Illegal Gambling
The Case Against Gambling Gambling is impoverishing America.
It is taking the money needed to feed and clothe children.
It is destroying the moral fabric of our nation.
It is increasing the wealth of the crime syndicates.
Since part of the money is being used to buy off politicians, it is corrupting our political system on all
levels,
It is causing otherwise good citizens to enter crime, in order to pay off gambling debts.
It is causing an increase in suicides.
Because of the poverty and crime it brings, it is not decreasing but increasing the cost of running state
governments, Here are facts you should know: The gambling craze has swept the country with the
avariciousness of a prairie fire . . The flames are out of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What about numbers games? In a three number game, the odds of your number coming up are 1 in
1,000. In a six number game, it is 1 in 10 million. What about Super 7, which is seven numbers in a
row? It is 1 in 100 million.
Then there are the race tracks. They are now legal in over four fifths of all the states in America. The
owners of the track take 18 to 21 percent of money wagered. The bettor has a likelihood of winning
only a 0.41 to 0.44 probability of winning. That is about one half of one percent! But, it is a well
known fact that when a man wins at gambling, he is very likely to stay in for another game and then
lose his winnings! It is no wonder that it is called gambling fever. It is almost an insanity which grips a
person.
What about slot machines? They help Los Vegas take in a yearly income of $3 billion from gambling.
The typical slot machine has a payoff of $5,888 for every $8,000 invested over a period of time. Lose,
lose, lose; that is what gambling is. That is the basis of its excitement. Is it exciting to lose your
money? That is what gambling is all about.
Stay home and you lose no money, but that is not thought to be as exciting by some people.
Bingo is another great loser, but, each year in America, it takes in $4.2 billion. That is money taken
from the pockets of the common people.
And then there is the state lottery. The New Yorker magazine estimated that the chances of winning an
average lottery is about 12 million to 1. Some things are

Analysis Of How To Keep Jealousy And Envy From Ruining...
In modern society, one of the major determinants of our sense of wellbeing, in my opinion, is
comparing ourselves to others. While comparison motivates us to learn good qualities, pursue a
brighter future and own a grateful hearts, it also has an adverse effect when we compare our true inner
selves to the pictures of perfect life created by others on social media. To begin with, Amanda Chan s
article How To Keep Jealousy And Envy From Ruining Your Life serves as a foundation which
introduces both positive and negative sides of comparison. On the one hand, comparison makes us
more likely to be occupied by emotions of jealous and envy, which arouses feelings of inferiority and
spite, and thus reduces our happiness. For instance, envy has an

The One Minute Manager By Kenneth Blanchard And Spencer...
In the book The One Minute Manager, Kenneth Blanchard and Spencer Johnson introduce the readers
an innovative idea of one minute management through an allegory of an anonymous man in search for
an effective manager for his management secrets (Blanchard Johnson 26). Throughout the anonymous
man s journey, he learns many lessons, which Blanchard and Johnson have summarized into the
following three essential secrets . First, Blanchard and Johnson advocate One Minute Goal Setting is
the first [secret] and the foundation for One Minute Management (27). One Minute Goal Setting is
simply:
1. Agree on your goals.
2. See what good behavior looks like.
3. Write out each of your goals on a single sheet of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What s more, the authors use a problem that an employee of the company Trenell has, as an example,
to illustrate how such goal setting method works in practice. After Trenell clearly identifies the
discrepancy between the actual and desired state and the causes, he is able to find a suitable solution to
the problem, making him arriving at his desired state. After introducing the One Minute Goal Setting
as the fundamental of effective management, the authors also demonstrate the way of doing One
Minute Praising the second secret. One Minute Praising is simply:
1. Tell people up front that you are going to let them know how they are doing.
2. Praise people immediately.
3. Tell people what they did right be specific.
4. Tell people how good you feel about what they did right, and how it helps the organization and the
other people who work there.
5. Stop for a moment of silence to let them feel how good you feel.
6. Encourage them to do more of the same.
7. Shake hands or touch people in a way that makes it clear that you support their success in the
organization (44) While presenting the elements in the On Minute Praising, the authors also use a
practical detailed example to emphasize its benefit and importance on encouraging hard work and
good performance. Blanchard and Johnson believe that

By The Waters Of Babylon By John Benet Analysis
Rules are made to keep society in order and to preserve life. If rules are broken, consequences are
often paid by the ones who breaks them. In the short story By the Waters of Babylon by Stephen
Vincent Benet tells the story of John, a young boy who unintentionally breaks the rules during his
journey to a forbidden place. The message towards rules are to be respectful, responsible and
thoughtful because it avoids troubles. Being responsible is one of the keys to success when behaving
towards rules. Responsibility shows the understanding of the surroundings and independence. When
acting responsible towards rules, it draws people s confidence and faith. It is a rule to not go to the
forbidden place and John behaves responsible towards this

Analysis Of Rose-Johnny And Drinking Coffee Elsewhere
In the two stories Rose Johnny and Drinking Coffee Elsewhere examples of the use of stereotypes,
labels and/or prejudices upon people can be seen throughout these stories. The main characters in
these stories face labeling and stereotypes in seperate ways. In this essay, the causes and effects of
stereotypes, labels, and prejudices will be analyzed and explained by comparing each story s
underlying ideas, by understanding the environment the main characters are living in and also
understanding how stereotypes come to be in the first place.
In the story, Rose Johnny understanding the stereotypes and how the environment affects the
characters takes careful analysis. The main characters Georgeann and Rose Johnny are in a unique
situation where stereotypes are frowned upon and are accepted throughout the town. When Georgeann
says, Walnut Knobs was a small enough town that a person did not need to be told things directly. she
is referring to how the town, without a word, tries to keep the children away from Rose Johnny. This is
a clear example of the prejudice against people who are lesbian like Rose Johnny.
Furthermore, Georgeann meets Rose Johnny and is underwhelmed by the reality of who she really is.
She is faced with someone that seemed quite normal, the only thing that differs her from the other
women is her hair, according to Georgeann. She realized that Rose Johnny did not look like how
everyone described her to be, half man and half woman. but rather ordinary. When Georgean was sent
to the store to get chicken mash she saw the unseen side of Rose Johnny in which she felt no fear
towards. Although Georgeann sees Rose Johnny for the person she is, discrimination was still
demonstrated by the two men standing behind her as they told her to tell her father to never to send his
little girls instead to send his boys. This is another example of discrimination in a way that Georgeann
would not understand since she is still young.
The men stereotyped Rose Johnny for the way she is and created a bad image of her without them
knowing her actual personality. We can also take in for account the setting of the main characters, a
traditional small town where Rose Johnny has been stereotyped into something she

Lyndon B Johnson s Speech To Overcome Summary
Lyndon B. Johnson s We Shall Overcome
During the 1960 s, America was divided over the voting rights of African
Americans, who had won their freedom from slavery a century before but had not yet gained the right
to vote. This was a time of racial discrimination, as well as a time of political unrest. In his speech, We
Shall Overcome, which was delivered to Congress on March 16, 1965, Johnson broke many
boundaries that had previously been set by his predecessors. His use of pathos, ethos and logos
attempted to persuade the Congress to pass a bill that would start to push for equality for every citizen
of the United States and alert the nation of the unethical segregation.
Johnson s goal of passing the Voting Rights Act through his speech We Shall Overcome was
especially effective due to his use use of pathos. Johnson s specific audience to which he is speaking is
members of Congress; however, he also speaks to the American public attempting to connect and get
their support. In his words to Congress, he is asking not only for the support of Congress in passing
this act but also for the support of the American public. When he mentions to all in the Nation tonight
, this shows that he also wants the support of all Americans. He hopes to show that he is not just
concerned about the legislative aspect of this civil rights issue but that he is also concerned with the
ethical and moral issues of the situation showing that this issue is about more than just a law.

The Tragedy Of The Commons
The Tragedy of the Commons American Earth: Environmental Writing Since Thoreau is a diverse yet
interconnected collection of essays by renowned environmentalist authors who have been influential
in literature, religion, science, and politics. Each piece has a specific purpose and role that it plays in
conveying ideas and themes. Many authors share their personal opinions on issues such as the world s
declining forests, the extinction of species, such as birds in Gene Stratton Porter s The Last Passenger
Pigeon (192), and their intimate experiences with nature, such as Julia Butterfly Hill s The legacy of
Luna (907). However, the most influential essay in this book is The Tragedy of the Commons by
Garrett Hardin (438). A multitude of pieces in this book tie into the tragedy of the commons and
support its ideas in one way or another.
In his essay Hardin discusses how the rapid decline of the world s common places, such as natural
animal pastures, are the result of rapid, uncontrolled human population growth. Hardin suggests that
environmental problems such as deforestation, crowding out of native species, loss of resources,
pollution, poor job economy, etc., are the result of the loss of common spaces. He indicated that
common spaces used to be plentiful enough for every person to have an abundant share, but that was
when the human population was smaller than the current population of 7 billion people. Hardin s
powerful essay proposes many solutions and methods

Relationship Between The West And Iran
The relationship between the West and Iran has been notoriously rocky. Several main factors
accumulating at the beginning in the 20th century have led to a perfect storm of religion, imperialism
and radicalism that have come together to create the Islamic Republic of Iran that was built primarily
on anti Americanism. How did this happen and why is this republic so anti American? The Islamic
Republic is built upon a revolutionary type of anti Americanism that can be found among opposition
groups seeking to overthrow regimes closely identified with the United States; attacking such regimes
thus involves attacking the United States. Researcher and analyst, Ray Takeyh, a Senior Fellow for
Middle Eastern Studies on the Council on Foreign Relations, says Iran persistently puzzles Westerners
with its dualities, contradictions and paradoxes. He says the West constantly gets Iran wrong because
of its failure to understand Iran s factional politics and ideology. These dualities and contradictions,
for Takeyh, see Iran, in essence, as suffering from an identity crisis.
While the Persians continue to find themselves in the modern world, it is clear that Iran has been
shaped and manipulated by foreign regimes in the past that has left Iran encompassed in delusion,
paranoia and mistrust of the West. Adam Tarock, professor of Political Science, from the University of
Melbourne, elegantly noted the pattern of Iranian foreign policy showing the dualities and
inconsistencies of

Ben Her Movie
BEN HER REVIEW Ben Her is a film what is about forgiveness and hate. I will be reviewing the
length of the movie and how that effects the movie and second Ill review how Jesus was shown in the
movies. A brief overview of the movie is as follows. Messala and Judah (Ben Her) are brothers. But
when messala leaves to fight for Rome things change between them. The reason behind this is because
Rome and Jerusalem don t get along. After Messala returns, there is an accident and Judah takes
blame. With this, he goes on a long, awful adventure. But he eventually finds the Sheik and things
start to turn up. Lastly He then enters a chariot race that he will either win and stay alive, or die trying.
The length differences in the movies are one of the biggest reason on how they are different. In the
1959 film the boat scenes and when he meets a friend drag out the movie way longer than it needs to
be. There are also Long scenes with a lot of side stories ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1959 Jesus was more of a mysterious figure. They never showed his face and also don t he him
spreading the word of God. In 2016 Jesus s face is shown and we see him in a lot of scenes not only
helping people but we see him spreading the word of God. In the 1959 film we see Judah receive
water from Jesus and also him when he s about to preach on the hill. But in the 2016 film we see him
preaching, jumping in front of a person getting stones and we hear him talking, not only talking about
God while preaching to others but on the cross when he is about to die. Having these be different gave
the movie a completely different feel. I talked to people in the class and most agreed that in the 1959
movie when Jesus was hung on the cross they didn t get as emotional in watching it as in the 2016
movie. They felt like they connected to Jesus more in the 2016 because they understood and loved

Ficus Elastica Monologue
The morning smells like wood left out in the rain.
My Ficus awakes from the sun s scream. Watering is our daily ritual but it wasn t always this way.
When I first discovered my Ficus, I had no clue how to care for it. I researched specific care for a
Ficus and discovered many types of this plant. Eventually, I came across photos of Ficus elastica and
realized this is the type. Home Depot provided me with instructions but their advice was dead wrong.
My Ficus was dying fast. Thankfully, I studied the history of Ficus elastica I didn t realize how much
care is required. But this information saved my Ficus life. The care and time I put in my Ficus elastica

I watered and supplied adequate sunlight but this was not enough. Since then, I strayed from owning
plants. This one time, a gathering of purple, pink, and green plants lured me towards their direction.
They begged for my ownership for a place in my home. I was skeptic but decided to purchase a couple
of them. Two of them died in my hands. I swear I could feel their last breaths. The soil from their pots
crumbled between my fingers. Dandelions dismantled by the wind as fresh cut grass stuck to the
bottom of my sneakers.
This is my memory from age eight when I attended elementary school. I had little regard to plants and
flowers. At recess, green grass stains painted my knees. I would search for Lady Bugs and roll around
on the grass. In class, I received a green mark for good behavior. Green always meant good except for
the time I was attacked by a frog. My childhood friend and I played with her pet frog for hours. One
day, I tried to kiss the frog a reference to Prince Charming. My friend and I joked if I kiss the frog
would it indeed turn into a prince. We were wrong, dead wrong because the frog jumped on my face.
But my Ficus is green and good. My Ficus

immigration experience of the Germans and Irish shown through Ironweed, Maggie: A Girl of the
Streets, Hold Dear, As Always Jette, Immigrant Voices, and Second Fatherland displayed several
similarities and differences between each group s immigration experience. The Germans and Irish
similarly went through Americanization by living in communities made up of their own ethnic group.
Also, the role of women was similar in both communities; women took care of the children and
maintained the house. They both faced serious disease in both of their communities and were not
considered American until later on. However, there were many ways that the German

Sports Arbitrage Essay
Why is Sports Arbitrage not as profitable as Cryptocurrency Arbitrage Arbitrage is rooted deeply in
both economics and finance markets. It is the practice of leveraging on price differences existing in
different markets to harness profit. Sports bettors rely on arbing to make a profit regardless of the
outcome of anticipated events. No form of handicapping, all that is required is shopping and simple
maths. Learning from Wall Street traders who seek ideal opportunities and chances, sports arbitrators
or bettors search for model wagers. The chances must come with a non existing risk and a guaranteed
profit. But this is not done in the traditional financial markets; the searchlight is on sports betting

Fashion s Influence On Fashion
When one thinks of a genre they think of a book or a type of music. Genre can be thought of as a
category of art. Fashion is a form of art, artists everyday are creating works that they feel people will
wear and like. Fashion is a huge industry with thousands of designers that makes billions of dollars
per year. Whether people realize it or not, every single person has a sense of style and has their own
taste in clothing. With fashion there are different genres ranging from chic to bohemian to sporty.
Along with different genres of fashion, there are different genres of brands. With these two genres
combined, an examination of the correlation of the brands with the style of fashion will be examined.
The first genre of fashion we are going to examine is a style called chic . Chic is a French word that
means classy. When the word chic crosses my mind, I picture a girl standing in the streets of New
York City dressed up from head to toe looking her finest. Most chic clothes cover the body of the
person wearing them and makes them look a bit classier than others. BB Dakota is a brand that is
considered chic, it is on the lower of the scale of prices of clothes. Most of their clothes have been
seen in top boutiques and in department stores. Celebrities such as Taylor Swift and others have been
seen wearing this brand. It was first founded 30 years ago in Southern California by a French designer.

The Sun: Crash Course Astronomy #10 first lab link
1. Explain what the sun is and how it differs from other stars we see in the sky.
The sun is a star that is made up of hydrogen gas. The sun is unlike other stars that we see in the sky
because the sun delivers energy and radiation that allows to living things to exist. Also, the sun is
much closer than the other stars in the sky.
2. Discuss how we are able to feel the sun s heat and see its brightness?
The sun is a big, hot ball of hydrogen gas which enables us to feel the sun s heat and see its brightness.
Every second of every day, the sun transforms over 700 million tons of hydrogen into over 600
million tons of helium. The sun produces so much energy that we can see the sun s brightness and feel
its heat. Hydrogen fusion takes place in the Sun s core and the gas is heated by the energy that is
discharged above the core. Ultimately the gas becomes less dense and the heat from below turns the

Describe sunspots and how they impact the overall energy of the Sun.
Sunspots are a cool spot of plasma and it is capable of increasing the energy that the sun releases
making it brighter.
4. Discuss the difference between solar flares and CME s.
The foremost differentiation between solar flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs) is the scale on
which they transpire. Solar flares are rather little and local, occuring in the low solar atmosphere, near
sunspots, where magnetic field lines are concentrated. CMEs on the other hand are huge. They can
even be bigger than the sun itself!
5. What happened in 2012 and how does it illustrate the importance of understanding the sun and how
it works?
In 2012 a solar storm nearly hit us and if it had hit us we probably wouldn t be here. However, it
completely missed us. Therefore, it is very important for us to understand the sun because it can put
our society to its knees and cripple us for a very long

What Does It Mean To Say That Mankind Is Naturally Evil
I feel that man is naturally good because all they want is to protect themselves, their families, and to
feed their families. Also man started out at nothing so greed came into play when we became the
countries we are today. Every country has a ruler who is most likely greedy, but when we see people
who are greedy we try to make ourselves better than that pointing it out and saying what they are but
everyone is bad that in one way because the perfect human doesn t exist. I don t think mankind is truly
evil because no one is born wanting to just be evil. People who are Evil, or who we think is evil are
mostly steered in the wrong direction by people who never really noticed they were being mean to or

The Importance Of Campaigning In The United States
To win a presidential election, it is a necessity to be able to afford the cost of campaigning. The start
up cost is $10 million just for the headquarter. These candidates will need to spend another $4 to $15
million to stay in the game. The fight to remain as a candidate is vicious as there will only be a couple
of candidates being chosen for the final round. To be in the final round, they have to gain their
popularity, advertise about themselves in order to win. The downside to the hefty price of
campaigning is that only the wealthy can win. The less wealthy ones are those whom are less funded
and are not in the two major political parties in the US. Hence the majority in the US might not be
very well represented due to social inequality.

Preventing Musculoskeletal Disorders In The Workplace
The Seriousness of MSD Occupational health hazards are conditions in a workplace environment that
pose a threat to the physical or mental health of an employee working there. Unfortunately,
occupational health hazards are very common, however, providentially; many organizations have been
established in order to prevent these tragedies from occurring. One of these great organizations is the
Worker s Health and Safety Centre; Ontario s designated health and safety training center. In recent
times, WHSC has taken specific initiative on taking action to prevent the occupation ergonomic

employees to suffer from uncomfortable pains to developing critical disabilities, it is extremely
important for employers to ensure that they eliminate any hazards in the working environments, and

Suffering With Food Poisoning Caused By Salmonella Sp Essay
Scenario C
The patient in this scenario C was suffering with food poisoning caused by Salmonella sp.
Non typhoid Salmonella sp. causes inflammation of the digestive tract (enterocolitis). Common
symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, myalgia and watery non bloody diarrhoea usually appear
between 8 and 72 h after the ingestion of a pathogen (D Aoust, 1994). Human salmonellosis is self
limiting infection, nevertheless patients are advised to replace fluid and electrolytes (D Aoust, 1994).
Sometimes the progression of enterocolitis into local infections via blood stream can occur (D Aoust,
1994; D Aoust, 1991).
The infection process is very complex due to numerous virulent factors of the pathogen. In order to
enter the small intestine a bacterium must first overcome the antimicrobial activity of saliva enzyme,
lactoperoxidase and the low pH of digestive fluid in the (D Aoust, 1991). Cytotoxin present on the
bacterial cell wall disturb membrane integrity of the host cells which contribute to bacterium
attachment and to cell invasion (D Aoust, 1991). Salmonella attaches itself to the intestinal epithelial
cells by fimbriae. Pathogens enter epithelial cells by membrane bound vesicle, this process is known
as bacteria mediated endocytosis (D Aoust, 1991). Bacterium then divide and invade mucosa layer.
Diarrheagenic enterotoxin is released in the intestinal lumen and into the lumen of epithelial cells.
Effect of enterotoxin and local inflammation cause water and

Analysis Of The Poem Harlem
James Mercer Langston Hughes was an American poet; a Joplin, Missouri native and an active,
versatile writer, earning acclaim as a poet, novelist, playwright and columnist. He was one of the first
poets to explore an innovative sing songy, stylized delivery called jazz poetry.
As an African American, his point of view, collectively synergized with this then new literary art,
catapulted his writings between the 1930s 1960s. He is often credited as the leader of the Harlem
Renaissance, and famously wrote about the period that the negro was in vogue. (Langston).
Throughout his body of work, Hughes spoke eloquently to the full spectrum of dreams both their
inspirational power and their heavy burden, if not fully realized. His famed ... Show more content on

Does it dry up / like a raisin the sun?
Hughes later deduces Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. There, with its indication of weight, the
reader draws comparison to a dream being a burden an unbearable, unattainable measuring stick in the
speaker s life, or in this piece s case, America s life.
Hughes, now older, having seen more of the world is grappling with the injustices of equality and
equity. Can an African American attain his/her dream without it wilting under the prejudices of an
unfair America? He saw the dreams of many residents of Harlem, New York disintegrate in the wake
of World War II. Some read this poem as a warning, believing that the speaker argues that deferred
dreams will lead to social unrest. Notably, Lorraine Hansberry chose a line from this poem as the title
of her famous play, A Raisin in the Sun, which explores the idea of delayed dreams in the world of a
black family living in the South Side of Chicago during the 1950s. Both the play and Hughes s poem
champion the power of pursuing dreams, and both comment on the state of civil rights in America.

Harry In Micheal Crichton s Sphere
In the novel quot;Sphere by Micheal Crichton, it entails of a psychatrist sent to the underwater site of

later inspect the ship more they see that it contains a sphere like object that has the power to manifest
the thoughts (or in the crew apos;s case nightmares) of whoever interacted and went inside of it.
Although this novel is, of course, a science fiction, it does possess some biological facts. Small details
such as the stings of jellyfish venomous stings killing their crew member, a cold water rush having the
ability to kill Norman, a series of glasses breaking around Norman once the oxygen was removed

brought into the movie. In the novel the ship was attacked multiple times by a squid were in the movie

allowed to figure the code out but in the movie Harry solved the code all by himself. Even the
characters main story points were changed like how Beth was left conscious and only anxious when
she set the bomb but in the novel she was unconcious not allowing them to change the time setting.
But even though they had many differences they kept some parts similar like they both included the
code, destruction of habitats, and forgetting completely about the bomb.
This novel gave inspiration for some technology that can be made in the future such a deep

Bay Of Pigs Was A Failure
The boat hit an unexpected coral reef, making the men have to swim to shore. Once there, they were
met with a hail of gunfire. It was this bad luck that was only the beginning of a failed operation called
the Bay of Pigs. This was an intense short lived, and poorly planned conflict. People call this CIA s
perfect failure, (History.com.).
This conflict had the involvement of JFK(president at the time), Dwight D Eisenhower (president
when it started), CIA (Central Intelligence Agency), and a Cuban dictator named Fidel Castro. In the
year 1961, Castro and his band overthrew the president and assumed power over Cuba.Over the
following months, Castro cut off ties with the U.S., trained his own guerilla army, and started training

Would it be satisfying to compete with someone in use of steroids, and who cheated the system and

Natural Hair Vs Relaxed Hair
Relaxed Hair vs. Natural Hair
Natural hair is stealing the show and taking over with the African American population. Having big
natural curls has been the most popular style in the last couple years. But, not everyone wants to be
natural nor do they have to be because relaxed hair is still winning votes as well. Before the 21
century African Americans cried for relaxers so that their hair could be straight, flowing, and silky
smooth. Being in love with you natural hair wasn t an option way back then. Now we have options,

With relaxers you need a lot of grooming and touch ups are required every 6wks 3month for new
growth. Improper application of relaxer can cause breakage and hair damage!!! Which is why going to

relaxers that you can buy in the store but they aren t as effective as salon products. Maintaining
relaxed black hair requires deep conditioning weekly and moisturizing on a daily basis, if not the hair
will develop excessive dryness and experience hair breakage and excessive shedding. (Pugh, 2016) On
the plus side you get to see your hair length and don t have to play hide and go seek on a daily basis.
Even though natural hair is making a stamp on society, relaxed hair will always be accepted in the

pros and cons on both natural and relaxed hair. Now you can see which one fits your needs and what
you re more willing to deal with and what s a big negative for you. Both are great choice and both

Organizational Dynamics of Implementing Business Intelligence Initiatives
Business intelligence is the ability of a business to be able to extract actionable insight from business
as well as market data, which is used to make better decisions in business; and to improve the
corporate performance of the business. Business intelligence must exist for businesses in the world
today to survive(Electrosmard Ltd). Almost every business today worth its salt is looking for the
appropriate business intelligence technology in order to survive in today s fiercely competitive world.
Business intelligence also helps companies and businesses to survive during hard economic times.
During such periods, it is not a surprise to find companies still spending on the processes of business
intelligence because without such solutions, there is no business at all. In any case, there is a business;
it is most likely on the decline in terms of productivity and revenues. Business intelligence is not a
onetime thing; it is an ongoing process. Business intelligence goes on as long as the business is still
running; the business intelligence continues to exist too.
Business intelligence involves techniques based on computers that are used in the identification,
extraction, as well as the analysis of business data(Electrosmart Ltd). The business data in this case
could be revenue from sales made from given products, could also be sales that a given department
has made, or

City Of St. Petersburg Case Study
The dream, the vision and the action to finalize a deal which would bring a Major League Baseball
(MLB) team to the City of St. Petersburg was realized in 1998 when the Tamp Bay Devil Rays took
the field for the first time at Tropicana Field. The City of St. Petersburg became victorious in
succeeding where Tampa had prevailed so many times before. The triumph came when a group of
ambitious businessmen collaborated to build what became the Florida Suncoast Dome in 1988 in
downtown St. Petersburg. There had been a competition between Tampa and St. Petersburg to see who
would build a new baseball stadium first. Tampa already had Raymond James Stadium, had built
MacDill Air Force Base and the Florida Aquarium, St.Petersburg had nothing. St. Petersburg desperate
to attract big business and attractions to the west side of Tampa Bay went and built the new stadium
before securing a major league baseball team. The city was buried deep in the controversial move, for
a mid market city to invest in a stadium without first securing a franchise could cost the city and the
tax payers significantly. The gamble paid off and through years of trying to lure a franchise from other
cities and being denied at every opportunity, the City of St. Petersburg was granted an expansion team

The Role of Genes in the Development of Behavior Essay
The Role of Genes in the Development of Behavior The debate concerning the influence of genes on
human behavior has been on going for centuries. The nature vs. nurture (or heredity Vs. environment)
debates are one of the longest running, and most controversial, both inside and outside psychology. It
is concerned with some of the most fundamental questions a human being could ask, such as Why are
we they way we are? and why do we develop as we do? Historically this debate has been fought from
extreme perspectives, arguing that it is either nature (an individuals heredity genetic make up), or
nurture (the environmental influences upon an individual) that determine a person s behavior.

With philosophical thinkers such as the John Locke, who believed that at birth the human mind is
tabula rasa, a blank slate that is gradually filled with experience. On the other hand, the French

world was largely innate or inborn and that nature (heredity) determined certain abilities and
capacities. Popular in the eighteenth century was the philosophy of Jean Jacques Rousseau who
claimed that children should be free to develop as nature dictates. However towards the beginning of
the nineteenth century the heredity thesis was more dominant but then again the dominant opinion
swung to the environmental perspective by the middle of the century. The Canadian psychologist, D.
O. Hebb in 1949[1] argued that there was too much misunderstanding on the subject because two
separate facts had not been recognised. Firstly, that because we have the biological ability to form cell
assemblies that allow us to store memories and solve problems, we therefore have the innate ability to
form cell assemblies. However the second fact is that although we have this ability, we may not
necessarily be able to do so to the fullest extent, depending on the environment that may either help or

Economic Analysis of Remedial Education and How it...
INTRODUCTION
Education is an important part of one s life. It can shape a student s identity, challenge his biases, and
encourage him to be inquisitorial and entrepreneurial in his thinking. Education can also push a
student through institutions only to ascertain that he meets some minimum standard. Modern day high
schools are graduating students in record numbers (Richmond 2013) , but the prevalence of
remediation in higher education illustrates the structural failure of American public schools to
effectively, adequately, and equitably educate students, especially indigent student populations (Strong
American Schools). As such, this issue requires serious public policy consideration.

by charter to accept every New York City high school graduate who applies. While the city lauds
rising enrollment rates as evidence of its improved performance CUNY s community colleges have
had to double their annual spending on remediation in just a decade, to $33 million. Kamenev touches
on the role of teachers and how remedial classes cheapen the role of college professors to de facto
high school teachers.
Laura Diamond, reports in The Atlanta Journal Constitution, that nearly 23,000 Georgians enter
college unprepared and have to take learning support classes. Up to $22 million is spent in state
annually on these remedial courses (Diamond 2010). Remedial course credit does not count toward
diploma requirements and only about 25% of remedial students in Georgia earn a bachelor s degree

oversees college budgets, do not sugar coat the situation. Ehrhart said, ...college has become a
continuation of the K 12 education [these students] never received, and that is not what a college
education is supposed to be.

New Netherlands Influence On American Society
It s quite obvious that the nations outlined in Woodard s book have paved the road for the American
way today. Some nations have had bigger contributions than others. I think the New Netherlands
played the biggest role in both political and economic America today. New Netherlands was
established ,originally, as a trade post. As a direct result of the post there was a level of tolerance that
was necessary. It was this level of tolerance that shaped the way we ,should, behave today. The trading

Afghanistan Culture Vs American Culture Essay
Afghanistan has gone through centuries of turmoil, being controlled by different groups throughout its

Afghanistan in the Persian Ilkhanate, and the northeastern peninsula in the Chagatai Khanate. This is
where the Hazara ethnicity is believed to have originated (GALE|CX183...), which makes sense

Afghanistan s cuisine, ethnic composition, native dress, religious and ceremonial traditions, as well as
interpersonal relations and folklore are all prime examples of this cultural richness(GALE|CX183...).
Amir s name is itself an example, in Hebrew meaning branch (Name, Meaning, and Biblical Context
of Amir), and in Arabic meaning ruler or prince (Amir). Their food is a distinct melange of Indian,
Chinese, Persian, and Middle Eastern elements, with naan at every meal, and a mild palate of
spices(GALE|CX340...). Clothing is much the same cultural melange. Men wear turbans, which are
present in both Indian and Islamic culture, and women wear chadris or simply a dress with trousers
and a shawl over their head, again mirroring the dress of the Middle East and India(GALE|CX183...).

as love, kindness, compassion and justice.
Humanity
The Bible says that man, made in the image of God, is also spirit. It is man s spirit that communes
with the Holy Spirit. God also gave man a free will which allows man to love God willingly. Man
created in the image of God has remnants of his character which includes the capability to love, a
reason of a high level, and communicate with God. Man was also created with a sense of justice and
morality. However, sin also resides in our nature and led to the fall of Adam and Eve.

And whom I have created for My glory, ... (Isaiah 43:7 New International Version). God created all
things in harmony. He established a perfect creation that he loves and over which he rules. The highest
honor is given to mankind as the only part of creation made in God s image. Humanity was created to
love as God loves, to worship and praise his glory and commune with him as he does with us.
However, much of humanity is overly concerned with their own self serving, self centered agenda
which is a form of idolatry. Many individuals worship whatever their life is ordered around, failing to
see it in the light of the glory of God. Humanity relentlessly departs from the path God had intended
for them. True

The Heart And Vascular Institute
Clinical Specialty Area
The clinical area chosen was the Heart and Vascular Institute through one of the hospital systems I am
employed with. I had been involved with a project that studied the readmissions experienced within
the hospital system and established heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders
(COPD) were our highest readmission problems. Our organization had found that millions of dollars
had been left on the table since the Centers for Medicare Medicaid (CMS) handed down their final
ruling in 2012 regarding reduced payments for preventable readmissions (CMS.gov, 2016).
One of the outcomes of the project was the development of the rapid diuresis unit (RDU) through our
Cardiac Decision Units (CDU) at several campuses. I often wondered how the RDU of the CDU was
set up and how they function within the system. This is my opportunity to see the operation firsthand,
the clientele it serves, the staff, and potential education needs that the department faces.

The Relationship Between Geography, Climate And Economic...
1. Introduction
The purpose of the study is to establish and evaluate the relationship between geography, climate and
economic performance through individual income levels. This has been very vast area of consideration
in the academic community. Therefore, on the basis of extensive literature survey and previous
research analytics on similar disciplines, the scope of the present research would be conducting a two
stage econometric estimation, mainly regression to compute the relationship at the municipal level
income data per person across a computed set of geographical variables.
Geography and environment has a closer impact on socio economic development of a region.
Historical data has revealed that geography has some effect on shaping the economic history.
However, the amount of variance is an important consideration. Tropics are varied by broad climatic
zones and economies as well (Torres Mendez, 2000; 2002, Inter American Development Bank, 2000).
As a result, the research would identify the key geographical and climatic factors from the national
database and analyze its relationship with income per person longitudinal data for a time period of
1950 to 2014. This paper will analyze this variance to test and interpret the condition of
multicollinearity using a regression analysis, as some geographical factors might be highly correlated
impacting the ultimate results.

Teens And Gang Violence
About one third of every community experiences some sort of gang violence (Tucker). Although, it
may not directly affect one specific community. It is making a great impact on the new generation.
Gang violence among teens has become more prevalent in today s society. For example, during the
summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang
affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens.
Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the rest
of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of their
lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Philosopher Michel Foucault s work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment and
discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful acts.
In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment. Now
with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the soul . Foucault questions if these
new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective.
Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate crimes,
or murder. There are currently thirty one states in which the death penalty is legalized, including South
Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death penalty when murder is
committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. A person who is convicted of or pleads
guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for
thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory aggravating circumstance is
found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C), and a recommendation of death
is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life imprisonment ( Code of Laws ).
The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death penalty
say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. Deterrence is the action of discouraging an
action or event

Attending The UTEP Symphony Orchestra Concert
For my Cultural Event I had the opportunity to attend the UTEP symphony orchestra concert. This
concert took place at the fine arts center in UTEP. I choosed to attend this event for a variety of
different reasons. First of all, it was a fine arts event, and secondly, I love listening to classical music
that orchestras typically perform. I was in orchestra for a number of years during my elementary and
middle school education. Unfortunately, I stopped playing in High School in which I regret drastically.
I enjoy hearing all the instruments play different parts of the music piece and at the end they all create
a beautiful master piece.
I really liked how all the musicians in the orchestra each had their own personal style in playing their
instrument.

The Effects Of Removing Humans From The World s Nuclear...
I My Questions What I Already Know, and What I Want to Know Ever since I was young, I ve loved
exploring the concept of how things work. This idea can apply to an endless list of things whether it is
just a little toy, the most advanced car, or the tallest skyscraper. When I started reading The World
Without us by Alan Weisman, my mind was immediately drawn to the question of how some of
humans most interesting technology would function without our help. The most fascinating creation
that caught my attention turned out to be all the world s nuclear reactors. Though I only have limited
background knowledge about the way in which they operate, I have read about what can happen to
nuclear reactors even with man s supervision, and I am intrigued to discover the effects of removing
humans from the equation. A nuclear power plant, in a sense, is much like a fossil fueled power plant;
water is turned to steam which drives a turbine that creates electricity. The contrast comes in the
source of heat. With nuclear power, the heat to create the steam is produced when uranium atoms split,
a process called fission. Under control, this is an ingenious way to create a power supply, however, the
repercussions of a slight accident in a nuclear reactor are far worse than an accident in any other
power plant. Nuclear power plants are considered far more dangerous than others because of their
power source: the element uranium 235. When these atoms are split, they release an abundance of

Top 40 Richest Families in Pakistan
F ollowing is the list of the top 40 richest families in Pakistan at the moment. I received it through a
friend and have no idea about how authentic it is. It is an interesting read and does seem like that if not
100%, then it must 80% correct. However, it has missed some families which are sure to make the top
10, of the top of my head I can think of two: Giga (Pardesi family) and the family that owns ARY.
Both of them gave the government of Pakistan huge interest free loans when it was on the brink of
default after the sanctions imposed due to the nuclear tests almost crippled Pakistan. Anyway, check it
out if you have time, as it is quite a long post.

Roland Barthes The Rhetoric Of The Image Analysis
In his essay The Rhetoric of The Image, Roland Barthes explores the relationship between image and
meaning. He centres his discussion around the advertisement as advertising is a medium in which
there is an intended message being sent to the viewer. Barthes puts forward that if an image contains
signs, in advertising the signs are full , as these signs are formed with the viewer in mind so that the
intended message is not missed.
Barthes states that there are three messages that comprise a reading of an image:
The Linguistic message
The Iconic (symbolic/ connotated) message
The Denotated message (comprised of the physical objects within the image)
The linguistic message is that which is provided by text and, according to Barthes, is ... Show more

It creates an illogical connection between here now and the there then . As the photograph is a means
of recording a moment, it always contains stupefying evidence of this is how it was . In this way, the
denoted image can naturalise the connoted image as photographs retain a kind of natural being there
of objects ; that is, the quality of having recorded a moment in time. Barthes stresses that as
technology continues to develop the diffusion of information (and notably of images), the more it
provides the means of masking the constructed meaning under the appearance of the given meaning
(P159 60).
Connotation or the iconic message is not as easily explained as either the denotive or linguistic
messages. Significantly Barthes has left the discussion of this message to the very end of his essay.
The signs that constitute connotation are discontinuous. There is no definite way in which to interpret
the separate, connotative message and in the composition of the three (denotative, connotative and
linguistic) signs an aesthetic signified is carried. In much the same way as in text; when intonation is
applied, it is a separate signifier than that of the text itself in a linguistic

Computer Science Student Michael Heerklot
Incident 1: Stuxnet .LNK Vulnerability 1.1 Background Patched Windows machines remained
vulnerable to Stuxnet .LNK exploit since 2010. In early January 2015, Michael Heerklotz approached
the Zero Day Initiative with details of a vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows operating system and
it was assigned CVE 2015 0096. Stuxnet .LNK Vulnerability was discovered by a German computer
science student Michael Heerklot, who through interest in the discovery and impact of Stuxnet exploit,
decided to investigate Stuxnet attack, particularly the hack of the Natanz uranium enrichment facility
where the .LNK vulnerability in windows shell was exploited in 2010 [1]. He examined the .LNK
vulnerability, which was presumably patched by Microsoft, to ... Show more content on

The issue is that in Windows, icons are executed from modules (either executables or dynamic link
libraries). In fact, .CPL files are actually DLLs. Because an attacker could define which executable
module would be loaded, an attacker could use the .LNK file to execute arbitrary code inside of the
Windows shell and do anything the current user could [2]. The first patch released August in 2010,
Microsoft put in an explicit whitelist check with MS10 046. Once installed, it intended to ensure that
only approved .CPL files should have been used to load non standard icons for links. This patch failed
and for more than four years, all windows files have been vulnerable to exactly the same attack that
stuxnet attackers used in initial exploit. In light of its recent rediscovery, it is unknown if other groups
discovered and exploited the vulnerability in the wild [2]. The section below explores the section of
code that was patched in the initial patch in 2010 and how the vulnerability remained vulnerable. The
definition of the function shown below is taken from a function called
CControlPanelFolder::GetUiObjectOf() in Shell32.dll. Shown in the diagram below is the first block
that was changed after zero day vulnerability was discovered. In the event below a whitelist check was
put in place. The definition calls for a custom icon, with the iconID of 0, which is checked against a

It is causing an increase in suicides. They are now legal in over four fifths of all the states in America. The owners of the track take 18 to 21 percent of money wagered. The bettor has a likelihood of winning only a 0.41 to 0.44 probability of winning. That is about one half of one percent! But, it is a well known fact that when a man wins at gambling, he is very likely to stay in for another game and then lose his winnings! It is no wonder that it is called gambling fever. It is almost an insanity which grips a person. What about slot machines? They help Los Vegas take in a yearly income of $3 billion from gambling. The typical slot machine has a payoff of $5,888 for every $8,000 invested over a period of time. Lose, lose, lose; that is what gambling is. That is the basis of its excitement. Is it exciting to lose your money? That is what gambling is all about. Stay home and you lose no money, but that is not thought to be as exciting by some people. Bingo is another great loser, but, each year in America, it takes in $4.2 billion. That is money taken from the pockets of the common people. And then there is the state lottery. • 3. Analysis Of How To Keep Jealousy And Envy From Ruining... In modern society, one of the major determinants of our sense of wellbeing, in my opinion, is comparing ourselves to others. While comparison motivates us to learn good qualities, pursue a brighter future and own a grateful hearts, it also has an adverse effect when we compare our true inner selves to the pictures of perfect life created by others on social media. To begin with, Amanda Chan s article How To Keep Jealousy And Envy From Ruining Your Life serves as a foundation which introduces both positive and negative sides of comparison. On the one hand, comparison makes us more likely to be occupied by emotions of jealous and envy, which arouses feelings of inferiority and spite, and thus reduces our happiness. In the book The One Minute Manager, Kenneth Blanchard and Spencer Johnson introduce the readers an innovative idea of one minute management through an allegory of an anonymous man in search for an effective manager for his management secrets (Blanchard Johnson 26). Throughout the anonymous man s journey, he learns many lessons, which Blanchard and Johnson have summarized into the following three essential secrets . First, Blanchard and Johnson advocate One Minute Goal Setting is the first [secret] and the foundation for One Minute Management (27). One Minute Goal Setting is simply: 1. Agree on your goals. 2. See what good behavior looks like. 3. Write out each of your goals on a single sheet of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After introducing the One Minute Goal Setting as the fundamental of effective management, the authors also demonstrate the way of doing One Minute Praising the second secret. One Minute Praising is simply: 1. Tell people up front that you are going to let them know how they are doing. 2. Praise people immediately. 3. Tell people what they did right be specific. 4. Shake hands or touch people in a way that makes it clear that you support their success in the organization (44) While presenting the elements in the On Minute Praising, the authors also use a practical detailed example to emphasize its benefit and importance on encouraging hard work and good performance. • 7. Analysis Of Rose-Johnny And Drinking Coffee Elsewhere In the two stories Rose Johnny and Drinking Coffee Elsewhere examples of the use of stereotypes, labels and/or prejudices upon people can be seen throughout these stories. The main characters in these stories face labeling and stereotypes in seperate ways. In this essay, the causes and effects of stereotypes, labels, and prejudices will be analyzed and explained by comparing each story s underlying ideas, by understanding the environment the main characters are living in and also understanding how stereotypes come to be in the first place. In the story, Rose Johnny understanding the stereotypes and how the environment affects the characters takes careful analysis. The main characters Georgeann and Rose Johnny are in a unique situation where stereotypes are frowned upon and are accepted throughout the town. When Georgeann says, Walnut Knobs was a small enough town that a person did not need to be told things directly. she is referring to how the town, without a word, tries to keep the children away from Rose Johnny. This is a clear example of the prejudice against people who are lesbian like Rose Johnny. Furthermore, Georgeann meets Rose Johnny and is underwhelmed by the reality of who she really is. She is faced with someone that seemed quite normal, the only thing that differs her from the other women is her hair, according to Georgeann. She realized that Rose Johnny did not look like how everyone described her to be, half man and half woman. but rather ordinary. When Georgean was sent to the store to get chicken mash she saw the unseen side of Rose Johnny in which she felt no fear towards. Although Georgeann sees Rose Johnny for the person she is, discrimination was still demonstrated by the two men standing behind her as they told her to tell her father to never to send his little girls instead to send his boys. This is another example of discrimination in a way that Georgeann would not understand since she is still young. The men stereotyped Rose Johnny for the way she is and created a bad image of her without them knowing her actual personality. We can also take in for account the setting of the main characters, a traditional small town where Rose Johnny has been stereotyped into something she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Lyndon B Johnson s Speech To Overcome Summary Lyndon B. Johnson s We Shall Overcome During the 1960 s, America was divided over the voting rights of African Americans, who had won their freedom from slavery a century before but had not yet gained the right to vote. This was a time of racial discrimination, as well as a time of political unrest. In his speech, We Shall Overcome, which was delivered to Congress on March 16, 1965, Johnson broke many boundaries that had previously been set by his predecessors. His use of pathos, ethos and logos attempted to persuade the Congress to pass a bill that would start to push for equality for every citizen of the United States and alert the nation of the unethical segregation. Johnson s goal of passing the Voting Rights Act through his speech We Shall Overcome was especially effective due to his use use of pathos. Johnson s specific audience to which he is speaking is members of Congress; however, he also speaks to the American public attempting to connect and get their support. In his words to Congress, he is asking not only for the support of Congress in passing this act but also for the support of the American public. When he mentions to all in the Nation tonight , this shows that he also wants the support of all Americans. He hopes to show that he is not just concerned about the legislative aspect of this civil rights issue but that he is also concerned with the ethical and moral issues of the situation showing that this issue is about more than just a law. • 9. The Tragedy Of The Commons The Tragedy of the Commons American Earth: Environmental Writing Since Thoreau is a diverse yet interconnected collection of essays by renowned environmentalist authors who have been influential in literature, religion, science, and politics. Each piece has a specific purpose and role that it plays in conveying ideas and themes. Many authors share their personal opinions on issues such as the world s declining forests, the extinction of species, such as birds in Gene Stratton Porter s The Last Passenger Pigeon (192), and their intimate experiences with nature, such as Julia Butterfly Hill s The legacy of Luna (907). However, the most influential essay in this book is The Tragedy of the Commons by Garrett Hardin (438). A multitude of pieces in this book tie into the tragedy of the commons and support its ideas in one way or another. In his essay Hardin discusses how the rapid decline of the world s common places, such as natural animal pastures, are the result of rapid, uncontrolled human population growth. Hardin suggests that environmental problems such as deforestation, crowding out of native species, loss of resources, pollution, poor job economy, etc., are the result of the loss of common spaces. He indicated that common spaces used to be plentiful enough for every person to have an abundant share, but that was when the human population was smaller than the current population of 7 billion people. • 10. Relationship Between The West And Iran The relationship between the West and Iran has been notoriously rocky. Several main factors accumulating at the beginning in the 20th century have led to a perfect storm of religion, imperialism and radicalism that have come together to create the Islamic Republic of Iran that was built primarily on anti Americanism. How did this happen and why is this republic so anti American? The Islamic Republic is built upon a revolutionary type of anti Americanism that can be found among opposition groups seeking to overthrow regimes closely identified with the United States; attacking such regimes thus involves attacking the United States. Researcher and analyst, Ray Takeyh, a Senior Fellow for Middle Eastern Studies on the Council on Foreign Relations, says Iran persistently puzzles Westerners with its dualities, contradictions and paradoxes. He says the West constantly gets Iran wrong because of its failure to understand Iran s factional politics and ideology. These dualities and contradictions, for Takeyh, see Iran, in essence, as suffering from an identity crisis. While the Persians continue to find themselves in the modern world, it is clear that Iran has been shaped and manipulated by foreign regimes in the past that has left Iran encompassed in delusion, paranoia and mistrust of the West. Adam Tarock, professor of Political Science, from the University of Melbourne, elegantly noted the pattern of Iranian foreign policy showing the dualities and inconsistencies of ... • 11. Ben Her Movie BEN HER REVIEW Ben Her is a film what is about forgiveness and hate. I will be reviewing the length of the movie and how that effects the movie and second Ill review how Jesus was shown in the movies. A brief overview of the movie is as follows. Messala and Judah (Ben Her) are brothers. But when messala leaves to fight for Rome things change between them. The reason behind this is because Rome and Jerusalem don t get along. After Messala returns, there is an accident and Judah takes blame. With this, he goes on a long, awful adventure. But he eventually finds the Sheik and things start to turn up. Lastly He then enters a chariot race that he will either win and stay alive, or die trying. The length differences in the movies are one of the biggest reason on how they are different. In the 1959 film the boat scenes and when he meets a friend drag out the movie way longer than it needs to be. There are also Long scenes with a lot of side stories ... Dandelions dismantled by the wind as fresh cut grass stuck to the bottom of my sneakers. This is my memory from age eight when I attended elementary school. I had little regard to plants and flowers. • 20. Suffering With Food Poisoning Caused By Salmonella Sp Essay Scenario C The patient in this scenario C was suffering with food poisoning caused by Salmonella sp. Non typhoid Salmonella sp. causes inflammation of the digestive tract (enterocolitis). Common symptoms such as abdominal pain, fever, myalgia and watery non bloody diarrhoea usually appear between 8 and 72 h after the ingestion of a pathogen (D Aoust, 1994). Human salmonellosis is self limiting infection, nevertheless patients are advised to replace fluid and electrolytes (D Aoust, 1994). Sometimes the progression of enterocolitis into local infections via blood stream can occur (D Aoust, 1994; D Aoust, 1991). The infection process is very complex due to numerous virulent factors of the pathogen. In order to enter the small intestine a bacterium must first overcome the antimicrobial activity of saliva enzyme, lactoperoxidase and the low pH of digestive fluid in the (D Aoust, 1991). Cytotoxin present on the bacterial cell wall disturb membrane integrity of the host cells which contribute to bacterium attachment and to cell invasion (D Aoust, 1991). Salmonella attaches itself to the intestinal epithelial cells by fimbriae. Pathogens enter epithelial cells by membrane bound vesicle, this process is known as bacteria mediated endocytosis (D Aoust, 1991). Bacterium then divide and invade mucosa layer. Diarrheagenic enterotoxin is released in the intestinal lumen and into the lumen of epithelial cells. Effect of enterotoxin and local inflammation cause water and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis Of The Poem Harlem James Mercer Langston Hughes was an American poet; a Joplin, Missouri native and an active, versatile writer, earning acclaim as a poet, novelist, playwright and columnist. He was one of the first poets to explore an innovative sing songy, stylized delivery called jazz poetry. As an African American, his point of view, collectively synergized with this then new literary art, catapulted his writings between the 1930s 1960s. He is often credited as the leader of the Harlem Renaissance, and famously wrote about the period that the negro was in vogue. (Langston). Throughout his body of work, Hughes spoke eloquently to the full spectrum of dreams both their inspirational power and their heavy burden, if not fully realized. His famed ... In his 1951 poem, the title alone, Harlem (Dream Deferred) makes the reader immediately conscious of the speaker s dismissal of ownership. The piece examines, upon deferral, what happens to a dream Does it dry up / like a raisin the sun? Hughes later deduces Maybe it just sags like a heavy load. There, with its indication of weight, the reader draws comparison to a dream being a burden an unbearable, unattainable measuring stick in the speaker s life, or in this piece s case, America s life. Hughes, now older, having seen more of the world is grappling with the injustices of equality and equity. Can an African American attain his/her dream without it wilting under the prejudices of an unfair America? He saw the dreams of many residents of Harlem, New York disintegrate in the wake of World War II. Some read this poem as a warning, believing that the speaker argues that deferred dreams will lead to social unrest. Notably, Lorraine Hansberry chose a line from this poem as the title of her famous play, A Raisin in the Sun, which explores the idea of delayed dreams in the world of a black family living in the South Side of Chicago during the 1950s. Both the play and Hughes s poem champion the power of pursuing dreams, and both comment on the state of civil rights in America. (Shmoop) This work seems to continually call for the ... Nissan has incorporated theories such as Just in Time (JIT), Toyota Production Systems (TPS), and Lean production into their OM functions. JIT is a process that focuses on supply chain management to reduce carrying costs by having supply provided and output produced exactly when they are needed (Linton, 2016). JIT emphasizes forced problem solving, which is one JIT s biggest advantages. This allows Nissan to focus on the problems, ultimately reducing inventory and cutting variability and waste. Nissan implemented JIT prior to the earthquake catastrophe, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Merger And Acquisitions From A Strategic Financial... In recent times, merger and acquisition are considered as one of the important steps for strategic growth. • 43. The Heart And Vascular Institute Clinical Specialty Area The clinical area chosen was the Heart and Vascular Institute through one of the hospital systems I am employed with. I had been involved with a project that studied the readmissions experienced within the hospital system and established heart failure (HF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disorders (COPD) were our highest readmission problems. Our organization had found that millions of dollars had been left on the table since the Centers for Medicare Medicaid (CMS) handed down their final ruling in 2012 regarding reduced payments for preventable readmissions (CMS.gov, 2016). One of the outcomes of the project was the development of the rapid diuresis unit (RDU) through our Cardiac Decision Units (CDU) at several campuses. I often wondered how the RDU of the CDU was set up and how they function within the system. This is my opportunity to see the operation firsthand, the clientele it serves, the staff, and potential education needs that the department faces. • 44. The Relationship Between Geography, Climate And Economic... 1. Introduction The purpose of the study is to establish and evaluate the relationship between geography, climate and economic performance through individual income levels. This has been very vast area of consideration in the academic community. Therefore, on the basis of extensive literature survey and previous research analytics on similar disciplines, the scope of the present research would be conducting a two stage econometric estimation, mainly regression to compute the relationship at the municipal level income data per person across a computed set of geographical variables. Geography and environment has a closer impact on socio economic development of a region. Historical data has revealed that geography has some effect on shaping the economic history. However, the amount of variance is an important consideration. Tropics are varied by broad climatic zones and economies as well (Torres Mendez, 2000; 2002, Inter American Development Bank, 2000). As a result, the research would identify the key geographical and climatic factors from the national database and analyze its relationship with income per person longitudinal data for a time period of 1950 to 2014. This paper will analyze this variance to test and interpret the condition of multicollinearity using a regression analysis, as some geographical factors might be highly correlated impacting the ultimate results. 1.1 Research Questions In the overview of understanding the dependency of climatic, geographical and ... It is making a great impact on the new generation. Gang violence among teens has become more prevalent in today s society. For example, during the summer of 2017 in Lancaster South Carolina, five teenagers were murdered by other teens in gang affiliated behaviors. Thus, resulting in imprisonment. The question is how we punish these teens. Should they receive the death penalty for committing an act of murder? Or should they spend the rest of their lives in prison with a chance of being released back into society. What is the value of their lives? Understand they are in the prime of their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Philosopher Michel Foucault s work Discipline and Punish speaks about the changes punishment and discipline have taken. Punishment has always been used to discourage criminals from unlawful acts. In the beginning, punishment was aimed at the body through things like corporal punishment. Now with prison systems in place, the aim is at what Foucault calls the soul . Foucault questions if these new methods of punishment and discipline are indeed affective. Commonly the criminals who receive death penalties have committed an act of terrorism, hate crimes, or murder. There are currently thirty one states in which the death penalty is legalized, including South Carolina. In the state of South Carolina, by law, a person receives the death penalty when murder is committed with one of twelve aggravating circumstances. A person who is convicted of or pleads guilty to murder must be punished by death, or by a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment for thirty years to life. If the State seeks the death penalty and a statutory aggravating circumstance is found beyond a reasonable doubt pursuant to subsections (B) and (C), and a recommendation of death is not made, the trial judge must impose a sentence of life imprisonment ( Code of Laws ). The support for and against the death penalty is equally weighted. Those who are for the death penalty say that it creates both specific and general deterrence. This concert took place at the fine arts center in UTEP. I choosed to attend this event for a variety of different reasons. First of all, it was a fine arts event, and secondly, I love listening to classical music that orchestras typically perform. I was in orchestra for a number of years during my elementary and middle school education. Unfortunately, I stopped playing in High School in which I regret drastically. I enjoy hearing all the instruments play different parts of the music piece and at the end they all create a beautiful master piece. I really liked how all the musicians in the orchestra each had their own personal style in playing their instrument. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Effects Of Removing Humans From The World s Nuclear... I My Questions What I Already Know, and What I Want to Know Ever since I was young, I ve loved exploring the concept of how things work. This idea can apply to an endless list of things whether it is just a little toy, the most advanced car, or the tallest skyscraper. When I started reading The World Without us by Alan Weisman, my mind was immediately drawn to the question of how some of humans most interesting technology would function without our help. The most fascinating creation that caught my attention turned out to be all the world s nuclear reactors. Though I only have limited background knowledge about the way in which they operate, I have read about what can happen to nuclear reactors even with man s supervision, and I am intrigued to discover the effects of removing humans from the equation. A nuclear power plant, in a sense, is much like a fossil fueled power plant; water is turned to steam which drives a turbine that creates electricity. The contrast comes in the source of heat. With nuclear power, the heat to create the steam is produced when uranium atoms split, a process called fission. Under control, this is an ingenious way to create a power supply, however, the repercussions of a slight accident in a nuclear reactor are far worse than an accident in any other power plant. Nuclear power plants are considered far more dangerous than others because of their power source: the element uranium 235. When these atoms are split, they release an abundance of ... However, it has missed some families which are sure to make the top 10, of the top of my head I can think of two: Giga (Pardesi family) and the family that owns ARY. Both of them gave the government of Pakistan huge interest free loans when it was on the brink of default after the sanctions imposed due to the nuclear tests almost crippled Pakistan. • 49. Roland Barthes The Rhetoric Of The Image Analysis In his essay The Rhetoric of The Image, Roland Barthes explores the relationship between image and meaning. He centres his discussion around the advertisement as advertising is a medium in which there is an intended message being sent to the viewer. Barthes puts forward that if an image contains signs, in advertising the signs are full , as these signs are formed with the viewer in mind so that the intended message is not missed. Barthes states that there are three messages that comprise a reading of an image: The Linguistic message The Iconic (symbolic/ connotated) message The Denotated message (comprised of the physical objects within the image) The linguistic message is that which is provided by text and, according to Barthes, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It creates an illogical connection between here now and the there then . As the photograph is a means of recording a moment, it always contains stupefying evidence of this is how it was . In this way, the denoted image can naturalise the connoted image as photographs retain a kind of natural being there of objects ; that is, the quality of having recorded a moment in time. Barthes stresses that as technology continues to develop the diffusion of information (and notably of images), the more it provides the means of masking the constructed meaning under the appearance of the given meaning (P159 60). Connotation or the iconic message is not as easily explained as either the denotive or linguistic messages. Significantly Barthes has left the discussion of this message to the very end of his essay. The signs that constitute connotation are discontinuous. There is no definite way in which to interpret the separate, connotative message and in the composition of the three (denotative, connotative and linguistic) signs an aesthetic signified is carried. In much the same way as in text; when intonation is applied, it is a separate signifier than that of the text itself in a linguistic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Computer Science Student Michael Heerklot Incident 1: Stuxnet .LNK Vulnerability 1.1 Background Patched Windows machines remained vulnerable to Stuxnet .LNK exploit since 2010. In early January 2015, Michael Heerklotz approached the Zero Day Initiative with details of a vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows operating system and it was assigned CVE 2015 0096. Stuxnet .LNK Vulnerability was discovered by a German computer science student Michael Heerklot, who through interest in the discovery and impact of Stuxnet exploit, decided to investigate Stuxnet attack, particularly the hack of the Natanz uranium enrichment facility where the .LNK vulnerability in windows shell was exploited in 2010 [1]. He examined the .LNK vulnerability, which was presumably patched by Microsoft, to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The issue is that in Windows, icons are executed from modules (either executables or dynamic link libraries). In fact, .CPL files are actually DLLs. Because an attacker could define which executable module would be loaded, an attacker could use the .LNK file to execute arbitrary code inside of the Windows shell and do anything the current user could [2]. The first patch released August in 2010, Microsoft put in an explicit whitelist check with MS10 046. Once installed, it intended to ensure that only approved .CPL files should have been used to load non standard icons for links. This patch failed and for more than four years, all windows files have been vulnerable to exactly the same attack that stuxnet attackers used in initial exploit. In light of its recent rediscovery, it is unknown if other groups discovered and exploited the vulnerability in the wild [2]. The section below explores the section of code that was patched in the initial patch in 2010 and how the vulnerability remained vulnerable. The definition of the function shown below is taken from a function called CControlPanelFolder::GetUiObjectOf() in Shell32.dll.
