1. Looking back at your preliminary task (the continuity
editing task), what do you feel you have learnt in
the progression from it to full product?

2. Shot Reverse Shot
• For my preliminary task it was compulsory to use three certain different types of shots. One
of the shots that had to be included was the shot reverse shot. This is type of shot is used for
when two people are having a conversation, it shows both peoples perspective e.g. their
facial expressions, body language throughout etc.
*Example of Shot reverse shot used in preliminary task
• However I didn’t use the shot reverse shot in my film opening as there were no
conversations in my opening, which is what the shot reverse shot is best suited for.
3. 180 Degree Rule
• Another thing that I had to include in my
preliminary task was the 180 degree rule.
This is when you keep the camera on one
side of an imaginary line and stay on that
side otherwise you end up confusing the
audience with the setting . The 180
degree rule is best used for conversations
as it shows both people in the frame.
*Example of 180 degree rule from my preliminary task
• In my film opening I used the 180 degree
so that I wouldn’t confuse the audience
two different sides of the setting. From
the preliminary task to the film opening I
realised that using a tripod is much easier
and makes the scene less shaky.

4. Match on Match Action
• The last shot that I included when filming my preliminary task is the match on match action
shot. This is when the same scene is shot in different angles to flow smoothly throughout. An
example of when to use the match on match action is when a person is walking down the
stairs.

5. • When using the match on match action in my film opening I learnt that it looks more
professional if you keep the camera in a similar position. For example filming someone’s
hands opening a fridge door and then cutting to their feet doesn’t make sense, because it
doesn’t link in well with eachother.

6. Reflection
• From my preliminary task to my film opening I think I have progressed quite well,
as I have picked up along the way techniques to improve my camerawork,
resulting in a better outcome. For example for my preliminary task I didn’t use a
tripod so my actual camerawork was shaky. But for my film opening I did giving it a
more professional look. I have now also included a wider range of cinematography
to make it more interesting for the audience to watch, instead of using the same
shots over and over again.
