This document discusses how the Blue Waters supercomputer enabled advances in atmospheric science, climate, and weather modeling through high-resolution simulations and large datasets. It provides examples of research projects in these fields that were able to utilize Blue Waters' massive processing power and storage capabilities to run global models at finer scales and save more frequent output over longer time periods than previously possible. This high-performance computing resource has significantly furthered scientific understanding of phenomena like tropical cyclones, cloud microphysics, and long-term climate changes.
