How will you connect with students?
Connect though community building activities
Use music at the beginning of class to energize and evoke emotion
Take picture of your students to help you learn their names
Know their names
Develop traditions and/or routines in the classroom
Tell them about yourself/share appropriate personal information
Be sensitive with sarcasm (only works once relationships have
been established); when in doubt don’t use it
Be accommodating to different learning styles
Show how much you care not just how much you know
In addition to posting on the board, how will you ensure that students
understand the daily learning objective?
Reinforce the Daily Learning Objective (DLO); being and end each
class with DLO
Use an EXIT ticket for each class to allow students to tell you what they
learned today
Informal assessments
Checking for understanding throughout the lesson
Make connections to the DLO when teaching the lesson
How will you know when students are engaged in learning?
Look for active listening
Students are staying on task
Listen for a low hum in the classroom versus eruptions
Scaffold the content
They are invested: they know expectations; know grades and outcome
