Description:
The Broyhill McLean Estates neighborhood stormwater improvement project was substantially completed on August
12, 2016, on time and within budget. This is one of the County’s first “Green Street” projects that includes the
installation of green stormwater infrastructure (GSIs) practices within a road right-of-way to manage previously
uncontrolled stormwater runoff. The GSI practices include a series of bioretention cells, infiltration swales and natural
channel design techniques that reduce and treat runoff from 26.5 acres of land with approximately 10 acres of
impervious surfaces (driveways, roof tops and roads) within this residential community. These facilities help improve
water quality and reduce the erosive energy of stormwater runoff before it discharges to the local stream, Dead Run.
The estimated water quality benefits realized by this project will be the removal of approximately 5 lbs./year of total
phosphorus, 28 lbs./year of total nitrogen and 799 lbs./year of total suspended solids.

• Creation of three (3) off-line bioretention facilities and infiltration swales
