Blood and nerve supply

2. ARTRIAL SUPPLY:
 Face is richly vascular.
 Mainly blood supply from left and right common
carotid arteries.
 Each common carotid artery further divided into
external and internal carotid arteries which further
divided.
 Facial artery, transverse facial artery and maxillary
artery are the divisions of external carotid artery.
 Ophthalmic branch of internal carotid artery.

5.  Deoxygenated blood drains from facial region is the
branch of internal jugular vein.

6.  Facial nerve supply are from cranium nerve which are
sensory, motor and mixed nerves.
 Olfactory I: nerves goes to nose (smell).
 Optic II: goes to eyes (VISSION).
 Oculomotor III: goes to eyes (moves eye, focus).
 Trochlear IV: goes to eyes (rotate eyes).
 Trigeminal V: divided into branches which are
ophthalmic v1, maxillary v2 and mandibular v3, these
branch goes to different region of face (touch
sensation).

7.  Abducens: nerve also goes to eyes (latterly
rotates eye)
 Facial nerves VII: branch of facial nerves are
temporal, zygomatic, buccal, mandibular and
cervical goes to different region of face (facial
expressions, taste).
 Glossopharyngeal XI: goes to tongue( taste
and swallowing).
 Hypoglossal XII: goes to tongue (tongue
movement).
