations
Regardless of where they are located, almost all ancient civilizations share basic
features. For example, most civilizations develop things such as a class system, a
common religion, or a system of writing. Another mark of a successful civilization is
the evolution of music. Since music is not essential to survival, its development is
usually within a large established society. The purpose of musicvaries from
civilization to civilization, era to era. In some cultures, music accompanied religious
rituals, as one sees in Ancient Egyptand Mesopotamia. In others, such as Ancient
Greece, music was a part of education and entertainment. Music also played a very
important role in keeping legends and records of history alive through oral tradition.
The way it was produced ranged from monophonic vocalizations in its earliest history
to complex instruments and systems later in time. Any way it was produced, the role
music played was one of the most important in ancient societies.
The earliest sign of music was discovered in architectural sites of Mesopotamia. Some
of the main evidence that music was an important part of Ancient Mesopotamian
society was writing about it found on ancient stone tablets. So far, ten tablets with
writings concerning musical scales have been found in sites around Ur and other
ancient cities such as Nippur. They contain information about the musical scales used
in Ancient Mesopotamian music, revealing that there were seven different and
interrelated scales

The Fox ( Inaudible Noises )
The Fox
(inaudible noises) .... what does that mean? I said.
It s a code, use it where ever it should be used, said a mysterious man.
So, you re not going to tell me where? I Asked
You ll know when the time is right, said the mysterious man
Like that helps, I said sarcastically.
I wake up, while it s still the middle of the night, the fountain is still flowing, a few
lights are still on and all the guards have gone to bed, I jump out the window because
something was bothering me. The crisp night air felt ominous, but relaxing, the sky

Are you deaf or something? The fountain s machine is missing! Rita said angry tone
Maybe I am, I said jokingly.

made me look like I just told a ridiculous story (which I kinda did).
Yuri, foxes don t have nine tails, she said with a serious face.
Well then I m going to... I was cut off mid sentence by my favorite duo.
Yuri Lowell! said a guard.
Oh look Tweedle A and Tweedle B, I said.
Just what is a Tweedle anyway? asked Tweedle B.
Yuri Lowell, you re under arrest for both jailbreak and throwing an imperial guard

Oh I remember that, was that you Tweedle B? I asked
Yes, I was in bed for 4 days with a
The Freudian Slip Theory
Introduction
Freudian slip theory was originally created by Sigmund Freud. He was an Austrian
neurologist and was better known as the founder of psychoanalysis (1856 1939).
Psychoanalysis can be defined as a set of psychological theories which includes the
Freudian slip theory. He believed that everyone possess an unconscious mind,
feelings, desires and memories in their lifetime. It is to be said that peoples will bring
their unconscious content on their mind to their conscious awareness and people will
be able to experience catharsis and gain insight into their current state of mind.
(Cherry, What is Psychoanalysis?, 2016)
Freud s theory of slips of the tongue and pen Sigmund Freud theory is formed based
on peoples brings the unconscious thoughts to conscious self. Freudian slip is the
Hint of the Unconscious. (Cherry, What is a Freudian Slip?, 2015) A Freudian
slip also known as a parapraxis, is an error of speech and memory or physical

The words that involve in the passage are potted and private . Both words are
adjectives and they starts with the letter p . Freud recognized this and maintained
that most errors happened when there are several causes to create the error. He
named it over determination of an error. It resembles a modern idea about how
memory retrieval takes place through an intersecting association process. When
interpreting the word potted lies at the intersection of several associations: it starts
with the letter p , it has two syllables, it fits into the sentence and it has to do with
the roommate problem. So the word potted was used and applied it on my roommate

  • 2. Descriptive Essay On Getting A Dog There s one dream that all children have in common, getting a dog. I was once one of those children. Fourth grade me, wanted...needed to have a dog. I would do or say anything to make my parents give in to my obsession. Unfortunately, I was the second youngest out of five kids and my parents had grown a strong backbone through experience with the others. But I knew, with the help of my siblings and my adorable ten year old charm, I would have a fair chance of winning this battle. I knew this because at the end of the day, every parentwants to see their child happy, even if that means getting a dog. The first step to getting a dog, or getting anything I wanted, was to convince my dad. I ve always been my dad s little girl , and I knew his soft spots. I remember little ten year old me walking up to my dad s office and knocking on the door. Peaking my head in, my dad put his finger to his mouth telling me to be quiet, then ushered me to walk in. I knew he was on a work call but I sat on his lap anyway. This was my first move. The second was waiting until he hung up on the work call, then casually asking him about his day. Once I knew he was softened up, I would ask him about the dog. Hey Dad... I hesitated Uh oh, what do you want? He could tell by the tone in my voice. Why don t we have a dog? I could hear him trying to stifle a laugh when he realized I was serious. Because your mother and I don t have time to take care of a dog. Here s my opportunity, What if I
  • 3. Problems Of Using Big Data Help Us Understand What... What are the problems in using big data to help us understand what customers want? Introduction Big data, defined as a popular term used to describe the exponential growth and availability of data (What is Big Data? , n. d. ), has attracted considerable interest in many fields as it promises to offer a level of analytic detail that has not been reached so far. Whilst it is often promoted as the solution to many marketing problems, it has some significant disadvantages. Cost, personnel, problems relating to the interpretation of the data and difficulties deciding how to apply the new knowledge to existing products and product design are all important problems. Situation There is a line chart above from Google Trends which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Velocity. Massive data should be dealt with in time otherwise the quality of data will lose. Probably, Big Data can be the future of marketing. However, there are some problems in using Big Data because of these characteristics. If we don t know how to address problems, the investment will be wasted but enterprises still search around in the haystack for the needle. Therefore, I will illustrate the problems and find out some solutions for Big Data. Problems Firstly, the main problem is deciding which data should be selected. The data, explaining customers desire and need, is important to be collected while most of the businesses are confusing what data they should concentrate on. A recent Gartner report (2014) stresses that 64% of firms raced to plan or launch a Big Data project, though they didn t have enough professional knowledge yet. To understand what customers need through Big Data possibly turns into the core of companies target. The large data volumes and different varieties of data lead to complexity. Secondly, the result predicted by Big Data probably isn t true at last. (MARCUS, DAVIS. 2014).This phenomenon doesn t happen by accident in many companies. Take Google Flu Trends as an example, they predicted that the Disease Control and Protection Center wasn t able to control the flu spread quickly and effectively as time went on. Later, this conclusion was proved wrong. Hence, it means that future prediction contains inconsistencies

Though this supervolcano has not erupted recently it does have continue to have volcanic activities. The previous eruption remains have been found outside of the Yellowstone National Park that link to the Yellowstone Caldera. Ben Ellis and Mark Darren, authors of the article Super eruptions and silicic volcanism from the Yellowstone volcanic field, describes current volcanic activities of this area and how it has expanded and transition from its previous super eruptions to what has happen now, and what changes could another volcanic reaction cause for this area. Abraham Cowley clearly illustrates this in poem Drinking where he tries to justify drinking is natural. Which is true natureis constantly drinking water to survive and flourish whether it s from living organisms or the cycles involving water. This logic is flawed because the author is using the term drinking loosely as he uses alcohol whereas nature uses mainly water. Based on the small group that I joined in communication class, I will talk about what is working well and what is getting in the way in our group. Then I will discuss about what I can do to improve the group and the things about group project if there is a chance for a start over again. At last, I am also going to talk about what I think that I learned is important lesson in this semester. First of all, the things that were working well is about our different roles. We have five people in our group and two girls with three boys. For example, three boys are the Maintenance roles to help the group run smoothly (99). To be more specific, they are always talking to each other to check when we have any group works due. They also mentioned to us if there was any individual homework due. These are the roles for keeping the group on track. On the other hand, two girls were more like task roles and were to help get the job done (98). We are always divided works for our group members to finish our group projects. We also will contact every group members before our group meetings to make sure they finish their own works. Therefore, having different roles is the thing that we are working well. Then what is getting in the way is about our group meeting is on time now. When we just met each other first time, we did not know each other very well. We are kind of unconcern so most of us late for the first group meeting. However, when we talked to each other more in the first group

I have always believed in Christian beliefs such as God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, as well as having read Biblestories since childhood and participating in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, retreats, and many other things. I have many essential memories of being in church, from asking the pastor to allow me to finish the bread and grape juice from Communion at the end of every Eucharist Sunday service (she always obliged) to being certified as a Youth Lay Servant and giving a few sermons. My faith has been a big part of my life for all nineteen years of it, and I try to live my life in a way I believe God wants me to. However, unlike many Christians who seem to always have criticism towards every little transgression, I do not tell people things such as that they will go to hell unless they conform to the way I believe they should act, based upon what others say is written in the Bible. From my understanding of God, He would much rather prefer me to love them despite their sins, as that is what Jesus did during His time on Earth, as well as what He does at all times. I have seen many people who will not or perhaps even cannot listen to what I say about my religion, because some others had hurt them deeply in the name of God. The God I believe in would never want

That way, there is enough time for a customer to realistically plan out a trip while providing an incentive for them and encourage more action as opposed to a regular priced ad. Lastly, an alternative that can be taken is to build relationships with various large companies with employees who make an income in the target range and make offers to company executives. This method would not downplay the company image because Cunard would be communicating directly with high income executives and furthermore will not be making any public sales or advertisements. This method would create new potential customers who are directly in the target market of choice using the method of relationship building. This may also result in additional customer retention. This method can be used for both the four and five star ships. In order to attract the target market of the five star ships, Cunard can make an arrangement with a company to offer a deal with their luxury ships as part of a retirement plan.

Commedia dell arte is a performance style that originated in Italy emphasizing pantomime, improvisation, and ensemble acting, using over the top movements to accentuate emotions on a bare stage. Commedia dell arte masks have molded the creation of characters from William Shakespeare s Merchant of Venice to Matt Groening s The Simpsons . Keeping society entertained at every age. (Marczak, 7) Early in the life of commedia dell arte it quickly became normal to call the character the Mask . Performers would be the Mask of Il Capitano, or the Mask of Pantalone. This notion of being the mask can get confusing as not all commedia dell arte characters wear masks that convey who they are. Lovers are the Commedia stock characters that do not wear masks (Sullivan 14). In this case the Masks are often referred to as stereotypes. This wouldn t be very accurate. Stereotypical characters are very broad two dimensional characters that are based on a class of persons that have been stuck with prejudices and generalizations. Although old men are salacious and money grubbing that isn t all the Mask of Pantalone must be this way. If done right he is so much more than that, but that is left to the performer that takes on the Mask to develop with their own flair. Often we find Il Capitano playing the false romantic lead. Since he is part of the Vecchi (old people) one of his common functions is to interfere with the innamorati or young lovers. He is often hired by the father, Pantalone, to protect his daughter. Though over the time, the stick becomes whittled down and weakened; those carvings are a testament to the strength and endurance of their relationship. Runes being something written in characters, the characters used to describe the personal events within the relationship surpasses the historical events that occurred. At the end of the poem, the final product of the tally stick is described. It had been carved all the way from end to end with meaningful events and occurrences that helped to shape an entire relationship. It is conveyed as being delicate as scrimshaw (21), scrimshaw being the word for patterns and designs engraved on fragile materials such as whale bone. The tally stick is now so lessened, that it would not be able to bear you up (21) or support you were you to lean on it. Though positive experiences were revealed in the beginning of the poem, such as the children and the wedding, the author also makes it a point to say that there were also regrets throughout the time he spent with his partner. The wood was polished...hand over hand with the regret, meaning their hands ran over the wood so often thinking of mistakes that were made that it was smoothed down. The line and in one another s blameless eyes go blind (27) shows that throughout time, and throughout all the events that happened, the two individuals do not hold anything against one another and one person is not more responsible for anything that happened than the other. The Tally Stick describes all of the events that

The concept of emptiness is very prominent in Buddhism emptiness is neither reality nor total nothingness. Thus, being and nothingness only differ in name; the ontological statuses of both are emptiness (76). In Wei s poem, Hermitage at Chung nan Mountain he writes: ...and go there on a whim to wander alone. But even in all this splendor, things remain empty. Nonadherence occurs for many reasons and may or may not be intentional. Nonadherence is defined as the failure to follow prescribed medical advice. Examples of actions considered to be medical advice are: to take medication as prescribed, make behavioral changes such as diet and exercise, keep appointments, and have screenings/testing done. Nonadherence, also called noncompliance also causes frustration of providers and patients, and wastes resources. Rates of nonadherence can be as high as 70% with complex regimens (Martin, Williams DiMatteo, 2005). She continues to write that online or off a bully is a bully and they will continue to harass their peers, whether it s online or physical. Kids and teenagers have always been picked on; the introduction of social networking is just a new place to bully someone. Because Harding is extremely opinionated and critical, she fully addresses the opposing side of the argument.
