Abstract Students in distance education at the KATHO (University college in Flanders, Belgium, www.katho.be) only need to come to the campus for assessment. Since September 2008, the center of excellence in e-learning, MAD (Mad About Distance) of KATHO organized a small project with 5 students located in five different countries all over the world. The people involved in the project explored new methodologies and new technical tools to enable teachers to assess those students online. The ENHANCE project aimed to enhance the application of JISC outputs at UWIC. It sought to improve staff skills for technology enhanced learning and encourage use of new technologies. UWIC's Cardiff School of Management requires undergraduate students to complete work placements and maintain a reflective log of their experiences. Initially, an e-portfolio tool called Expo was used, but it had limitations. The ePPSME model was designed as a solution. It uses PebblePad webfolios to provide context-sensitive learning content, blogs, and an all-in-one learning platform to better support students during work placements. Feedback found that the ePPSME model increases engagement and helps students develop reflection skills.

Abstract Students in distance education at the KATHO (University college in Flanders, Belgium, www.katho.be) only need to come to the campus for assessment. Since September 2008, the center of excellence in e-learning, MAD (Mad About Distance) of KATHO organized a small project with 5 students located in five different countries all over the world. One student nearby the desert in Dubai inspired us to call this research “the Camel project”. Factsheet Blended Learning
Blended learning combines both face-to-face and online learning. When designing a blended learning course, it is best to start small by moving some activities online and changing part of the lecture. For every new online activity added, an existing activity should be removed to avoid overburdening students. Activities should build upon each other so that students can apply their new knowledge. Existing open educational resources should be utilized before creating new materials. Lectures can be used for interaction rather than presentations to take advantage of blended learning. Students must be given a clear outline of all course activities and expectations.
Widening the reflection using OpenSyllabus and Core Sakai 2.6

- 4. Rotation Model The Rotation model is one in which students rotate from online instruction to face-to-face instruction. This could be via a flipped classroom approach, in which students view lecture videos at home and work on homework- type problems in class, to a station rotation model, in which students rotate through stations, at least one of which is online.
- 5. Flex Model The Flex model is one in which students work through complete online curricula in an brick-and- mortar classroom with teachers there in person to help support that work.
- 6. A La Carte Model In the A La Carte model, students are able to pick and chose between entirely face-to-face courses or online courses in any combination.
- 7. Enriched Virtual Model The least used model is the Enriched Virtual model, in which students come to just a few face- to-face sessions (maybe at the beginning of the course and at the end) and complete the rest of their work online.
