Breathing and stretching activity
1. RELAXING AFTER EXCITEMENT TIME AND FOCUSING ON
NEW TASK
GOALS:
Breathing activity within emotional education.
Objective one. To focus attention at the present moment and enjoy it
at most taking advantage of it and to get the most efficiency from time
on task.
Objective two. To promote self control trough relaxing and breathing.
Objective three. To disconnect from a previous activity, normally
stressing or physically exciting, such as physical education class, an
exam or a test, a rainy day without playground time, sports or games
at break times.
Objective four. To increase, step by step and through practice, the
attention capacity in order to improve the creative way for problem
resolution. That is essential for keeping the explicit memory active,
which will help to develope the selective attention for school and study
time.
And to reach the aim by the stretching activities following a
kinesthetic- visual and auditive pattern.
Objective five. To express feelings of caring and accepting oneself and
the others. Moreover, through the stretching activity, to consolidate
love and group belonging.
Objective six. To share respectfully the moment for doing the relaxing
and breathing exercises and the stretchings.
Objective seven. To accept the differences and variety of ways to do all
the activities depending on the characteristics of each child .
2. DESCRIPTION:
➡First step: All students come into class from the previous period and
the teacher asks them to sit down on their chairs and to put the backs
straight and the hands and arms on the table and the head on the
arms in a relaxed way. Arms must be relaxed and they must sit down
comfortably and then close their eyes for a few moments.
➡Second step: Everybody is going to listen to relaxing music, from a
wide variety of different countries and cultures, to develope the
activity. When the music finishes, all the students will put their heads
up slowly and listen to the teacher to follow the instructions.
Then they will open their eyes carefully.
➡Third step: The teacher will change the music and play then a
different song, with a remarked and more active rhythm, and then the
teacher will say, softly and slowly, what parts of their faces or bodies
the students must softly and gently move or stretch out. One by one,
the different parts of the body will be consciously stretched and, at the
same time, the hearing of each student must be on the music,
following the rhythm, which will be now an active one, as well as the
movements simultaneously.
Meanwhile, everybody is consciousness breathing, slowly and
carefully, as the teacher will remind.
Final step: to end the practice, everybody must recover the position
from the beginning of the whole activity and listen carefully again to
the teacher's voice as the activity finishes.
➡ During all the mindfulness practice, everybody is
consciousness breathing, slowly and carefully, as the teacher will
remind before starting and later again.
