The Motto of the World State is Community, Identity, Stability.
With detailed reference to the novel, how do you view this in relation to individual freedom?
"Community, Identity, Stability."–– The motto that shapes and defines the entire civilized world. Civilians like Lenina believe that the motto has
given them their individual freedom. "I am free. Free to have the most wonderful time. Everybody's happy nowadays." (Page 79) Ironically, Huxley
was trying to convey the exact opposite message. The motto really speaks of a heavy price paid –– freedom in exchange for collective happiness.

Firstly all family relations must be completely abolished. People no longer know what monogamy, romance, families and mothers are, and along
with that, stripped of the right to practice them. Then there is the use of soma. As Mustapha Mond exclaims, you can now carry half your morals
around in a bottle, because the slightest bouts of any negative emotions can be instantly cured by the drug. Like ostriches the whole civilized world
choose to bury themselves in their soma holiday in face of the tiniest adversity. Living in that bubble of false happiness, they have lost all ability and
freedom to have emotions. John the Savage believes that being happy all the time is a prison on its own, and he claims the "right to be unhappy".
After all, being a human, even at its most abject and abased state, is about the right to feel, to love and to hate.
The citizens of the World Statehave also lost their right to know and to create. They are all intellectually degraded, even for an Alpha Plus. Watsons
himself, the most distinguished Emotional Engineer admits that the hypnopaedic lines he writes are "idiotic, writing when there's nothing to say".

Individual Freedoms are Limited by one's Ethnicity
" You never understand a person until you consider things from his point of view... until you climb into his skin and walk around in it" ( Atticus Finch,
TKAM). There are two characters that come to mind when thinking of this theme. Elie Weisel the main character from the novel Night a horrendous
first person point of view from the Holocaust and Tom Robinson a black man falsely accused because of his race from To Kill A Mockingbird. Both of
these people are quickly judged because of their race/ religion. In conclusion, both of these characters demonstrate that individual freedoms are
limited by one's ethnicity. Individual freedoms are limited in Harper Lee's novel through Tom Robinson. He is judged and accused of a major

The holocaust was a mass killing of Jews because they were Jewish. Hitler ordered jews out of their homes and forced them to concentration
camps where they were left to die our main character Ellie was part of this. Ellie was forced out of his house into a ghetto and then sent on his
journey to Auschwitz where he and many other Jews were supposed to die. Ellie unlike many Jews survived the concentration camp and lived until

Some states even had official state supported churches. All was still not equal when it came to religion. So how then were we any different than
England? We were no different, pure and simple. The right to to worship as you choose was lacking, and thereligious persecution had followed our
citizens across the "pond".
Religion was such a hot button that a person could be executed for following the wrong one, depending on your geographical location in the
colonies. Violence was not in short supply, as religious differences led to much bloodshed. Definitely not the sunshine lollipops and rainbows

and Protestants. It lead to the death of 62 colonists, and another 100 were injured. Theses riots, the Orange Riots, were a prime example of how little
progress we had made toward religious freedom in the colonies. What subject could lead to such violence? Why it was all about the Bible in Public
Schools, of course. Colonists were discriminated against, tortured and executed all under the umbrella of religious differences. Aside from the
violence, religion elicited in colonial times, civil rights were also not what they are today. Laws were passed over the next several decades, to prevent

Every individual has their own boundaries. These external boundaries allow people to know their limitations on other individual. It allows a person to
know until where can an individual push things and not hurt another person. However, when an individual imposed their own boundaries to another

In the poem "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings" by Maya Angelou, the poem demonstrated a sample of external boundary being imposed on an
individual. For instance, a line in the poem states, "his wings are clipped and his feet are tied." The bird in a cage can be assumed that it is a
metaphor of a person dealing with external boundaries. This individual feels like he is imprisoned by someone else's boundaries and he is unable
to do anything about it. "So he opens his throat to sing." This line shows how the bird persevered to get out of his current condition, but no matter
how much he tried no one was able to help him. Due to the fact that he sings he fearful trill. The outcome of his action made the bird feel impotent
because nothing happened to him. Additionally, when an individual believe that he is powerless, it makes him feel like he is living in a sorrowful
life. "His shadow shouts on a nightmare scream." This line demonstrates that the bird is feeling miserable and remorseful because he cannot change
anything about his current situation. This section also shows how the bird feels scared because the line states how he is screaming in a nightmare.

Many have come a long way and used the philosopher's standards as national rights, such as Wollstonecraft's social construct of the sexes having equal

Milton Freidman and Rose Freidman were two economists who met in Chicago, were married in 1938, and continued their careers together as
economists. The two of them firmly held the belief that any government regulation was an infringement on individual freedom. Freidman and
Freidman's minor thesis is that the government in a free society should be entirely limited to the following areas: enforcing law and order, preventing
coercion of one individual by another, enforcing legally binding contracts and rights of private property owners, and providing resources for the
defense and the monetary system. They construct their assertion of government regulation being an infringement on individual rights by generously
providing a multitude of arguments in favor of their political view. They commence by first stating that economic freedom, the freedom consumers
possess to buy and sell whatever they so choose, is a "component of freedom properly understood," (p. 220) and therefore to alter it is to place a curb
on freedom. For example, if the government comes to a decision to pass a law placing a quota on a manufactured good that consumers would have the
aspiration to purchase but are incapable of procuring enough money to purchase said product because its price has been altered to become prohibitive,
the freedom of the individual is henceforth imposed upon. Similarly, if the government forces people to use the government–provided postal service,
then my freedom to set up a competitive business in competition with the government service is curtailed. I only partially agree with this political
view. The government should actively attempt to interfere as little as possible, but not to the extent Freidman and Freidman argue. Countries should
have a free market but also set price caps to forestall price gouging like during Hurricane Irma. In order to protect the people, the people themselves

Self is a person's identity, character, and personality. Self differentiates a person from a population by creating the individual through soul, spirit, and
state of mind. Self is the basis of humanity. In Ayn Rand's Anthem, by the laws of a government based on bettering your brothers (21), the concept of

Rand traps her characters in a totalitarian society of primitive technology to showcase that viewing society as one results in the failure to embrace

I think liberalism sets out the best way to organize society. The liberal ideology originated from intellectuals who had an appreciation for the unique
qualities different humans possess. Liberalism promoted that in a satisfactory society, everyone would have the opportunity to express their musical,
mental, athletic ability or any other talent they had, to it's fullest potential. In terms of liberalism, this removes the factor of being told what to do or
how to act, requiring full responsibility upon ones actions (Shively p. 29). These are the strengths of liberalism because the individuals of a society
are the initial instigators of the ideology showing the promise for success due to demand. Another reason why liberalism is the best way to organize
a society is the acquired responsibility of one's actions, allowing for growth due to feeling the consequences of those actions. All in all, the society as a
whole would benefit from the ability to grow and learn from their mistakes. Although other ideologies such as, conservatives, communitarians and
Marxist, raise valid objections to my claim, I believe the liberal ideology holds the most promise to a structured society.

INTRODUCTION
The principle of freedom of an individual is the core tenet of liberalism. The foundation of liberalism is categorized into three. The first is the freedom
from arbitrary rule, termed "negative freedom" which includes freedom of the press, equality before the law, freedom of conscience and right to
property. The second set of rights ensures the protection and promotion of the capacity and opportunity for freedom, which is called the "positive
freedom." Example of such rights are the social and economic rights to health care, education, gainful employment, for human dignity and participation
in the society. Thirdly, political rights of democratic representation or participation i.e., right to vote or be voted for to ensure that the other two rights
are not infringed on (Kant & Political Philosophy, 1993. p. 173).
Liberalism today could slightly be different with earlier views as a result of changes in time and history however the fundamental tent of liberty and
the ideals of freedom, equality, independence as expressed by Kant remains the same and paramount. Several philosophical views regarding modern
political thought on state of nature, social contract and division of powers has immensely been written by both Locke and Kant in their era.

If we all work together to help people out we can get a lot of ideas put together and do a lot of good for the group. In Canada we are a mostly
collective country especially next to the states. We have universal health care which widely helps out people who wouldn't otherwise be able to see a
doctor or dentist without it.
If the government helps people out then the standard of living would increase. Poverty could be diminished, health problems could be cured, and
people would be able to afford leisurely activities putting money back into the government to help others out. Health care would be free and
widely available to all to use. No having to pay for expensive prescriptions and doctors visits cutting back on the spread of diseases and sick people.
Public property is used and is managed by a collective to benefit everyone in the community. All kids can go to school no matter their parents
financial state giving them a chance to finish and go on to post secondary and get a good paying job. In Saudi Arabia and Sweden schooling is
paid for by the government from kindergarten all the way to post secondary education. It benefits everyone because everyone can go to school
regardless of their wealth. It inspires people to get a good education and a good job. Of course you have to have the marks to get into post secondary
but its paid for. Studies have shown that people living in a collective society have lower crime rates than those who are living in a
