Graduation RequirementsLegislative Disclaimer:  Once a legislative session has occurred and laws are passed, there are many governmental entities that will review the laws and make rulings that may clarify and give additional guidance which may cause local changes.
         2004-2005Current 12thgradersAll students entering 9th grade will graduate on the Recommended High School Program (RHSP):4 years of English and History (including                               0.5 credit for economics)The Minimum High School Program (MHSP)is available with administrative approval and parent permission.
          2007-2008Current 9th – 11th gradersAll students entering 9th grade in 2007-2008    will graduate on the RHSP with the    following requirements:		4 years of Math, Science, English and            History (including 0.5 credit for economics)
          2009-2010Current 9th – 12th gradersStudents on the (RHSP)are no longer     required to have: ½ credit for health
 1 credit for technology applicationsAnd will be required to have: only 1 credit of PE instead of 1 ½ credits           2010-2011Current 8th – 11th graders All students are no longer required to have: ½ credit for health
 1 credit for technology applicationsAnd will be required to have: only 1 credit of PE instead of 1 ½ credits2010-2011Current 8th – 11th graders Students entering grade 9 and on the (MHSP) are required to have: 1 credit of fine arts    The (MHSP)is only available with administrative approval and parent permission and 1 0f 3 other criteria:  16 yrs of age, completed 2 credits in each subject of the foundation curriculum, have failed to be promoted to 10th grade one or more times.
Local Requirements2010-2011There are a variety of allowable substitutions    for the PE credit and other substitutions    allowed using the Career and Technology Education (CTE) classes. Current8th – 11th gradersTAKS Graduation Requirements until the current 8thgraders graduate:4 Exit Level test given in 11th grade in ELA, Social Studies, Math, and Science.
         2011-2012Current 7th graders and 1st-6thgradersIn 2007, Senate Bill 1031 was enacted     which called for “End of Course” (EOC)     assessments starting with the freshman class   (current  7th graders) of the 2011-2012 school year. Students in 3rd – 8th grade (current 1st-6th graders)    will be taking the new STAAR tests.
Purpose of the EOC assessmentsThe purpose of the EOC assessments is   to measure academic performance in core high school courses and to become part    of the graduation requirement.  The assessments will also be used to determine readiness for advanced coursework and measure college readiness.
 End of Course (EOC) AssessmentsAssessment instruments for core high school courses include:Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II
English I, English II, English III
Biology, Chemistry, Physics
World Geography, World History, United States HistoryCurrently BISD is administering EOC assessments and field testing EOC assessments.  In some cases,     the grades are being calculated in class averages.
Graduation Requirements What is known as of today, and     starting with the freshman class of 2011-2012  :Students will have to take all 12 EOC    assessments and perform at a standard not    yet finalized by Texas Education AgencyThe EOC assessments will count 15% of     the final grade for the class
Advanced and College ReadinessQuestions will be developed on the Algebra I & English II EOC to identify students who are likely to succeed in advanced high school coursesTEKS revisions include college-readiness standards to be be assessed on EOC.To the extent possible, Questions on the Algebra II & English III will be assessed to help determine the appropriate placement in an entry level college course
