The Bloom Energy Box is a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system that generates electricity on-site with no emissions. It was invented by Indian scientist K.R. Sridhar to produce oxygen on Mars, but was later adapted to provide electricity. The Bloom Box stacks individual SOFCs together to produce enough electricity to power the average home. It draws in oxygen on one side and fuel like natural gas on the other to create a chemical reaction producing electricity with no combustion. Current customers of the Bloom Box include Google, Walmart, FedEx and Staples, providing benefits like lower costs, sustainability and simple installation compared to traditional power generation.
