The document discusses the progression from the author's preliminary editing task to their full film opening project. In the preliminary task, they learned camera techniques like 180 degree shots, shot reverse shots, and match on action shots. For the film opening, they used 180 degree and match on action shots but had fewer types of shots than in the preliminary. They felt rushed during filming which limited the variety of shots they could include. Going forward, they would spend more time planning shots and angles to make the film opening more diverse and interesting.

1. Looking back at your
preliminary task (the
continuity editing task), what
do you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to full
product?
2. Analysing preliminary
TaskIn our preliminary task we used the camera techniques and they were; 180 degree rule, shot reverse shot and
match on action.
4. Shot reverse shot
The shot reverse shot is used when two people are having a conversation and the
shot displays both points of views while conversing. It is a technique where one
character is shown looking at another character and then the other character is
shown looking back and the first character.
6. 180 degree
The 180 degree rule is when two characters in a scene should maintain the same
position to one another and an example would be, when the camera passes over
the axis connecting the two characters and that is called crossing the line and
that then is what the sot becomes a reverse angle.
8. Match on action
Match on action is a shot when you are matching on action meaning when the
editor cuts a view from one shot to another view that matches the first shots
action. For example, someone walking up to the door and then reaching for a
door knob.
9. Analysing preliminary task- conclusion
In our preliminary task, we used more than one shot and this is a good thing as
we learned different ways of using a camera and these techniques will come in
handy when it comes to filming our film opening. These techniques allow us to
create different effects just by the different use and angles of a camera. This
has allowed us to grasp an idea of what we are going to do in our film opening
and by having variety of different effects, this will attract members of the
audience and keep them interested as they wouldn’t just be looking at scene
with ne type of shot as this would be very boring.
12. 180 degree shot
In out film opening we did use the 180 degree shot and this is when the victim,
Jamila tripped over and fell on the flor and then the killer, Jasmine, came over
and was standing over her. This started off from filming from behind of Jamila to
behind Jasmine.
14. Match on action
In our film opening, we used the shot match on action shot and we used this
as we needed to add a different shot as we were not filming a variety of
different shots and angles. In the match on action shot we filmed in our film
opening we have the victim, Jamila, upstairs in her room who just finished
packing her bag and then you see her running down the stairs looking quite
flustered.
15. Analysing film opening- conclusion
In our film opening we did not use as many different effects and shot as we did in our
preliminary task as we have more of a variety of shots in our preliminary task as we
had at least three different shots where as in our film opening we have only two. This
is because we did believe that we didn’t need some of the shots that we had initially
used in our preliminary task as it wasn’t needed as our storyline an script didn’t
require it.
However although we didn’t have a variety of different shots, we did use a lot of
different angles such as high angle, low angle, medium long shots.
Over all our film opening was good but it could have been better if; our time
management was very bad therefor we rushed it a lot which meant that we did not
concentrate and focus much on our filming as we had the script and storyline ready,
we just had to take our time and focus on the different shots and angles and planning
it beforehand rather than winging it and trying to rush. Also, if we had used more
camera shots and angles in order to make our film opening more diverse and
interesting just by having those small effects, Other than that, we did quite well in
our film opening however if we were to do this again, we would take our time plan
every detail out first.
