This document discusses working together to support breastfeeding through various means such as creating an online platform, finding partners, sharing experiences, and assessing achievements. It emphasizes sustaining collaboration to achieve long-term goals like the UN Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 by working across sectors and generations. The online platform outlined can help identify gaps and actions, find potential partners, and share and learn from experiences to assess and plan future actions in supporting breastfeeding.

For the first time, Indonesia celebrated Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28 May 2017. Various international and national organizations, under a coalition named WASH Network, are working closely with the Government of Indonesia to disseminate the importance of Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) at schools. There are at least six organizations, such as UNICEF, Plan International Indonesia, SNV, Wahana Visi Indonesia, GIZ Fit for Schools, and SPEAK Indonesia that jointly supports the Menstrual Hygiene campaign with Ministry of Education and Culture (MoEC) and Ministry of Health (MoH). This report highlight activities conducted, challenges and achievements of the campaign.
Maybe at this point in time, India cannot claim to be a hunger-free nation. But, the government along with non-governmental organisations like Akshaya Patra, and the civil society has accelerated its efforts to counter the prevailing issue of hunger. And, the various schemes and initiatives are a testimony to this effort.

Quote from the Introduction from the Global Nutrition report
"This year’s Global Nutrition Report focuses on the interdependence of the SDGs, and how progress against one goal generates progress for all. Nowhere are these linkages more evident than in the food agenda. As the producers, manufacturers and retailers of most of the world’s food, business has a responsibility to help drive the food system transformation. As a progressive food company, we are
committed to helping redesign our global food and agriculture system, to give everyone access to healthy and nutritious food and diets and thereby create a brighter future for all.
Awareness of Exclusive Breastfeeding Practice Among Mothers’ In The Formal Se...QUESTJOURNAL
ABSTRACT: The study examined the practice of exclusive breastfeeding among working mothers in the formal sector. The objectives of the study were, to evaluate the extent of exclusive breastfeeding awareness; to ascertain how working mothers cope with exclusive breastfeeding. The study applied social action theory, quantitative and qualitative method of data collection was used. Two hundred questionnaires were administered to mothers’ attending university of Abuja teaching hospital (UATH), St Mary’s Private Hospital and Area Council Town Clinic. From the returned questionnaires, one hundred and eighty seven (187) of them were correctly answered. Also two rounds of In-depth interview was conducted, participants were paediatric doctors and nurses. Analysis was done using frequency counts and simple percentages, while chi-square (X2 ) was used in testing hypotheses. Findings showed that majority of the working mothers practice exclusive breastfeeding, but the practice is stressful. It was also observed that mothers with higher qualifications tend to practice exclusive breastfeeding because of its gains. Also work place lack facilities to cater for the needs of working mothers. The research is significant to government on policy issues and other related agencies for a productive workforce and a greater reduction in infant mortality. The study suggested among others that the policy for maternity leave should be reviewed upward. Again, work places should establish crèches for a productive workforce.
The African Economic Research Consortium (AERC) held its twenty second Senior Policy Seminar on March 09-10, 2020 in Abuja, Nigeria under the theme : “Agriculture and Food Policies for Nutrition in Africa”. Panel member Dr Adebisi Araba, Africa Director, International Center for Tropical Agriculture attended the event.
World Breastfeeding Week is an annual celebration marked from 1-7 August that highlights this essential practice. This year it is built around the theme of Breastfeeding Support for Mothers. More mothers breastfeed when they receive support, counselling and education in health centres and in their communities
GOOD NUTRITION IS THE BEDROCK OF HUMAN WELL-BEING. BEFORE BIRTH AND THROUGHOUT INFANCY, GOOD NUTRITION ALLOWS BRAIN FUNCTIONING TO evolve without impairment and immune systems to develop more robustly. For young children, good nutrition status averts death and equips the body to grow and develop to its full potential. Over the course of the human lifespan, it leads to more effective learning at school, better-nourished mothers who give birth to better-nourished children, and adults who are likelier to be productive and earn higher wages. In middle age, it gives people metabolisms that are better prepared to ward off the diseases associated with changes in diet and physical activity. Without good nutrition, people’s lives and livelihoods are built on quicksand.

Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.
Stay informed, stay safe, and get your flu shot today!

1. WBW2017 celebrates working together for the common good, which produces sustainable results, greater than the sum of our individual efforts.
Evidence on the benefits of breastfeeding is already available to us.We know that breastfeeding aids the survival of infants and helps them thrive, has
long-term health benefits for women, yields economic benefits and enhances the wellbeing of all.The challenge for champions of breastfeeding is to
translate globally agreed policies to positive action in our communities.
We learnt inWBW2016 how the protection, promotion and support for breastfeeding are a key to sustainable development. We grouped the 17 SDGs
into fourThematic Areas that relate to each other and to breastfeeding. These four groups help us to define our work in the context of the SDGs. From
this year onwards, they will also help us find others to work with.
Many hands make light work and each of us has a part to play. Let us start!
Starting withWBW2017,WABA will create an online platform to enable celebrants to work with
others to achieve long-term goals. The online platform can help with the following:
1. Identify gaps and actions
The Resources section will have relevant information that can help identify gaps and ideas on how
to address them.
2. Find potential partners
Find partners who wish to collaborate on common goals and actions.
3. Share and learn
Manage your collaboration more effectively. Share your experiences of working together and learn
from others!
4. Assess and plan
Review your experience and achievements and prepare for future actions.

Optimal infant-feeding practices
Breastfeeding is vital to the healthy growth and development of infants.
It also has important implications for the health of mothers.
WHO and UNICEF recommend:
∙ Initiation of breastfeeding within the first hour of life
∙ Exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months is the optimal way of feeding
infants. Exclusive breastfeeding – the infant only receives breastmilk
without any additional food or drink, not even water
∙ Breastfeeding on demand
∙ No use of bottles, teats or pacifiers
∙ After 6 months, infants should receive
complementary foods with continued
breastfeeding up to 2 years of age or beyond
CommonPurposefortheCommonGood
One important aspect of partnerships is the issue of conflicts of interest
(CoI). In the context of infant and young child feeding, conflicts of
interest do not only apply to health professionals. It may arise for
anyone (including a non-professional health worker or health educator)
or any organisation (e.g. hospitals, NGOs, or government agencies)
responsible for promoting optimal infant and young child feeding when
they accept gifts, sponsorship or any other source of funding from the
baby food industry.
It is important to avoid conflicts of interest and choose partners
carefully that are willing to defend the public
interest rather than commercial interests.
Safeguards need to be put in place to avoid or
minimise the risk of CoI.
While forging partnerships, the International Code
of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and all
subsequentWHA Resolutions are essential
safeguards that should be considered a priority.
Sustaining Breastfeeding-Together reminds us that we all have a part to play in creating an enabling environment for women to breastfeed successfully.
We can achieve this by attracting political support, media attention and the participation of a range of actors, especially young people.
WABA calls on partners to work together to widen the pool of activism around the mother-baby dyad. Our Warm Chain of Support for Breastfeeding
campaign strives to link different actors by coordinating efforts at all levels to provide a continuum of care for mothers and babies following the first
1,000 days timeline. Consistent messages and proper referral systems throughout the warm chain will ensure the mother-baby dyad benefits from
ongoing support and skilled assistance.
A team effort is needed to make breastfeeding work. We need to link change-makers at community, country, regional and global levels to call for
collective action and impact. All mothers will then be empowered with a satisfying and effective breastfeeding experience.
