17. Textbooks
• In CCISD, we utilize multiple resources to bring
relevancy and rigor to the curriculum.
• CCISD is a 1:1 school district (one computer per
student) in grades 4-12.
• In intermediate and high school, students will
primarily access their textbooks through their
district-issued Tablets/Laptops.
• Some courses are still using the traditional
textbook because the publisher has not moved to
digital resources. Class sets of textbooks are also
available.
18. PSAT Prep
• Freshmen may NOT take any of our regular prep courses
(PSAT/SAT/ACT). However freshmen may take the real
PSAT by registering in the counseling center.
• Those who do not will take a practice PSAT (released
test) when the real one is given on October 15.
• 10th – PSAT Test
• Students register for the SAT and ACT online
• National Merit Test Prep – We have elite, by invitation-
only courses for freshman (Future Scholars) and
sophomores (National Merit Prep Course).
20. Advanced Placement®: The Basics
• AP® courses are college-level courses offered in high school
• Courses reflect what is taught in top introductory college courses
• Students take AP Exams at the end of the course to measure their
mastery of college-level work
• A score of 3 or higher on an AP Exam can typically earn students college
credit and/or placement into advanced courses in college
21. AP®: Skills & Advantages that Last a Lifetime
• Taking an AP course helps students build critical
thinking skills, confidence, and the essential time
management and study skills needed for college
success.
• Nationally, research shows that students who score a 3
or higher on an AP Exam typically earn higher grade
point averages in college and have higher graduation
rates than their non-AP peers.*
•*2009, The College Board, “The Relationship Between AP Exam Performance and College Outcomes"
22. World Geography
• Introduces you to a world of physical, political,
and cultural geography.
• A regular level, year long class.
• Learn about and discuss all things related to
world geography: plate tectonics, land forms,
shifting political borders, cultures, and world
events.
23. AP Human Geography
• Sociology (Why people do what they do)
• Anthropology (How people interacted with
the land and each other over time)
• World Geography. We don’t look at
geography the way other freshman in high
school do.
• This is also a Level 1 course and can
potentially earn you 3 hours of college credit.
