Cross Cultural Conflicts And Cultural Values Essay
CROSS CULTURAL CONFLICTS
Abstract:
As said by Jonathan H. Turner cross cultural conflicts are differences in cultural values and beliefs
that place people at odds with one another . Generally cultural conflicts have been used to describe
crime and violence but that is a pretty narrow definition. The objective of this article is to elaborate
upon the conflicts varying across cultures, not only criminal but also cover various other aspects of
it such as identity conflicts, conflicts in ethnic and culture, etc. Globalisation has brought us closer
together. In the 21st century, we live for the first time in one global community. But it is a
community composed of many strands which must be carefully woven together into a whole. The
article shows pluralism as cross cultural conflict and goes deeper into the roots.
Introduction:
Civilization and culture today are facing various problems: the restructuring of the society, and
decreasing importance of cultural essentialism. There is an enormous cultural diversity in the world
today and people have been living with it. There are regions enriched with cultural diversity as well
as there as continents with large similarities in culture. Apart from conflicts in business and
management there are various day to day problems/differences which arise namely: Gender
differences in child rearing, behaviour across cultures, etc.
Civilizations are depicted as independent social spheres, which as a whole have a major effect on
the political

The Relationships Among Academic Attitudes, Psychological...
Article Title: Reynolds, A. L., Weigand, M. J. (2010). The relationships among academic attitudes,
psychological attitudes, and the first semester academic achievement of first year college students.
Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, 47(2), 175 195.
Introduction
The study by Reynolds and Weigand was conducted in 2010, which means that all sources used
by researchers should be evaluated from that perspective, counting 5 years from the publication
year as more recent and older sources that have no fundamental value as irrelevant. Reynolds and
Weigand (2010) have utilized 40 sources in their research, with only 8 of them being recent (6 of
2005 year, 1 2006, and 1 2007), and the rest being irrelevant, dating back to 1985. Therefore, the
investigators did not report on the recent and relevant literature, using outdated sources for backing
up their findings and justifying their research. Although the investigators language seems neutral
and objective, the sections reporting about limitations of the study brings all biases and drawbacks
to discussion, revealing sample size, lack of generalizability, and use of first semester GPA for
evaluating students academic achievement are cited as the major limitations.
Hypothesis
The hypothesis of the study is not stated clearly, leaving only research questions to guide the
readers in guessing the purpose of the research and possible assumptions. So, Reynolds and
Weigand (2010) asked, (a) what is the relationship

Ferguson Volcanoe Research Paper
The volcanoes in the north south trending cascade province evolved through subduction, addition
of exotic terranes, and oblique plate movements. The North American plate edge was located farther
east during the Mesozoic era. However subduction created microcontinents and microplates which
shifted the plate edge westward.
The first cascade volcanoes erupted 42 million years ago (Ma) forming the older western cascades.
It was orientated northwest but rotated clockwise to become the north south that it is today.
Because of the rotation fissured appeared on the east and lots of eruptions occurred on the

A major eruption melting the ice and snow could send debris flows, pyroclastic flows, and lahars
towards Puget Sound and the Seattle/Tacoma metropolitan area. Volcanic hazard mapping has
identified areas in the park that could be affected in the future by debris flows, lahars, pyroclastic
flows and surges, lava flows, volcanic projectiles, tephra falls, and lateral blasts. Longmire Village
and the Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh, White River, Ipsut Creek, and Sunshine Point campgrounds
are all vulnerable to these hazards. Monitoring of volcanic activity is on going. There is a need for
an emergency response plan to address these hazards. The reaction between groundwater and rising
gas and steam from the underlying magmatic system creates zones of hydrothermally altered rock.
Fumeroles at the summit of the volcano are one result of this reaction. Another result is the largest
volcanic ice cave system in the world at the summit of Mount Rainier. Earthquakes are also geologic
hazards associated with Mount Rainier. Earthquakes precede a volcanic eruption although not every
earthquake means an eruption is imminent. Other than Mt. St. Helens, Mount Rainier is the mos

Rite of Passage Ceremony
RITE OF PASSAGE
It is three days before my initiation ceremony. The day Mama says I become a woman. She is
really happy about it and I m supposed to be, but I m not. I have tried to delay this day for as long
as possible, but this year Papa put his foot down. I am already 17 years old and most girls go
through the ceremony at 14. All the girls in my age group have to go through this rite in order to
make them eligible for marriage. No woman in the village can get married without undergoing the
rite of passage. It is part of our tradition and the elders believe it ensures women do not stray from
their marital homes. They also believe you are unclean without it. People were already starting to
whisper about me as I was the last girl in my age group who not gone through it and my friends
tease and look down on me that I am not yet a woman.
My younger brother, Dide cannot be initiated into the Warrior class because he has an older sister
who is uncircumcised. This is the real reason Papa has refused to listen to me any longer. Dide has
come of age and he doesn t want me to delay his initiation. After my initiation ceremony, I would
be getting married. Papa has already someone picked out. I ve seen him a couple of times, my
friends think I m lucky to be getting married into his family. I don t think anything. Going through
the initiation ceremony and getting married would be the end of schooling for me. I know what is
expected of me as a female but I don t like it. When I told

Gene Expression in Eukaryotes
Gene expression in eukaryotes can be broken down into three stages. These stages include
Transcription, RNA processing, and Translation. These steps are similar to gene expression in
prokaryotes but RNA processing is specific to gene expression in eukaryotes.
Transcription
Transcription happens in the cell nucleus. This is where DNA can be found. For example you can
use DNA as instructions to make certain things such as proteins, but, these instructions are in a
different language and you do not understand them, so the workers that will eventually assemble
them cannot work with them. This is where mRNA will come into play. The mRNA will provide
the workers or cells with new instructions that will be used to build the protiens. In transcription
DNA is unzipped and the enzyme RNA polymerase RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region.
This starts the unwinding of the DNA strands, and the polymerase starts RNA synthesis which runs
along the template strand of the DNA. In eukaryotic cells proteins called transcription factors bind
to promoters that include a TATA box, 25 nucleotides upstream from the start of transcription. After,
more transcription factors will bind to the DNA, together with RNA polymerase II, forming the
transcription initiation complex.
The second step of transcription is the process of elongation. This is where the polymerase moves
downstream while it unwinds the DNA and elongates the RNA from 5 to 3 . As the RNA synthesis
continues downstream the new

Gender Roles In The Penelopiad
Human nature is a large part of our world today. In Margret Atwood s, The Penelopiad, one can
see that the roles men take have a great effect on the women. Atwood says that Human nature has
not changed in thousands of years and still to this day is correct. The Penelopiad shows how
women are belittled and the how many stereotypes are being used to describe how Penelope lived.
Humannature consists of men being the rulers and women being the caretakers, but this is
problematic because women have the same ability as men; therefore, can contribute to the
betterment of society. Currently people still see women as the ones who have to clean, cook and
do the majority of housework and the men having to do all the heavy lifting, hard working jobs

International Monetary Fund Argentina Project And Its...
The International Monetary Fund Argentina Project and its problems and outcomes
One project of the International Monetary Fund was a series of loans given to the country of
Argentina in the 1990s through 2001. In the 1990s many investors and brokers looked to Argentina
for investments as they rated its economy as one of the world s strongest (Blustein, 2003, Aug 3). It
was at this time that Argentina first started to follow the International Monetary Fund formula for
economic stabilization in development including reducing budget in balance of payment deficits,
raising interest rates, reducing inflation, privatizing state assets, and reducing trade barriers and
regulation on capital flows in and out of the country (Paddock, 2002, p. 158). These policies
helped reduce the hyper inflationary levels that Argentina had reached during the 1980s. This
positive outlook may have prevented a needed change in the economic policies when the effects of
the Mexican peso crisis in 1995 placed Argentina s economy in a brief recession. It wasn t until
1998 that Argentine policymakers discussed the country s finances with a senior official of the
International Monetary Fund who sounded the alarm that the country might be headed for an Asian
style melt down. However despite the warning significant economic changes were not made, in part
due to the confidence that money could be easily acquired from the International Monetary Fund
(Blustein, 2003, Aug 3). In 1999 the financial

Intersectional Feminism
Within Western culture, mass media contributes to the social construction of gender roles and has a
direct effect on the social structure of society. The media uses advertising, television, and film to
help facilitate these changes. This idea will be explored using theories rooting from intersectional
feminism when comparing genderstereotypes, discrimination against transgender people, racial
stereotypes, rape culture and reasons for these portrayals in popular culture.
Basis of Feminist Theory The idea of feminism is commonly misconstrued in society as having a
pro female only agenda. Butler, (2011) argues that feminism is simply the social, political, and
economic equality of the sexes. Based off evidence provided in Bardsley s ... Show more content on

Pop culture is defined as a product of a culture that has a mass audience (Zeisler 2008:1). Pop
culture is considered dependent on advertising, depicting women and people of colour in a
problematic way and discriminating manner (Ziesler, 2008:2). Popular culture has become our
common knowledge, and to understand it is a key part in understanding society as a whole.
According to Beamish (2016), popular culture is a form of symbolic communication between
humans. Symbols can be anything that can be recognized by a culture and often presented in the
forms of language, values, norms, and material culture. The use of language is a powerful tool
that allows for the media to relay particular messages to the rest of society. The imposition of
certain concepts as a result can be argued as having a direct affect on the daily lives of those who
are exposed. Whereas material culture allows the population to see these messages visually through
advertisements, film, and television. Some basic forms of pop culture include television, film,
music, news, and advertising. Popular culture is rooted in mass culture, and deemed for those who
could not afford the means to participate in high culture activities. Those who subjected to the
popular culture were assumed to be uneducated and unworthy of real art (Ziesler, 2008:1). The

The Development Of Attachment Bonds
The development of attachment bonds to other biological figures plays an important role in
emotional development. Throughout life, an individual will form several relationships, some of
which will be sincere and intimate while others will be superficial. However, collectively these
relationships provide the foundation of our communities, families, and friendships and become
essential to our survival as a species. A secure attachment bond can be classified as the interactive
emotional relationship between a caregiver and infantinvolving the emotional responses of the
caregiver to the infant s cues (Bowlby, 1969). These emotional responses can be expressed in a
variety of forms including gestures, sounds, or even movements. Thus, this interactive emotional
relationship between the caregiver and infant brings the two closer together creating an
environment that allows the infant to feel safe and secure, further developing their ability to
communicate and interact with others (Bowlby, 1969). So, in talking about attachment bonds, how
are attachments developed in the first place? Starting from birth, infants are essentially unattached
emotionally to any significant figure and show no social discriminatory responses to anyone
specific. As the baby grows and develops, they will enter the second phase in which they can
distinguish between familiar and unfamiliar faces, voices, and smells. At this point, they are not
completely attached to any one individual, despite their

Stress Related Mucosal Disease ( Srmd )
Stress related mucosal disease (SRMD), an acute erosive gastritis that may potentially lead to
stress ulcers and/or stress related injuries, remain a significant concern for patients within the
critical care setting.1 The initiation of anti secretory therapy (AST) for stress ulcer prophylaxis
(SUP) within the critical care setting has gained widespread use as it has been noted to protect
against SRMD and clinically important gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding.2 Although the use of these
agents is well established in the critical care setting, several research studies have confirmed the
extensive and inappropriate use of AST in both intensive care unit (ICU) and non ICU patients,
based on current recommendations.3 Proton pump inhibitors, in most hospital settings, have been
the mainstay drug of choice for SUP. Since the introduction of the first proton pump inhibitor
(PPI) in the late 1980s, the use of PPIs has risen dramatically, with sharp increases noted up to
456% in the 1990s.4 As one of the world s most frequently prescribed medications5, expenditures
are estimated to surpass seven billion dollars annually,6 falling only second to HMG CoA
reductase inhibitors. There is strong evidence demonstrating that SUP can be an efficacious and
effective preventative care measure. However, a perceived favorable safety profile has contributed
to the significant overutilization of PPIs. STRESS ULCER RELATED RISK FACTORS Stress

Alienation In Benjamin Franklin s IsnT Everyone A Little...
Complete success isolates a person from his fellows, but suffering makes kinsmen of us all. In a
way, people who are exotic develop faster than those who share the same attitudes towards each
other and the sense of belonging can either benefit or corrupt an individual in alienation. But,
those who do not agree with the social norms have greater impacts in the world s growth and
development. Thus, people do not need to belong in order to be successful, fulfilled members of
society because outsiders see things from a different and valuable perspective, learn to be more
independent and progress farther than others.
To begin, people do not need to belong to be successful because outsiders see things from a
different, more valuable perspective. Alienation provides the creativity one can grasp as explained
in the short story, Isn t Everyone a Little Bit Weird. In the short story, one of the framers of the

expressing Franklin s peculiar habits and actions. However, despite the fact of being unusual, he

the significance of acquiring divergent habits and how success can generate prosperity and success.

The Purpose Of The Marshmallow Experiment
The Marshmallow Experiment was pioneered in the 1960s at the Stanford University daycare. It
introduces a connection between success in the future of young children by their ability to delay
gratification. This study has been operating for more than forty years and still more studies are
being added to test different variables such as studying an individual s emotional impulses and
studying the effects of changing the reliability of a child s environment during the marshmallow
experiment. When these variables are taken into account the result drastically changed. There have
also been follow up studies on the first participants with findings that explain the results of having
low and high delayed gratification. The purpose of the Marshmallow Experiment is to test how
long a young child, typically in the range of 3 5 years old for the experiment, could wait before
giving into temptation. First, the children were given one given a marshmallow by a researcher
of the study, they were instructed to wait to eat the marshmallow until the researcher came back.
If they waited for a total of 15 minutes the researcher would return with a second marshmallow. 2
out of 3 of the kids gave into temptation. While, 1 out of 3 kids had enough willpower to distract
themselves so that they could receive the second treat. Several years later, researchers remained in

The Geographic Information System ( Gis ) Essay
Today s society relies heavily on the use of computers and computerised information, so much so
that we rarely notice when an activity or action involves the use of technology. Over the past 30
years, technology has continued to develop into extremely complex systems capable of processing
large amounts of data. It is now possible to represent not only numbers and letters, but also images,
sounds and maps (Bernhardsen, 2002, p. 1). A Geographic Information System(GIS) is a computer
system or application designed to perform a variety of operations based on geographic
information. GIS is a tool used by many organisations, businesses, schools, governments and
individuals searching for innovative ways to solve problems (Evans, 2014). Geographic
Information Systems allow users to map, model, analyse and query data all within a single
database according to their location (Evans, 2014). Information about the world is stored as a
collection of layers; these layers can be linked together by a common locational component such
as zip codes, latitude and longitude or road name. These geographic references allow individuals
to locate features for analysis of trends and patterns (Evans, 2014). Dozens of layers can be added
and organised to display a wide array of information on many subjects.
Computer based GIS systems have knowingly been used since the late 1960 s (Coppock Rhind,
1997). However, the history of GIS is relatively unrecorded, it is a field in which history is little

Language And Speech Processing Throughout Modern Humans Essay
The ability of speech and language processing has always been a defining factor in what makes
humans unique, especially from their closest living relative primates. This paper will analyze the
differences in modern human brain structure and the common chimpanzee brain structure (pan
troglodytes) in regards to the language and speech function. Language and speech processing in
modern humans will focus on two parts of the cerebral cortex: Broca s area and Wernicke s area,
which is responsible for generating speech and language and receiving speech and language
respectively. Broca s area will be analyzed by the two parts it is made up of: Brodmann area 44,
associated mainly with phonological tasks and Brodmann area 45, associated mainly with semantic
processing. Wernicke s area receives and interprets speech and language and is shown to be
connected to Broca s area by a neuronal tract known as the arcuate fasciculus. The structure of the
common chimpanzee brainis shown to have homologous structures to Broca s and Wernicke s area
in modern humans, but is significantly smaller, and is unable to perform the same developed
functions as modern humans in regards to language and speech, but is much more limited and
simplified. Speech and language are key components that distinguish modern humans from their
close relatives primates. In the modern human brain, located on the frontal lobe, is the motor cortex
or strip that regulates the facial and oral muscles. They include the tongue,

Huxley s Response To Society
Aldous Huxley s novel Brave New World is a warning to society. Huxley describes a society that
is completely conformed to government and relies on the government for all of their needs.
Huxley uses symbolism in his novel to introduce warnings on how today s society should not be
ran. A society based on people being born into a caste system would not be a successful society
according to Huxley. A destroyed society will occur when antidepressants are overused, the
number of broken families increase, cloning becomes possible, and a decrease of sexual morals
takes place. Antidepressants are becoming more common in today s society. Brave New World
demonstrates a society that bases emotions on a drug called soma. Soma is used for numbing any

Brave New World is a society that does not believe in families and the world today is depicting
the society in the novel more by the number of broken families. Present day society does not

Huxley is trying to warn the world that we are headed in a direction of destruction with no
families. Mothers and fathers will not exist and children will be placed on racks upon racks of
test tubes in a hatchery system where the children are conditioned to their own caste. Studies
show that researchers at the University of New Mexico warned that girls rely too much on
romantic relationships for their self identity (Croydon). Women are known to be more
emotionally attached to relationships and want families but if children in today s world are more

The use of physical therapy has progressed throughout the medical field for a plethora of reasons.
Whether you need physical therapy after a car accident or breaking your arm in a basketball game,
physical therapy has been accustomed for a wide range of injuries. Many people cannot afford the
physical therapyneeded because numerous insurance companies do not support the practice.
Nonetheless, studies have shown that physical therapytakes a great toll on your recovery process.
More importantly as children become more involved in sports and start earlier in age to be more
competitive, the injury rate of children has increased significantly. With that being said, the range
of injuries on the knee specifically have varied and transformed the... Show more content on

For a knee injury, they would have to strengthen the other muscles surrounding and near the knee
such as the hamstring, quadriceps, and posterior tibialis muscle. These muscles aid in
supporting the knee as you walk, jump, or whatever the case may be. Strengthening these
muscles will create better balance and coordination of your knee as less pressure will be on your
knee if your leg muscles are stronger. In an article written by Gay, him and his colleagues read
through over one hundred different study cases about the effects on exercise on knee osteoporosis
(Gay). Within the reading, he describes that the majority of the knee osteoporosis cases need about
thirty minutes of exercise and thirty minutes of education for about six weeks. The education that
a person with knee osteoporosis would require could be obtained from a physical therapist as they

Theme Analysis for Red Road and Rear Window Essay
Essay Analysing the themes, which wore used in the film Red Road (2006), and also the
surveillance, Misery and love and also explaining the directors (Andrea Arnold) decisions
techniques.
In this essay I am going to be analysing the themes, which have been used in the film Red road
(2006) and compare it to rear window (1954). I will also be looking at the CCTV surveillance. I will
also be looking at misery and love and how does this change the characters objective along the
film. I will also be looking and explain the directors decision and techniques which she has used in
this film.

This however turns out they just wanted to have sex with each other which Jackie soon finds out
while she watches. Red road does engage the audience into watching what the actual character is
watching with CCTV, which makes us, feel apart of the story and makes us want to keep on
watching. CCTV surveillance does create tension as the audience do not know what will be
happening as the CCTV footage is basically showing live events.
In the opening of the film we as an audience are introduced to a female CCTV operator who
happens to be Jackie. With this opening it kind of lets us know that this film is related to CCTV
and that this female CCTV operator Jackie has a key part in the film. On the other hand although
red road and CCTV surveillance is structured through the story I don t think it is necessarily about
CCTV, It s more about Clyde and Jackie and unravelling past into her finding out what really
happened and why he did what he did when he accidently killed her husband and daughter.
Voyeurism
Voyeurism is also used in this film. By voyeurism I mean the spying between Jackie and Clyde
where she is pursing his every step and wanting to find out more information about him and the
need to want to get very close to him.
Voyeurism is a key element in how the story is told in red road. The reason for this being is due to
the fact that we as an audience are introduced to a

The Tempest By William Shakespeare And Mama Day By Gloria...
The Tempest by William Shakespeare and Mama Day by Gloria Naylor are two fantastic stories
that both belong to the genre magical realism, which is where magical elements are incorporated
into realistic fiction. Prospero the main character is robbed of Dukedom and marooned on an
island with his infant daughter where he meets natives and fire demons who do his bidding. Mama
Day the main character in Gloria Naylors novel is a no nonsense woman who uses her magic to
help the other residents of their island. Even though Naylor denies that Mama Day is modern
retelling of the Tempestit is hard not see that there are similarities between the stories. However,
there are some differences. Prospero takes justice into his own hands, just as the characters
around Mama Day take their situations into their own hands. They do not trust Mama Day s
ways until they are forced to ask for her help. Whereas Prospero and Miranda might seem like
parallel characters because they both use magic, Miranda knows its limits and uses it to help
others, while Prospero only discovers the limits of magic after he gives it up.
After breaking his staff and throwing his books into the sea, Prospero is left with little to no
power of his own. It is in his last speech in the play, in the epilogue, that he realizes that his magic
is nothing without outside help. He no longer has the outside power of his books and staffs to
make his magic work so he is weak and vulnerable. Prospero realizes he will never get off

The Cult Of Mithras And The Roman Empire
We may think that that cult origin by the fact that was taken from relevant scholars, but the early
development has remained consistently disputed. The Cult of Mithras began in the first century
and it was invented by the Roman Empire. When we think about the first century AD, Christianity
is almost very invisible during this time. The cult of Mithras development is mysterious. This
religion is invented by the Italians. Mithras provides members with sense of salvation if they
proceed through the seven stages of initiation, because the important aspect of the cult is that they
must be successful, and have spiritual bonding with their gods. If they do not success, they will
face some consequences, but members who follow this path will be rewarded and be offered
compensation. In addition, archaeological findings show that the Cult of Mithras does stay the
same from the beginning of first century to the end of fourth century AD. Archaeological evidence
of the cult only depends on the materials that existed during Roman Empire. One of the most
important types of evidence that the archaeological record shows is the nature and form of where
these men worship, a Mithraeum . Much of this worship buildings can be found in parts of Europe

The leaders of the Aboriginal community proposed the issue to the government to develop a black
parliament which would be responsible for dealing with issues affecting Aboriginals or part
Aboriginals. The idea was developed and the Whitlam Government established the organization.
The advantage of this was to have an organization dealing with the rights of the Aboriginals. The
system is based on the decisions of the Aboriginal council members which run along 27 divisions,
running along Australia to hear the issues of Aboriginals and then act upon it. This would put
more concern to the issue as you would be talking about only one ethnic group, making it a bigger
issue. The basic impact it had on Aboriginals was that it gave them a voice in parliament, and they

Fear In The Outliers By George Orwell
Fear s tendencies are much akin to that of a parasitic worm; forever burrowing with hunger
insatiable, altering and manipulating its host if given dominion. Fear did not fall unknown to him,
for he shared familiarity as one would with an age old friend, sans camaraderie. Did it guide him?
Perhaps, but within a world devoured by illness, where wolves lay with sheep, sometimes a touch
of paranoia interwoven with persistent foreboding kept you from the yawning endless maw of
death itself. Furthermore, in the outliers, there slinked more than the diseased to dread. Let the
mindless tear him asunder, let the infection render him free of his faculties or dig him six feet

Episode Of Doctor Who Or Phil Of The Future
It s completely inevitable to switch through dimensions with such simplicity. I mean, unless you
re in an episode of Doctor Who or Phil of the Future, then I guess you could say anything is
possible. As kids, we often think about getting in a time machine and flying through time, like
endng up in the year 3000 or even way back in the dinosaur era. The whole aspect of it really
seems fun when you expect everything to go your way. Unless, of course, you re me, Camryn
Matthews. On that bright Saturday afternoon, everything was going great. Work was going
smoothly and my friends were coming over that night. Everything was going just as I planned. I
was basically the type of girl to want everything to go my way, but not in the super obnoxiously
bratty way; in the stubborn way. Going out with my girls was going to be a huge hit. Despite the
fact that there is nothing to actually do in our town in Florida, we are determined to make it
one. As time rolled by, I was finally out the door; walking unsteady while still trying to
accomplish putting my heels on correctly. This was about to be the best time of my life, or so I
thought. Around 1 AM, my life changed in ways no one could imagine. Being rolled down the
hospital hallway, I had no clue what was going on. Shaking and trembling, I was covered in blood.
I asked the doctor, yet got no response. I slowly reached up to feel the back of my head, curious as
to what I would find, and there it was; an oversized, bloody hole. I

Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting
Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass produce ceramic shapes that are not easily
made on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with a liquid clay casting slip.
The water inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster mold until a layer of solid clay is left
deposited onto the mold walls. Once the right thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is
poured off and a hollow cast remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society
through its commercial applications. Because of its low cost and ease of mass production,
many everyday items have been casted using slip such as: figurines, doll faces, dishes,
flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The recycling ability of slip is another asset, since the loss
ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting procedure. Slip casting has many advantages. The slip
casting process allows for the creation of high detailed duplicates. Slip casting opens the door to
experiment with recipes that lack plasticity such as bone china, talc, or spodumene bodies[1]. The
slip casting process is also a favored technique because it can produce very consistent results, results
like equal density during formation. Traditional slips are mixtures of clays, non plastic minerals,
deflocculates, water, and occasionally flocculants. A deflocculant is an electrolyte enables fluidity
with a minimal amount of water. Less water results in far less shrinkage and greater strength. On

Dictatorship In J. B. Priestley s An Inspector Calls
The play An Inspector calls was written two years before World War One. Many conflicts
surrounded this time period such as the argument of democracy versus dictatorship. The central
powers were countries with powerful elite who wanted more power, in the play portrayed by
people like Mr Birling. Many regular people wanted a share of the wealth and the right to have and

Ethical Issues Paper
Ethical issues are a significant area for companies doing business deals on a daily basis. In today s
high tech and the ultra competitive business world, unfortunately, ethical conduct is often ignored.
Many huge companies like Enron, Arthur Anderson, AIG, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, as well
as Bank of America, are crushed, or seriously damaged with the lack of ethicscompass in place.
Organization ethics is the guidelines and principles by which businesses operate; the principles and
values of each person in a businesswill have a direct influence on the company s success (Renshaw,

The ethical principles can be employed to address organizational issues regarding financial ethics,

Bradford noted that, Morton... [had] more craft then honesty. This suspicion was warranted as
Morton waited until the leaders of his new settlement had left and then convinced the servants to
rebel against them. He assumed the role of leader of this motley crew. Bradford described this
group at Merrymount that, ...fell to great licentiousness, and led a dissolute life, pouring out
themselves into all profaneness. And Morton became lord of misrule, and maintained (as it were) a
school of Atheism (127).
Everything that the Puritans stood for, Morton was boldly going against. But the following events
that Morton orchestrated are what really pushed the Puritans over the edge. Firstly, Morton erected
a Maypole for a May Day celebration. This Maypole was in the words of Morton, a lamentable
spectacle to the precise Separatists that lived at New Plymouth. They termed it an idol; yea,
they called it the Calf of Horeb and stood at defiance with the place (141). However, Morton
made no apologies and his group gathered around the pole to drink and sing songs that included
lyrics such as, Drink and be merry, merry, merry boys; /...To cure the heart oppressed with grief,
/ And of good liquors is the chief. /Then drink (141). In Morton s writing it is clear that he just
wanted to have a good time.
While the Maypole incident was offensive to the Puritans, Morton s next offense was outright
condemnable. As Bradford described,

Impact Of John Stuart Mill On Income Inequality
ECON1401 Written Assignment 1 John Stuart Mill and Income Inequality
Many great economic thinkers throughout history has offered various differing yet interrelated
views and ideas that may prove useful to the analysis of current issues in modern economics. A
persistent issue in the modern economy is income inequality whereby the distribution of income
among the population is unequal. This means that the gap between the rich and the poor increases
over time if the issue is not appropriately addressed. In exploring the issue of income inequality in
Australia, this essay aims to analyse the issue from the perspective of a selected economic thinker
namely John Stuart Mill by: (1) providing a summary of Mill s key ideas and theories, including the
different forces that may have shaped his thinking; (2) applying Mill s conceptual framework to the
income inequality problem; and (3) offer solutions he might have suggested to address this problem,
including policies that may be adopted and institutions that may be constructed in the Australian
context.
In order to consider the problem of income inequality from Mill s perspective, it is of imperative
importance to first grasp an understanding of what factors contributed to the development of his key
ideas. Known as one of the most influential figures in classical economics, Mill is more commonly
described as a philosopher and socialist than an economist due to his obstinate strive for progressive
social reform throughout his

President Obama s Child Farm Labor Bill
President Obama wanted to pass a bill that would prevent young farm workers from participating
in farm related activities and chores. Billed as an anti child labor act, the bill was quickly
censured. As Leven puts it, the proposal drew heavy criticism from rural state lawmakers and
agricultural leaders, who cast the rule as government overreach that would erode the traditional
American family. The traditional American family in this case is a rural one, which is an under
represented segment of the population in federal politics. In addition to the way the bill harms
traditional rural life, it would also have significantly harmed the American economy at a time
when the economy needs a boost. Farm families rely on a continuity of labor, so that the young
people on the family can learn the trade as early as possible to support their future careers.
Moreover, the bill represents an unnecessary encroachment of both the government and big labor
on farming practices. Part of the bill s provision was to create a government intervention to
oversee occupational safety, when there are already independent organizations committed to
meeting the same objectives. President Obama s proposed child farm labor bill was untenable
because it would damage traditional rural family life; harm a significant part of the American
economy; and enable government and big labor to intrude upon the lives of Americans. President
Obama s child farm labor bill would apply child labor laws to children

Preparing For The Amle 2015 National Conference My Intent
AMLE 2015
In preparing for the AMLE 2015 National Conference my intent was to get inspiration, and to find

I m in a unique position in that I teach at an online school, ECOT, and much of what is presented
at conferences applies well to a brick and mortar school, but needs adaptation to work for my
classroom and my students. I knew finding information to meet my classroom requirements might
not be easy. I also knew there were a few sessions I was particularly interested in, for instance
Cultivating Resilience and Perseverance in Students with Rick Wormeli.
The energy during the General Session while Marcia Tate spoke inspired me to go to her session
Worksheets Don t Grow Dendrites: 20 Instructional Strategies that Engage the Brain. This session
was amazing. She taught the session the same way she was teaching us to teach in our classrooms.
Not only did I realize I use many of the techniques she employed, but I was forced to think about
how I can use strategies such as movement, and Cooperative Learning and Reciprocal Teaching in
my online setting. This first session with Marcia Tate had me looking forward to the afternoon as I
walked out of her session to meet with a coworker for lunch.
After lunch I attended the 3 hour workshop Talk, Move, and Mess Active Strategies That Engage
More Students with David Shepard. I honestly was concerned about being in one session for three

The Street Gang In LETB
In LETB, Harry is scapegoated by the roving street gang. Harry commits the horrendous act of
molesting a young boy, however that is not grounds for dismissing his death as justice according to
Girard s theory. This is further proved because Selby has the street gang murder him. Throughout
the section Strike , they show constant disdain for Harry and use him for beer and food. The
importance of the street gangs role as the scapegoaters , is that they show homosexual tendencies
throughout the novel. However here, they call Harry a freak and abuse him (176). After they
crucify him, they go into the bathroom of the Greeks, seemingly happier than they had been since
they beat a sailor up in Another Day, Another Dollar . In both the incident with the sailor and with
Harry, questions of masculinity and impotence were the forefront causes for the street gang s
violence. This suggests that Selby shows their inability to come to terms with their own
sexuality; and how it is much easier to strike out than accept their feelings, as seen in above in
the chapter on Hypermasculinity . The rape of the prostitute Tralala is also suggestive of this, as
it seems to include most of the males in Sunset Park. They come together to violently rape her,
seemingly to take out their own feelings of inferiority and impotence on her. Like with Girard s
sexually aggressive goat , Tralala is chosen because she is seen as an abject woman. In the
conservative conforming world of 1950s America ,

Rhetorical Analysis Of Thomas King
Rhetorical Analysis of Thomas King
`Recently, scholars have analyzed King s (2003) chapter You ll Never Believe What Happened is
Always a Good Way to Start, with the intent to discover King s rhetorical techniques and overall
purpose. At the time of his speech, the world was predominantly scientific, capitalistic, Judeo
Christian (p.12). Firstly, Cassandra Plettell (2017) found that King utilizes ethos to demonstrate
how stories may alter an individual s perception (p.2). Similarly, Emma Murphy (2017) found that
King uses ethos and pathos that portrays the idea that stories have the ability to greatly impact
individuals lives (p.2). Then, Ajodeji Edna Adetimechin (2017) found that King uses ethos, pathos,
and logos to convince his audience of the influential power that stories have in shaping
perspectives (p.2). In general, they have found that King s purpose is regarding the influential
powers of stories with the use of ethos, pathos and/or logos. In addition to Plettell, Murphy and
Adetimechin s finding, I would like to go a step further and argue that King s overall purpose is to
persuade the audience that the Genesis creation story has formulated a culture that lacks
forgiveness, compassion, and unity (King, 2003, pp.24 27). Inclusively, I will argue how King
utilizes his personal experiences with stories, emotional appeals, and writing arrangement in order
to gradually persuade his highly intellectual audience. Throughout his chapter, King recounts several

Why Should I Be Chosen For The Eng Conference Team
1)To me EAST is an opportunity. It s an opportunity to grow and develop in so many different
ways that you don t find in a normal classroom. EAST is more than just a class. It is experiences,
friendships, an opportunity for knowledge, and it is unlike any other program with which I have
ever been associated. My experience in EAST has helped me identify my strengths, enabled
critical thinking, provided leadership opportunities, and required responsibility. Through EAST I
am involved and engaged with my community, and have found a love of not only interacting with
but with helping people. EAST has helped me become responsible and take ownership and pride
in the projects I have created and been a part. EAST has helped me become the leader, critical

The whole entire project is focused on helping inform residents of Baxter County on all of the
historical locations that are around them on the daily basis. Through collaboration with the
Historical Society we hope this project will affect many, and possibly even strengthen the
foundation of learning and be used in elementary classrooms to make students aware at an early age.
5) I believe that the Hammock Garden project would be a fabulous project to showcase at EAST
Conference. Not only does this project positively affect our community, but it is also creating a
place for teens to hang out and creates a useful addition to the new park being built. This project fits
the EAST model perfectly, finding a problem, connecting with the community, and using high end

Comparing The Pyramid Of The Sun And The Ise Jingu
Among many of the world s most outstanding structures, the Pyramid of the Sun and the Ise Jingu
are exceptional sacred spaces. Built by ancient civilizations, both structures carry deep cultural
significance. Both these spaces share profound ancient traditions and longevity while embracing
two very different religious trains of thought. Consequently, each structure has comparable history
but rather diverse use.
The Pyramid of the Sun located in Teotihuacan is a four tier, stepped pyramid. This enormous
earthwork covers some 13 acres and is considered one of the largest stepped pyramids in the world
(Dewitte et al 440). However the structure s significance goes further than its sheer feat of primitive
engineering. As is suggested by Doris Heyden, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The cave in many historic accounts is the beginning of life and the dwelling place of gods and
guardians. Thus the Pyramid and the cave symbolize the existence and duration of life.
Consequently the location of the Pyramid is very significant. By itself the pyramid is simply a
grand structure. However, because the Pyramid is constructed upon a series of caverns and a
natural springs it is crucial to the religious system. Caves are considered the womb of the earth
and springs are the openings to the underworld and to the earth gods (Heyden 134,141). The
Pyramid is then a grand monument to the origin of life and a bridge to the spirit realm.
Furthermore, the Pyramids physical orientation is also significant. The structure has four corners
and the cave beneath has four chambers which are believed to be homage to the earth fertility gods
and associated with the cardinal direction (Heyden 141). Additionally the pyramid also faces west,
toward the setting sun which further emphasizes the structure s sacred overtones (Dewitte et al
440). Therefore, the pyramid not only has spiritual importance, but the location upon which the
Pyramid sits is especially

The Ugly Truth About Beauty By Dave Barry
Men do have different ways to respond to different situations than women, and it is because we
guys take things not too personal. Guys do not like expressing their feelings about themselves to
other people and man do not have a perspective in beauty when it comes to ourselves or other
men, that is because men are not judgemental towards other men. On the other hand, females are
always taking things too personal and serious, and they are always comparing each other with
their looks to other friends and women are always asking for opinions in how they look to other
friends because of the insecurities they bring since little from playing with toys. When it comes
to beauty we guys are somewhat really laid back about it and it is because men are way to
confident for someone else or something else to bring their self esteem down, but on the other hand
women are always comparing themselves with more beautiful people or the barbies toys that the
author Dave Barry talks about in this The Ugly Truth about Beauty essay.... Show more content on

But even though men have those feelings, they do not like to show them because as a guy we
do not like to show weakness and mostly towards other guys and more towards a girl that we just
want to impress. Even though guys can bring themselves down while looking into the mirror,
the self esteem is too high for others to bring men down with their looks because as a guy we do
not care what people say or the opinion they have about men. Dave Barry said on his essay Some
men form the opinion that they are irresistible stud muffins, and they do not change this opinion
even when their faces sag and their noses bloat to the size of eggplants and their eyebrows grow
together to form what appears to be a giant forehead dwelling tropical caterpillar (Barry 229). What
he is implying is that men do not care about how they look, when women worry about every
imperfection they may

Mumford, who is known for her work on human factors and socio technical systems. The main
focus at this point is to identify alternatives, i.e. alternative social arrangements to meet social
objectives and alternative technical arrangements to meet technical objectives. Socio technical
alternatives are combined social and technical alternatives hence, the technical terminology. These
are categorised; initially, by their fulfilment of objectives and secondly by costs, resources and
constraints. This method identifies the most effective socio technical solution and the related role

Iliotibial Band Syndrome Research Paper
Iliotibial Band Syndrome
Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is a condition that often causes knee pain. It can also cause pain in
the outside of your hip, thigh, and knee. The iliotibial band is a strip of tissue that runs from the
outside of your hip and down your thigh to the outside of your knee.
Repeatedly bending and straightening your knee can irritate the iliotibial band.
CAUSES
This condition is caused by inflammation and irritation from the friction of the iliotibial band
moving over the thigh bone (femur) when you repeatedly bend and straighten your knee.
RISK FACTORS
This condition is more likely to develop in people who:
Frequently change elevation during their workouts.
Run very long distances.
Recently increased ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A snapping sensation over your knee.
Swelling on the outside of your knee.
Pain or a feeling of tightness in your hip.
DIAGNOSIS
This condition is diagnosed based on your symptoms, medical history, and physical exam. You
may also see a health care provider who specializes in reducing pain and increasing mobility
(physical therapist). A physical therapist may do an exam to check your balance, movement, and
way of walking or running (gait) to see whether the way you move could contribute to your injury.
You may also have tests to measure your strength, flexibility, and range of motion.
TREATMENT
Treatment for this condition includes:
Resting and limiting exercise.
Returning to activities gradually.
Doing range of motion and strengthening exercises (physical therapy) as told by your health care
provider.
Varying your workout to include low impact activities, such as swimming and cycling.
HOME CARE INSTRUCTIONS
If directed, apply ice to the injured area.

Stereotypes In Zootopia
Most people think of small animals, such as sheep, as meek and submissive due to their frequent
portrayal as innocent characters in children s stories and folklore; in these same stories,
antagonistic characters tend to be fiercer animals such as lions or wolves. However, the children
s movie Zootopia, in which all characters are mammals, shows that this is not always the case.
The characters in this film break the stereotypes against them by being different or the opposite of
what the audience expects based on their species or occupation within the film. For instance, Judy
Hopps solves the case on the missing mammals and why they went savage despite being a dumb
bunny , and Nick Wilde turns from a sly con artist to the first fox cop. This... Show more content on

She achieves this, however, in her very corrupt method of making every predator go savage and
using fear to control the public. When Bellwether s true identity is revealed to Judy and Nick,
she expresses that she intends to make prey oppose predators by making the citizens believe that
predators are going back to their primitive ways as hunters. She also admits that her plan was to
assume power over Zootopia by framing Mayor Lionheart and become mayor. Judy tells her it
would not work, to which Bellwether replies, Fear always works. And I ll dart every predator in
Zootopia to keep it that way (Zootopia). As an assistant mayor and a mayor, Bellwether seemed
to have worked purely on good intentions, such as when she had helped Judy and Nick find
where Manchas went on the traffic cameras, or when she tried to make Judy the face of the
Zootopia police force as a heroic symbol for the scared public. This is the typical expectation most
people have for sheep characters. However, Bellwether breaks this stereotype and strives to obtain
power as mayor of Zootopia through her corrupt

American Ideal In The 1950s
Media and suburbs have defined and shaped American ideals in various ways, ranging from the
ideal family structure in America, the ideal appearance and behavior of individuals to the ideal
social arrangement and division in America.
Media defined the America dream as the ability of a family to live in suburbs and follow the gender
specific functions in American society. Through overwhelming representations of suburbia in
media, suburb living was shaped as an American ideal in the 1950s. Media portrays an ideal
American home life as one that involves home ownership in suburbs, which represented social
status, guaranteed family stability and happiness. Therefore, the lives of middle class families in
suburbs have been widely depicted in sitcoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The correlation between race and suburbs in America has been full of tension and exclusivity. In the
1950s, white flight, the migration of white people from city centres into suburbs, leaving behind the
black population in inner cities was common. This has contributed to a distinct spatial division
between the Anglo Americans and African Americans within the America. Being caused by the
existing income disparity, the minority African Americans, having a lower social economic status
in American, are mostly trapped in poverty cycle and are unable to afford housing ownership in
suburbs. Further aggravated by discriminative government policies towards the minorities, social
division within the country was made even more prominent. According to Haralovich, the FHA
implemented several strategies, in hope of establishing community homogeneity and stability.
Protective covenants were proposed to restrict racial mixing within neighborhoods (Haralovich,
1989). Loan applications, accepted if submitted by whites, were rejected when filed by black
families of similar standing whose backgrounds were carefully screened to make sure they were in
fact members of the middle class (Maya MontaГ’ez, 2008). The city split in American was hugely
caused by such deliberate racial separatism. The measures that served to paint homogeneity within
suburban neighborhoods

Native American Medicine Essay
Native American Medicine
If you were in the desert or woods and bitten by a snake, where you go for help? A call to the
local ambulance and a fast ride to the emergency room are not available to you. How would you
know what potions to use and what would heal your wounds? This was the dilemma of the
Native American People hundreds of years ago. How did they handle it? The medical traditions
and customs have remained a mystery to us for hundreds of years. This paper will try to explore
some of these customs and possibly uncover some of the mystery. Our life is an age of previously

St. John s Wort, which is considered to be a natural Prozac was very common and widely
available. It was use by Indians because of the calming effect it had on the central nervous system.
All remedies were carried in a little satchel, called a medicine bag. This bag was filled with roots
tied up in individual bundles with some order as to what items belonged together. The center of
the Native American Heath care system was the medicine man. The medicine men were priests,
magicians and healers who handed down their knowledge and customs from one generation to
the next. Medicine men were considered wealthy; receiving many gifts of money and wild life
if a sick person they treated became well again. They were required to be masters at their craft,
much like the doctors of today. Knowing every song, every word and ritual in perfect tune and
order was essential for success. Everything had to be perfect and correct in order for it to work.
The medicine man ultimately disappeared when during a forty year period ending in 1934, the us
government forbade the tribal role: anyone attempting to serve as a medicine man was to be
imprisoned for no less than ten days or until such time as he could produce evidence, satisfactory to
the court, that he would forever abandon all such practices. (Dharmananda, 2000, P.3) In delivering
modern nursing care while incorporating the beliefs and customs of the Native American, a nurse

The Confessio Of St. Patrick Analysis
In The Confessio of St. Patrick, Patrick writes of his life after his conversion to Christianity and
his life leading from then to his elder years. St. Patrick most known for converting Ireland, writes
of his call to the Green country, his devotion, and his fear. In these writings, he acknowledges his
failings, and his devotion to Christ. The fifth century missionary and bishopof Irelandstarted out as a
pagan. His later conversion led to slip ups during his times of need where he would call upon his
old Gods and pray for their help. After his trials, he mentions again the Christian God and thanks
him. In doing so, he shows his humanity by showing his error. He writes of this fault with the
quote Helias, Helias with all my might (288,182) with his intention to acknowledge it happened. In
his work, he makes a point to not showcase his errors, but how his devotion guided and him, if not
at times blindly.

Manslaughter And Involuntary Manslaughter
dangerous resulting in a death of another human being. Manslaughter is the opposite of murder,
manslaughter can also be described in two different ways, being either voluntary or involuntary.
Voluntary manslaughter is when the act of murder is committed in either the heat of the passion or
in the defense of yourself or others (Benish). Meaning if somebody broke into a house and had a
gun, then the owner of the home could shoot the man, because he or she is defending themselves in
the situation. Involuntary manslaughter is when a killing is unintentional resulting from an
unlawful misdemeanor act or a low level felony(Benish), such as a drunk driver wrecking a car,
killing the passengers in the vehicle. Both these class A felonies result in death of another human
being, therefore being the reason why the sentence is automatically 25 years to life. Rapealso falls
in the category of class A, considering it can lead to murder or manslaughter and is considered a
severe felony. Rape is a type of sexual assault, either in the form of sexual intercourseor other forms
of sexual penetration carried out against a person without the persons consent (Rape). Some
people may argue that rape should fall more into the class B category, mainly because it is not as
severe as murder or manslaughter because it is not resulting in a dead human being. In the United
States there is reported rape every 6.2 minutes , adding up to tens of millions of rape victims
(Solnit). How many of

Yin and Yang
YIN AND YANG
YIN AND YANG
I. THE YIN YANG THEORY
Ancient Chinese people were greatly interested in the relationships and patterns that occurred in
nature. Instead of studying isolated things, they viewed the world as a harmonious and holistic
entity. In their eyes, no single being or form could exist unless it was seen in relation to its
surrounding environment. By simplifying these relationships, they tried to explain complicated
phenomena in the universe.
1. What is the Yin Yang Theory?
Yin yang theory is a kind of logic, which views things in relation to its whole. The theory is based
on two basic components: yin and yang, which are neither materials nor energy. They combine in a
complementary manner and form a method for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They depend on each other for definition and can only be measured by comparing themselves to
each other. For example, heat ceases to exist (yang aspect) if there is no such thing as cold (yin
aspect). Without an understanding of hot and cold, there would only be one temperature. Height
(yang aspect) cannot be measured if there is not a low reference point (yin aspect); otherwise,
everything would be at one level. In addition, the comparisons between yin and yang are relative
to the objects being compared. For example, when soup is first cooked it is hot but after it a
while it becomes cold, but the hot cold distinction is relative to a cold an ice cube and boiling water.
According to the yin yang theory, our physical body is closely related to its physiological
functions. The activity (yang) of our body is nourished by its physical form (yin), and the physical
form is created and maintained by the body s activity. They rely on each other to achieve a
balanced state of health.

3. Yin and Yang change and grow in a cyclic and balanced manner.
Yin and yang achieve a state of balance by mutual control and inhibition. The balance is neither
static nor absolute, but is maintained within certain limits. At certain times, yin expands while yang
diminishes. At other times, the opposite is true. The change of seasons illustrates this concept.
From winter through spring and summer, the weather changes from cold to hot. This is a process
where yang (heat) grows

  • 2. Cross Cultural Conflicts And Cultural Values Essay CROSS CULTURAL CONFLICTS Abstract: As said by Jonathan H. Turner cross cultural conflicts are differences in cultural values and beliefs that place people at odds with one another . Generally cultural conflicts have been used to describe crime and violence but that is a pretty narrow definition. The objective of this article is to elaborate upon the conflicts varying across cultures, not only criminal but also cover various other aspects of it such as identity conflicts, conflicts in ethnic and culture, etc. Globalisation has brought us closer together. In the 21st century, we live for the first time in one global community. But it is a community composed of many strands which must be carefully woven together into a whole. The article shows pluralism as cross cultural conflict and goes deeper into the roots. Introduction: Civilization and culture today are facing various problems: the restructuring of the society, and decreasing importance of cultural essentialism. There is an enormous cultural diversity in the world today and people have been living with it. There are regions enriched with cultural diversity as well as there as continents with large similarities in culture. Apart from conflicts in business and management there are various day to day problems/differences which arise namely: Gender differences in child rearing, behaviour across cultures, etc. Civilizations are depicted as independent social spheres, which as a whole have a major effect on the political ... • 3. The Relationships Among Academic Attitudes, Psychological... Article Title: Reynolds, A. L., Weigand, M. J. (2010). The relationships among academic attitudes, psychological attitudes, and the first semester academic achievement of first year college students. Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, 47(2), 175 195. Introduction The study by Reynolds and Weigand was conducted in 2010, which means that all sources used by researchers should be evaluated from that perspective, counting 5 years from the publication year as more recent and older sources that have no fundamental value as irrelevant. Reynolds and Weigand (2010) have utilized 40 sources in their research, with only 8 of them being recent (6 of 2005 year, 1 2006, and 1 2007), and the rest being irrelevant, dating back to 1985. Therefore, the investigators did not report on the recent and relevant literature, using outdated sources for backing up their findings and justifying their research. Although the investigators language seems neutral and objective, the sections reporting about limitations of the study brings all biases and drawbacks to discussion, revealing sample size, lack of generalizability, and use of first semester GPA for evaluating students academic achievement are cited as the major limitations. Hypothesis The hypothesis of the study is not stated clearly, leaving only research questions to guide the readers in guessing the purpose of the research and possible assumptions. So, Reynolds and Weigand (2010) asked, (a) what is the relationship ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Ferguson Volcanoe Research Paper The volcanoes in the north south trending cascade province evolved through subduction, addition of exotic terranes, and oblique plate movements. The North American plate edge was located farther east during the Mesozoic era. However subduction created microcontinents and microplates which shifted the plate edge westward. The first cascade volcanoes erupted 42 million years ago (Ma) forming the older western cascades. It was orientated northwest but rotated clockwise to become the north south that it is today. Because of the rotation fissured appeared on the east and lots of eruptions occurred on the Columbia River basalt 17 Ma.Subduction and volcanism continued for 25 million years in the older Cascade Range. A major eruption melting the ice and snow could send debris flows, pyroclastic flows, and lahars towards Puget Sound and the Seattle/Tacoma metropolitan area. Volcanic hazard mapping has identified areas in the park that could be affected in the future by debris flows, lahars, pyroclastic flows and surges, lava flows, volcanic projectiles, tephra falls, and lateral blasts. Longmire Village and the Cougar Rock, Ohanapecosh, White River, Ipsut Creek, and Sunshine Point campgrounds are all vulnerable to these hazards. Monitoring of volcanic activity is on going. There is a need for an emergency response plan to address these hazards. The reaction between groundwater and rising gas and steam from the underlying magmatic system creates zones of hydrothermally altered rock. Fumeroles at the summit of the volcano are one result of this reaction. Another result is the largest volcanic ice cave system in the world at the summit of Mount Rainier. Earthquakes are also geologic hazards associated with Mount Rainier. Earthquakes precede a volcanic eruption although not every earthquake means an eruption is imminent. Other than Mt. St. Helens, Mount Rainier is the mos (Graham)t seismically active volcano in the Cascades. The destruction of cryptobiotic soils and general soil erosion by human impacts are important issues. A ... • 6. Rite of Passage Ceremony RITE OF PASSAGE It is three days before my initiation ceremony. The day Mama says I become a woman. She is really happy about it and I m supposed to be, but I m not. I have tried to delay this day for as long as possible, but this year Papa put his foot down. I am already 17 years old and most girls go through the ceremony at 14. All the girls in my age group have to go through this rite in order to make them eligible for marriage. No woman in the village can get married without undergoing the rite of passage. It is part of our tradition and the elders believe it ensures women do not stray from their marital homes. They also believe you are unclean without it. People were already starting to whisper about me as I was the last girl in my age group who not gone through it and my friends tease and look down on me that I am not yet a woman. My younger brother, Dide cannot be initiated into the Warrior class because he has an older sister who is uncircumcised. This is the real reason Papa has refused to listen to me any longer. Dide has come of age and he doesn t want me to delay his initiation. After my initiation ceremony, I would be getting married. Papa has already someone picked out. I ve seen him a couple of times, my friends think I m lucky to be getting married into his family. I don t think anything. Going through the initiation ceremony and getting married would be the end of schooling for me. I know what is expected of me as a female but I don t like it. When I told ... • 8. Gene Expression in Eukaryotes Gene expression in eukaryotes can be broken down into three stages. These stages include Transcription, RNA processing, and Translation. These steps are similar to gene expression in prokaryotes but RNA processing is specific to gene expression in eukaryotes. Transcription Transcription happens in the cell nucleus. This is where DNA can be found. For example you can use DNA as instructions to make certain things such as proteins, but, these instructions are in a different language and you do not understand them, so the workers that will eventually assemble them cannot work with them. This is where mRNA will come into play. The mRNA will provide the workers or cells with new instructions that will be used to build the protiens. In transcription DNA is unzipped and the enzyme RNA polymerase RNA polymerase binds to the promoter region. This starts the unwinding of the DNA strands, and the polymerase starts RNA synthesis which runs along the template strand of the DNA. In eukaryotic cells proteins called transcription factors bind to promoters that include a TATA box, 25 nucleotides upstream from the start of transcription. After, more transcription factors will bind to the DNA, together with RNA polymerase II, forming the transcription initiation complex. The second step of transcription is the process of elongation. This is where the polymerase moves downstream while it unwinds the DNA and elongates the RNA from 5 to 3 . As the RNA synthesis continues downstream the new ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Gender Roles In The Penelopiad Human nature is a large part of our world today. In Margret Atwood s, The Penelopiad, one can see that the roles men take have a great effect on the women. Atwood says that Human nature has not changed in thousands of years and still to this day is correct. The Penelopiad shows how women are belittled and the how many stereotypes are being used to describe how Penelope lived. Humannature consists of men being the rulers and women being the caretakers, but this is problematic because women have the same ability as men; therefore, can contribute to the betterment of society. Currently people still see women as the ones who have to clean, cook and do the majority of housework and the men having to do all the heavy lifting, hard working jobs ... • 10. International Monetary Fund Argentina Project And Its... The International Monetary Fund Argentina Project and its problems and outcomes One project of the International Monetary Fund was a series of loans given to the country of Argentina in the 1990s through 2001. In the 1990s many investors and brokers looked to Argentina for investments as they rated its economy as one of the world s strongest (Blustein, 2003, Aug 3). It was at this time that Argentina first started to follow the International Monetary Fund formula for economic stabilization in development including reducing budget in balance of payment deficits, raising interest rates, reducing inflation, privatizing state assets, and reducing trade barriers and regulation on capital flows in and out of the country (Paddock, 2002, p. 158). These policies helped reduce the hyper inflationary levels that Argentina had reached during the 1980s. This positive outlook may have prevented a needed change in the economic policies when the effects of the Mexican peso crisis in 1995 placed Argentina s economy in a brief recession. It wasn t until 1998 that Argentine policymakers discussed the country s finances with a senior official of the International Monetary Fund who sounded the alarm that the country might be headed for an Asian style melt down. However despite the warning significant economic changes were not made, in part due to the confidence that money could be easily acquired from the International Monetary Fund (Blustein, 2003, Aug 3). • 11. Intersectional Feminism Within Western culture, mass media contributes to the social construction of gender roles and has a direct effect on the social structure of society. The media uses advertising, television, and film to help facilitate these changes. This idea will be explored using theories rooting from intersectional feminism when comparing genderstereotypes, discrimination against transgender people, racial stereotypes, rape culture and reasons for these portrayals in popular culture. Basis of Feminist Theory The idea of feminism is commonly misconstrued in society as having a pro female only agenda. Butler, (2011) argues that feminism is simply the social, political, and economic equality of the sexes. Based off evidence provided in Bardsley s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pop culture is defined as a product of a culture that has a mass audience (Zeisler 2008:1). Pop culture is considered dependent on advertising, depicting women and people of colour in a problematic way and discriminating manner (Ziesler, 2008:2). Popular culture has become our common knowledge, and to understand it is a key part in understanding society as a whole. According to Beamish (2016), popular culture is a form of symbolic communication between humans. Symbols can be anything that can be recognized by a culture and often presented in the forms of language, values, norms, and material culture. The use of language is a powerful tool that allows for the media to relay particular messages to the rest of society. The imposition of certain concepts as a result can be argued as having a direct affect on the daily lives of those who are exposed. Whereas material culture allows the population to see these messages visually through advertisements, film, and television. Some basic forms of pop culture include television, film, music, news, and advertising. Popular culture is rooted in mass culture, and deemed for those who could not afford the means to participate in high culture activities. • 12. The Development Of Attachment Bonds The development of attachment bonds to other biological figures plays an important role in emotional development. Throughout life, an individual will form several relationships, some of which will be sincere and intimate while others will be superficial. However, collectively these relationships provide the foundation of our communities, families, and friendships and become essential to our survival as a species. A secure attachment bond can be classified as the interactive emotional relationship between a caregiver and infantinvolving the emotional responses of the caregiver to the infant s cues (Bowlby, 1969). These emotional responses can be expressed in a variety of forms including gestures, sounds, or even movements. Thus, this interactive emotional relationship between the caregiver and infant brings the two closer together creating an environment that allows the infant to feel safe and secure, further developing their ability to communicate and interact with others (Bowlby, 1969). So, in talking about attachment bonds, how are attachments developed in the first place? Starting from birth, infants are essentially unattached emotionally to any significant figure and show no social discriminatory responses to anyone specific. As the baby grows and develops, they will enter the second phase in which they can distinguish between familiar and unfamiliar faces, voices, and smells. At this point, they are not completely attached to any one individual, despite their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Since the introduction of the first proton pump inhibitor (PPI) in the late 1980s, the use of PPIs has risen dramatically, with sharp increases noted up to 456% in the 1990s.4 As one of the world s most frequently prescribed medications5, expenditures are estimated to surpass seven billion dollars annually,6 falling only second to HMG CoA reductase inhibitors. It introduces a connection between success in the future of young children by their ability to delay gratification. This study has been operating for more than forty years and still more studies are being added to test different variables such as studying an individual s emotional impulses and studying the effects of changing the reliability of a child s environment during the marshmallow experiment. When these variables are taken into account the result drastically changed. There have also been follow up studies on the first participants with findings that explain the results of having low and high delayed gratification. The purpose of the Marshmallow Experiment is to test how long a young child, typically in the range of 3 5 years old for the experiment, could wait before giving into temptation. First, the children were given one given a marshmallow by a researcher of the study, they were instructed to wait to eat the marshmallow until the researcher came back. If they waited for a total of 15 minutes the researcher would return with a second marshmallow. 2 out of 3 of the kids gave into temptation. While, 1 out of 3 kids had enough willpower to distract themselves so that they could receive the second treat. • 21. The Geographic Information System ( Gis ) Essay Today s society relies heavily on the use of computers and computerised information, so much so that we rarely notice when an activity or action involves the use of technology. Over the past 30 years, technology has continued to develop into extremely complex systems capable of processing large amounts of data. It is now possible to represent not only numbers and letters, but also images, sounds and maps (Bernhardsen, 2002, p. 1). A Geographic Information System(GIS) is a computer system or application designed to perform a variety of operations based on geographic information. GIS is a tool used by many organisations, businesses, schools, governments and individuals searching for innovative ways to solve problems (Evans, 2014). Geographic Information Systems allow users to map, model, analyse and query data all within a single database according to their location (Evans, 2014). Information about the world is stored as a collection of layers; these layers can be linked together by a common locational component such as zip codes, latitude and longitude or road name. These geographic references allow individuals to locate features for analysis of trends and patterns (Evans, 2014). Dozens of layers can be added and organised to display a wide array of information on many subjects. Computer based GIS systems have knowingly been used since the late 1960 s (Coppock Rhind, 1997). • 22. Language And Speech Processing Throughout Modern Humans Essay The ability of speech and language processing has always been a defining factor in what makes humans unique, especially from their closest living relative primates. This paper will analyze the differences in modern human brain structure and the common chimpanzee brain structure (pan troglodytes) in regards to the language and speech function. Language and speech processing in modern humans will focus on two parts of the cerebral cortex: Broca s area and Wernicke s area, which is responsible for generating speech and language and receiving speech and language respectively. Broca s area will be analyzed by the two parts it is made up of: Brodmann area 44, associated mainly with phonological tasks and Brodmann area 45, associated mainly with semantic processing. Wernicke s area receives and interprets speech and language and is shown to be connected to Broca s area by a neuronal tract known as the arcuate fasciculus. The structure of the common chimpanzee brainis shown to have homologous structures to Broca s and Wernicke s area in modern humans, but is significantly smaller, and is unable to perform the same developed functions as modern humans in regards to language and speech, but is much more limited and simplified. Speech and language are key components that distinguish modern humans from their close relatives primates. Mama Day the main character in Gloria Naylors novel is a no nonsense woman who uses her magic to help the other residents of their island. • 35. Taking a Look at Hollow Slip Casting Introduction Slip casting is a technique used to mass produce ceramic shapes that are not easily made on a wheel. To perform slip casting, a plaster mold is filled with a liquid clay casting slip. The water inside the casting slip is drawn to the plaster mold until a layer of solid clay is left deposited onto the mold walls. Once the right thickness is achieved, the excess casting slip is poured off and a hollow cast remains. Slip casting has been a large impression on society through its commercial applications. Because of its low cost and ease of mass production, many everyday items have been casted using slip such as: figurines, doll faces, dishes, flowerpots, lamp bases, toilets[1]. The recycling ability of slip is another asset, since the loss ratio is an inevitable part to the slip casting procedure. Slip casting has many advantages. The slip casting process allows for the creation of high detailed duplicates. Slip casting opens the door to experiment with recipes that lack plasticity such as bone china, talc, or spodumene bodies[1]. The slip casting process is also a favored technique because it can produce very consistent results, results like equal density during formation. Traditional slips are mixtures of clays, non plastic minerals, deflocculates, water, and occasionally flocculants. A deflocculant is an electrolyte enables fluidity with a minimal amount of water. Many regular people wanted a share of the wealth and the right to have and use their voice. This is emphasized in the playwhen Eva Smith asks Mr Birling for more money. They were all rather restless, and suddenly decided to ask for more money ... I refused, of course , Birling explained why Eva Smith was fired. These two figures not only help settle a new land, they also had firsthand knowledge of each other. They are not two people that lived years apart from each other but rather they lived concurrently. And Morton became lord of misrule, and maintained (as it were) a school of Atheism (127). Everything that the Puritans stood for, Morton was boldly going against. But the following events that Morton orchestrated are what really pushed the Puritans over the edge. Firstly, Morton erected a Maypole for a May Day celebration. This Maypole was in the words of Morton, a lamentable spectacle to the precise Separatists that lived at New Plymouth. They termed it an idol; yea, they called it the Calf of Horeb and stood at defiance with the place (141). However, Morton made no apologies and his group gathered around the pole to drink and sing songs that included lyrics such as, Drink and be merry, merry, merry boys; /...To cure the heart oppressed with grief, / And of good liquors is the chief. /Then drink (141). • 40. Impact Of John Stuart Mill On Income Inequality ECON1401 Written Assignment 1 John Stuart Mill and Income Inequality Many great economic thinkers throughout history has offered various differing yet interrelated views and ideas that may prove useful to the analysis of current issues in modern economics. A persistent issue in the modern economy is income inequality whereby the distribution of income among the population is unequal. This means that the gap between the rich and the poor increases over time if the issue is not appropriately addressed. In exploring the issue of income inequality in Australia, this essay aims to analyse the issue from the perspective of a selected economic thinker namely John Stuart Mill by: (1) providing a summary of Mill s key ideas and theories, including the different forces that may have shaped his thinking; (2) applying Mill s conceptual framework to the income inequality problem; and (3) offer solutions he might have suggested to address this problem, including policies that may be adopted and institutions that may be constructed in the Australian context. In order to consider the problem of income inequality from Mill s perspective, it is of imperative importance to first grasp an understanding of what factors contributed to the development of his key ideas. Known as one of the most influential figures in classical economics, Mill is more commonly described as a philosopher and socialist than an economist due to his obstinate strive for progressive social reform throughout his ... • 41. President Obama s Child Farm Labor Bill President Obama wanted to pass a bill that would prevent young farm workers from participating in farm related activities and chores. Billed as an anti child labor act, the bill was quickly censured. As Leven puts it, the proposal drew heavy criticism from rural state lawmakers and agricultural leaders, who cast the rule as government overreach that would erode the traditional American family. The traditional American family in this case is a rural one, which is an under represented segment of the population in federal politics. In addition to the way the bill harms traditional rural life, it would also have significantly harmed the American economy at a time when the economy needs a boost. Farm families rely on a continuity of labor, so that the young people on the family can learn the trade as early as possible to support their future careers. Moreover, the bill represents an unnecessary encroachment of both the government and big labor on farming practices. Part of the bill s provision was to create a government intervention to oversee occupational safety, when there are already independent organizations committed to meeting the same objectives. President Obama s proposed child farm labor bill was untenable because it would damage traditional rural family life; harm a significant part of the American economy; and enable government and big labor to intrude upon the lives of Americans. • 45. The Street Gang In LETB In LETB, Harry is scapegoated by the roving street gang. Harry commits the horrendous act of molesting a young boy, however that is not grounds for dismissing his death as justice according to Girard s theory. This is further proved because Selby has the street gang murder him. Throughout the section Strike , they show constant disdain for Harry and use him for beer and food. The importance of the street gangs role as the scapegoaters , is that they show homosexual tendencies throughout the novel. However here, they call Harry a freak and abuse him (176). After they crucify him, they go into the bathroom of the Greeks, seemingly happier than they had been since they beat a sailor up in Another Day, Another Dollar . In both the incident with the sailor and with Harry, questions of masculinity and impotence were the forefront causes for the street gang s violence. This suggests that Selby shows their inability to come to terms with their own sexuality; and how it is much easier to strike out than accept their feelings, as seen in above in the chapter on Hypermasculinity . The rape of the prostitute Tralala is also suggestive of this, as it seems to include most of the males in Sunset Park. They come together to violently rape her, seemingly to take out their own feelings of inferiority and impotence on her. Like with Girard s sexually aggressive goat , Tralala is chosen because she is seen as an abject woman. In the conservative conforming world of 1950s America , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhetorical Analysis Of Thomas King Rhetorical Analysis of Thomas King `Recently, scholars have analyzed King s (2003) chapter You ll Never Believe What Happened is Always a Good Way to Start, with the intent to discover King s rhetorical techniques and overall purpose. At the time of his speech, the world was predominantly scientific, capitalistic, Judeo Christian (p.12). Firstly, Cassandra Plettell (2017) found that King utilizes ethos to demonstrate how stories may alter an individual s perception (p.2). Similarly, Emma Murphy (2017) found that King uses ethos and pathos that portrays the idea that stories have the ability to greatly impact individuals lives (p.2). Then, Ajodeji Edna Adetimechin (2017) found that King uses ethos, pathos, and logos to convince his audience of the influential power that stories have in shaping perspectives (p.2). In general, they have found that King s purpose is regarding the influential powers of stories with the use of ethos, pathos and/or logos. In addition to Plettell, Murphy and Adetimechin s finding, I would like to go a step further and argue that King s overall purpose is to persuade the audience that the Genesis creation story has formulated a culture that lacks forgiveness, compassion, and unity (King, 2003, pp.24 27). Inclusively, I will argue how King utilizes his personal experiences with stories, emotional appeals, and writing arrangement in order to gradually persuade his highly intellectual audience. Built by ancient civilizations, both structures carry deep cultural significance. Both these spaces share profound ancient traditions and longevity while embracing two very different religious trains of thought. Consequently, each structure has comparable history but rather diverse use. The Pyramid of the Sun located in Teotihuacan is a four tier, stepped pyramid. The cave in many historic accounts is the beginning of life and the dwelling place of gods and guardians. Thus the Pyramid and the cave symbolize the existence and duration of life. However, because the Pyramid is constructed upon a series of caverns and a natural springs it is crucial to the religious system. Caves are considered the womb of the earth and springs are the openings to the underworld and to the earth gods (Heyden 134,141). The Pyramid is then a grand monument to the origin of life and a bridge to the spirit realm. Furthermore, the Pyramids physical orientation is also significant. The structure has four corners and the cave beneath has four chambers which are believed to be homage to the earth fertility gods and associated with the cardinal direction (Heyden 141). Guys do not like expressing their feelings about themselves to other people and man do not have a perspective in beauty when it comes to ourselves or other men, that is because men are not judgemental towards other men. On the other hand, females are always taking things too personal and serious, and they are always comparing each other with their looks to other friends and women are always asking for opinions in how they look to other friends because of the insecurities they bring since little from playing with toys. When it comes to beauty we guys are somewhat really laid back about it and it is because men are way to confident for someone else or something else to bring their self esteem down, but on the other hand women are always comparing themselves with more beautiful people or the barbies toys that the author Dave Barry talks about in this The Ugly Truth about Beauty essay.... • 59. Manslaughter And Involuntary Manslaughter dangerous resulting in a death of another human being. Manslaughter is the opposite of murder, manslaughter can also be described in two different ways, being either voluntary or involuntary. Voluntary manslaughter is when the act of murder is committed in either the heat of the passion or in the defense of yourself or others (Benish). Meaning if somebody broke into a house and had a gun, then the owner of the home could shoot the man, because he or she is defending themselves in the situation. Involuntary manslaughter is when a killing is unintentional resulting from an unlawful misdemeanor act or a low level felony(Benish), such as a drunk driver wrecking a car, killing the passengers in the vehicle. Both these class A felonies result in death of another human being, therefore being the reason why the sentence is automatically 25 years to life. • 60. Yin and Yang YIN AND YANG YIN AND YANG I. THE YIN YANG THEORY Ancient Chinese people were greatly interested in the relationships and patterns that occurred in nature. Instead of studying isolated things, they viewed the world as a harmonious and holistic entity. In their eyes, no single being or form could exist unless it was seen in relation to its surrounding environment. By simplifying these relationships, they tried to explain complicated phenomena in the universe. 1. What is the Yin Yang Theory? Yin yang theory is a kind of logic, which views things in relation to its whole. The theory is based on two basic components: yin and yang, which are neither materials nor energy. They combine in a complementary manner and form a method for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They depend on each other for definition and can only be measured by comparing themselves to each other. For example, heat ceases to exist (yang aspect) if there is no such thing as cold (yin aspect). Without an understanding of hot and cold, there would only be one temperature. Height (yang aspect) cannot be measured if there is not a low reference point (yin aspect); otherwise, everything would be at one level. In addition, the comparisons between yin and yang are relative to the objects being compared. For example, when soup is first cooked it is hot but after it a while it becomes cold, but the hot cold distinction is relative to a cold an ice cube and boiling water. According to the yin yang theory, our physical body is closely related to its physiological functions. The activity (yang) of our body is nourished by its physical form (yin), and the physical form is created and maintained by the body s activity. They rely on each other to achieve a balanced state of health. [pic] [pic] 3. Yin and Yang change and grow in a cyclic and balanced manner. Yin and yang achieve a state of balance by mutual control and inhibition. The balance is neither static nor absolute, but is maintained within certain limits. At certain times, yin expands while yang diminishes. At other times, the opposite is true. The change of seasons illustrates this concept. From winter through spring and summer, the weather changes from cold to hot. This is a process where yang (heat) grows
