1. 7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the
progress from it to the full product?
Since the preliminary task I feel like me and my group have learned a lot For
example our story line could have been stronger and could have more thought to
it like the time we took on our thriller film. It Gave us a rough idea on what shots
worked well to present an feeling across to the audience for example like a low
angle can make the audience know that a character has power. Or a close up
can show the audience how the character is feeling. Also we learned that don’t
matter how well you think a shot went it’s always better to play it back. This is to
make sure that it works and there are no mistakes so when you get to editing it is
easier to edit. By playing back on the camera you know if you got all the shots
you needed instead of waiting till you started editing to find out if were missing
something.
By doing the preliminary task it meant that we learnt new techniques like: match
on action, 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot. These are strong techniques
that make a film strong and successful. Are preliminary task meant we got to play
around with these shots and get used to using them so that when it came to
doing our film we felt comfortable with them also we learned how to zoom in and
out whilst recording this became useful in our thriller opening.
2. When we got to watch our preliminary task back I and my group went over how
we could have pushed ourselves on making the shots better and stronger. By
doing this it meant that when we was making our thriller opening are skills of
using these shots had made an massive improvement, which made our shots a
lot stronger, making our film a higher quality. In our final film we used shot
reverse shot when the two friends are talking. We also used match on action of
Chloe going through the side gate to break into the house this helped and
improved our thriller opening because it broke up the shots and made it different
from being the usual shots that people use. In our thriller opening we used the
180 degree rule we did this because in the film when Chloe it walking up the
house if we broke this rule it would have looked like Chloe was walking the other
way.
Once you watch our preliminary task than watch our final thriller opening you can
see the differences between them. As in our film ‘Skylark Grove’ our idea was lot
stronger and you can see a lot of thought went into it unlike our preliminary task
3. which wasn't a strong idea. This because there wasn’t really a story to the
preliminary task it was just a conversation, however with our thriller opening we
could explore a lot more with using these techniques.
