Descartes s Cogito Ergo Sum
During Meditations 2, Descartes establishes a version of his famous cogito ergo sum . He establishes
that despite the fact that we may not know the world around us as well as we think we do, we can
know the mind better and the trusting the mind can lead him to the seemingly justified conclusion that
he exists. Descartes method of arriving at the conclusion is by starting from scratch and considering
whether there could be any ground of doubt for his beliefs. He was a rational philosopher who gave
reason the utmost importance and led him to realise that many of his current beliefs were in fact based
on uncertainty and thus false conclusions. Therefore, in order to avoid this problem and find secure
knowledge of on what he can be certain of, he uses the method of doubting everything that he finds
reason to doubt and consequently, being justified in rejecting the whole. He will: withhold my assent
from matters which are not entirely certain and indubitable than from those which appear to me
manifestly to be false (Descartes 1641: 6) Firstly, Descartes deals with the issue of empiricism the
theory that our knowledge is derived from our sensory experiences. Since we know from everyday
errors that our senses have the ability to deceive us fairly often so making our perceptions to be
something that it is not. For example, there are lots of examples of optical illusions and the fact that
the train tracks may appear to converge from a distance. Consequently, we ought to

The Aftermath Of Hurricane Katrina
1. INTRODUCTION
During the Hurricane Katrina in 2005, even though the National Weather Service (NWS) had
forecasted the storm characteristics information on wind speed, storm surge and rainfall accurately, the
local authorities responded inadequately (Kent, 2006; Basher, 2006). The aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina pumps a series of discussions on emergency responses in a hurricane hazard (e.g., Basher,
2006; Kent, 2006; Kamarck, 2007; Spencer, 2013). Researches draw their attention to this discussion
focused on three questions: (1) who should be in charge (e.g., Kamarck, 2007; Badiru and Racz, 2013;
Barnhill, 2013; Cova et al., in press)? (2) To do what (e.g., Lindell and Perry 1992; Kim et al., 2006;

According to the Protective Action Decision Model (PADM) by Lindell and Perry (1992; 2004; 2012)
which summarized previous researches on public s responses to environmental threats, people would
be made aware of a threat by social warnings, social cues, and environmental cues (Huang, Lindell
Prater, in press a; Lindell, in press), then assess their risk and identify potentials protective actions
(PAs), and ultimately take an appropriate PA (Huang et al., 2012, Huang, Lindell Prater, in press b).
Hence, local authorities, on the one hand, have the responsibilities to carry the PARs to the people
who are at risk (Basher, 2006; Lindell and Perry, 2012), whereas risk area households response efforts,
on the other hand, would rely on the guidance of officials PARs (Baker 1991, 1995; Huang et al. in
press a; Lin et al. 2014). However, households response efforts are often limited by their information
availability (Chen et al., 2007). Consequently, the failure of the delivery of the appropriate PARs in
time would either set those households in danger or push them to follow peers response actions
(Huang et al., 2012; Huang, Lindell Prater, in press a; b). It is a significant gap Cova et al. (in press)
has pointed out that local authorities tend to struggle on PARs selections and the triggers from wait
and see to take immediate action (see also Dye, Eggers, and Shapira, 2014). Nonetheless, there are
very few studies examine the behavior of local

Runway Description Of Runway Lighting
Runway lighting. Runway lighting is composed of several different types of lighting, with specific
colors and positions on the runway, conveying vital information to the pilot during night operations, or
operations during low visibility. Some airports will have Runway End Identifier Lights, which provide
positive identification of the approach end of the runway. These lights are located on each side of the
runway threshold, consist of a pair of synchronized flashing lights, and may be unidirectional facing
the approach area or omnidirectional. Runway Edge Lights are white lights used to mark the edges of
the runway. Used for night or low visibility operations, these lights are classified as high, medium, or
low intensity lights. On instrument runways, amber lights are used on the last half of the runway, or
2,000 feet, whichever is less, with red lights marking the end of the runway. Touchdown Zone Lights
are flush lights that consist of two rows of lights on either side of the runway center line that designate
the desired touchdown area of the runway. Runway Centerline Lights consist of a single row of white
lights, beginning 75 feet from the landing threshold, spaced at 50 foot intervals, and run the length of
the centerline of the runway. Taxiway Turnoff Lights are installed on some precision runways, they
consist of flush lights which emit a steady green color, and designate where taxiways intersect the
runway ( Airport Operations, n.d.). Taxiway lighting. As with

The Consequences And Effects Of Nurse Bullying And Solutions
Effects of Nurse Bullying and Solutions Nurse bullying is a problem within the nursing profession that
continues to be harmful. Nurse bullying is defined as a repeated, offensive, abusive, intimidating, or
insulting behavior, abuse of power, or unfair sanctions that make recipients upset and feel humiliated,
vulnerable or threatened, creating stress and undermining self confidence (Castronovo, Pullizzi,
Evans, 2016). Nurse bullying is not a new problem and impacts nurses, healthcare organizations, and
patients. There has been documented evidence of nurse bullying for the last 100 years and proposed
solutions. The consequences of nurse bullying are immense and effect the victim and the organization.
There have been efforts to address the problem, however bullying continues to be widespread in the
nursing profession.
Issue
Nurse bullying is an important issue in the nursing profession. Bullying contributes to unhealthy and
toxic environments, which in turn contribute to ineffective patient care, increased stress, and decreased
job satisfaction among healthcare providers (Bennett Sawatzky, 2013, p. 144) The personal effects
include anxiety, depression, fatigue, and headaches (Castronovo et al. 2016). Bennett and Sawatzy
(2013) explain that the professional consequences include staff turnover and loss of productivity.
According to Bennett et al. (2013), it is estimated that bullying may cost over $4 billion annually.

Personal Accomplishments Of A Varsity Soccer Team
Everyone has accomplishments, People experience them young, old and all inbetween. A main
accomplishment in my life has been starting for the varsity lacrosse team here at Clackamas High
School. Along with starting on my high school team, as a sophomore, I also was invited to play on
some of the best club teams in Oregon. During these experiences I have grown as a person, began
working harder, and learned you can t always control everything. With determination you can do
anything you set your mind to.
When I was younger, I played lacrosse on the Clackamas Youth Select team. The coach for that team
was the varsity high school coach. So i ve played a few years with him as my coach. I always worked
hard at practice and played 100 percent during my games, so when I graduated eighth grade, I
assumed that I would be on varsity as a freshman, but I was in for a surprise.
The weeks before the season officially started the coach got a bunch of the players together to start
training and getting ready. As a freshman, I didn t think that going to all of those training camps were
necessary. As all the other kids were at the camp getting ready and showing the coaches what they
could do, I was at all the basketball, volleyball and soccer games hanging out with my friends. Come
to find out, that s not how it works.
Luckily, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Along with working hard to make the team I wanted to be on most, once I was on the team, I learned
that I can t always control everything. Being knocked down through the seasons, I have less desire to
continue playing. Tough love would be an understatement on how some of the coaches have treated
fellow athletes and I. Never earning a nice work or good job begins to get frustrating and you get
harder on yourself as an athlete. These challenges have grown me as a person and taught me that I

Justice In The Eumenides
Within The Eumenides by Aeschylus, one of the main themes is Justice. Justice is a virtue perfecting
the will, which enables one to give others their due. Justice involves punishing actions that are wrong
and defending what is right. According to the play, justice is essential for order in society, for everyone
must be given their due. Without justice, there would be a lack of order and peace. In an ordered
society, justice is necessary for everyone must be treated fairly. Regardless of a bad action or crime a
person commits, they must receive a fair trial. Within the Bill of Rights of the United States
Constitution, the sixth amendment states that one has a right to a speedy, public, and impartial trial by
jury. Within The Eumenides, Athene is the voice ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She picks her wisest citizens to be the jury and to take the matters into their own hands with honesty.
After the trial has been summoned and the 12 Athenian citizens have been brought forth, Athene says
let citizens /
And jurors all in silence recognize this court / Which I ordain today in Perpetuity / That now and
always justice may be well discerned (571 574). This quote exemplifies the importance of justice in
society. It displays how justice must always be recognized in a matter of life or death. Within the trial,
Orestes says that it was Apollo s oracle that commanded him to kill his mother. Ultimately, justice
prevails, for Orestes is acquitted. One can conclude that it would not be just to punish Orestes because
he was advised by Apollo to kill his mother. Justice is essential, for with a lack of justice, chaos would
be brought about in society. In The Eumenides, the Furies value justice without truly being just.
Throughout the play, the Furies, protectors of the law, pursue Orestes because of the crime he has
committed. They yearn to trace him by his

Exchange Rate Volatility Measure And Relative Price
3.2 Exchange Rate Volatility measure and relative price An important issue in this topic is how to
choose the appropriate technique to estimate the exchange rate volatility. However, wide variety of
measures have been discussing in the literature, but there is no right or wrong measure of exchange
rate volatility. Mckenzie (1999) provides a brief over view of different methods to measure exchange
rate volatility, such average absolute difference between the previous forward and current spot rate,
variance of the spot exchange rate around its trend, absolute percentage change of the exchange rate
and the moving average of the standard deviation of the exchange rate. A moving standard deviation
of nominal or real exchange rate seems to be the most commonly used method in the empirical
literature. Hence, we will construct the moving average standard deviation of the monthly real
exchange rate volatility with the same spirit as Serenis and Tsounis (2014) and a moving standard
deviation of real exchange rate can be expressed as:
Where R_t is logarithm of nominal or real exchange rate and m is the number of periods which can be
range from 4 to 12.In this paper, we will use the moving average of the standard deviation of exchange
rate as the measure of exchange rate volatility by using the real exchange rate and the order m is set to
be 12. Koray and Lastrepes (1989) have shown that the moving average of the standard deviation of
the exchange rate captures the variation in the

Aristotle s Poetic In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Aristotle was a famous disciple of Plato who first defines fine arts and he differs with his teacher Plato
in his book of Poetic. His Poetic deals with the principles of Poetic art in general and tragedy in
particular on the basis of his analysis and the principles of his Poetic are Probability, Catharsis,
Mimesis, Tragic Hero and Hamartia. This essay will explain tragedy looking through Aristotle s tragic
principles in the book Things fall Apart by Chinua Achebe. In Aristotle s Poetic, he has mentioned the
concept of Probability which simply explains the probability that a given character will react to a
given situation is very high because of human nature. For instance in the book, Things fall Apart deals

hero is a man who is not eminently good and just, yet whose misfortune is bought about not by voice,
but by the some error of judgement (Aristotle, 1978). The misfortune of such a man will lead to

The Earth And The Stars
Throughout the history of the human species people have looked up at the stars and wondered. Each
individual culture, past and present, has stories and myths concerning the various features of the night
sky and the constantly moving celestial objects which reside there. There are creation stories which try
to explain where the Earth and the numerous stars came from. There are other stories whcih take on a
less grand task and only try to explain a single celestial object. Some believe that the stars and the
Earth are intertwined and the motions or strange appearances of objects directly relate to what is
happening on the Earth.
There are also beliefs that the stars and night sky are the Heavens viewable from Earth, where
everything must be perfect. If things were not perfect in the Heavens, such as a new star appearing in
the sky due to a supernova occurring light years away, some cultures would take this as a bad omen. In
ancient China for example, the Emperor was responsible for what happened on Earth as well as what
happened in the Heavens, so if a new star appeared unannounced then a competing group vying for
control could use that change to try to alter the existing balance of power. In other places such as
medieval Europe even suggesting the Heavens were not perfect could land someone under arrested
from, at the time, all powerful Catholic Church. Such was the case with Galileo after his public
support of the idea that the Earth moved around the Sun and not the other

The Meaning Of The Movie Maleficent And Sleeping Beauty
Maleficent VS Sleeping Beauty
Throughout many years fairy tales have changed from warnings and nightmares to life goals and
bedtime stories. The movie Maleficent is a modern day retelling for the story Sleeping Beauty. In
Maleficent there is a fairy named Maleficent who falls in love with a boy who later breaks her heart
and has a baby with another woman. When Maleficent finds out he has had a child, she curses the
baby girl so she will prick her finger on her 16th birthday, causing her to fall into a death like sleep
that only true love s kiss will wake her from. Maleficent sneakily watches over the child until her 16th
birthday and loves her like her own child. When the 16 year old girl pricks her finger the kiss from her
prince does not wake her, but Maleficent s kiss goodbye does. In the movie a lot of special effects are
used when Maleficent is using magic or flying, and it is also used when the other magical creatures are
in any scene. The music used throughout the movie sets the tone of what is happening and shows
emotion. Many of the costumes used are similar to Disney s movie of Sleeping Beauty like Maleficent
s all black outfit and horns. The movie Maleficent is a good retelling of the story Sleeping Beauty
because of the special effects, music, and costumes used within the film.
Special effects play a large role in movies now a days to better the quality and understanding of the
movie. In Maleficent special effects are used greatly when Maleficent is flying. When

Relational Database Analysis
Relational database normalization is the process of decomposing relations with anomalies to produce
well structured relations. This paper delves into relational database normalization giving the reason
why a database schema in third normal form is considered to be of higher quality than an un
normalized database schema.
Relational database normalization entails organizing database and it includes the creation of tables as
well as relationships establishment between the tables using designed rules intended to protect the data
as well as make the database to be flexible. This is achieved through the elimination of redundancy as
well as inconsistent dependency. Redundant data is known to waste the space of the disk thereby
creating problems of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this second normal form level, deficiencies which are transitive are removed. Third normal form
satisfies the condition which requires that the relation to be in the second normal form. Another
condition that it full is that it must not have transitive dependencies within the relations in the
database. Transitive dependency occurs if an attribute is found to be functionally dependent on the key
in an indirect manner. In this level, remaining functional dependency anomalies is removed. Boyce
Codd Normal requires that the relation to be in third normal form and that every determinant is
supposed to be a candidate key. In this level, multi valued dependencies are removed. A relation is in
fourth normal form is it has a composite key and its key attributes have no multi valued dependencies.
In the fourth normal form, the remaining anomalies are removed. Fifth normal form is a generalization
of the fourth normal form. It states that if a relation can be decomposed into the lossless join of several
relations, then it should be so decomposed. The fifth normal form concerns dependencies that are
obscure (Colomb, R. (2003)
A database schema in third normal form is considered to be of higher quality than an un normalized
database schema because the third normal form ensures that

Iganga Nursing Literature Review
Our findings indicated that health workers perceived reviews as part of continuous quality
improvement that emanated from the general routine work and cultural environment within the
hospital. We think this contributed to a continuous MPDR practice within the hospital despite of the
challenges faced.
It was revealed in other studies that the most successful reviews were characterized by three
interdependent, supportive cultural factors which are supportive health professionals, supportive
institutional culture and supportive political and policy environment14. It was also revealed that the
perceptions held by the health workers about MPDRs also varied from one study to another. The
perceptions held by health workers in Thyolo, Malawi were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There was also no feedback and follow up from higher levels (national and district) hence there was
no systematic mechanism for follow up of recommendations. This is similar for the study findings that
investigated the MPDR system in Tanzania which was a major barrier to effective MPDR6,20,23.
Most respondents reported that MPDR was important in improving their professional practice and
ethical code of conduct. However, it is difficult to ascertain the weight of each activity in the
improvement of care16,27.
Our findings revealed that mentorships greatly supported health workers conduct reviews. This is not
revealed in other studies as a strategy for supporting health workers realize effective reviews in
Thyolo District of Malawi, Ifakara in Tanzania and Senegal 8,11 23.The health workers revealed that
the reviews helped them to improve the quality of care which in other studies quality of care is not
easily measured and effect takes a long time where mistakes are repeatedly done16,25,27. Health
workers desire to change but the context of implementation has to count16, 26. In Uganda, it was
reported that some of the maternal death within hospitals happened at a time of staff handover or
change in work shifts19,27.
Supportive health professionals: doctors, midwives and nurses make all the difference between the
success and failure of reviews 14,21.Success also depends on accountability of both care providers

Essay about Voltaire s Candide
Voltaire s Candide
Voltaire s masterpiece has been read delightfully and with much interest by many people since its
scarcely secret publication in Geneva and Paris (1759). When it was first published, there were about
twenty copies, most of which were pirated. When Voltaire died (1778) there were already more than
fifty, and later on it became the best seller of the eighteenth century.
It is true that the local conditions have changed since Candide was written. English admirals are not
shot any more as a lesson in military perseverance. Jesuits are no longer meal to any tribe in South
America, and people do not get cut into pieces when they try to escape from slavery, or at least not as
much. But within our own circumstances and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voltaire s Candide is a pretty accurate book in describing how humans manage to keep piling up
excrements since the beggining of times, and this could be solved. Voltaire called this pile of
excrement I was referring to avoidable suffering, and the excrement itself it would be human evilness.
In this book Voltaire exposes the world from mans point of view, excluding God and the supernatural
from any possibility of intervening in humans fate or actions. By this Voltaire based his book on the
assumption of humans free will and only responsible for their actions and accomplishments. He was
excluding from this the natural disasters, but he still did not blame those on the supernatural. Whether
the world is good or bad, it is us humans that make it that way. In this matter Voltaire agreed with his
enemy Rousseau: men, all misfortunes come from you .
Candide is the story of a man whose naive soul is born in a world governed by evil and injustice. With
experience as his only teacher, reason as his only hope, and action as the only and ultimate solution,
this man has to find his place in a world that is made for nobody and in which happiness seems
impossible to reach.
Reality is bad, but the denial of it is even worst . This is one of the most important themes that Voltaire
included in his masterpiece. There are two actors that play these roles in the story. A world filled with
catastrophes, sometimes natural, but most man made

Columbine And Sandy Hook Pop Up
When thinking about school shootings names like Columbine and Sandy Hook pop up. Those are the
most tragic by far, however everyone always ask why such a horrible crime happens, but no one has
never stopped and researched why such hate crimes like those happen. Instead people resort to
Channel 2 or Fox 5 for answers, not realizing that their story isn t the full truth. I am truly against
school shootings; looking for answers myself. If there s one thing I ve picked up from the media is
how they portray school shootings with mental illness, but according to Alfred.edu/teen violence says,
They want to get back at those who hurt them or revenge. Many adults always struggled to realize
why things as vigorous as shootings happens; also fail to realize they are the start of something so
tragic. There are several reasons that lead to a school shooting but only five are common. Revenge as
Justin Nutt states, Is pure hatred showed to relieve stress. (Nutt, J. Dec 14). Many articles tend to base
their beliefs over school shootings on revenge, because of the age and choice of a crime. These crimes
are not random; are particularly committed by an older age male seeking to let go of some type of
stress. You can even use the Florida State shooting in 2014 as an example, The FSU shooter was
dealing with emotional and physiological problems. (Rossman, S., Etters, K.) The student was a
former FSU graduate who was attending law school at Texas Tech University; was staying with a

South Africa and the AIDS Crisis
The AIDS crisis has been a very controversial issue in the history of South Africa beginning in 1982.
During this time South Africa has made a government transition from apartheid to a democracy. Since
many national issues needed to be address, the AIDS crisis was pushed aside, leaving a pandemic in
the process. Many factors have contributed to the issues including: poverty, social instability, high
levels of sexually transmitted infections, the low status of women, sexual violence, migrant labor,
limited access to quality medical care, and a history of poor leadership in the response to the
pandemic. After three decades of controversy in South Africa dealing with issues involving the
government, medicine, and conflict the country is still feeling the after effect today regarding the
largest AIDS pandemic.
In 1982 the first case of AIDS in South Africa was diagnosed in a homosexual white man who was
believed to contract the disease while in California. Later that year two hundred and fifty random
blood samples were taken from homosexual men living in Johannesburg, the virus infected 12.8% of
the men. When AIDs was first diagnosed, many Africans believed it was only a disease for
homosexuals and drug addicts, this did not prove to be the case. The first death of a South African
with AIDS occurred in 1985, while the apartheid government was under the control of President P.W.

The NFL was founded on September 17, 1920 and was known as the American Professional Football

that form the league now. The original teams are: Canton Bulldogs, Cleveland Tigers, Dayton

A salary cap is designed to keep player salaries from increasing at the rate they were at the time. The
salary cap is basically a set amount of money that each of the NFL s 32 teams is allowed to spend on
player salaries for any given year. Since salaries have continued to grow at a rate outpacing the salary
cap, teams have found ways to get around the cap. One way is signing bonuses, which don t count
toward a team s cap for a given year. A player who receives a signing bonus gets more money for that
year than his recorded salary, this way it leaves more room in the cap for the other players. The
advantage for the player is that all signing bonus money is guaranteed to be paid, whereas an NFL
contract is not guaranteed. All players receive a minimum base salary. The base salary is the value
according to his contract. The cap value represents the player s calculated signing bonus, plus salary
and other bonuses for the season.
The 8 year media deals that the NFL did with ABC, CBS, FOX, ESPN, and Direct TV in January 1998
are worth $17.6 billion. It has fewer games than any other professional sport, but takes in the most
money by far. To ABC, broadcasting Monday Night Football for eight seasons was worth $4.4 billion
($550 million per year). CBS agreed to pay $4 billion ($500 million per season) for exclusive rights to
AFC games. FOX also agreed $4.4 billion for the right of NFC games. ESPN agreed to pay $4.8

Hodgkin s Lymphoma Case Study
The disease that I chose is Nodular Lymphocyte Predominant Hodgkin s lymphoma (NLPHL), a type
of cancer, but specifically a type of Hodgkin s lymphoma. I have chosen this because a year ago I was
battling it. One day I was a normal teenager and the next, I was getting to know the Hematology
Oncology clinic that I d be spending a numerous amount of days in. Hodgkin s lymphoma can affect
anyone, all the way from a baby to a 114 year old lady. But NLPHL usually affects 30 40 year old
men, which I am neither. To say my diagnosis was a surprise would be an understatement. I had some

The chemo regimen ABVD is often used as a treatment for general Hodgkin s lymphoma, so I had that

NLPHL, since it s a very small portion of Hodgkin lymphoma and not usually seen in teens, let alone
female ones. The downside to treatment is the terrible side effects that most, but not all people get. For
chemo they are, but not limited to, hair loss, mouth sores, nausea, diarrhea and fatigue. And for

National University Threat Analysis Report Sample
National University Threat Analysis Report The following report is a deep analysis the threat known
as CVE 2017 11292; as mentioned in the previous threat analysis report summarizing three current
threats. The purpose of the report is to notify National University of the harm that may be caused by
CVE 2017 11292 and provide mitigations and solutions. CVE 2017 11292 Kaspersky has discovered
on October 10, 2017, an Adobe Flash zero day exploit. Adobe assigned it CVE 2017 11292. The
payload is delivered, most commonly by a socially engineered email, through a Microsoft Office
document. Embedded within the document is an ActiveX object which contains the Flash exploit as
shown in the image below. (GReAT, 2017) The Flash object contains an ActionScript which is
responsible for extracting the exploit using a custom packer. This custom packer has been seen in
other FinSpy exploits, according to Kaspersky. The main exploit is a memory corruption vulnerability
that is within the com.adobe.tvsdk.mediacore.BufferControlParameters class. If successful, attackers
will gain read / write operations within memory; which is only stage one of the attack. ... Show more

malware which is normally sold to law enforcement for surveillance. This newer variant has made it
especially difficult for researchers to analyze the malware due to many added anti analysis techniques,
to include a custom packer and virtual machine to execute code. (GReAT, 2017) Once the payload is
started, it will copy files to these locations: C:ProgramDataManagerAppAdapterTroubleshooter.exe

The Importance Of Geographic Literacy
Geography, it s not just maps and knowing about landforms. Geography is about a who, what, where,
why and how. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about
understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that, While
the impacts of any particular far reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of the
decisions made by millions of people are enormous. ( What is Geo literacy? 2012) Geography is
something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is happening around
them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will know the
consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in schools
throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the basic
geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about
geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young
adults making them geo illiterate.
Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding
human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a geo
literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the Earth is
interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long lasting effects. They should also
able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their interactions and the impact
it puts on our environment. (2012) Another way to describe Geographic Literacy would mean to be
better equipped to better understand the complexity of the world, how our decisions affect others, and
the interconnectedness of this rich, diverse, and not so large world. It means that one should know
what the effects are of the decisions we make daily. (Baskerville, Brian) Regardless of if the decision
is where to live or
Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime that
requires geo literacy. ( What is Geo Literacy? ) Whether these decisions are riding a bike or driving a
car, using plastic bags versus

Femme False Body
The fragmented femme fatale body that is, the isolated parts of the mysterious and threatening female
body is a pervasive element of Antigone by Sophocles and Antigona Furiosa by Griselda Gambaro. In
fact, from a symbolic point of view, almost every scene contains a detailed aspect of the femme fatale
body some enigmatic, others clear cut that serves to strengthen the meaning of the political and social
issues Sophocles and Gambaro raise. Sophocles, a prominent Greek tragedian, wrote plays that
demand an exploratory inquiry of the ways characters speak and the distinct expressiveness of their
individual idiosyncrasies and, significantly, feelings (Bowra 385). Equally important, Gambaro is an
Argentinian writer, either admired or deeply disliked, as a result of her radical decision to place the
femme fatale body on the Argentinian stage and recover bodies and memorialize them (Pottlitzer 103).

In this way, because Sophocles version of the femme fatale s tragic demise is rather bleak and,
perhaps, overlooked, Gambaro s innovative revision and bold portrait of the femme fatale, whether
she is seriously wounded or uncontrollably angry, suggests that the corporeality of the twentieth
century femme fatale testifies to the vitality and imaginative freedom with which patriarchs, such as
Creon, associate womanhood with the otherworldly of character. This essay primarily engages in a
contextualization of Sophocles femme fatale and Gambaro s femme fatale by analyzing the symbolic
function of the femme fatales and, importantly, their body

Judaism s Views On Euthanasia
Death is one of the most important topics that religions cope with. Since religion deals
with matters of life, death, meaning and virtue, it is not shocking that, for countless people,
religious convictions are the core reasoning for their outlook on euthanasia. Euthanasia is
defined as the mode or act of inducing death painlessly or as a relief for pain. Although there
are different components that play a part in a person s stance on euthanasia, like empathy,
suffering, constitutional rights, etc., this paper will concentrate on the religious aspects of the
topic.
Judaism and Christianity share an abundance of theological similarities. Religious ethicists from
these observances employ individual religious methodologies when seeking to
settle ethical predicaments. In aiming to illuminate their religion s viewpoints on topics of
medical ethics, Jewish and Christian ethicists frequently appeal to text, religious doctrine and
tradition. In addition, religious ethicists use self determination and examination when making
ethical conclusions. Regardless of the modernized secular world we live in today, religious
stances on euthanasia are irrefutably vital considering that religion and medicine are prominent
social forces in society.
What does Judaism teach about euthanasia? Euthanasia, along with other forms of
suicide, are denounced in Jewish thought, mostly because it is conceived as taking a
human life that belongs to G d. Jewish sources view

Example Of Prospect Theory
Prospect theory is a theory of decision making under conditions of risk. The theory is best known for
its hypothesis that individuals are risk averse with respect to gains and risk acceptant with respect to
losses and for its emphasis on the importance of the actor s framing of decisions around a reference
point.
Prospect theory is one of a number of alternative theories of individual choice that behavioral decision
theorists have constructed in an attempt to integrate observed anomalies in expected utility theory into
a more descriptively accurate theory of choice using an S shaped value function. The S function curve
of the value is derived from the experimental results and lacks a complete theoretical explanation. But

Prospect theory is considered substantive rationality rather than procedural rationality. Substantive
rationality is the optimization of a given goal under given conditions and constraints, and is a function
of goals and situational constraints but not intervening reasoning process. While procedural rationality
focuses on the decision making process. Therefore, the prospect theory cannot be adapted to the
cognitive rational debate . The evaluation stage in the prospect theory is more similar to the rational
economic theory. But it is the theory editing and framing have more in common with cognitive
process theories. To conclude, the prospect theory research program is a limitation of the theory but
not a fatal flaw.
Shortcomings of Prospect Theory
a) The descriptive generalizations on which prospect theory is based emerge from static conditions of
experimental research in highly structured, non interactive laboratory settings make it difficult to
extrapolate its findings to the complex world of international relations where the consequences of one
s actions are partially a function of the actions of another.
1) It is extremely difficult in the real world to identify whether an actor selects a particular option
because of framing, loss aversion, or any other anomalies of expected utility

Training Day Essay
Among the array of cop movies out, there is one that has continued to stand out above the rest:
Training Day. Although it made its debut some time ago it became an instant award winning cop film.
Training day is a crime thriller film that follows Los Angeles Police Officer Jake Hoyt s first 24 hours
in training with the veteran, corrupt, Narcotics Detective Alonzo Harris. The film takes place on the
streets as Detective Harris shows Officer Hoyt s what a day in the life of a narcotics detective really
looks like. When it comes to cop movies, Training Day stands out above the rest with its array of
characters, crime thriller plot, urban street setting, and a lawless street justice theme. Although both of
the films main characters are police ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In many cop movies it is easy to distinguish the good from the evil but in this film it all depends on
what your definition of good is. The film is a journey deep within the LAPD s narcotics division and
exposes the darker side of law enforcement. For example, in one of the first scenes Detective Harris
tells Officer Hoyt that a good narcotics detective should have narcotics in their system and pressures
him smoke illicit drugs. Consequently, when Officer Hoyt refuses Detective Harris points a gun at him
and tells him if they were on the streets a drug dealer would have killed him, and tells him he doesn t
want him in his division. Officer Hoyt gives in to Detective Harris telling him he will do anything he
wants him to do and smokes the illicit drugs. Officer Hoyt in complete disbelief after just smoking
illicit drugs goes into culture shock when he begins to see that it was just an ordinary part of being in
narcotics. In a following scene Officer Hoyt states that it couldn t be true that all this corruption is part
of being in the narcotics division and Detective Harris responds that that s the only way to get the job
done. These first few scenes set the tone for how Detective Harris works with little disregard for the
laws he swore to uphold and make it difficult through the film to determine who really are the bad

America Stands At A Crossroads
America stands at a crossroads. The Fascists in Europe and the Imperialists in Japan threaten the very
foundation of our nation. Our troops fight valiantly to beat back these enemies who seek to encroach
upon our values of freedom and equality. Yet, in the background, a domestic war wages on. Of course,
I refer to the plight of Negro Americans against Jim Crow. Our political leaders constantly request the
patience of Negro promising change is right around the corner. However, many have come to
understand the emptiness of these words. If change will not come from the top then it must come from
the people, and it begins with the integration of baseball. Why baseball? you may ask. It is because
baseball is the quintessential mark of being an American. European immigrants, who are often
different from native born Americans in terms of language and religion, have been able to integrate
into American life simply by playing or being fans of the sport. The connections formed on the field
and in the stands have given native born Americans and immigrants an opportunity to connect, to
understand, and to respect one another. This pattern of understanding and respect coming through
association has been seen elsewhere as well. I remember how Negroes and Whites worked alongside
one another in New York during the Great War. It was undoubtedly a rough transition, yet because of
firm management, very few problems arose as I recall, not a single hate strike occurred during that
time.

Gordie Stand By Me
Stand by Me is a heart strung movie that begins with the main character Gordie, as middle aged man.
While sitting in a pickup truck on the side of the road lost in thought, he glances to the seat next to
him about an article that a man was fatally stabbed in a restaurant trying to break up an argument. As
two boys slowly ride past the truck and into the distance, Gordie recounts a tragic experience of death
that he had when he was younger which ties both the past and present together. He recounts a story
about how he and his three friends Vern, Chris, and Teddy, learned about a dead body found by Vern s
brother at the railroad tracks. The body, presumably a missing boy named Ray Brower , whom the
state was still searching for, would make

The History Of The Irs
The History of the IRS
The IRS has a long history of enforcing various form of taxes and a variety of regulation in the United
States of America. In fact, federal agencies such as the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms
began as part of the IRS before separation onto its own agency. Below is a brief timeline of the origins
of the IRS and subsequent events that transformed it into the agency it is today:
1862 President Lincoln signed into law a revenue raising measure to help pay for Civil War expenses.
The measure created a Commissioner of Internal Revenue and the nation s first income tax (Internal
Revenue Service, 2013).
1913 Wyoming ratified the 16th Amendment, providing the three quarter majority of states necessary
to amend the Constitution. The 16th Amendment gave Congress the authority to enact an income tax
(Internal Revenue Service, 2013).
1919 The states ratified the 18th Amendment, barring the manufacture, sale or transport of
intoxicating beverages. Congress passed the Volstead Act, which gave the Commissioner of Internal
Revenue the primary responsibility for enforcement of Prohibition (Internal Revenue Service, 2013)
1944 Congress passed the Individual Income Tax Act, which created the standard deductions on Form
1040 (Internal Revenue Service, 2013).
1972 The Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Division separated from the IRS to become the independent
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (Internal Revenue Service, 2013).
1998 Congress passed

  • 3. Descartes s Cogito Ergo Sum During Meditations 2, Descartes establishes a version of his famous cogito ergo sum . He establishes that despite the fact that we may not know the world around us as well as we think we do, we can know the mind better and the trusting the mind can lead him to the seemingly justified conclusion that he exists. Descartes method of arriving at the conclusion is by starting from scratch and considering whether there could be any ground of doubt for his beliefs. He was a rational philosopher who gave reason the utmost importance and led him to realise that many of his current beliefs were in fact based on uncertainty and thus false conclusions. Therefore, in order to avoid this problem and find secure knowledge of on what he can be certain of, he uses the method of doubting everything that he finds reason to doubt and consequently, being justified in rejecting the whole. He will: withhold my assent from matters which are not entirely certain and indubitable than from those which appear to me manifestly to be false (Descartes 1641: 6) Firstly, Descartes deals with the issue of empiricism the theory that our knowledge is derived from our sensory experiences. Since we know from everyday errors that our senses have the ability to deceive us fairly often so making our perceptions to be something that it is not. For example, there are lots of examples of optical illusions and the fact that the train tracks may appear to converge from a distance. Consequently, we ought to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Aftermath Of Hurricane Katrina 1. INTRODUCTION During the Hurricane Katrina in 2005, even though the National Weather Service (NWS) had forecasted the storm characteristics information on wind speed, storm surge and rainfall accurately, the local authorities responded inadequately (Kent, 2006; Basher, 2006). The aftermath of Hurricane Katrina pumps a series of discussions on emergency responses in a hurricane hazard (e.g., Basher, 2006; Kent, 2006; Kamarck, 2007; Spencer, 2013). Researches draw their attention to this discussion focused on three questions: (1) who should be in charge (e.g., Kamarck, 2007; Badiru and Racz, 2013; Barnhill, 2013; Cova et al., in press)? (2) To do what (e.g., Lindell and Perry 1992; Kim et al., 2006; Wu, Lindell Prater, 2015; Cova et al., ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the Protective Action Decision Model (PADM) by Lindell and Perry (1992; 2004; 2012) which summarized previous researches on public s responses to environmental threats, people would be made aware of a threat by social warnings, social cues, and environmental cues (Huang, Lindell Prater, in press a; Lindell, in press), then assess their risk and identify potentials protective actions (PAs), and ultimately take an appropriate PA (Huang et al., 2012, Huang, Lindell Prater, in press b). Hence, local authorities, on the one hand, have the responsibilities to carry the PARs to the people who are at risk (Basher, 2006; Lindell and Perry, 2012), whereas risk area households response efforts, on the other hand, would rely on the guidance of officials PARs (Baker 1991, 1995; Huang et al. in press a; Lin et al. 2014). However, households response efforts are often limited by their information availability (Chen et al., 2007). Consequently, the failure of the delivery of the appropriate PARs in time would either set those households in danger or push them to follow peers response actions (Huang et al., 2012; Huang, Lindell Prater, in press a; b). It is a significant gap Cova et al. (in press) has pointed out that local authorities tend to struggle on PARs selections and the triggers from wait and see to take immediate action (see also Dye, Eggers, and Shapira, 2014). • 5. Runway Description Of Runway Lighting Runway lighting. Runway lighting is composed of several different types of lighting, with specific colors and positions on the runway, conveying vital information to the pilot during night operations, or operations during low visibility. Some airports will have Runway End Identifier Lights, which provide positive identification of the approach end of the runway. These lights are located on each side of the runway threshold, consist of a pair of synchronized flashing lights, and may be unidirectional facing the approach area or omnidirectional. Runway Edge Lights are white lights used to mark the edges of the runway. Used for night or low visibility operations, these lights are classified as high, medium, or low intensity lights. On instrument runways, amber lights are used on the last half of the runway, or 2,000 feet, whichever is less, with red lights marking the end of the runway. Touchdown Zone Lights are flush lights that consist of two rows of lights on either side of the runway center line that designate the desired touchdown area of the runway. Runway Centerline Lights consist of a single row of white lights, beginning 75 feet from the landing threshold, spaced at 50 foot intervals, and run the length of the centerline of the runway. Taxiway Turnoff Lights are installed on some precision runways, they consist of flush lights which emit a steady green color, and designate where taxiways intersect the runway ( Airport Operations, n.d.). A main accomplishment in my life has been starting for the varsity lacrosse team here at Clackamas High School. Along with starting on my high school team, as a sophomore, I also was invited to play on some of the best club teams in Oregon. During these experiences I have grown as a person, began working harder, and learned you can t always control everything. With determination you can do anything you set your mind to. When I was younger, I played lacrosse on the Clackamas Youth Select team. The coach for that team was the varsity high school coach. So i ve played a few years with him as my coach. I always worked hard at practice and played 100 percent during my games, so when I graduated eighth grade, I assumed that I would be on varsity as a freshman, but I was in for a surprise. The weeks before the season officially started the coach got a bunch of the players together to start training and getting ready. As a freshman, I didn t think that going to all of those training camps were necessary. • 8. Justice In The Eumenides Within The Eumenides by Aeschylus, one of the main themes is Justice. Justice is a virtue perfecting the will, which enables one to give others their due. Justice involves punishing actions that are wrong and defending what is right. According to the play, justice is essential for order in society, for everyone must be given their due. Without justice, there would be a lack of order and peace. In an ordered society, justice is necessary for everyone must be treated fairly. Regardless of a bad action or crime a person commits, they must receive a fair trial. This quote exemplifies the importance of justice in society. It displays how justice must always be recognized in a matter of life or death. Within the trial, Orestes says that it was Apollo s oracle that commanded him to kill his mother. Ultimately, justice prevails, for Orestes is acquitted. One can conclude that it would not be just to punish Orestes because he was advised by Apollo to kill his mother. Justice is essential, for with a lack of justice, chaos would be brought about in society. In The Eumenides, the Furies value justice without truly being just. • 9. Exchange Rate Volatility Measure And Relative Price 3.2 Exchange Rate Volatility measure and relative price An important issue in this topic is how to choose the appropriate technique to estimate the exchange rate volatility. However, wide variety of measures have been discussing in the literature, but there is no right or wrong measure of exchange rate volatility. Mckenzie (1999) provides a brief over view of different methods to measure exchange rate volatility, such average absolute difference between the previous forward and current spot rate, variance of the spot exchange rate around its trend, absolute percentage change of the exchange rate and the moving average of the standard deviation of the exchange rate. A moving standard deviation of nominal or real exchange rate seems to be the most commonly used method in the empirical literature. Hence, we will construct the moving average standard deviation of the monthly real exchange rate volatility with the same spirit as Serenis and Tsounis (2014) and a moving standard deviation of real exchange rate can be expressed as: Where R_t is logarithm of nominal or real exchange rate and m is the number of periods which can be range from 4 to 12.In this paper, we will use the moving average of the standard deviation of exchange rate as the measure of exchange rate volatility by using the real exchange rate and the order m is set to be 12. Koray and Lastrepes (1989) have shown that the moving average of the standard deviation of the exchange rate captures the variation in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Earth And The Stars Throughout the history of the human species people have looked up at the stars and wondered. Each individual culture, past and present, has stories and myths concerning the various features of the night sky and the constantly moving celestial objects which reside there. There are creation stories which try to explain where the Earth and the numerous stars came from. There are other stories whcih take on a less grand task and only try to explain a single celestial object. Some believe that the stars and the Earth are intertwined and the motions or strange appearances of objects directly relate to what is happening on the Earth. There are also beliefs that the stars and night sky are the Heavens viewable from Earth, where everything must be perfect. If things were not perfect in the Heavens, such as a new star appearing in the sky due to a supernova occurring light years away, some cultures would take this as a bad omen. In ancient China for example, the Emperor was responsible for what happened on Earth as well as what happened in the Heavens, so if a new star appeared unannounced then a competing group vying for control could use that change to try to alter the existing balance of power. In other places such as medieval Europe even suggesting the Heavens were not perfect could land someone under arrested from, at the time, all powerful Catholic Church. • 12. The Meaning Of The Movie Maleficent And Sleeping Beauty Maleficent VS Sleeping Beauty Throughout many years fairy tales have changed from warnings and nightmares to life goals and bedtime stories. The movie Maleficent is a modern day retelling for the story Sleeping Beauty. In Maleficent there is a fairy named Maleficent who falls in love with a boy who later breaks her heart and has a baby with another woman. When Maleficent finds out he has had a child, she curses the baby girl so she will prick her finger on her 16th birthday, causing her to fall into a death like sleep that only true love s kiss will wake her from. Maleficent sneakily watches over the child until her 16th birthday and loves her like her own child. When the 16 year old girl pricks her finger the kiss from her prince does not wake her, but Maleficent s kiss goodbye does. In the movie a lot of special effects are used when Maleficent is using magic or flying, and it is also used when the other magical creatures are in any scene. The music used throughout the movie sets the tone of what is happening and shows emotion. Many of the costumes used are similar to Disney s movie of Sleeping Beauty like Maleficent s all black outfit and horns. The movie Maleficent is a good retelling of the story Sleeping Beauty because of the special effects, music, and costumes used within the film. Special effects play a large role in movies now a days to better the quality and understanding of the movie. In Maleficent special effects are used greatly when Maleficent is flying. When ... This paper delves into relational database normalization giving the reason why a database schema in third normal form is considered to be of higher quality than an un normalized database schema. Relational database normalization entails organizing database and it includes the creation of tables as well as relationships establishment between the tables using designed rules intended to protect the data as well as make the database to be flexible. Iganga Nursing Literature Review Our findings indicated that health workers perceived reviews as part of continuous quality improvement that emanated from the general routine work and cultural environment within the hospital. We think this contributed to a continuous MPDR practice within the hospital despite of the challenges faced. • 15. Essay about Voltaire s Candide Voltaire s Candide Voltaire s masterpiece has been read delightfully and with much interest by many people since its scarcely secret publication in Geneva and Paris (1759). When it was first published, there were about twenty copies, most of which were pirated. When Voltaire died (1778) there were already more than fifty, and later on it became the best seller of the eighteenth century. It is true that the local conditions have changed since Candide was written. English admirals are not shot any more as a lesson in military perseverance. Jesuits are no longer meal to any tribe in South America, and people do not get cut into pieces when they try to escape from slavery, or at least not as much. But within our own circumstances and ... Voltaire s Candide is a pretty accurate book in describing how humans manage to keep piling up excrements since the beggining of times, and this could be solved. Voltaire called this pile of excrement I was referring to avoidable suffering, and the excrement itself it would be human evilness. In this book Voltaire exposes the world from mans point of view, excluding God and the supernatural from any possibility of intervening in humans fate or actions. By this Voltaire based his book on the assumption of humans free will and only responsible for their actions and accomplishments. He was excluding from this the natural disasters, but he still did not blame those on the supernatural. Whether the world is good or bad, it is us humans that make it that way. In this matter Voltaire agreed with his enemy Rousseau: men, all misfortunes come from you . Candide is the story of a man whose naive soul is born in a world governed by evil and injustice. With experience as his only teacher, reason as his only hope, and action as the only and ultimate solution, this man has to find his place in a world that is made for nobody and in which happiness seems impossible to reach. Reality is bad, but the denial of it is even worst . This is one of the most important themes that Voltaire included in his masterpiece. There are two actors that play these roles in the story. Those are the most tragic by far, however everyone always ask why such a horrible crime happens, but no one has never stopped and researched why such hate crimes like those happen. Instead people resort to Channel 2 or Fox 5 for answers, not realizing that their story isn t the full truth. I am truly against school shootings; looking for answers myself. If there s one thing I ve picked up from the media is how they portray school shootings with mental illness, but according to Alfred.edu/teen violence says, They want to get back at those who hurt them or revenge. Many adults always struggled to realize why things as vigorous as shootings happens; also fail to realize they are the start of something so tragic. There are several reasons that lead to a school shooting but only five are common. Revenge as Justin Nutt states, Is pure hatred showed to relieve stress. (Nutt, J. Dec 14). Many articles tend to base their beliefs over school shootings on revenge, because of the age and choice of a crime. These crimes are not random; are particularly committed by an older age male seeking to let go of some type of stress. You can even use the Florida State shooting in 2014 as an example, The FSU shooter was dealing with emotional and physiological problems. (Rossman, S., Etters, K.) • 18. South Africa and the AIDS Crisis The AIDS crisis has been a very controversial issue in the history of South Africa beginning in 1982. During this time South Africa has made a government transition from apartheid to a democracy. Since many national issues needed to be address, the AIDS crisis was pushed aside, leaving a pandemic in the process. Many factors have contributed to the issues including: poverty, social instability, high levels of sexually transmitted infections, the low status of women, sexual violence, migrant labor, limited access to quality medical care, and a history of poor leadership in the response to the pandemic. After three decades of controversy in South Africa dealing with issues involving the government, medicine, and conflict the country is still feeling the after effect today regarding the largest AIDS pandemic. In 1982 the first case of AIDS in South Africa was diagnosed in a homosexual white man who was believed to contract the disease while in California. Later that year two hundred and fifty random blood samples were taken from homosexual men living in Johannesburg, the virus infected 12.8% of the men. When AIDs was first diagnosed, many Africans believed it was only a disease for homosexuals and drug addicts, this did not prove to be the case. The first death of a South African with AIDS occurred in 1985, while the apartheid government was under the control of President P.W. Botha. Botha held a press conference to address the threat of this disease for the country. As ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It was renamed in 1922 as the National Football League or NFL. The original teams are: Canton Bulldogs, Cleveland Tigers, Dayton Triangles, Akron Professionals, Rochester (N.Y.) Jeffersons, Rock Island Independents, Muncie Flyers, Decatur Staleys, Chicago Cardinals, and Hammond Pros. Jim Thorpe was elected as the league s first president. A salary cap is designed to keep player salaries from increasing at the rate they were at the time. The salary cap is basically a set amount of money that each of the NFL s 32 teams is allowed to spend on player salaries for any given year. Since salaries have continued to grow at a rate outpacing the salary cap, teams have found ways to get around the cap. One way is signing bonuses, which don t count toward a team s cap for a given year. A player who receives a signing bonus gets more money for that year than his recorded salary, this way it leaves more room in the cap for the other players. The advantage for the player is that all signing bonus money is guaranteed to be paid, whereas an NFL contract is not guaranteed. All players receive a minimum base salary. The base salary is the value according to his contract. The cap value represents the player s calculated signing bonus, plus salary and other bonuses for the season. The 8 year media deals that the NFL did with ABC, CBS, FOX, ESPN, and Direct TV in January 1998 are worth $17.6 billion. It has fewer games than any other professional sport, but takes in the most money by far. To ABC, broadcasting Monday Night Football for eight seasons was worth $4.4 billion ($550 million per year). I have chosen this because a year ago I was battling it. One day I was a normal teenager and the next, I was getting to know the Hematology Oncology clinic that I d be spending a numerous amount of days in. Hodgkin s lymphoma can affect anyone, all the way from a baby to a 114 year old lady. But NLPHL usually affects 30 40 year old men, which I am neither. • 22. The Importance Of Geographic Literacy Geography, it s not just maps and knowing about landforms. Geography is about a who, what, where, why and how. It raises awareness of things around the world and provides information about understanding conflicts and solving them. (Murray, Dr. Matthew) Dr. Edelson points out that, While the impacts of any particular far reaching decision may be small, the cumulative impact of the decisions made by millions of people are enormous. ( What is Geo literacy? 2012) Geography is something all citizens should know about, everyone should be aware of what is happening around them. The main focus of teaching students how to be geoliterate is so they will know the consequences resulting from basic decisions. As the curriculum continues to change in schools throughout the nation, geography has become nonexistent within the classroom. Besides the basic geographical features, like landforms and oceans, most of this generation knows nothing about geography. Even sometimes these simple concepts are unreachable for students and many young adults making them geo illiterate. Geographic Literacy, as described by Dr. Daniel C. Edelson, has three key concepts; understanding human and natural systems, geographic reasoning and systematic decision making. He describes a geo literate student as not only one who understands geography, but one who understands that the Earth is interconnected and the decisions we make over our lifetime have long lasting effects. They should also able to comprehend that the relationship between human systems and their interactions and the impact it puts on our environment. (2012) Another way to describe Geographic Literacy would mean to be better equipped to better understand the complexity of the world, how our decisions affect others, and the interconnectedness of this rich, diverse, and not so large world. It means that one should know what the effects are of the decisions we make daily. (Baskerville, Brian) Regardless of if the decision is where to live or Herring 2 how to prepare for natural disasters, everyone makes decisions throughout their lifetime that requires geo literacy. • 23. Femme False Body The fragmented femme fatale body that is, the isolated parts of the mysterious and threatening female body is a pervasive element of Antigone by Sophocles and Antigona Furiosa by Griselda Gambaro. In fact, from a symbolic point of view, almost every scene contains a detailed aspect of the femme fatale body some enigmatic, others clear cut that serves to strengthen the meaning of the political and social issues Sophocles and Gambaro raise. Sophocles, a prominent Greek tragedian, wrote plays that demand an exploratory inquiry of the ways characters speak and the distinct expressiveness of their individual idiosyncrasies and, significantly, feelings (Bowra 385). Equally important, Gambaro is an Argentinian writer, either admired or deeply disliked, as a result of her radical decision to place the femme fatale body on the Argentinian stage and recover bodies and memorialize them (Pottlitzer 103). ... • 24. Judaism s Views On Euthanasia Death is one of the most important topics that religions cope with. Since religion deals with matters of life, death, meaning and virtue, it is not shocking that, for countless people, religious convictions are the core reasoning for their outlook on euthanasia. Euthanasia is defined as the mode or act of inducing death painlessly or as a relief for pain. Although there are different components that play a part in a person s stance on euthanasia, like empathy, suffering, constitutional rights, etc., this paper will concentrate on the religious aspects of the topic. Judaism and Christianity share an abundance of theological similarities. Religious ethicists from these observances employ individual religious methodologies when seeking to settle ethical predicaments. In aiming to illuminate their religion s viewpoints on topics of medical ethics, Jewish and Christian ethicists frequently appeal to text, religious doctrine and tradition. In addition, religious ethicists use self determination and examination when making ethical conclusions. Regardless of the modernized secular world we live in today, religious stances on euthanasia are irrefutably vital considering that religion and medicine are prominent social forces in society. What does Judaism teach about euthanasia? Euthanasia, along with other forms of suicide, are denounced in Jewish thought, mostly because it is conceived as taking a human life that belongs to G d. The theory is best known for its hypothesis that individuals are risk averse with respect to gains and risk acceptant with respect to losses and for its emphasis on the importance of the actor s framing of decisions around a reference point. Prospect theory is one of a number of alternative theories of individual choice that behavioral decision theorists have constructed in an attempt to integrate observed anomalies in expected utility theory into a more descriptively accurate theory of choice using an S shaped value function. The S function curve of the value is derived from the experimental results and lacks a complete theoretical explanation. But Tversky and Kahnemen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In many cop movies it is easy to distinguish the good from the evil but in this film it all depends on what your definition of good is. The film is a journey deep within the LAPD s narcotics division and exposes the darker side of law enforcement. For example, in one of the first scenes Detective Harris tells Officer Hoyt that a good narcotics detective should have narcotics in their system and pressures him smoke illicit drugs. Consequently, when Officer Hoyt refuses Detective Harris points a gun at him and tells him if they were on the streets a drug dealer would have killed him, and tells him he doesn t want him in his division. Officer Hoyt gives in to Detective Harris telling him he will do anything he wants him to do and smokes the illicit drugs. Officer Hoyt in complete disbelief after just smoking illicit drugs goes into culture shock when he begins to see that it was just an ordinary part of being in narcotics. In a following scene Officer Hoyt states that it couldn t be true that all this corruption is part of being in the narcotics division and Detective Harris responds that that s the only way to get the job done. • 27. America Stands At A Crossroads America stands at a crossroads. The Fascists in Europe and the Imperialists in Japan threaten the very foundation of our nation. Our troops fight valiantly to beat back these enemies who seek to encroach upon our values of freedom and equality. Yet, in the background, a domestic war wages on. Of course, I refer to the plight of Negro Americans against Jim Crow. Our political leaders constantly request the patience of Negro promising change is right around the corner. However, many have come to understand the emptiness of these words. If change will not come from the top then it must come from the people, and it begins with the integration of baseball. Why baseball? you may ask. It is because baseball is the quintessential mark of being an American. European immigrants, who are often different from native born Americans in terms of language and religion, have been able to integrate into American life simply by playing or being fans of the sport. The connections formed on the field and in the stands have given native born Americans and immigrants an opportunity to connect, to understand, and to respect one another. This pattern of understanding and respect coming through association has been seen elsewhere as well. I remember how Negroes and Whites worked alongside one another in New York during the Great War. It was undoubtedly a rough transition, yet because of firm management, very few problems arose as I recall, not a single hate strike occurred during that time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
